This is my GO TO sushi spot in Raleigh. They have a large selection and a awesome BOGO deal. I have a few favorites: eta James, Marilyn Monroe, wolf pack, and yellow brick road just to name a few. The service (for the most part) is always great and on Fridays they offer a $6 sangria that is to die for. This place is great to alone for a quick bite to eat or with a group of friends for a night out. Summer time at sushi blues is great when you can get a spot on the patio. Came here in a group of four for Saturday dinner on recommendation by a coworker for good BOGO sushi. Service: Slow service, waited at least 20 minutes after ordering for our food to come out and we had to tag down our waitress many times because she rarely checked up on us. Additionally the BOGO is applied by whole table so the cheapest from everyone who orders will be the ones deducted, which means you want to make sure you come with like-minded friends who will order similarly priced sushi if you care about paying more than your meal was worth. Atmosphere: They had spacious seating outside though we opted for the air conditioned inside. Nice hip place with some cool, urban, blues-inspired decor and our table was in a little cove that gave us privacy though I must say stool seats are not the most comfortable. Food: I loved my Jimmy V sushi roll. As someone who loves flavor but also likes to appreciate sushi without adding anything to it (not soy sauce or wasabi), the imitation crab salad on top one packed enough flavor to satisfy my taste buds. The Yummy was too subtle in flavor for me but the the shrimp tempura gave it a nice crunch. Yum yum yum! The sushi wasn't the best quality, but damn did it taste good. The deconstructed sushi was pretty unique and had great flavor. It was a little difficult to eat, so maybe don't order that if it's your first time using chopsticks ‍ The restaurant is very large with tons of outdoor seating, so I look forward to eating there this summer on the patio. The drinks were alright. I ordered a margarita and the bartender didn't know how to make one without using a mixer, which was odd but I told him what he could use instead and it worked out. I'd recommend coming here with friends, on a date, with family, etc. It's right off of glenwood so super easy to get to. I'm giving Sushi blues 3stars instead of 4 because you shouldn't advertise groupon specials if your resturant doesn't honor them. You still don't offer to split checks at a table , just ridiculous , and don't say you'll look into changing the policy because reviews from 2013 mention the same setback . The fact management saw we purchased a groupon, saw the customer service chat with groupon about our purchase of the coupon , we sat there for almost a hour after dining just to be told by management, "sorry there's nothing I can do" suuuuuuurrrrreeeeee. As for the sushi , it's rare you'll find sushi spots that offer a "bogo" option so that's a definite reason to come here , plus the rolls are good size and my mom was happy with her first sushi experience . Little disappointed that the sashimi pieces on my sushi were so thin, but I think with the bogo option it makes sense. I would recommend making reservations beforehand bc they get busy quick and bringing a credit card if you want to secure an outdoor seating section... not sure what that's all about . The sushi is good, but you won't be blown away by quality, and I question how fresh their ingredients are. Today's visit was my second time here and I'm in no rush to return. This place is so tasty! This is my second time here and I love their sushi. It does take quite a while for the food to come out. But it's so worth it! My only real complaint is the way they do the checks. With BOGO sushi they take off the cheapest rolls from the table. And then split up the remaining rolls between whoever got sushi. The prices aren't bad as well (but remember, as with any BOGO place, you can't split the bill for BOGO rolls and the highest prices rolls will be counted). My father had one of the hibachi dishes and wasn't impressed, so perhaps pass up the non-sushi stuff. Would definitely come back for the sushi! The host was super kind and sat us quickly and made sure she cleaned the table and seats. Our server was super attentive making sure our glasses were full and that our orders were taken quickly. The atmosphere is usually dimly lit, unless you sit outside where there are heating lamps. The outdoor set up overlooking the city is spectacular, and though the restaurant is somewhat casual, it gives the restaurant its sophisticated vibe. The sushi is Buy one get one, which I love! The taste is so fresh, and the options are plentiful. Reasonably priced, tasty, reliable, and fun. They have changed the decor and did an amazing job with the outside patio here. I was happy to see more than a few lunch specials that I wanted to try. The prices were very reasonable for what you get. I decided to order the sake combo - a salmon roll and 4 pieces of salmon sushi. The sushi was very good large pieces and tasted fresh. The lunch specials also come with miso soup and they serve a good one. For $9 you can't beat that deal. And unlike some of these BOGO places I've frequented you can tell that the sushi is prepared fresh and not been sitting there pre-made urgh I hate that. The restaurant is colorfully decorated with posters and art of musicians (album covers/cover art) as well as with lights strung from the ceiling. There is a good sized bar/bar area and a big patio that had a good amount of heaters. The menu has a large amount of options in regards to the food as well as drinks. We had hot sake and I also tried a cosmo or some kind of fruity drink that was drinkable but forgettable. As far as the rolls, I just couldn't say that I would want to eat them again. We tried and shared bunch of different varieties but I just remember thinking I really wish this was 'regular' sushi. And I definitely like to try special of the day/week varieties when I go to traditional sushi restaruants but I just felt like most of the rolls had things added to them to be edgy and not necessarily to taste good. I personally wouldn't go back but I think I would chalk it up to it just not being my type because it was definitely packed and people seemed to be enjoying what they had. read more

This time I had the Lennon sushi and I don't remember what I had the second. I like the sweet potato in the Lennon and the cilantro complimented the flavor. I also had a chance to taste the Crunchy. This is first time I am tasting a non tempura sushi which is crunchy. I don't like tempura sushis but these have just the flakes in them which preserves the texture of a tempura sushi. They have good Mochi ice creams. Red bean and green tea taste good. Unfortunately, this time they didn't have green tea Mochi which was a disappointment:( I felt the Red Oak beer was a bit watered down. I have never had such watery red oak before. The service was great this time. Large groups and BOGOs just don't go well here. The waiter/waitress always have the trouble explaining it and the guests have hard time understanding it. Wish it was simpler. This time to avoid this pain, we simply split the check equally. This may not work all the time as on would come to expect. Frankly I do not want to be writing this. I went today for a special surprise for my wife. Our waiter was a little short, but whatever. We were served our food and drinks. Half way through my wife notices several chunks of black mold and what could have been food in the bottom of her cup. Of course no one wants to eat after realizing they've drank mold and god knows what. The host noticed our situation and came by. He quickly took the cup to the back and our sever eventually came out with new drinks. We got a curt "I'm sorry" and were still expected to pay in full. I requested to talk to someone and was met with "I'll remove your appetizer." I would have liked to have some more sympathy for the situation. My wife is feeling pretty disgusted and upset. This place was hopping on a Monday night and we lucked out with a table inside. There are two pages of sushi rolls and all but the Nigiri are buy one, get one free. There are jazz records hanging on the walls and the names of the sushi rolls are named after musicians or Wolfpack achievements (74/83 sushi roll refers to State national titles). Our server was okay and everyone was running around running food to the busy tables. It took some time to get our order in and our check but all in all it was a pleasant dinner. Make sure you try the deep fried version of their Philadelphia roll. Yes deep friend cream cheese may sound gross but it was actually pretty yummy in my tummy. I came here on st.
