Sura was one of the first restaurants to go on my must-try list for Long Beach Food Scene Week. Had an early dinner, so there was no wait to speak of and was seated as soon as I arrived. This was my first visit so I didn't realize it was a QR code menu (and no one mentioned it while seating me) so when my server came to take my order a few minutes later I was not prepared. I placed my entree order (Bandeja Palsa Bimibap - a Korean Columbian mash up created in concert with Selva), but was once again at a loss when asked if I wanted any sides. I declined for the moment because I had no idea what the options were and if they were included. After my server left I did pull up the menu, discover the side options, and ask for all three to be brought out. Before this meal I would have told you that I don't like kimchi and I don't like sausages. It turns out I just don't like cheap bottled kimchi. Sura's was so good! And according to my server it's vegan as well. The sausages were also a delightful surprise. And that aji amarillo gochujang sauce? Amazing! Honestly this place is nothing special and it's overpriced. The pork meat plate literally just came as a few slices of pork. We played extra to have a lettuce wrap and it barely came with anything. Bibimbop came in a hot stone pot that wasn't very hot and didn't crisp the rice at all. Also the portion was smaller than usual the Bull was not that full. It was expensive too for both meals so we thought it would be a bigger portion. Then we did the Mother's Day special for $75 I think it was and they discharged us and ended up charging us for each individual item which we didn't notice until we already left. On top of that they forgot to bring out the soup which comes with a meal and when we reminded them we asked for it to go but they brought it in a normal sizzling bowl to the table instead. Service was slow and it just felt like some mishaps, expensive meals, small portions, etc. Bonus that they have a nice vegan menu and it all tasted good but overall just wasn't worth the price, the poor service were the issues we had. Not to mention parking is atrocious. Good luck finding street parking we drove over on for 15 minutes on a Saturday evening. I loved it here! Went today, there was a little bit of a wait but it was no problem. My meal was so so delicious. we got rose tteokbokki and corn cheese for our apps. I was in LOVE with the flavor of both of these. We got the ribeye bulgogi and the bulgogi bibimbap. I am a huge fan of bulgogi so I could be bias but it was so good! It's a very nice spot as well, plays good upbeat jams and the customer service was great. Everyone was friendly, they asked how we were doing in multiple occasions. Really appreciated that Sura made it easy for vegetarians not familiar with offerings to have a full Vegan menu to order from. Our server was outstanding, very attentive and there when we needed her. (For instance, when our grill ran out of fuel) Patio seating (no grills indoors) worked well and we were kept dry during a brief period of heavy rain. Food Their Pharaoh's feast is a good option if you are looking for a vegan KBBQ spot. It is not AYCE and they will make sure that you know that it is not an option there. They also do have a one time banchan and will not refill for you. Found that the small option is perfect for two people although another table of four did split the small so take that as you will. Loved that they gave you so many things, but the lunch special is so much more worth the money. Service Honestly not the best. Felt super rushed the entire time and they really were trying to turn the table. They also would not let go of the Toast handheld and really hovered when tipping so I felt pressured to actually tip well. They did not let us cook ourselves and kept throwing all of the meat on us, but also did not refill our water or check in on us. Forgot the drink that we ordered too and did not even apologize. I know that there are not many KBBQ spots for vegans so want to come back, but feel that they are a little too quick for more tables so not sure if it is worth it. Ambiance Make sure you know they get busy on later nights/weekends. They do not take reservations so be prepared to wait and hang for a table if you want to do KBBQ. This place is a vegetarian's dream. Fully vegetarian/vegan Korean barbecue - and everything tasted delicious. Came with a group and ordered the package to try multiple items, the bulgogi was definitely our favorite item from the package. Started coming here when I first moved to Long Beach and came soooo often. Most of the menu is really good and pretty shocked at the flavor of the vegan options. I haven't been in a while but looked at the menu today and holy guacamole. I'd rather drive to Koreatown for bbq at that point. First time dining here and it was good! Parking is very limited so you'll have to find street parking which is also very difficult, the area is pretty busy. I love that they had patio dining. We ordered a fish bowl, it's 51oz so you definitely need to share with a friend. Most of the fish bowls are sweet, so keep that in mind. There was 3 of us and we ordered the Moo package. It came with the perfect amount of meat, fried Mandu and 2 sticks of rice cakes. The meat was tender and perfectly marinated. We also ordered kimchi stew with pork which I thought was really good! Came to Sura to primarily try out their vegetarian menu. I am not vegetarian myself, but my friend is, and I wanted her to be able to try more than one item on the menu without getting too full. We visited on a Sunday around 3 PM, and our party of four was seated immediately. If I am remembering correctly, they only have grills outside, so if you want to grill/cook yourself, you can't opt to sit inside. They have a convenient small parking lot in the back of the restaurant, but I imagine it'd easily be overwhelmed and unavailable if the restaurant were busier. FOOD: I split some vegetarian options with one friend, while the other two wanted to eat one of the small meat combos (not AYCE). Vegetable Dumplings (3.5/5) - We got them crispy. It had a soy protein and vegetable filling and came with a small dish containing a dipping sauce. Overall, it was just okay, and I think it'd explore more exciting options next time. Vegan Bulgogi BBQ (4/5) - Though it definitely doesn't beat actual bulgogi to me, this vegan alternative was really enjoyable. The marinade was great, and the texture was pleasant. It came with a side of white rice, and the "meat" was topped with a hefty handful of green onions. My vegetarian friend seemed to enjoy it overall. I love this restaurant !! I've been a customer of this location for some time and left my first review over 3 years ago. The space has great vibes and is perfect for special occasions. Staff goes above and beyond for every guest. I truly think that the sundubu here is the best you can find in Long Beach. I definitely recommend the 'spicy' spice level for the perfect kick. I would not recommend the kimchi fried rice as it just tastes like gochujang with not much kimchi added. During my most recent visit, I did have a peculiar interaction with a waiter who did not recognize menu items with korean names and made a comment about being disgusted by the kpop videos played in-store. I will say I was not impressed with the short ribs and the banchan was fine, however they had a Sonoratown korean tacos special for one day and I'm hoping it'll be more often because they were top tier tacos - easily the best fusion ones I've had. Spicy pork - Yes, it has a kick. Everyone in my party ended up with a happy hour-priced drink! I was super pleased with my lychee green tea -- the fragrant tea still came through and it was fruity without being too sweet. Perfect for balancing out the piping hot tofu soup! - Seafood pancake: Great flavor, but only the edges were crispy. The insides must've ended up more steamed than fried, because most of it was soggy immediately. - Pork belly tofu soup: I got this mild because I have very little spice tolerance, and it was perfect. Ratios of meat to tofu to egg and veggies was just right and still really flavorful without the spice. Absolutely obsessed with this place. The food is incredible, it's the first KBBQ restaurant that we can't stop thinking about since we moved from SGV. The portions are huge, I wish we had checked out the reviews on sizing prior to ordering because we ordered way too much food for two people, but plus side, we had food for a couple of days after. We tried everything we ordered, and it was all delicious. The service is really great, everyone is nice. We went during a pretty quiet time, so I think we got lucky. My friend and I had such a great dinner here! We came late on a Tuesday night and we were really surprised with how many people were in line at 9 pm on a weeknight. We put our names on the waitlist but the restaurant somehow missed it, but when we inquired about our wait, they immediately sat us down and got our food out so quickly! We sat inside, but the outside seemed like a lovely vibe. Also, they don have a small parking lot in the back which was so helpful! To start the customer service was horrible , The Manager with a Mohawk was extremely rude after I told him that there was a roach under my table which made my experience even worse !On top of that the bathrooms had a horrible smell and did not seem properly maintained . First, very easy to miss the parking for this place if you can't find street parking but there is a small alley way that leads to a few spots in the back :) This place was pretty cool in that if you wanted kbbq, you sat outside but if you wanted other food you sit inside so it's nice to not have to walk out smelling like kbbq! There is a back parking lot but it does fill up pretty quickly. It fits about maybe 15-19 cars. I do feel like some of the employees were friendly while others were not. Originally we asked for outdoor seating for the bbq but when we saw other menu items we opted for those. So we were asked to get up and move inside. The server that asked us to move honestly wasn't friendly about it and seemed like he was only focused on getting the next customer to his table. Our inside server was much more friendly and so helpful with the menu. The food was really good. I think the tofu and shrimp were the best. The ramen is EXTREMELY filling. i've eaten at a lot of korean places in my life, and i would say this one was extremely good! my friends and i made it in time for happy hour, and we were able to try a lot of things: - corn cheese: standard corn cheese i feel and suuuper cheesy - rose tteokbokki: creamy and not that spicy, but still good. the rice cakes were chewy and not too soft - korean fried chicken wings: very crunchy and saucy! we got the cracken flavor (sweet/spicy), and it was more sweet than spicy - pork dumplings: crunchy and flavorful, pretty standard dumplings - seafood pancake: yummy and loaded with seafood - baja blast fish bowl: i enjoyed this hehe it was pretty good with a good amount of alcohol, and i liked how they added a rubber ducky and light up cube for cute vibes our server was also so kind! i unfortunately did not get his name, but he was really nice to us in explaining the menu as it was our first time there. he gave us all the banchan to try, and he gave us a soju bottle on the house too! the parking lot is behind the restaurant and pretty small, so i would advise to carpool if you can! read more

The quality of meat here is really delicious ! I came here with a group of friends through a reservation. It is NOT AYCE, it's priced by package so whatever you pick comes with said meats and sides. If you would like more or extra it will cost more. Shoutout to our server, because it was our first time here and we weren't aware so he didn't charge us for the extra corn cheese. We did end up paying for the extra appetizers after being aware. Staff is very nice and attentive, it's a small place but it's pretty vibey I suggest sitting outside even though it is colder the ambiance just feels better eating outside. It's a little pricey for me but to each their own, I would suggest this place to a friend and come back if I had the money to treat myself out. I have yet to try their outdoor Korean bbq menu, but my favorites are the rose tteokbokki (add cheese and ramen of course), seafood pancake, japchae, and their short rib. Their banchan is so good as well (especially the bean sprouts)! It makes me really happy that there is good Korean food in downtown LB! The service here is always top tier. Solid Korean spot. Ama approved! Highly recommend the shareables. As the portions and quality are on point. I loved the FRIED CHICKEN WINGS, which were huge tender pieces with the crunchiest thickest and sauciest exterior. And they came with a side of crispy fresh hot fries! The JAPCHE which is usually served cold and as a bonchon was an appetizer, which came steaming hot. It was also huge portion, which I loved. The CRISPY RICE CAKES were great as well with a softer interior and crispy exterior and good sauce ratio. All the BONCHONS were good too and unlimited. The cucumber and shredded sweeter radish/carrot were my favorite. I would say my least favorite was the tofu soup with beef. I got mild spicy to be fare which might have not added as much flavor. I am beyond excited that Sura got the permits to host grilling - I no longer have to travel to OC anymore. Especially once they open another location with AYCE. When you look at their KBBQ platters, be mindful that a small combo actually feeds two adults. Yes, even if you feel like you can eat an entire village of food. You get an abundance of meats, banchan for the gut, and side dishes (they encourage you saying if you don't want something included as to not waste food). *Despite me mentioning meat, they do have a vegan KBBQ option! The other neat newish thing to me is adult Capri sun drinks - and they're BOGO $1. Just trust me on this. Get a passionfruit or strawberry yogurt one. The electric lemonade one is a bit harsh. Went on a Sunday with a party of 8 and waited about 10 minutes for their biggest table. Our server was very helpful, kind to and patient with us considering our larger party size. I ordered the vegan scallion pancake for the table which was perfect because it came with 8 slices. Each slice was a fair size. The pancake was crispy and tasty and the soy-like sauce was a nice pairing! For my main, I got the vegan japchae with tofu. Fortunately, the tofu was no extra charge! Inside, there is a bar. Indoor seating is restaurant style (no tabletop stoves). To get the classic Korean bbq experience, definitely sit outside where you can cook your own items. The patio is shielded from the traffic and warm thanks to the large heaters. Service: They checked on us many times. Got refill of salad and banchan when needed. Our server explained everything and gave us a great suggestion on the meat (get the marinated meat - our server said "you can get a prime rib at Outback any other day" lol). My friend who lives in Long Beach took me here when I was visiting and said this is one of her go to spots to eat. My husband and I eat vegetarian/vegan and this place had a TON of options on the menu. It was super exciting to have so many vegan friendly dishes that also looked amazingly tasty. We were intrigued by the Adult Capri Sun drinks and since we were there during happy hour it was buy 1 get 1 for $1. We each got different flavors and all of them were very good! It felt like a lot to drink but they came with a light up ice cube so it was pretty novel and fun. We all shared 3 or 4 vegan appetizers, I love Japchae so I was super excited to see that on the menu. Their Shiitake Shroom Fries are supposed to be notoriously good, I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms but they were actually very tasty! Not very mushroomy at all, lol. For my entree I got the Vegan Tofu Dumpling Soup. The broth was so hot and bubbly it took a long while for it to cool down but it was excellent. My husband got the vegan bulgogi. It's pretty rare we get to find vegan bulgogi so we were super excited. It was tasty but it was basically just a huge pile of imitation meat. I think the sauce could have been a little more flavorful, but the portion was very large so I think it would be easily shared with multiple people. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is covered and they have heaters if it's chilly. The bathrooms are indoor but you need a code to unlock them and I think one was out of order so there was often a wait for the other one.
