sushi damu has always been amazing! :) we came here on a saturday night for 2 people and got seated pretty quickly (20-30mins). we did the premium ayce option and it was so worth it! the ordering is super easy with a flippable sign that lets your waiter/waitress know when you're ready for your next round of ayce or when you are still eating. we got a variety of nigiri, rolls, and even got free drinks as part of their ayce promo for april. :) you really get your money's worth with how tender the fish is (and non-fishy tasting)! service is amazing as always and the workers were so kind. we will be back again! :) read more

You wouldn't think of it, but when you walk into this place it has such a chill vibe. There's some fun neon colored artwork on the walls, and some fun lighting. The service was great! They'll come check on you a bit, but you also have a sign on your table so you can easily flag them down. They're pretty quick to respond to it as well! We got the specialty drinks of the Espresso Martini, which was something that I've never seen in a sushi restaurant, but this was super smooth and it was a good chill drink. We also got to try the Soju Cider, which literally tastes like a hot toddy. It was pretty fantastic! All the food we ordered was fantastic, but boy, the smoked salmon sashimi and the Blufin Tuna (both Handrolls and Sashimi) we're fantastic. That smokyness of the salmon was great, I just wanted to make it into a Lox on a Bagel. Then that bluefin, oh man, how that thing is tender and melts in your mouth. Also, the Tako, probably the best tako I've had. It's not rubbery, it has a nice crisp to it. Then the Mackerel, it doesn't have that oily fishiness to it, it just takes so fresh. I visited Sushi Damu on a Friday afternoon for lunch and went with the AYCE Sashimi Menu. If you're dining in during April, they're offering a complimentary drink with that specific menu which is a nice bonus. The sushi came out quickly and was excellent. A few pieces of tuna were still a bit frozen, but that aside, everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. The standouts for me were the bluefin, salmon, and yellowtail in both nigiri and sashimi form. I was also really impressed with the items outside of standard fish, such as octopus nigiri. I don't normally get appetizers at AYCE sushi restaurants, but I wish I ordered more here. Their tempura was fried perfectly with not too much batter. One item I'd highly recommend if you're looking for something different is the yellowtail collar. It was fried to perfection and had a lot of meat on it, making it one of the highlights of the meal. In terms of overall quality, this was the best AYCE sushi experience I've had in the area (and I've tried five or six others nearby). That said, the sashimi tier runs $60 before tax and tip, so it's more of a special occasion meal than a regular lunch option. I do plan on coming back to try their other AYCE tiers as the appetizers and fish quality were solid across the board, so those seem like a great value. The service was great too. Staff were super friendly and attentive, and the food came out very quickly, although it was a weekday lunch so take that with a grain of salt. I appreciated that each table had a little sign you could flip to get your server's attention. Used to be my favorite ayce sushi place but I can't recommend sushi damu anymore. Everything went downhill, service was slow and food took forever to come out, their fish cuts and portions have gotten MUCH smaller with more rice. It's a tuesday night and it's not that busy with some tables open and no wait time but the food still took forever to come out and they forgot a lot of our order that we had to ask multiple times for our server to check on the rolls from the chef. Going back to the food: Nigiri, they made the cuts of fish SO MUCH SMALLER and the rice portions bigger. Same with their rolls, the crispy cali roll has rice that's basically thicker than the actual filling on the inside. Don't get me wrong I understand you have to make money but doubling the rice portions is not the move. Like come on, imitation crab is not that expensive yet you're skimping out on that and adding more rice? Unacceptable. Won't be coming back until they make major changes. Extremely disappointing especially since they're still charging the same price at $45 per person. read more

We had dinner here on Wednesday night. It wasn't very busy and there was quite a bit of parking in the shopping center that it is located in. The restaurant itself is warm and inviting. A great place to eat and have drinks with friends. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. We got the premium AYCE with the sashimi plus. This is totally worth the price. The quality of the sashimi is incredible and may just be my new favorite place for sashimi. We started with some yellowtail collar, baked mussels, mixed tempura and mozzarella. Everything was so delicious especially the mozzarella, which was like a jalapeño popper. We got a round of carpaccio. The colors and the flavors were so good. Next up was the nigiri. The presentation was spot-on and the flavors were wonderful. They even made a bunny out of the shrimp for us since it is almost Easter. The best thing was the sashimi. The best presentation of the entire meal. All of the sashimi was melt in your mouth delicious. We found out the tuna is omakase grade bluefin tuna and that they are the only restaurant in the OC to offer this! We also got to try their two new cocktails. The first was a warm soju cider. WORST FOOD POISONING OF MY LIFE, LITERALLY SENT ME TO THE HOSPITAL!!! it honestly makes me sad to write this review because I had been coming to this restaurant for years now and have been recommending it as one of the best AYCE sushi restaurants in Orange County to many of my loved ones, but I must now retract that statement. my friends and I had come to visit this restaurant a few days ago on 1/29/2026 around 8 pm, we ordered a selection of specialty roles and Nigiri, and had three rounds of sushi. everything tasted fine but wasn't AMAZING - whatever, i have just been to better sushi spots so i didn't think much of it. Staff was not rude, but they were also not attentive. However, not a huge deal for a thursday night dinner with the girls. The next day (Friday) I felt fine but oddly started to feel much more tired before going to bed. Then when I woke up on Saturday, I experienced the worst nausea and the RUNS I have ever endured in my life. I could not even hold down water in my stomach and ended up puking stomach acid several times throughout the day. around the afternoon I started to experience body aches, chills, and a very high fever of 102°. I kept trying to rest and wait it out, but my head was pounding to the point that I was hallucinating in and out of my sleep. No joke. I thought it may have been from something I ate on Friday, but then I contacted my friends that had attended this restaurant with me, and they were all feeling the exact same symptoms as I was. Mind you, we all live in different households and do not eat together often so we knew that it was from Sushi Damu. After reaching out to a few other people who had been to this restaurant on different occasions, they informed me that they have also experienced food poisoning from this restaurant. I am beyond disappointed that this establishment is literally handing out food poisoning. I should not have to pay $55 to feel like I am on the brink of death and to be sent to the hospital. Writing a review today because I genuinely love coming to this place. I'm an Orange County local and ill come to sushi damu over most spots for their service, attentiveness, and kindness. I come here when im having a day off and can relax. The ambience is pretty cute and casual so it's very calming to come here. The staff always has good energy & are ready to be there for their guests. Today, I was helped by Bri at my table and she was AMAZING, definitely deserves a raise . Last but not least, the manager, TJ, absolutely above and beyond. I observed him being very attentive and going past what he's required to do, making everyone feel at home. I am a regular customer of Sushi Damu, and I've always had a decent experience until today. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. On 3/22, I came in with my family of five (3 adults and 2 kids) around 8:00 PM and we chose the premium AYCE option. We were seated around that time, but no one came to take our order until about 8:10 PM. After placing our order, we waited over 30 minutes and only received a few appetizers: miso soup, one order of shrimp tempura (2 pieces), and one baked mussel (3 pieces). None of our sushi rolls had arrived. Concerned, I politely asked our server, Arel Ano, if she could check on our sushi rolls. Instead of responding professionally, she turned away with an attitude, as if we were bothering her. During the entire 30-minute wait, she never once checked on our table or asked if everything was okay. We had been patient and did not complain at all up to that point. What made things worse was her behavior afterward. She walked to the sushi bar and appeared to be talking about our table with another server. I made eye contact to signal that I noticed the issue, but she continued to ignore us and never came back to explain or apologize for the delay. Assuming the kitchen might be slow, we even ordered additional items (3 baked mussels and 2 shrimp tempura). Strangely, those additional items came out quickly while our original sushi order never arrived. This made me question whether our initial order was ever submitted. If it was forgotten, a simple apology would have been understandable--but instead, we were met with attitude. I then asked to speak with a supervisor. Bri came over, and I explained the situation: the long wait, the lack of service, and the unprofessional attitude from our server. While I was still explaining, the additional items we ordered later arrived, which further confirmed something was wrong with the original order process. Even after the complaint, Arel Ano never returned to our table, never apologized, and continued walking past us with the same negative attitude. At that point, we were too frustrated to continue the meal. We came to enjoy a premium dining experience, but instead left feeling upset. When I asked for the bill, Bri initially charged $171 and said the kids were not charged. I disagreed and requested to be charged only for the items that were actually served, since we never received most of our order. I strongly suggest that management review the security camera footage to clearly understand what happened and to properly evaluate this employee's behavior. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, especially as a loyal customer. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, improves staff professionalism, and ensures better service in the future. read more
