Not sure if there's an ATM on site but there are lots in the area. Ordered two flavored green teas. Definitely on the sweeter side but still very refreshing. Soup dumplings (not pictured) were phenomenal. The pork flavor was deep and light at the same time. The beef and broccoli and beef lo mein are also solid options. The name doesn't really matter as long as they keep turning out the most frigging awesome soup dumps in the whole frigging city (and yes, I'm I'm including the boroughs, am not a Manhattan snob). I love dumplings, they are my favorite food, so my friend was super excited to show me his favorite dumpling place in New York City. All their dumplings are home-made and are very tasty! I ate sooo much that it was little hard to walk around after... We ordered a lot of different dumplings, because I wanted to try them all~ We ordered the wontons Szechuan style, pork and leek, shrimp, and pork soup dumplings. My favorite by far was the wonton Szechuan style! They were in a chili oil and peanut butter sauce that was AMAZING! The spiciness of the chili oil was not overpowering due to the peanut butter that tamed it. It was just amazing (I ate most of them)! My least favorite was the shrimp dumplings, I was not a fan of the wrapping that was used, but they were still very tasty! The shrimp they used was huge and great quality. The pork and leek and soup dumplings were also very good! The food here is very good! Don't expect to be seated right away. They have lots of seating, but there are a lot of large tables so if you're in a small group, it might take longer to get a spot. We waited about 15 minutes. They have signs saying they accept cash and debit cards. A lot of reviews said they only accept cash. All of the people we saw there were paying in cash. I ordered the Soup Dumplings with Pork and the Scallion Pancakes. Both were excellent! I was impressed by this place and will be back. The food is cheap too. Always a stop for hot hot mouthful of "soup" dumplings. Although Joe's Shanghai is well known in the area, this original restaurant has been around since it's first location on East Broadway. Owners have turned around, but their soup dumplings are excellent. I do miss their original Shanghai noodle soup. Affordable pricing for portions. Service is attentive. Street parking is meter around the restaurant 6 days/week. Just drive to Mott, left Canal onto Elizabeth for meter, left onto Hester for meter, and left onto Mott for meter. Solid choice for soup dumplings. Craving xiao long bao on a Saturday, we decided not to go to our usual soup dumpling place and give Shanghai Dumpling a try instead. The soup dumplings/xiao long bao are solid: we particularly enjoyed the pork and crab ones, as you can actually taste the crab, and the soup contains crab roe. The fried tiny buns with pork are also delicious: nice and fluffy on the outside, juicy and tasty on the inside. I totally loved these little things! Other items on the menu were just meh. Ok, service isn't the best here but the food is solid and that's all that matters. The soup dumplings are delicious with some of the thinnest skin xlb I've ever had. They give you a strong house ginger vinegar sauce to go with it. I always eat it piping hot and they put them fresh all day. You can see the people in the front just making it all day long. I get a fried rice every time, this time the House Special Fried Rice that has shrimp, chicken, ham, egg, peas and scallion in it. Sooo good. I came early for lunch on Sunday, but by the time I finished my meal it was packed and a line of people waiting for a seat. My friends and I came for outdoor dining on a Saturday night around 6:30pm. Their enclosed outdoor seating set-up had about 8-10 tables; at capacity, it felt much too crowded and made social distancing difficult. However, a visit during off-peak dining times is okay. The food was just okay, especially compared with some of the rave reviews I've read. To start off, the famed soup dumplings ($5.95) and the pork fried dumplings ($5.95) had very thick wrappers and were not super flavorful. Similarly, the shredded pork & preserved cabbage rice cakes ($9.95) was also extremely underwhelming, and required additional soy sauce for flavor. Thankfully, all was not lost as the roast pork buns ($5.95), although very standard, were tastier. The best dish we had was the crispy whole fish with pine nuts ($25.95) which was fried perfectly and came smothered in a sweet and sour sauce. read more

Came here to get two things, xlb and fried pork buns. Ordered the crab and pork xlb and just pork xlb. For some reason I always think the crab version will taste great to me, but it always lets me down (even in Shanghai). The pork ones were great though. They come out piping hot, don't break when you transfer them to your spoon that contains a generous portion of vinegar. A lot of soup inside and pretty fatty pork as well. Everything is just what you would expect from a good xlb place. If I had to nitpick, the top where the punches are for the xlb is could be a bit thinner, had to give a couple of extra chews for that. The fried pork buns just didn't have any juice, everything else was really good, the crispy part of the bun, the juicy pork filling, but I still have yet to find a place in the US with fried pork buns like in Shanghai. My fiancé and I are regulars at this place. It was closed for a while during the pandemic and we thought they would be closed for good. So happy to come by Chinatown on Lunar New Year to see this place is opened once again! We came back on Valentines Day and had the must get soup dumplings (#2) as well as my fiancé's favorite beef pan fried noodles. The sauce were delicious in the middle with the edges with just the right crispy perfection. A new dishes we tried in their dessert section was the egg custard bun. It did not disappoint. My friend and I came here for soup dumplings. We ordered the pork soup dumplings and the crab with pork soup dumplings, each order came with 8 dumplings. The dumplings were served with black vinegar and a hint of ginger. I thought there should be more ginger, it was literally tiny thin couple of strips. The pork dumplings were more flavorful than the crab one. They do use real crab meat but I can varely taste it. The soup was a little bit oily, not as clear as it can be. The skin of the dumpling were thin but not transparent. The skin were also not sticking together which is good, wont have to worry aboit breaking it. Wow 老味道 aka old taste (the Chinese name of this restaurant) was the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. We ate in my car after a long hungry day of errands rather than dine in during the pandemic. My order took about 15 minutes to come out. They made the soup dumplings right there from scratch while I waited. The mustard greens with minced pork with rice cakes, a classic Shanghainese dish was amazing. Piping hot and delicious. The rice cakes came out super soft. Everything was delicious, from the shanghai noodles with the thick hand made udon noodles to the soup dumplings, which were some of the best I've had. The price was amazing - $42 for 5 dishes. The quality and quantity and price at this place was amazing. We especially appreciated how great it was after having Chinese food in midtown for lunch that same day. No comparison! read more

This is my OG favorite spot in Chinatown even though they've now changed there name two or three times - it's the same delicious food! This is where I was first introduced to soup dumplings (theirs are so so good). I also love their scallion pancakes and moo shu pork. Another hidden gem on the menu is their mock duck - it's just really delicious tofu and mushrooms with a cool texture, one of my favorites. If you like greens, ask if they have snow pea leaves because they also make those very well. And to top it all off, everything is literally so cheap, but note that it is CASH ONLY. Rag water in our food. I went here to eat awhile back. We got sat on a big table with two other parties. We ordered 2 orders of dumplings and it comes out, when we were dinning a server spilled water all over my table next to me. They came back to clean it with a dirty rag. There was so much water that the server was splashing the dirty rag water into out food!!! And NOBODY apologized or came to check if we were okay. We wanted to order more but left hungry because it was too gross. As we were leaving The cashier yelled at us that we didn't tip enough. I was already mad about the disgusting water with no apologies, and for her to yell at me about not enough tip, i was furious. I gave her more and left. I hope no one comes here. I think the food here is 4 star but I have to take one star away for the service. I came here with another 8 people on a Sunday night. My friends were coming from Florida and had never tried soup dumplings before and they would really like to try them before they leave nyc. It was around 9:10 and most of the soup dumplings that I know of were already closed. We googled it online and we saw that this place was going to close at 10 so we went there to try our luck. We got to the restaurant at around 9:20 and they told us that the kitchen would be closing in 10 min and they were closing at 10 so we had to hurry if we wanted to eat there. We were only going to have some soup dumplings and some pork buns anyway since we all had dinner beforehand so we knew it would be quick so we agreed and they seated us. We only ordered 2 orders of soup dumplings and 2 orders of pork buns and they were not happy with how little we ordered and told us that they would not serve us if that was all that we were going to order and made us to do it as a takeaway order. Soup dumplings are hard and messy to eat on the street so we really didn't want to do it. While I understand that was very little food for 9 people, they had already seated us and gave us water and utensils at that point. I don't think it would make a big difference in terms of the amount of work they needed to do to serve us. The fact that it was not a lot of food also meant that we would be able to eat quick so that they could close on time. We would've left a generous tips if we were dinning in since we understood that they were closing. The lady told us that we had to spend a minimum of $8 pp if we want to dine in so we didn't really have a choice but to do take out. Our order came out pretty quick and we probably only waited for 10 min for our food. The lady looked very salty when we paid and refused to take credit card even though it said on their door that they accept credit card if the order is above 25, which our order was. They knew that we had at least a few people eating but only gave us two pairs of chopsticks and we had to asked for additional spoons. The soup dumplings was pretty good. They were all filled with soup and none of them broke when we were trying to eat them. I do wish the wrapper to be a little thinner though. We got both the crab soup dumplings and the regular soup dumplings but tbh, I couldn't really tell the difference between the two. The steamed pork buns were also very good. They had a lot of fillings in them and the roast pork was seasoned perfectly. Overall, food was pretty good but service was bad. If there was going to be a minimum spend, they probably should've put that outside of the restaurant. I have had better soup dumplings in Chinatown and I will probably just stick to those in the future. read more

Tried this place in the evening time. This place has attentive staff but food was subpar at best. The food lacked flavor and seemed to be a typical Shanghainese fast food restaurant. All the items were pretty greasy and prices were a bit inflated even for NyC's Chinatown standards. Tried the Fried Soup Dumplings, House Special Udons, Salt and Pepper Squid and lastly the bean curd with edamame and cabbage. Avoid the bean curd, it was extremely bland and kind of boring to eat. In fact, this place is so casual that it's not uncommon to sit with other diners at the same table. It doesn't bother me. We came on a weeknight and were promptly seated. The soup dumplings were pretty good and piping hot. I personally preferred the pork over crab since it was more flavorful. I didn't like that there was a lot of extra skin at the top of the dumplings because it was too doughy. The fried buns had a really thick bottom and tasted alright. We were in a booth and we somehow squeezed six people into it. Maybe when it's not winter and everyone doesn't have thick coats, it's much a easier fit, but it was way too cosy.
