Mall food court sushi can't be that good can it? Well, on a busy Saturday afternoon at Lenox Mall, I found the sushi from Sarku to be surprisingly fresh. As you'd expect from a "fast food" sushi stand at the food court, the sushi selection is simple and limited. The menu offers six main combos (rolls, nigiri, sashimi) and about a dozen different rolls (six pieces each). They serve standard inexpensive rolls, such as salmon, tuna, California, and various vegetable rolls and sides such as seaweed salad, edamame, and miso soup. Nothing too crazy. The combos run anywhere from $7-9. I tried their "Salmon & Maki" combo, which includes three pieces of the following rolls: salmon, tuna, (imitation) crab, and cucumber, and also five pieces of salmon sashimi. The sushi is served in a disposable tray (just like the ones you see at grocery stores) with a clump of wasabi and ginger. You get soy sauce yourself from what's really a drink dispenser. As mentioned above, the sushi is actually fresh. The rolls are a little small. It's not going to blow your socks off, but it's above-average from what you'd expect to find at a mall food court. Service can be slow when the shop is busy, but the sushi chefs are working feverishly at full capacity. No complaints over here, I won't lie I was a little bit nervous ordering sushi the first time at this location just because usually when I order sushi from anywhere other then a sit down, fine dining restaurant the result is usually hard rice with a side of unhappiness. However this location has really good, fresh sushi! Everytime I go I order something different which isn't normal for me, especially for sushi because I like to usually stick to what I know when it comes to sushi because sometimes you'll end up with something weird. My most recent visit I ordered the Japanese bagel roll, it was delicious just like every other roll I have ever tried there! I've been here a few times. I forgot how good it was though so I decided to go back yesterday and ordered the volcano roll and the Green Dragon roll. It's 15.99 for any 2 fusion rolls. The green dragon roll is a shrimp tempura and cream cheese topped with avocado, eel sauce and masago. The volcano roll is spicy tuna on top of California roll with spicy mayo, scallion and crunchy flakes. Both were yummy. I would definitely come back for more, probably to try the rock and roll, spider roll and the 3 sushi hand rolls. I wouldn't mind getting the green dragon roll again too. Maybe not the volcano roll because it's a California roll at the end of the day. :) read more

I'm so new to sushi, but this littleLenox mall food court sushi bar has helped create a California roll addict! They got me by offering a sample so fresh, that I actually turned around to go back and order some. The price is remarkably low, $3.99 for 6 rolls. The rolls are smallish, but filled with very sweet and fresh tasting crab and avocado. I love being able to see them make the rolls right in front of you and how clean everything is. The presentation of the rolls is nice, I have friends who have ordered the shrimp tempura rolls ($5.99) and they come in a pretty little tray. There's a very small assortment of menu selections and I don't think anything is over $8. They also have a loyalty card that you get stamped to earn a free California roll after 6 stamps. So I may not be a sushi expert, but I'm smart enough to know this is good, cheap fare! read more

This is exactly what you'd expect of a food-court sushi bar. Prices are low (rolls around $4, miso around $1), and the food is of unremarkable quality. We ordered a Vegetarian Zen platter, a couple of rolls, and a cup of miso soup. I got the soup quickly enough and stood around waiting for the food. The guy behind the counter held up a tray of sushi and called my order number's last two digits, and I took it and stood there waiting for the Vegetarian Zen platter. Eventually I realized that he had no freaking clue that I was standing in front of him, or why, so I pointed out that I was still waiting for the Vegetarian Zen platter. Once I dug out my receipt to prove to him that he'd forgotten half my order, he got around to making it. The miso was watery, even after I stirred it up. There was about 12 ounces of it for $1, so my only suggestion would be to reduce the amount of water by half and give me the same amount of miso paste, tofu, etc. in 6 ounces of stronger broth. read more

This was my second time eating at the Sarku Sushi Bar, located near the escalators in the food court of Lenox. The first time I knew exactly what I wanted and was able to order and receive my order fairly quickly. The food was nothing spectacular, however, is nice that you can watch them prepare it through the rounded, glass window. My second visit however, was much different. I came at lunchtime on a weekday, although there was not a line formed, as I stood back from the cashier about 6 feet, the cashier spoke at me incessantly and I felt pressured to order immediately, despite not being able to think because she was constantly talking to me. Even as I began to order it was very obvious that she was trying to upsell everything I ordered. Despite the food being good, my experience was poor because of the customer service/ordering experience. The pricing is reasonable compared to your typical brick and mortar sushi spots. They offer 7-9 dollar combos on rolls ,nigiri and sashmi. They offer larger 40-100 selection combos in a price range of 18-40 dollars. Dont expect the the sushi in a plate of a boat. They use standard disposable trays. You can get rolls for 7.99 and it's enough to fill you up. The wait time is about 10 minutes, if that, and you can watch as the chef makes the sushi which is pretty cool. Busy Saturday with the family at Lenox and did not really have a taste for anything at the mall, but I decided to pick up some sushi on the way out and was surprised at how good it was. Sometimes I wander the mall hoping to run into someone I know or meet somebody new but most times I end up aimless and anxious by the amount of sounds and bodies that begin to close in on me. It feels like everyone is staring and my skin doesn't quite fit right. I used to come here with my boy to go school clothes shopping and coming back alone fills me with pain but when I start to get hunger pains, I know that Sushi Bar Sarku Japan is there for me unlike my ex wife. Don't let the location fool you! They have a great selection and fresh ingredients and prices that won't break the bank and make you miss any alimony payments even though your ex wife already took the majority of what you owned, not to mentioned your pride and dignity, and yet each month a bill arrives just asking for more. When will this end? I was a good father. I am a good father. What did I do, Ida? What did I do to deserve this? The next time you go to Lenox to shop around or socialize or just feel like you exist in the world, forget the burgers and fries. Ditch the grease. This place holds a lot of good memories for me but the most recent one has turned out to leave the absolute WORST taste in my mouth! I've been going to this sushi bar for the past couple of months since discovering my love for sushi, more specifically California Roll and Shrimp Tempura Roll. However, this place gets this 1-star rating is because the other day I had a really bad experience that opened my eyes to just the poor customer service they get away with... All day I had been looking forward to going to this place to get Shrimp Tempura Roll during my lunch break. The time finally came and I approached the little island bar/restaurant in the food court. There was no line waiting to place an order, just people standing around waiting for their orders I can only assume. Behind the register was this Asian woman I recognized from my many visits. Her eyes met mine and she asked me in a palpable, piercing, condescending tone, "What do you want?" Mind you before this instance I had spoken to her several times or rather placed my order with her; while she had rubbed me the wrong way just about every other time, I ignored it as I was more focused on pleasing my desire for sushi. But this time and the unmistakably high level of disrespect made me stop and ask myself will I support this business and give permission for this disrespect. No. So I responded to her question, seemingly an accusation with a "Nothing" and walked away. In recalling my experience, I've honestly never been so upset and grateful at the same time. Grateful because I realized then that respect is the bare minimum in all situations and I have to demand that, otherwise move on to other options. I'm encouraging and permitting this behavior if I ignore and continue with my plans to enjoy something temporary. I should not have to say that but here I am. I have only reviewed places (on other review sites) where I have had outstanding positive experiences but I just had to share this because there are probably a lot of other people who settle for more than just unpleasant customer service to get a product/ different service. I ended up going to Chick-fil-A (in the same food court) where I received outstanding, superior customer service and DELICIOUS FOOD.
