This was our first good stop in San Antonio. My SO found this on the San Antonio Foodie Facebook page and the pictures looked so good we had to come in. The coolest people in the world work here. I got food poisoning from this place. Crazy considering what I got. I ordered the loaded fried with asada and it all came out of both ends immediately after consuming. This was our last stop and we had a tough time finding it. I am glad we found it. They were done serving breakfast but when we asked if they would make us breakfast burritos they were cool with it and I really appreciated that. We got our burritos and my mouth dropped!!! It was so big! Both my hubby and I got the burrito with the avocado, eggs and bacon. They were good and the menu is pretty simple which makes it even better to pick from. The coffee was the one thing I didn't care for but to be fair breakfast was over so the coffee was not fresh. The owner came over to say hello and we thanked him for our breakfast. I have been wanting to try this place for over a year. We finally stopped by for lunch. I remember this used to be the location of a Chicago hot dog place that was really good. Stepping up to the cashier to order was already annoying as we didn't receive any greeting. I said hello to her, but she still just stared. So I started to order the Cali Twist with asada meat. The husband ordered the California burrito with pork. Drinks and any sides are not included. The soda machine was out of ice. Or so we thought. Someone from the back came out and pushed the handle harder in and out a few times till ice started coming out. Problem solved, I guess. Our food came out and honestly the flavor did not do it for me. Everything tasted normal with no appeal. Their house sauce kinda threw it off as well. It had a dijon mustard flavor in it. Either way, not impressed. The place looks dirty and every time the cashier wasn't taking orders, she was just on her phone in the corner still in view of the customers. Finally came by here for breakfast (husband) and lunch for me. It was quiet but walking up you could smell that was cooking. There is a bar and the fountain drink station was limited but there seems to be plenty of seating in or outdoors. Ordered the California Asada burrito and the bacon guacamole burrito. It took us back to when we lived in Tucson, AZ and of course when we visited Cali. The portions are big and the green salsa is amazing but get your own and the house salsa is very hot. This place is known for its "Cali Style" burritos. And with me being a SoCal native here in SA I had to try it it out. Now i have been looking for a place to have Mexican food, tacos or burritos like home "SoCal" for a while. Oh first thing I noticed is the 51% sign on the door meaning they get at least 51% of its income from the sell of alcohol. This was curious because it's a burrito place. But I saw why. They have a bar in there. I'm sure this would be a good place to have a burrito and a cocktail of some kind. Got my food Togo but next time for sure. Ok I got the surf and turf burrito (which is my favorite at home). There was no rice available (we do like rice in our burritos) but ok. I took out the pico and added guacamole. Now, the steak and shrimp was cooked very well and had great flavor. I liked how it tasted. The only thing I wasn't a fan of is the house sauce. There was a slight taste that wasn't sitting all the way with me and I think that's what it was. But everything else rated fine. I like my burrito place to let the flavor of the foods speak of itself. I think there is no need for the sauce. I will be back to get another burrito a different type and without the sauce. I'm known for being a big eater and I finished mine but no room for anything else. My wife split it with our 10yo and neither finished. My high school son finished his and my 15yo ate 4/5ths of his. We ended up getting the cali original or the cali twist. We attempted to order the chili dog burrito but supply chain said "no". We also tried to order the fish and chips and the supply chain said "sowwy". Later I was perusing the sauces available and the chef (owner?) asked me if I wanted anything hotter... I was game so he went to the back and brought back 2 creamy sauces with habanero and ghost peppers. He said his favorite is the one with just the ghost peppers... but again... supply chain ^.^' I'm not bitter... I completely understand ... but it is frustrating. I'm sure for them as well. The chef/owner was super nice and excited about his product & condiments. I was surprised that there was a bar there! They serve margaritas and beer on tap. They have a happy hour from 3-6 pm. I'm most excited about breakfast. I plan on coming back to try it ... as well as the fish and chips and the chili dog. They close at 9pm so it feels a little early to support the bar. I'm more of a breakfast person so I hope that isn't traded for later hours on the bar. Torchy's tacos has a late bar but they don't open for breakfast until 10am... which I think is super late for breakfast. C'mon... fast food shuts down breakfast just 30 min after that. I got there right on time, after a crowd and before another rush. The staff was very friendly. I ordered the surf and turf. It was a nice blend of beef and shrimp. Nice decent size shrimp as well not those small ones either. However I do feel like I got more fries in my burrito than anything but it was still very good. I knew that the California style burritos would be huge based on other reviews but they really are gigantic. I ate half of my Bacon Guacamole breakfast burrito before deciding to save the rest for later. The chips were delicious and I really liked the salsa verde. I will probably ask to substitute that for the house sauce in the future. I didn't really like the house sauce but the other elements of my burrito made up for it. The place was clean and the owner and staff were very friendly. We were the only people eating inside the restaurant for about 25 minutes and we had 3 different people check on us. As we continued to sit and eat, more people began to come in and order food. I think we were just early birds at 10 am on Sunday. FYI: breakfast burritos are offered all day on weekends. It was maybe 9:30 am. Our hotel offered complimentary breakfast, but I knew I would not pass this place up during my visit here. I love the hours because I eat dinner for every meal, so a Cali steak burrito for breakfast drove me here. My boyfriend told me that we should share one so we could eat more throughout the day but he folded and ended up ordering his own. Good choice because I devoured mine. The price and the size, you can't beat it. If I lived here I'd skip chipotle or qdoba and get my protein here. The service was impeccable because the owner was so personable and nice. However, later on, he surprised me, and gave me some chips and queso because he told me " since it's your first time, I would really want you to try this. It is some of the greatest queso in the city" and I would really have to agree with that it was pretty solid. He came out with my burrito and it was huge! I could barely finish it. I got the California burrito. It was my first time you've been hearing about cal-mex food. I highly recommend with the salsa (both of the house mix, and the regular green one). I would say that it was very heavy you so even though it was a bit expensive, I would probably split the burrito because all of the potatoes and cheese make you full very quickly. He ended up talking to me about why he started and I over all had a great time. The artwork was really incredible and he really added to the ambience of the placed. I would definitely want to come back here with my friends. He mentioned to me that they are starting a second location in Stone Oak sometime next year, so I definitely want to check it out! The egg and potato option was wonderful because the blending of the eggs that were well done was not taken and made dry by the addition of the potato. About an hour after eating their asada cali burrito, my husband was violently ill. It was the only thing he had eaten all day. I went to lunch with a friend and my daughter recently, and we decided to try Stuffed. The staff was friendly and the food is made fresh to order. The burritos are huge! I got 2 meals out of mine. I know it's "the thing" for this style of burrito to load them up with fries, but it's just not my thing. The flavor was good but don't come here if you're watching your carbs! When I ate the 2nd half of my burrito the next day, I took all the fries out before reheating it. The chips were awesome, fresh and warm and nicely seasoned. I was hesitant on the queso, but it was really good too. Way better than that place on the burg or the "liquid gold" from the supposed best queso in town. This has both those places beat handily. Their "secret hot sauce" extra hot, which I believe is quite different from the house sauce, was a unique habanero sauce and if you like the heat I'd highly recommend you try it.
