How does Sushi Dan not have 4 or more stars???? Simply the best Sushi for the money in all of Hollywood. Great lunch special which I used to get daily when I lived across the street. Friendly people who run the place and the waitresses are BEAUTIFUL. I've had everything on the menu many times. Get the specials. Octavio is my favorite chef. The specials on the board are amazing. Something for everyone and just awesome all around. Been eating there for six years. OBVIOUSLY LOVE IT! Not the cheapest but certainly not the most expensive but well worth the price of admission. Cheap on weekdays between 11 and 3. $10 gets you five pieces of sushi and a roll!! EDIT: I am amending my review and removing a star for one reason, service. I am not sure if the Sushi is still as good as it used to be or if my palate has gotten more refined for Sushi over the years but the lack of good service here has reached a point that I must remove a star. If I didn't have a decade of loving the place, it might even require more than that but it used to be a place where everyone knew me and now it's a place where even when they screw up, it takes me raising a ruckus to get anything done about it. Last time I went my meal was ruined because of the server making mistakes with our order both in what we wanted and how we wanted it and that's not what would make me give a bad review, I can handle mistakes. But our meal was definitely affected by it and we should have had something discounted but it didn't even cross their mind nor did we get an apology and since this was about the 20th time, I am amending my 5 star review and giving them a healthy 4 stars. This used to be my favorite Sushi joint and I had been known to eat there sometimes 3 times in a day but they are no longer that. EDIT 2: You know what, on second thought, I am bringing them down to 3 stars. I don't care if their sushi is delicious and they have a great lunch special. I was talking to my wife about it and they have literally ruined my meal because of their lack of desire (which seems to be embedded in the culture) to fix the problems that they caused. Once on delivery and two bad dining experiences. I am lowering them to 3 stars until I have at least 2-3 good dining or take out experiences in a row and then I will raise them back to 4. If it continues, I'll put them back to 5. Sushi Dan, I would start listening to your customers. 10 years ago, everyone said and I was one of them that this was the place to go, but it's not anymore and it's completely one the customer service as the food is still great (although frankly not as good as it used to be). DO NOT EAT HERE. I've been here 100x due to convenience for friends who live nearby. Every time we leave upset. If your fish is bad they will still serve you bad fish and tell you it's your fault for not liking it -per waitress. Secondly, they are extremely slow supplying the raw fish even when it's slow. They are lazy and will look at you and blatantly ignore you when they walk by. You'll wait 15 minutes for water. I asked the waitress for the rest of my food and waited and waited, I had to walk up to the sushi bar and ask for my food, they never put the order in. Been to Sushi Dan twice in the past 2 weeks and man, I love it! Grape S has been meaning to take me to his favourite Sushi spot for ages and we finally got to try it when we needed a late night grub (after a 4 hour nap Friday evening after work and only waking up at 11pm). Sushi Dan opens till midnight on Fridays but they only accept carryout after 11/11:30pm. We ordered: 1. Danny Roll (good but since it's fried, it wasn't as fresh once we got home) 2. Spicy Scallops Roll (yumz and great value) 3. Unagi Cucumber Roll (another great value) 4. Sunset Roll (this was just ok ... regret getting this especially since we ended up ordering too much food ... I've had much better Sunset Rolls elsewhere [I miss the original Butterfly Sushi in Chicago!]) 5. Salmon Nigiri (the Salmon was very fresh; though, pricing wise, it's a little high for Salmon Nigiri) Total came up to $40+ which isn't bad A week later, we again went to Sushi Dan but dined in this time and ordered the same things less the Sunset Roll and we were full! Danny Roll is much better fresh and everything else was super delicious. Total came up to about $30 before tax and tip which really isn't bad for GOOD Sushi. So initially I gave Sushi Dan 4 stars, and I realized I also gave Houston's 4 stars. The two are defintely not on the same level so I'm going to have to take it back and give it a... 3.5 (Houstons deserves the 4) --- Pretty much the place to go for some good rolls My boyfriend and I come here often.. mainly because its right by his place, but I honestly don't think it's that bad. I really love the hot night roll II and great white shark roll. We used to get this spicy tuna on crunchy rice dish (forget what its called) all the time, but we're sick of it now so we stopped ordering it. Yellowtail sashimi was pretty good too. That is about all we have tried.... oh I do recall that I did not enjoy their halibut whatever w/ asaparagus dish. My boyfriend has noticed though that he gets indigestion after he eats there, and I think someone else mentioned that too soooo.. yeah. Maybe a coincidence? Not sure. It was my boyfriends birthday this weekend and since he loves sushi we wanted to find a place to grab dinner. Based on the reviews, we chose Sushi Dan and ordered for pick up. Pick up was timely and they had everything we ordered. The seared tuna, salmon and octopus were great. Unfortunately, the avocado and cucumber rolls were neglected. The avocado they used was old and tasted horrible. The cucumber was mushy and had a bad taste so I couldn't eat those. Overall it isn't the worst place and i would recommend you try it based on the prices but I'll have to find a different place next time. read more

We tried to order take out over the phone. It seems that no one speaks English. When I got there to pick up my order, they tried to seat me after telling them several times that I ordered for pick up. It was so noisy and that made it even harder to communicate. Every time my girl told them her name for the order, they seemed really confused. It got to the point where she decided it would be best just to reorder. After what seemed like an eternity, they finally came out with two of the same orders. We took the fresher of the two. When we got home and it was not what we ordered.
