Some sushi places take pride in simplifying their food presentation, which maybe seems more harmonious. Other places seem to enjoy offering razzle-and-dazzle dishes. Sushi Dan seems more like the latter. My Crabtized plate came out looking like they just dumped stuff on top of other stuff, but that didn't bother me. It took a few minutes of wait time to finally get my food, I guess tempura just takes longer, but it was worth it. The taste was just perfect. Seems a little pricier than other sushi bars, but not by much. Plus they make up for it by serving larger portions. You will feel satisfied if you can even finish at all. I want to start by saying I don't usually eat fish or sushi, but i was pleasantly surprised at how good this was. I ordered the dinner combo which came with Miso soup, and 3 choices for the platter. Picking up an order for a Rebecca Q. Extremely long wait time. I even called 10 mins prior and they said the order was almost ready, be ready in 5. It has been 20 mins already and they haven't even started my order. Horrible time management. Horrible customer service. The staff are liars and it's not a good way to do business. If you haven't started the order, say that, then apologize if need be. Don't lead me in a direction to have me waste time picking up food on false bases, you said would be ready a long time ago. ** I've eaten at Sushi Dan's countless times, their philly roll is usually so good! I also order avocado rolls normally, but two days ago I ordered the Baked Lango Roll and that caused me the unfortunate food poisoning :( I actually threw up violently 6 times yesterday but today I feel fine. I've tried to reach out to Sushi Dan's for a refund or store credit so that my $35 order (delivery requires minimum $25 plus tax and $3 delivery, and tip the driver) doesn't go to waste... Let's hope Sushi Dan makes the loyal frequent customer's health and trust the highest priority.. Integrity is rare these days and I believe that Sushi Dan's is a great establishment, I do... Only the time will tell. I will maybe adjust my stars areview once Sushi Dan and I sort the issue out.. But it is trendy and stuff, but I don't see the massive appeal. The reason this place got 3-stars from me is because after the meal, when I was driving home, I had the worst indigestion I've ever had in my entire life. We didn't get service right away but after we placed our order, our sushi came rather quickly. I ordered the lunch special (which is the best deal) with the Crazy Danny roll and Tuna Sashimi. The sashimi was good, not great, but good. The Crazy Danny Roll was very good and was surprisingly filling! Overall, you get a big bang for your buck here (especially during the lunch hour) and a relatively cool/casual atmosphere. If you've got time on your hands and don't mind circling around a few minutes for parking, this could be a suitable spot. read more

Is it just me or does Sushi Dan have some of the crummiest service in LA? The sushi itself is pretty uneven. I have had great experiences there and I have had rolls fall apart as soon as I picked them up. Luck of the draw I suppose. It is usually pretty tasty, even if you have to roll it back together and shove it in your mouth. The service on the other hand stinks worse than old sushi. I have been forgotten so many times by the wait staff here that I'm starting to get a little self-conscious. The wait staff will forget the order and, when you remind them, show up less than a minute later with the complete order and no explanation. Either they have some lightning-fast procrastinating chefs or... ah, you get the picture. Great place for take out, lousy to eat in unless you dig lots of noise, crummy service, and a wall-o-graffiti (complete with head shots of people you've never heard of!). read more

After 28 years of eating sushi, this is the absolute WORST sushi place I have ever been to. The fish is precut and sits stacked on plates for who knows how many days. I ordered Toro and the fish looked like it was days old and tasted horrible. The fish is cut paper thin and has no taste what so ever. Anyone who thinks this is a good place to eat, the other reviewers, is an absolute idiot with no experience of what a good sushi place is. The quality of the fish is HORRIBLE. The service behind the sushi bar was mediocre at best. The only thing good was the service by the girl at the front desk, after that it's all down hill. This is my favorite sushi in the Hollywood area. I've actually taken almost every single first date I've been on here for the last 6-7 years, never fails to impress. Creative rolls, big portions, fresh fish, and a cozy little atmosphere all make for a great experience. They will try to rush you through if you order all at once, crowding your table with plates very rapidly, but take your time and let them do their thing. The hamachi citrus sashimi is one of my favorite dishes ever. The BSCR is the best I've ever had. The mango salmon roll is gorgeous. I can keep going...
