I arrived early in the morning and noticed only one staff member running the floor. I genuinely felt for the guy--handling customers, checkout, and operations solo is no easy task. That said, the surrounding area felt secure, with police presence visible downtown and nearby, which added to the sense that this is a safe and well-situated location. What truly surprised me was the product selection. Tucked among the standard natural-market staples were Asian grocery items you wouldn't typically expect to find in a store like this. Considering the cultural diversity of the neighborhood, it makes perfect sense--and it's a win. While this won't replace a full Asian market experience, it comfortably earns the title of a diversity market, and that's something worth appreciating. Given my post-surgery restrictions, my purchase was simple: fresh fruit and a health drink. Checkout was quick and efficient, and the staff--yes, the one guy--was polite, attentive, and communicative. From a customer-service standpoint, it was a strong first impression. The only letdown? Sunac is the perfect combination of high prices, poor selection, and poor service. They misprice their already overpriced food (then won't stand by the prices). They (rudely) shut their doors at 9:45pm even though they are supposedly open until 10pm. The morning griddle is always overwhelmed. I used to love this place before the pandemic. The sandwiches and hot bar were really good. Now it's the opposite. The sandwiches are either wet or have barely any toppings for the price. The soups are so disgustingly sweet. The hot bar Mac and cheese was so bad I could only take one bite. What happened? Such a convenient spot just a few blocks from the convention center, offering a fantastic variety of fresh, delicious food. My personal favorites are the salad bar, sushi, and soup bar--all fresh and yummy! They also have a great selection of hot and cold sandwiches, bowls, and a hot food bar by the pound, making it easy to grab a quick and satisfying meal. Also there's a grocery section in the back, which makes it even more convenient. This is my go to place when working around that area! read more

My friend working from home frequents here a lot for affordable, quick meals in the range of $7-15 usually, which is hard to find elsewhere in Manhattan. I decided to check this place out as I'm busy working and wanted a quick meal. They have sandwiches (with the option of having it toasted), sushi, hot food buffet, and many more varieties of food. I opted for the hot food bar as there's a lot of variety and there's a lot of seafood. You are charged by the pound, so it made sense for me to load it up with seafood and protein, which I did. The hot food does the job for a satisfying meal, and it was around $11. You're paying for convenience and variety, as the food itself is nothing special. Seafood is not too fresh but also does the job to fill you up. One downside is that the hot food is actually barely lukewarm, so I was a bit concerned with the food safety, but looks like I am okay so we good. read more

Did a "reno" job across the street in Sky Towers and went here for lunch. I've lived in NYC for close to 14 years and this was by FAR the WORST deli sandwich I've ever had in NYC. And if i really think about it, "prolly" my LIFE. Sandwich maker (short spanish guy wearing blue mask afternoon of January 27th 2024) was very rude / not friendly, to the Indian guy in front of me who wanted to make a vegetarian sub and he first told him "no subsitutions" then asked him 3 times what kind of meat. The guy thought he was being pranked for a second. He then considered leaving but asked for his manager then all of a sudden the sandwich maker knew how to make a veggie sub. I ordered an italian sub. turn around for a few seconds to find a bag a chips. turn back around and a sub is on the counter. Deli man didnt say if was mine or what, but i thought "dang that was fast". I asked him if this was mine, he said "of course" (no, it wasnt of course, pal...) I only understood how he made it so quick after I paid for it and unwrapped it bc he BARELY put any meat on it! And NO oil as listed. c'mon bro! DO yourself, money, and quality of life a "YUGE" favor and walk to 10th avenue and frequent one of many REAL NYC deli's who know how to make a proper sandwich. It'll be worth the walk. After dancing the night away, this market was open and waiting to feed the hungry at 1:00am. The buffet was pretty much depleted of all its fish items. Lucky for me they had plenty of soups, salads, rice, beans and other staples both hot and cold to choose from. I had brown rice with black eyed beans while hubs had a montage of chicken, ribs, and salad. Too tired to move we dined in with the other party goers. Sunac affectionately known as Sunackys at my old job. I used to work up the block from here tears ago and recently decided to revisit to see if they still had "it" . Well. Yes, they do! Still a busy, bright place to find many harder to find ingredients hiding out on shelves with a price tag only Manhattan could get a way with. They still have great hot bar food which I literally survived off of at one point in life. Lots of great, vibrant and delicious options. Nothing short of damned good for a hot bar. It's good to see they're still thriving in these times. I love to see place I loved before still on their feet and doing well. That's the spirit of NYC for you! The best part, there's seating inside where you can eat. The other best part, you don't have to tip anyone since everything is self serve. We have been coming here for the past year since we moved into the area. At first when we would come we didn't like the people that worked here at all. They were very rude and not very helpful. But then over time they started to become nicer. It's almost like they had to get to know us first. LOL. They have a huge selection of prepared foods at the hot bar and the salad bar always has sushi and other cold dishes. They always have about 10 different homemade soups ready to be ladled. Along with being a supermarket there's a wonderful deli that offers cold sandwiches, and hot sandwiches. There's also a lovely salad bar, sushi and a hot food bar that's sold by the pound. Recently, my spouse and I stayed at a couple's home, for whom we pet-sat/house-sat; and - lucky us - this delightful natural market was right down the street from where we stayed for a week. (My only regret is that I didn't go in until toward the week's end!) So, I went in twice - toward the end of that week - and both times I shopped there, the staff members were kind, helpful and welcoming....especially the lady who worked near the pastries section. I only tried a few things, but rest assured that their buttery, fresh croissants and delicious sushi were all excellent -- even for competitive, NYC standards. I've frequented this establishment for over 10+years & it's been a safe place amongst the chaos that is the west side of Manhattan. It's actually been the last 3 years I discovered how big the market actually is. Now I understand why it's categorized as a market, they literally have everything you could possibly need for your body & home. I love their vegan soup options, though they aren't always available I'm obsessed with the pea & lentil soups. They prepare great sandwiches & the buffet food is good(depending on the hour you're there)so later in the day, after 3-4pm the food looks & taste a bit old. Not every item, but some things like the rice or noodles. I figure leaving food out under lights & heat all day, it's likely to do what food does. I love the flower options they offer, I've purchased many over the years. From what I experienced the store associates are hard working & nice. Thankfully like the rest of the store, the restrooms are always clean. They have a vast array of fruit & vegetables. Though you're going to pay a pretty penny, it's safe to say the items are of high quality. They have seating, but it's pretty tight when it's a busy work day or weekend.(It's Manhattan)Lastly, I'm happy to see them offering a lot more vegan/plant based food & snack items! Warning to customers, stay away!! This place has no clue about customer service and how their employees should treat customers. I go here every day during the week for lunch. Each and every day I have to ignore the horrendous customer service until today. The Hispanic men who work behind the deli counter and grill are disgusting people. Their comments in Spanish about female customers and their horrible attitudes in general are disgusting. I understand Spanish fluently and was appalled by what I was called in Spanish to the deli counter persons co worker. They have no right to speak to and about anyone in that manner. This place is not great. I'm convinced the only reason they have business is because of their proximity to large apartment complexes on 42nd between 11th and 12th. The convenience and availability of some hard-to-find Asian groceries is the reason behind the two stars. However, the lack of the other tree stems from the price (it is EXPENSIVE) and the staff attitude which is often "I can't be bothered" I try not to come here when possible, but sometimes it can't be helped. read more

Had breakfast here before a meeting at the Javitts center. It is a large bodega type market with several food counters for bagels, sandwiches, coffee or even full breakfast. I shopped here today for the first time and this market was way bigger than I thought it would be. I was pleasantly surprised to see all the wonderful goodies they had that will cost you a pretty penny. I came here to stock up on "the essentials", since I just moved into the neighborhood. I bought a 3.5oz of instant coffee at $7.99 small half & half $1.99 9oz box of gluten free cookies at $7.99 regular bag of skinny popcorn at $4.99 bottled coffee at $3.99 ceramic mug at $9.99 hot plate from the food bar for about $8.00 My total bill came to about $47 which is pretty steep, but if you're in a bind and don't feel like doing a huge amount of grocery shopping then this place will do just fine. The cashier at the checkout was very friendly and helpful, especially when I had noticed that I was being overcharged for the instant coffee. The price on the item read $7.99, but it rang up $12.99 and so she double checked it for me, but she returned with no answer, so she just honored the price as it was marked. And this is something I really appreciate, because it shows they are willing to work with their customers (if a mistake has been made), or at least in my case. My only tip when shopping here is to pay attention to what the items are marked (advertised as) and then pay attention at checkout so you don't end up overpaying. This happens anywhere you go, so just make sure you're paying the price that you think your paying. I look forward to shopping here whenever I find myself in another food-emergency. read more

This place has the worst customer service (if you read recent reviews, they are all negative too!) I was speaking to someone there for pickup order of a simple egg sandwich at 10:55am. Their grill closes at 11am. They told me it can't be done ("the grill is closed") but I go there frequently and know this is not true. So I ask to speak with a manager. The manager tells me I need to call 10 minutes earlier but I could have used a delivery service to order the food. I'm baffled, as it's way cheaper for them to take a direct order. I explain that I go there a few times a week and it's just a quick egg sandwich and they treat me in the most rude way, lying and telling me that you have to call 10 minutes ahead, which is not true because there's no sign and I've ordered from them less than 10 minutes to 11am before. So, that person spoke with their "boss" (and wouldn't let me speak with them) and then told me "they were going to put up a sign going forward"... which furthers my point that they had no rule ... and IF THEY AREN'T WILLING TO TAKE A CUSTOMER'S ORDER WHO GOES THERE FREQUENTLY TO SHOP LOCAL, WHAT OTHER CORNERS ARE THEY CUTTING IN THEIR BUSINESS. IF YOU CAN'T DO THE LITTLE THINGS RIGHT, LIKE TREAT CUSTOMERS (not even just loyal, repeat customers) WITH FAIRNESS AND RESPECT, WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON? (read other's reviews). The general tso was hard, fried rice was ok, Mac and cheese was sort of strange, and their Korean style meat was oily. All of this mixed on their lunch plate into a disappointing mess. In the city to do a show and the Javits and this place is really a great option for anything to eat or drink. I am impressed with how busy it is regardless of what time it is. I read a few other reviews- one specifically stating that there are fake reviews because who comes to the west side from all over the country? Exhibitors and attendees buddy - that's who and locals who are working in the Javits and don't want to pay $10 for a cup of coffee. I can't compare the pricing to any other local markets to make the statement that they are more expensive- I think any of the markets near the Javits are pricey because they can be. You have a limited amount of time grab and go so this is by far the best option. I appreciate that I can order a breakfast sandwich for 4 bucks and it is made to order. Stopped in here this afternoon for the first time since my May review, temporarily forgetting that they allow dogs in here. Sure enough, as if right on cue, within 10 seconds of being in the place someone came in walking their dog. No employees said anything to the people with the dog. I asked one employee about it and he just shrugged his shoulders. If you care about food safety, do not go to this place. Overpriced and bland tasting food. The staff are incredibly unhelpful and rude. It takes forever to order something and they often mess up my order and then blame me for not explaining well. It is your job to listen to whether I want cheese on my sandwich, and I'm already waiting for a replacement. The buffet just sits there and tastes unfresh. The groceries are marked up 50% across the board. The coffee is essentially instant coffee. The only good thing about this place is that they are open late and there is nothing else around the area. The price for a sandwich is $5.95 (extra for cheese and additional items such as pickles, jalapenos, etc). Ok, seriously?! We need a SUNAC in Los Angeles! Our friend lives pretty close by, so SUNAC became our one stop shop for all things food, snacks, and stuffs. My hubby is a huge fan of bacon, egg, & cheese on a roll and was intent on finding one all morning. We jumped into SUNAC at our friend's suggestion. They have EVERYTHING! On our first visit, we ended up with a bacon, egg, & cheese on a roll, 2 egg, bacon, potato platters, 2 coffees, and 2 large fresh squeezed juices for $33. Like, what?! The rolls and platters are both under $5! AND, they were so delicious. You are definitely getting your money's worth. On the second day, I decided to try this famous roll and got some fruit, along with the coffees, another roll, and another platter. Still in the $30 range. Still delicious. I didn't get to try their hot food selection, but it looks off the hook! That mussels topped with crab looked legit. At 10:30 am, the food was steaming hot and fresh. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! Sunac SUCKS! Sick of stupid policies, and very rude staff at food stations. It is appalling to me that they have perfectly good food just sitting in the hot pans (getting dried up) at a station that just happens to be in front of the grill, which they shut down right when most people like me are trying to get a lunch (about 2-3pm). So if you want something from that station, that doesn't even require the grill, the staff won't serve it to you, or will give you grief about how that station is closed. (Tactic to force you into getting their overpriced buffet items?) I went right to the "assistant manager" who informed me that although the grill is closed for cleaning, if a customer asks for something from that station that does not require the grill, the staff is supposed to serve it. The last time the staff did this, I boycotted Sunac for nearly a year. Now, this is the last time I am ever going to this place. STUPID decision to close the grill right when there is a late shift trying to get lunch, and absolutely unacceptable to refuse to sell food based on this idiotic policy. The most infuriating part of this is that they actually do a decent job with the food, so being so un-accommodating is just utterly asinine. And whomever is replying to these: Don't give me lip service. If you really want to show you care and want to have my business ever again, you arrange to have the deli and grill staff apologize to me in front of all of your patrons. It definitely has the essentials and more. The more... I came in here around 11:30pm to see if their hot food selection would be any good at this hour. Surprisingly, there was a lot of food still leftover to choose from their buffet. I had the beef broccoli, orange chicken, mashed potatoes, and fried rice. Wasn't outstanding and wasn't gross.
