We had to inquire as to where our food was 40 minutes later, and were told there were still two tickets ahead of ours. Manager noticed us looking around and asked is we were waiting for our food and we said yes, obviously not happy. He said he'd get right on it. Five minutes later our food did come. Had to try the newest breakfast & lunch spot in Seal Beach, Sunny Side Cafe & they exceeded our expectations! Their location is conveniently located close to the 405 freeway and had plenty of parking. We arrived around 12:30 during the height of lunch hour rush and were seated right away. My friend has dietary restrictions and they were extremely accommodating with her special requests. I tried the shrimp tacos and they were divine! Big luscious pieces of shrimp and a hefty portion of guacamole. We also tried the overnight oats and it was so fresh and tasty with almond butter. The food is delicious and so aesthetically pleasing. The food was delicious and the quality was amazing! We started off with a parfait for the table and it was the best one I've had a restaurant the fruit was so fresh! For our mains we ordered the French toast, burrito, chilaquiles, and the breakfast sandwich. The cinnamon butter spread thing was amazing, I will crave that. The chilaquiles were flavorful, I love the green sauce and the feta was so good and creamy. The brioche bun on the sandwich was the perfect touch. The breakfast burrito was a good size and not greasy, definitely add avocado! And to finish off we tried the key lime pie, the crust was literal perfection! The food is good but the service is not do good. No one in the building smiled or welcomed you and meant it. The only time we seen a big smile is when we left and the hostess smiled big and said have a great day. The waiter was not so friendly and the lady who brought us our food was NO smiles too. Weird. Well, after having such a wonderful dining experience at Sunny Side Cafe the other day, my wife and I decided to return to sample their lunches (brunches). The last time we were in, we ordered from the breakfast menu which was delicious. We certainly wanted to order off their lunch menu. Before I get into that, unfortunately, we didn't have Joanne as our server who was fantastic. However, we were assigned a table which was attended by Janelle. Janelle was also fabulous, which leads me to believe all the staff at Sunny Side Cafe are the best of the best. Now back to lunch. My wife and I ordered different menu items. Neither of us were disappointed. The food was beyond delicious. The whole atmosphere at Sunny Side Cafe is, well "Sunny". What a wonderful place to dine. Anyone who goes to this Cafe will enjoy themselves. But that's not all. We got to meet the owner, Katrina. What a wonderful young lady. She put together this whole dining experience. We chatted for a little while and she has quite a story. It was so nice to meet Katrina. It was extra special to meet the woman who created such an extraordinary place to dine. Well, it won't be long until we return. Our only question is whether we order from the tempting breakfast menu or select off the unbelieveable lunch menu. Just leaving now. And we were surprised it was still daylight. Seated immediately, order taken quickly, then we lost interest. We waited and waited... and waited. Diners who came in after us got their orders before us. And we just had a burrito and bacon and eggs. The servers stopped by with sincere apologies but no plates. I don't fault our server, he hustled. But 45 minutes later, we were ready to call it. Then the food came. Food was fine, normal, ordinary, nothing outstanding by any means. As a mom of two toddlers it was the perfect environment to have a family breakfast. The staff was very attentive and the food was amazing. My kids loved dancing to the music. Fast, courteous service and plenty of seating. Very sunny inside, not too dim like many restaurants and I like that. The presentation of the food was nice however .... I love Chilaquiles but only with fresh tortilla chips and sauce/salsa. I asked the waitress if they make their chips or if they come from a bag/package. She told me they are freshly made. That was the deciding factor for me. These chips were thin and not very crispy and not flavorful as fresh made tortilla chips usually are. The sunny side up egg whites were not set. I could not vibe with that so I asked for them to be run back under some fire. The chef offered to make me another order of eggs which was nice, but I just wanted the entire dish to be put under fire for the eggs to set and any part of the food some might have touched plus the chips were not warm. Further, the green sauce was flat so all I could taste was the tartness of lime juice, no salt, cilantro, or garlic flavors came through. The tart was so overpowering, made it impossible to enjoy the combination of flavors from the cheese, chips, eggs and meat that should meld in your mouth and party together. I ended up eating the steak pieces separately because it cost an additional $7 and I didn't want to ruin that part. The steak was totally worth it. Fairly tastand cooked to my specifications, but the Chilaquiles should cost less if they are not frying up fresh strips/chips and adding a flavorful and comforting green sauce. I also ordered coffee which was basic diner coffee, nothing special outside of coming with free refills. The biggest take away for me is, if the name of your food establishment is the same as one of the items on that menu, you better make sure you master that item. NOTE TO CHEF: Tilt that pan towards you and spoon the hot oil over the unset white around those yolks! read more

This was our second visit, the first was for breakfast. Today's Lunch was definitely five star worthy. My husband had a cup of the Chicken Orzo Soup and the Triple Turkey Club with French Fries, he said both were very good. I had the 1/2 Sandwich (BLT) w/Soup (Tomato Basil) & Salad with Vinaigrette dressing. The salad came out first and was very fresh with iceberg lettuce, tomato's, persian cucumbers, red bell pepper, thin sliced red onion and purple cabbage. A bit later the soup and 1/2 sandwich came out, the soup was the best I've had containing a few garlic croutons and just enough fresh basil, drizzle of olive oil & wee bit of grated cheese. The bacon in the BLT was a bit under done for my liking so I sent it back to be cooked more and it came back perfectly cooked. Our server was attentive, friendly and personable. There are still fresh flowers near the front and the inside of the restaurant is very clean, bright and well decorated. Even the ladies restroom is inviting. I recently enjoyed a lovely birthday celebration luncheon with 8 of my friends and colleagues. Janelle, our server was friendly, attentive, helpful and accommodating. I enjoyed a delicious grilled chicken sandwich on Ciabatta . My friends raved about their meals. We all vowed to return ASAP. The restaurant is clean and attractive. First impression is that it is a nice refresh of thr original Denny's decor. The chorizo and Popeye omelettes were great, however I ordered the potatoes with peppers and onions and it became a whole ordeal. Initially it had no sauteed peppers and very little onions. Then the waiter said he would bring me some sauteed peppers which were never produced. He tried several times and the cooks seemed to be extremely confused about what sauteed peppers and onions actually are. I eventually got up and gave back my now stone cold potatoes and asked for an entire redo. The waiter offered me a discount and brought me a plate of hot potatoes with cold diced peppers and onions.. I pointed this out he took them away and eventually brought back hot potatoes and grilled onions and peppers...not sauteed but at this point I'm done and no longer in the mood. Sigh...at least he took off my breakfast. Maybe we will give it another try. But, probably not. read more

My husband and I checked out Sunny Side Cafe today for lunch & we are so glad we did. As others had mentioned in reviews, the interior has a very open atmosphere so that even on a rainy day, like today, exterior light was throughout. My husband had the Chicken Fried Steak with hash browns & a cappuccino, I had the Turkey Club with fries. I chose sourdough bread which was hearty with a toasty crust & soft elsewhere. The turkey was thin, which I prefer to the often too thick gelatinous style poor quality places serve. The light seasoned mayonnaise, shredded lettuce, & crispy bacon were excellent. The highlight was the house made fries! They were lightly salted & nicely crisped to perfection. It was huge & I took half home. My husband hasn't had Chicken Fried Steak in years, but he felt it's a diner staple & if they could do it right, it's a good sign the restaurant will do all else well. It did not disappoint. He said most places kill it with salt, he actually added a little salt, which is a good thing. Hash Browns were crispy & not overly greasy, biscuit and gravy was great too. They have an expensive, brand new espresso machine & my husband said his cappuccino was just right with robust flavor. Service was fantastic too, you can tell the staff has been trained to be courteous & greet everyone with a smile. Our waiter Bobby was so sweet & efficient, he new his menu & what to recommend. We were stuffed, but the open kitchen with the yummy in house baked goods were staring at us! Bobby gave a chocolate chip cookie on the house, so nice! Dang that thing was awesome, & I'm a chocolate chip cookie snob. It was thick, almost like a brownie cookie, with that Toll House Cookie taste, they warmed it up there. We took half of it home, so delicious. I love supporting local business that are family run, I hope this place does well as it doesn't have the Main Street foot traffic. We will be back. read more
