I have always loved this little sushi place, it's so close to my house and so convenient. Very small and intimate and that's actually one of my favorite things about it. The staff is so great and always so accommodating, after being there only a few times, some of them greeted me by my first name which is always comforting and shows that they genuinely really do care about their customers. I will not be eating at this restaurant ever again. Tonight I called to check on an order that had taken over 2 hours. I spoke to the manager, and I was told they were very busy and he hung up on me. I called right back and asked to speak to one of the hostesses that know me, and I was told that they were too busy to talk to me. I've been eating at Sushi Café for about two years almost every Friday night with my family. But I will be giving another sushi restaurant my business from now on because the customer service at this restaurant is horrible. If you want a variety of fresh sushi at good prices this place is for you! I've been here for lunch, dinner and have used it for take out. It's not a huge restaurant so when it gets busy it fills up fast. Went the other day for lunch and it did not disappoint. We ordered a crunchy spicy tuna roll, a house roll, a Mexican roll and a rainbow roll. Lunch came with either soup or a ginger salad. The dressing on the ginger salad is delicious. Our sushi came out rather quickly and we were offered many sauces at our table. Both of us got hot green tea which was perfect on a chilly day. The only reason for the four star review is comfort. I prefer a booths over tables positioned in the middle of the restaurant however the booth seat is shared with the table behind you. All through your meal you feel every move the person behind you makes. It's quite annoying. The delicious sushi is worth it though. So happy to have found this place! read more

i've been to this place twice and both of my experiences were mediocre. the first time i went i ordered the chicken katsu and the amount of food was well worth the price! i just thought the chicken was a bit dry and the fried rice had a bit too much soy sauce. the ginger salad is very good though! the second time i went, i only ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura. i really did enjoy the shrimp tempura but i think the price for the amount of shrimp (3) was not very well worth it. i did receive a plate of vegetable tempura and i only enjoyed the sweet potato ones. i thought there was just a bit too much batter on them and the vegetables especially the broccoli was bitter. although, the food was not to my standards, the staff is very nice and friendly :) it's not the best place to get asian food but it is quite affordable and quick to get. maybe in the near future i'll give this place another chance :) read more

After moving to Tampa my husband and I had a hard time finding a sushi spot to replace our beloved sushi place in out home town. We stumbled into sushi cafe on a Sunday afternoon and thank god we did! Everything there is so delicious and prices are much cheaper than other sushi cafes. I had the worst experience at this restaurant on my first visit. The server did not bring out one of our rolls and when I asked her about it since another server had brought out the ordered rolls. She seemed surprised which is fine and went away. After that another woman who I guess was the manager came over and pretty much insisted that we did get our roll and asked us over and over again. It got pretty disturbing since she did everything but say outright that she thought we were lying and then finally begrudgingly brought out the missing roll. It was pretty ridiculous. I went for lunch! The atmosphere from you walk in is so welcoming as the staff. Food was 100% better than the Japanese steak house down on Bruce B Downs( need I say more). The waiter suggested the Pacific Fusion Roll, let me just say it was on point!!!!! (Publix brand to be specific) I'm not sure where all these 5 stars are coming from. The sushi is a bit mass-manufactured, and nothing is very inventive or unique, but the lo mein and other non-sushi dishes are very good, and they have some decent combination specials and drink prices. Dined at Sushi Cafe today. The menu is very appealing and features items for every sushi-goer (and hibachi, to boot). My order included the Soft Shell Crab appetizer, Monster Roll, Crystal Roll and Spicy Conch and Cucumber roll. The Soft Shell Crab was tempura fried and served with tempura fried vegetables. Sadly it was not very enjoyable, as the crab was largely flavorless compared to soft shell crab I've had elsewhere and the batter/flakes it was fried in was overwhelming and bulky. The three sushi rolls I ordered were very delicious. The Monster Roll was enormous and could serve as a filling entree for an adult. Unfortunately the thing I will remember and take away from this restaurant was the server who waited on me. I don't know his name, but he was the only male working there at the time. He was absolutely dreadful, and I kid you not, only minutes after I commented on him to my partner, there was an argument at the front of the restaurant. I turned around to see a customer confronting our server and telling him that he is walking out because he felt unwelcome in Sushi Cafe. He complained that this server did not act friendly, did not smile and spoke as if he was disinterested. So the customer walked out, and the server proceeded to laugh it off while talking very loudly with his coworkers. As for my thoughts on him: I found him to be exceptionally rude, inattentive and interested only in his own voice. You can take this with a grain of salt, but I dare say that this guy actually spoke with disdain towards my table and the others that I observed him speaking with. Absolute snot. I've worked as a server for years (also in an Asian cuisine restaurant) and am generally very understanding if things are not going well. Every server has bad days, but this man's manners were not a reflection of a rough day. He is simply unfit to provide friendly and polite service to his customers. I must compliment the rest of the waiting staff there, as they were all friendly and sweet. I find it bizarre that this man is still employed. The sushi at Sushi Cafe is good enough to warrant a return trip, and had I been taken care of by virtually any other server there, I feel like I would have had a good experience. Go for the food, don't order the Soft Shell Crab, and pray that you do not have the misfortune of having that "server" take care of you. read more
