We tried Super Shack on a Thursday night. They had a decent sized crowd and the service staff were all nice. The food was good. We enjoyed the etouffee, clam chowder, fish & chips basket and a catfish w/ shrimp basket. The negative is that the prices LISTED on the menu are for CASH ONLY purchases. I had shrimp, oysters and catfish with fried potatoes. Shrimp was the best thing I had and it was fair. Oysters were inedible, tough and cooked in burnt oil. Catfish was cooked well but had the off flavor of mud or algae. Just not good. read more

We were some time ago and it slipped away from me writing about this place. We loved it. The people are friendly and the atmosphere was great. I had shrimp, my wife had coconut shrimp, the rest of our family had various items off the menu. We all agreed that we would definitely come back. This place has been here at least a couple of years, if not more. One word, Great! The three owners are all usually here and making sure everyone is taken care of. My family and I have been coming to super shack since they opened. In fact, we usually go 2-3 times a week! They truly have become our seafood staple here in McKinney. Their food is always fresh with CONSISTENT good quality, which can be hard to find. I usually get the shrimp, which are seasoned perfectly! Or the fish tacos, which truly are THE BEST fish tacos I've eaten. The sauce they use on the tacos is out of this world!! YUM!! The catfish is also a family fav. I asked the girlfriend what she wanted for dinner, she mentioned seafood, so I figured we'd try Super Shack again. She had the Fried Shrimp basket with a Pepsi and I had the Fried Catfish basket with a sweet tea. Both included fries. As I mentioned previously, they were "just short of 5 stars". Super Shack was my go to for fried seafood when I lived in Fairview. They have other than fried, and it's good, but I love the fried catfish baskets with the most amazing fries. A cross between a regular fry and potato chips. You order at a counter and they bring it out. Besides typical seafood fare, they have Mexican inspired seafood cocktails and Michelada cocktail. So disappointed this evening. I'm a faithful customer - I MEAN FAITHFUL. I was there day one of their opening and have referred so many of my friends and family. When my mom passed in 2020 we ordered a TON OF FOOD!! Anyway - I ordered door dash ($130) and my husband's entire meal was missing - I called and the girl said, I'm sorry, it was DoorDash so there is nothing I can do - I hung up and went to Super Shack. Asked for the catfish I was missing. My issue is that I paid $40 for steamed crab (that had no sauce at all) and corn and potatoes (totally dry). My problem is that no one really cared - I spent 27 more dollars for a drink while I waited for my husband's meal - while mine was getting cold at home and I ordered another order of hush puppies so they would be hot - they did not accommodate. The ACTING manager said she was from another store and would ask the owners - really? Are you going to talk to the owners? I'm eating ice cold $40 crab without a sorry! The ladies in the store had a bad attitude because I was complaining - but rightfully so. I was polite. This was a terrible experience and I feel like no one cared at all. Always have great food and great service. You order at the counter so the timing of the food might be a little off as some items are sent out as soon as they're ready, but I've never really had to wait that long. read more

First let me say that unfortunately I didn't snap any pictures...shocking. But please believe me when I say the quality of the food is great. I randomly found Super Shack courtesy of Yelp! for a surprise lunch for my grandpa's 73rd birthday. The reviews are really what solidified my choice. You have to order at the counter, which is not a problem to me at all, although I have noticed some reviewers are confused by this. We never once waited to be helped, the "line" moved so quickly which is surprising for a Sunday afternoon. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful and was very patient with my shy 8 year old who refused to ask for ice cream (it's free for kids and the cookies and creme is devine!!!!) We were with a group of about 10 and everyone was pleased with their food. The fried pickles are GREAT. The raw oysters on the half shell were fresh and a great first experience for me. My sister and I shared the Super Shack Platter for 2 and it was delicious. Be warned that it can be kind of salty! I'm not sure if you can request less seasoning but in the future I will try to cut back on that. Everything was so great. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in McKinney!!! read more

My family and friends (group of 6) came for Sunday Lunch and the food was okay. We unanimously agreed that it would be similar quality to a buffet style restaurant's food. It doesn't taste like the best quality, but probably a step up from fast food. One of our party commented that the catfish seasoning was bland, as was the fries. The fried pickles were great, until we were going for the last one and something shiny caught my attention sticking out from under the pickle. It was a SHARD OF METAL. For 3 meals, we paid almost $40. The kids meal did NOT include a drink- So we paid for her drink, a small kids cup. We won't be going back. I can get pretty much the same quality of food half the price elsewhere, without wondering if shards of metal are in my food. Also, the restaurant was very clean, but the bathrooms needed some work. They had screws holding in the light fixtures, with no covering. I hate leaving a bathroom feeling like I'm dirtier than when I went in.... yuck. My advise is skip this place. Overpriced and I don't trust it one bit. read more

"It's a NO from me dawg" I went to this place yesterday since someone recommended it on the Next Door App.. BIG MISTAKE NOT A SINGLE DROP OF SEASONING.. I MEAN ZERO. I have never.. NEVER EVER heard of corn meal battered shrimp.. like where they do that at?? My "fried" shrimp were crusty, and the grease it was cooked in obviously needed to be changed. I also tried the Alfredo shrimp pasta... ONCE AGAIN, no seasoning, except for a little bit of parsley they threw on for color I guess. It's a seafood restaurant for Christ's sake.. I would expect for the pasta to have some sort of Cajun seasoning or at least a little bit of salt and pepper. The seafood itself tasted extremely fishy.. if that makes any kind of sense. This is probably due to the lack of seasoning. I honestly should have known that this place wouldn't be any good based on the area it's in, the people eating there and the other reviews. This place became our favorite the 1st time we came to try it. The service is awesome, the people are friendly, the food is amazing and the price is impressive. A few things you should know if it's your first time- You order at the register and they deliver to your table. If you order an adult beverage you should wait and take it to your table with you otherwise you can go strait to the table or your choice. Unless you plan on leaving cash on the table the top should be done at the register when you check out (I recommend that). They will come by often and check on you and clear your table. This just opened and is a close copy of The Fish Shack in Plano. Has a full blown bar and lots of bar seats around it that many were enjoying. They have a variety of fish and shrimp combos, along with an assortment of soups and sandwiches. Including a burger! I am a sucker for a great burger, and I am always searching for the best, at a reasonable price. I ordered their bacon Cheeseburger, minus the bacon, as I was going for a pure taste experience. The burger is large, and the flavor was really great with the flavors provided by the char-grill coming thru. This is one of the better burgers I have tried in the last year. Am I going back? Very similar to Fish Shack in Plano. Walk in, order at the counter/bar. Cashier gets you drinks and takes your order, but since only one person is doing both beverages and order taking, the line did not move as quickly as I anticipated during a weekday lunch. The shrimp cocktail is delicious, with your choice or mild, medium or spicy. Medium was just right for me to finish the whole thing without my lips feeling like they're going to fall off by the end. The calamari had a crispy and flavorful breading, but their very chunky dipping sauce (tomato based) was a little bland. I wouldn't mind a lemon aioli as a different choice. The chicken and sausage gumbo was excellent, and probably the best I've had since my last visit to New Orleans. The kitchen probably should have wiped off the side of the cup before sending it out, as it had dripped down the side in multiple places. (I'm nitpicking, I know) The fried shrimp platter here is a little unique in that they give you 7 shrimp instead of 6 like most places, and they were a very nice size. Fries were the frozen kind out of the bag, but crispy and well seasoned. The place is new and very clean, and a server/manager stopped by our table to offer refills and check on us at least 3 times during our lunch which was a great first impression of the service here. I would say that our only snafu was the food runner delivered my shrimp cocktail first, and tried to take our number, but we had 3 other items we were waiting on. After telling him that, he let us know our items would be out shortly. Maybe an expo issue? I'm sure it will work itself out soon, and I'm glad McKinney has a place for the seafood basics. read more

We had the crawfish with potatoes, sausage, and corn. The ordering process was very easy. We ordered 10 pounds for 3 adult men and 3 adult women, which was a great amount. We had a bit leftover, maybe 1/2 pound or pound or so. I consider that the perfect amount because if we had run out, I think that's too little. Reason is that when you have guests, you don't have known if anyone had wanted more. But a little leftover was perfect. read more

First time here for lunch. For what you get --- in this case two catfish and shrimp dinners with only sodas for drinks --- it's seems pretty expensive at over $43 with tax. The food itself is some of the worst I've ever eaten. The "french fries" are a badly thought-out cross between a real french fry and a potato chip. Mostly just a lot of surface area to convey the grease. The catfish had a somewhat weird texture to the breading which -- of course -- would not adhere to the fish but fell off in big chunks. The shrimp also suffered from the same breading and, despite being butterflied and flattened still managed to be somewhat under-cooked. All-in-all, one of the worst dining experiences of my life --- sadly, a McDonalds fish sandwich that has been sitting in the warming tray for 20 minutes would be a standard of achievement this place could only dream of. read more

Go for the onion rings over fries. Fries were good and fresh but the hand battered, extra crispy, heavily seasoned onion rings were some of the best ive had! My first time trying this restaurant was a couple weeks ago. At first it wasn't the best experience. I ordered the crab legs for 2. Well it wasn't was I consider a meal for 2. Not enough food. Obviously the real expense is the seafood so why skimp on potatoes and corn? The food was good, but lacked the flavors of typical seafood seasoning. I found out later that you have to request the seasoning otherwise it's plain. You should tell customers this when ordering. Then my wife decided she wanted to try the hot n spicy shrimp. Well HELLO!! Now that's what we were looking for!!! Good portions overall but they still skimp on potatoes and corn. The spicy sauce used on the shrimp is magnificent. That dish hooked me on a return visit! I'll continue to come back, but it would be nice to get more potatoes and corn hence the 4 stars. read more
