I had given up on Chinese buffets back in 2014.I know that the people that run some of those Asian food buffets would not eat the food they served to others.Oily, over cooked tasteless stuff. It was ubiquitous...from North Dakota to Minnesota. It was worst in smaller towns. Well not anymore! Guess who's back...back again...buffets back...tell a friend! Teppanyaki Grill and Supreme Buffet has renewed my faith in Asian food buffets.I walked in hesitant but very soon my hesitance turned in to unbridled happiness. The food was fresh and hot! A concept that works! A few things stood out like the Teppanyaki Chicken,Roasted prime rib and hot and spicy chicken! The fried rice was prepared well and fresh. The chicken for the hot and spicy chicken had crunch when bitten in too. The Mongolian grill was nicely kept with tons of fresh choices of meat and fresh veggies. They also had a sushi bar.The amount of different varieties of food was almost endless. Desert was a treat with the chocolate fountain and real ice cream that had to be scooped! If you are around Minneapolis this is the spot to check out for Asian buffet food.

My first plate. Not a bad selection

So i have seen several billboards advertising this buffet. After awhile i looked it up and no one had anything horrible to say and some even had some great things to say. I made the decision to try it last night with my boyfriend. First impressions? The location isnt in a calm suburb and stores around are okay. There is Aldi and Family Dollar plus a few other businesses. The sign for this buffet is huge. From the outside it doesnt look like an average Asian Buffet but it doesnt look spectacular either. Now when i stepped inside i was actually impressed. The place looks very clean and well spaced out. Theres a lot to choose from on food. Very nice inside. It took awhile before we were seated which was disappointing because we can visually see several vacant seats. I think the hottess took her time yo seat us. At first we stood behind a few people but no one greeted us. The desk where money is taken there were people but they didnt sat anything to us. Customer service wasnt looking good at this point. After being seated the service was good. Our drinks were always filled and our empty plates didny sit for long. It made up for the uncertain moments when entering the buffet. Price wise this place isnt bad.$11.99 for dinner but it does not include drinks. That is an extra $2. But even with that its reasonably priced. Now for the important part.... The food. It was.... Average. Nothing had an exquisite taste. You do though have a huge variety to choose from but taste wise it wasnt something you cant get from any other asian buffet. I can say i was happy that seafood was always piled high and me loving crawfish loved that. The ice cream section was nice and liked that. You cab scoop your choice of ice cream then theres several toppings to choose from. My final thoughts... It was okay. I wouldnt mind going back but im not going to go raving about this place to other people.

You pay when you first arrive with cash or card (they only take visa and mastercard). Note that if you pay with a card and add a tip, they will just give you cash from the register for the tip amount to leave at your table when you leave. I would bring cash to tip your server with at your table. After paying, you can seat yourself anywhere and a server will come by and take your beverage order. The buffet includes unlimited soft drinks, drip coffee, and hot tea. Their Dr. Pepper is extra syrupy compared to normal fountain drinks, would recommend! Throughout the meal, the server will clear your empty plates and at the end of the meal they will drop off fortune cookies and towelettes. Crab days are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. During these days they serve lil crabs. There is also a build your own noodle station where you can choose your mix-ins and sauces, and they'll fry it up for you. The fried rice is solid and the garlic toast is shockingly really good. Food is pretty fresh and warm, and there are people constantly refilling trays and cleaning the buffet.

The restaurant is located in a strip mall, and most of the businesses in that strip mall have signs posted saying "No buffet parking," which limits the available spots unless you don't mind walking a short distance. We got there just before the dinner rush and managed to find a few open spaces. Inside, the restaurant was beautifully decorated. We went up to the front counter, told the gentleman how many were in our party, and paid for our meals. One thing that stood out was the tip process, when you choose to leave a tip during payment, they hand it to you in cash so you can personally give it to your server. I thought that was a really nice touch from Dragon Star. The buffet itself had an impressive variety of options, including a Hibachi station. What caught my attention about the Hibachi was how the two cooks used a round grill and long sticks to prepare the food, it was entertaining to watch and they made sure the food went neatly into each customers bowls. However, one thing I didn't like was that the pork and chicken were placed too close together and were touching, which isn't ideal for those of us who don't eat pork. On the plus side, the cooks kept the grill spotless between uses, which was great to see. They also offered plenty of desserts and had a ton of seating. Despite the limited parking, the buffet is reasonably priced, has a good selection of sushi, and offers a great dining experience overall. My wife and I definitely plan to return, next time we'll try to go before 4 p.m., since things get pretty hectic around 5, but that's to be expected with all the good things Dragon Star has to offer.

There was no one to greet you, I think this is mostly a take out place on the weekdays. I go into the back where I see a buffet looking area, before that i see that there are two papers on the wall. A price for in-dining, per lb and a price for take out. There is a young man there and I tell him I'm eating in. He takes a plate, and loads it which what I want. It's a shame its by per lb, because there were so many good item so to try, but I could only put so much on the plate. I got greens, yams, black eyed peas, bbq chicken leg and mac n cheese and jerk spaghetti. The food was overall good and I loved the jerk spaghetti and bbq chicken leg the best. They ordered bbq chicken, smothered chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, green beans & cornbread. If i'm being honest none of the food looked appetizing in the serving trays so I was already skeptical. I've always kind of heard mixed reviews about MS but it was still on my list to check it out. My job allowed us 1 meat option, 1 side + green beans and cornbread. I got the bbq chicken and it was sitting in a watery bbq sauce (which was explained by a coworker serving it as it's a bbq gravy?) I got the baked mac and cheese, which a soul food restaurant should be able to deliver... it was just salty! The cheese burnt on top was inedible and it overall it wasn't good. The cornbread was really dry. Overall not good.

That will be $47." My partner's card declined at first swipe, which was loudly announced. But we got through and were provided our 4 paper napkins and one set of cutlery each. Only to discover 4 dirty & underwhelming buffet lines. And a sea of rude & dirty people. Not a single cut of red meat in the building. The "crab legs" were imitation crab (not even sure that's legal). The shrimp were whole- had to peel and de-vein them myself. Remember the 4 napkins? Extra miserable when you have to rip through your own seafood with your hands. The flavors of what I did try were abysmal. Only thing decent were the egg rolls. Flies buzzing everywhere. The cookies are obviously store bought from Sam's or Costco, the jellies are cheap, the cream puffs were also store bought. The ice cream didnt even look good. You can find better Asian cuisine in the frozen aisle at dollar general. The staff are all incredibly rude. The middle aged woman working the dining room was following me around so close that she stepped on the backs of my heels, twice. And hovered over me as I ate. The employees at the food line also love to hover and actively get in the way. I truly expect to become sick from eating here. And will update when i do. My partner tried one of their doughnuts and ate nothing else- wish we had just walked away when we encountered that snot upon arrival. I'm reporting them to the health board and BBB.

Let's start with the obvious: it's a buffet. We're getting our own plates, our own refills, doing the whole "DIY dining" thing. Fine. But for that price, you'd expect at least decent food. Instead, it was bland, forgettable, and sitting somewhere between lukewarm and questionable. Now the part that really sealed it: as we were literally getting up to leave, an employee approached us and demanded a tip. Not suggested. Not politely mentioned. Demanded. Then another staff member came over, pointed at the receipt, and told me I needed to tip. I'm actually a generous tipper, happily so, when it's earned. But being confronted like that? That's not service, that's pressure with a side of audacity. I even tried to clarify, thinking maybe gratuity wasn't included and I misunderstood. I was told, "No, service is completely separate." Okay... then maybe make that crystal clear somewhere? A sign, a note, literally anything. I would have gladly run to my car to grab cash and come back if it had been handled respectfully. But after being cornered and told I had to tip? Absolutely not. If your business model relies on tipping, act like it. Don't ambush customers on their way out like they're skipping out on a bill. Between the overpriced, underwhelming food and the aggressive tipping situation, this was easily one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while.
