Wanted to try something new. Not sushi but a new place. So that brought us to here. You walk in to a curtain, my wife and I both look at each other with sceptical hippo eyes. Honestly I wasn't too impressed. The fried calamari had no flavor, the titanic roll was literally just ok and that was suppose to be one of their most popular dishes.....they added waaay too much imitation crab for my liking. The lobster maki roll I was totally not a fan of but my gf liked it. The side salads dressing was extremely watery but the miso soup was actually pretty good. I didn't try the California roll but my 4 year old seemed to have enjoyed it just fine. The bathroom was clean and didn't stink at all which is definitely a plus lol. Their customer service could be updated though I didn't really care for that too much. The waitress we had seemed like she was rushed or something. The lion king roll was really bland. The fish felt dry(idk why). The crab rolls were alright. Definitely not the best.

The most mid meal I have ever had in my life. Nothing close to stellar or solid. We got the golden dragon roll, the tempura maki roll, the tempura/tonkatsu dinner, and the chicken teriyaki. The tempura maki was badly made since it kept falling apart, and it needed more sauce. But it wasn't awful. The golden dragon roll was overpriced for how mid it was. The salmon and the sauce were bland and I wasn't a fan of the temperature difference between the ingredients. But again, not awful, just not great. The tonkatsu was crispy, which was surprisingly good, and the sauce had tolerable flavor. But the meat was dry. The shrimp tempura was too doughy and bland, and its designated sauce was also so bland that soy sauce was a better dip. The chicken teriyaki had sauce but there was a stronger burnt flavor that overpowered anything else. The service was alright. We weren't attended to at all, and you'd need to grab someone's attention to get anything. Which is forgivable since it was a busy place, but not forgivable for its food. read more

What does a 5 star rating mean exactly? Well for me, it means pretty darn close to perfect in my standards. Great food for a great price. $7 to $9 lunch special bento boxes from 12pm-3pm I think. The pictures look so small...but when I received the bento box, my jaw just dropped...and I was actually thinking about if I could finish it all, because it really was a lot! Completely worth it, and it's the same price as dining commons food at UC Merced... Service was great. I would of given Sushi Cuisine 5 stars if I was reviewing the restaurant only for lunchtime. Why? Because lunch (11 AM - 2 PM I think) has the best amount of food for the money you will spend. You can spend $6-8 on wonderful bento boxes that will fill you up assuming you eat everything inside of them. The waitresses are nice, and fill up your drinks ASAP. I love the bento boxes and if I could I would eat here a lot more than I should, I highly recommend the Unagi bento box if you like Eel. I also enjoy Salmon, but you only get 1 piece of Salmon compared to the other bento boxes I feel like the Salmon is the weakest. Regarding Dinner... I have only eaten dinner at sushi cuisine around 2-4 times, and it was good, but not over the top or anything. It's definitely cheaper than some other sushi places I have been to, however; the sushi is just that: okay. I'm not saying it's horrible, not at all. In fact I would gladly eat sushi at this establishment again. Most likely, I've just been spoiled, as I've eaten sushi all over the world (including Japan). The price is going to be around $12-20 for dinner, and more if you want sushi of course. The Chirashi is pretty good and not too expensive for the amount of sashimi you get. read more

Love coming here when I get a chance. My daughter goes to UC Merced and was craving sushi. This place has very delicious sushi! The sushi pieces are larger than the ones we get in San Jose and the price is great for the portions that you get. The servers are very friendly and was attentive, coming to our table checking on us occasionally. I had the salmon teriyaki which was delicious and they are not stingy with their portions. Sushi in Merced is pretty hard to find, but people seem to find their way to this restaurant. The feel of it is very small, yet cozy, and there is limited seating. The staff is typically friendly, but the service time can depend on how many people there are and fluctuates. The sushi itself is not bad, but definitely not the best. The ingredients are not the freshest and can even seem old. The consistency of the rolls aren't bad and the taste is pretty good. I suggest the red dragon roll, lion king roll, and if you're looking for an affordable roll then you can try the swamp roll. Unfortunately, if you're used to really fresh and high caliber sushi, you probably won't find it here. But hey, it's a pretty good sushi place in Merced. read more

Excellent quality sushi here, but a little pricey. The lunch menu is affordable with several different Bentos from which you can choose. They have very good steamed jasmine rice. Miso soup is tasty (not too salty) with green seaweed and small white tofu. Chicken, beef, or salmon teriyaki are all good. Customer Service is always fast and friendly. We have a glutton for punishment! Went here 3 times in the past 3 years, the latest disappointment was July 4, 2021. Old hard chicken, trust me it tasted old, but they disguised it with more than enough salt! Delicious salad though, no more trips here, you would think they would look at their reviews and improve!
