Good place if you are craving some curry entrees, thick ramen noodles and gyoza! Inexpensive price for the portions of food you get; not to mention how tasty the food is as well. I always order the Mochiko Chicken Curry Combo that comes with regular saiminand 4-pc gyoza. Haven't really tried any other combinations, but majority of them are similar. The food here is a fulfilling mixture of excellent and cheap. While I'm not a ramen connoisseur by any means, I've always left here feeling fulfilled, and it doesn't drain my wallet, either. I prefer the char sui ramen; it is very filling and delicious, and does not cost that much. For the price, the serving sizes are very good, and the service is quick. Man was this place great. I'm not from the area so I didn't realize there is a downstairs to this plaza but luckily I was steered in the right direction. Daiichi Ramen is Better! You get more for your money. Portions are small here. Also, you have to walk all the way around the parking lot to get to public restroom which is filthy. Having kids and eating out is more difficult than dining alone. To find a place that kids love and can eat, well that's awesome. This is one of my kids (3) favorite place to eat, believe it or not. I ordered the spicy garlic shrimp. This outsider was shocked to find that it comes with legs still attached. I know you can eat them but it just doesn't seem appetizing and it was pretty unexpected. Curry came out cold / late and they brought me the wrong ramen. Had to wait for them to reheat the curry and by the time it came out I ate the fried rice already. The curry sauce didn't look to great the afternoon I stopped in for a quick lunch. It was seasoned well and there were bits of veg in it, but it was clear that the curry was thickened with something. It was almost as if it was congealed. Had the mochiko chicken and rice curry, and the croquette and rice curry. The mochiko chicken was decent, but I've definitely seen it done better elsewhere. The croquettes were done quite nicely. It was obvious that I was served the bottom of the rice pot. Not a huge gripe, but it just looks weird. Also ordered a coconut bubble tea. Really sweet, not there greatest I've ever tasted. The one thing about this restaurant is you get what you pay for. Called in our order: 2 seafood ramen combos and went to pick them up. Evidently the woman who took the order didn't hear that it was 2 combos instead of one. No apology, no nothing. Had to stand there waiting in the sun for about 15 minutes. While standing there I had a good view of the kitchen. What I saw turned my stomach. Touring here and wanted to try something new and I yelped curry and Sumo Ramen & Curry came up. It wasn't the best reviews but it seems like a good start. Place wasn't hard to find and there were 2 workers on inside (cashier and cook). I read a lot if reviews about mochiko chiken that I decided to give it a try. I ordered the curry version. It was ok and for the price can't complain too much. The chicken was a little sweet which I'm ok with but I dislike the fact they only have mild curry. The gyoza was really good as well. The food was good overall as everyone else stated and it only took 8 mins to receive food. Staff were friendly as well. I might try ramen if I have a chance to go back before I leave. read more

I am astounded that this place has 3.5 stars, which I am chalking up to the niceties of local reviewers. This is the second restaurant I have been to where I did not eat my food and the first restaurant where the majority of our party would not eat the food served. At peak Sunday lunch time, we were the only customers dining-in. I was hoping this was a sign that most customers order-out. Everyone on the table ordered ramen (tantan) and we asked for gyoza as well. The ramen was inedible. The noodles were store-bought and overcooked (to a sludge). The broth was extensively thickened (to an almost Japanese curry level thickness) with peanut butter. There was no taste besides peanut butter. I do not think any customer would recognize this dish as ramen. Unfortunately, we never received the gyoza because that component of the order was forgotten. The waitress asked if everything was ok and I told her what the problems were. She responded with further questions and gracefully accepted the criticism. Although she did not offer any discount I don't fault her because it was obvious she would not win us back for a second try. However, her professional response was noteworthy and I would like to give her credit. I asked other previous customers of Sumo Ramen and Curry what they thought and they all agreed; this place consistently serves below-mediocre, processed, local/Asian food. Sumo Ramen was a favorite spot of my son & I. We usually went early to beat the dinner rush as this location has minimal seating. Not only cheap but the portions were huge! This establishment was highly disorganized during dinner time. I went to get take out before the dinner rush started. As the other customers streamed in they could not keep up with phone orders and bite squad requests. My food was sitting on he counter for 30 minutes. As I watched my food turn cold before my eyes, I asked for a refund. The manager/ owner a middle aged Chinese feller with a muscle tee two times too small for his dad bod was amazingly unpleasant. He put up a facade of not knowing how to speak English in order to get away with being rude. Luckily for me I can speak in his native tongue, however he was still quite brash. Overall I would have rather eaten a sun noodle ramen from the supermarket instead. The other order we had was even worst. It was the spicy beef ramen. In all honest truth, it was probably the worst ramen I had. The broth tasted like a mix of raw Ginger and Chinese spices. Noodles were chewy and stuck together. It was so bad that after a bite or two we had to order something else. Waitress asked why we didn't like it. We said it tasted funny. This is my second time here, and I knew what I was getting into, food-wise. Sometimes I get in the mood for mediocre ramen! The mochiko chicken is good, but the broth is on par with a ramen packet. The service was just ok before, but today it was absolutely terrible. The counter person rolled her eyes when I asked for water, and she was super impatient when I asked how much extra it would be to add vegetables to my dish. I knew I was bugging her, so I tried to be deferential and respectful and showed lots of gratitude. I paid the extra $1.75, but the ramen came without the extra vegetable. She was bringing food to other tables, and actively ignores me for maybe 10 minutes. She was full on angry with me for telling her there were no added vegetables! Since I know she won't respond to me at the table, I'm now dreading going to the counter to ask for a to go container. read more

This is a great cheap eats kind of restaurant! Great Service, Great menu to choose from, Good shoyu ramen,& good ramen, pork fried rice, gyoza combo! The tables and chairs are in the back so you dont feel like youre staring at a parking lot. The ordering counter is right at the entrance when you walk in. The menu is huge with pictures of mostly all the dishes so you can get an idea of what you are ordering. Then you walk down the hallway and pass by the cooks that chef it up in their kitchen! As you walk to the dining area in the back, it opens up and we always sit at the same table on the right side. Its easy to order what you want, the girl that takes your order is really sweet, and the food comes out in 5-10 minutes! So fast! The waitress is really good about refilling our water, and she is catering to my daughter and gives her half a glass of water with a straw in it! Very kid friendly here!! We have been eating here on a semi-regular basis for a few years & it's our fave Sumo. My younger kids enjoyed only the shrimp fried rice for a long time & have recently "graduated" to the ramen combos. My oldest prefers the chicken katsu curry combo & I usually get the shrimp tempura udon with a side gyoza. I also like their cold soba special. Service is good, we have never been over asked about how we're doing & except for the occasional wait for gyoza, it's pretty fast. The only issue we have ever had was with other diners who were grown adults swearing left & right, not caring about any children present. read more
