I haven't actually been to this place before, but my boyfriend always takes out from here and brings it back home for me to eat. This place is in the plaza located behind the clover leaf bakery. There's plenty of parking so don't worry. He got me the cucumber roll, which I like because their cucumbers are really big compared to other Japanese places. There are 2 sizes to their rolls, make sure you specify if you want the larger or smaller size. I prefer the larger ones of course. My boyfriend gets their spicy tuna roll & California roll. He says it tastes like any other place. The rolls are around $5. You must get their side salad! It's only like $2 or something. Their sauce is delicious and it goes well with the fresh lettuce they give you. The size is pretty small though, so my boyfriend always gets me 2 orders. The only reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is because when my boyfriend went the second time to get me a cucumber roll, they said that their cucumbers weren't fresh :( I appreciated the honesty I guess, but a restaurant should always be prepared with fresh ingredients! I came here 2 times this week!!!! I have not had salmon sashimi taste so good before. It was fresh! I ordered the 2 choice combo with $15.99 (great value!) 1. Teriyaki chicken (for my kids) so much chicken served 2. Salmon only sashimi Side option: salmon sushi and salmon only Comes with rice And iceberg lettuce salad - but the dressing is delicious For my husband I ordered the chicken bowl. Comes with teriyaki chicken and rice. Plenty of chicken comes with the bowl and plenty of white rice. Everything salmon. I don't like any other sashimi so it was perfect. I felt so spoiled. The pieces are thick not like other places that kind of rip you off. I asked for two ice waters while I wait and sat at a table with my toddler. The water came with no straw which was great! The cups were clean so I didn't ask for a straw. Water tasted good and fresh. I'm picky about my ice water. The service was great because the cashier suggested all salmon for the side order. Great suhi as usual and imo better than yama sushi as the people there were rude and are just riding of mr yama's success. I have no snobbery regarding sushi I just need it to be fresh. Customer service isn't 100% but I am again rating off of how it tastes and the hand roll sand the onigiri tastes great! Went here for a quick lunch with coworkers and found this place to be disgusting. Saw the cook taking things in and out of the restaurant without removing or changing his gloves. Well I complained and they apologized and offered a free item. Didn't make sense to me, why would I want more free junk that I'm not eating. Left hungry and grabbed and In and Out on the way back. This place makes me shake my head every time I try to give it a chance. When you work odd hours you don't have the luxury of eating a lunch at 12 or a dinner at 6 or so; when I stumble into this place trying to get something in my stomach I'm always disappointed. First of all their hours are definitely NOT 11-9pm because they always close from 3 until 5. Even if I'm late by a few minutes, they ALWAYS turn me away and point at their sign regarding their hours. They would rather stick to their schedule instead of accepting my business. Secondly they are obviously not Japanese. Heck, they're not even Korean. No, they're actually Taiwanese. Why do I bring this up? Because even when I do arrive during their "open" hours they greet me with a grumble and rolled eyes because I interrupted them watching dramas on their IPad! When the "sushi chef" had to pause his show he stumbled into the kitchen and sloppily put together my food. When he walked by me to the kitchen and back to his seat, he completely ignored me.. as if I was keeping him from what he really wanted to do. No smile, no greeting, NOTHING! When I finally get my food, is it even good? You'd think for a place with such strict policies that their grub would be mind-blowing in some regards. I definitely thinks NOT. The salmon is always fishy and chewy, their sushi rice is always unflavored and their pieces are always tiny. If you have time to make the drive, head to Yama Sushi west of Las Tunas in Alhambra. My in-laws told hubby and I that they found a really good sushi place that we all must try together. They said they've ate there before and it was really good. Whenever my in-laws say a restaurant is really good that's because.... #1 the price is cheap......#2 portions are big.......#3 price is cheap....oh wait! I think I already said price is cheap. I came here a couple of times, each time the wait is really long. There is only 1 chef so it takes forever. The shop is also really small so it's not the best place to stay at. I remember a time during summer when my summer school decided to order here for lunch, about 15-35 students ordering. They first said that the order would take a while, and my teacher said an hour or two hours delay is fine, however after finishing the order, they decided to decline the order. They said that the order order is " too big." It was unreasonable because a restaurant should be happy about big orders cause it is still money, and declining would be bad customer service especially since they are serving to a large group of locals. I saw fresh delivery come in on the day of. I ordered basic California roll and crunch roll. Now as much as I loved it, the crab quality wasn't as great as I other dine in sushi joints. This isn't regards to the freshness of the crab meat. It was a difference in the taste of the crab meat itself. If I was by myself on a budget I'd stop by. But in regards to sushi, I'd prefer to spend a little bit more for the best quality. Considering this place is really competitively priced I understand regarding quality.! Come here if you want to avoid the long lines or just come here to pick up the catering box for house parties. Here is the breakdown of my review: Place: It's a small location with few seatings. It's not like a typical sit-down restaurant because you can go up to the cash register to order. They have various options to choose from but I usually come here to do catering. In general, I do not see lines at all at this place so ordering should be quick and easy. Parking: Plenty of parking spaces since its located in a pretty big plaza so you do not have to struggle looking for spots. Food: The sushi is not that bad. Again, for the price you pay, this place is pretty solid. As a quick note, the freshness of the fish can be a hit or miss. i have been here 5 times and there was one time where I did not enjoy my food. From what I remembered, these our the items that I ordered: California Rolls - this one is ok. Nothing that jumps out on you. Funny, how places like this get found out, its almost always when you're looking for something else. Sushi in the Box is a small restaurant. Very newly opened. All in all, quite typical. At least, thats how I felt at first. I ordered spider rolls and was expecting the average roll. Until I ate it. and it was _warm_. Now, i eat sushi fairly often. and a spider roll is a staple. But this is the first, FIRST time, that i've ever had a warm spider roll. Which is why im giving this place a 3 1/2 instead of a probable 3 that they deserve on principle. Cheap sushi. Rolls are basically California Rolls with variety things put over and into them, so if you're a big fan of California Rolls this place is a good deal. Their Dragon Roll and Caterpillar Rolls both had the CA roll mix with a little bit of eel and/or tempura shrimp, not the typical type of rolls you get at other places. A weird combination that didn't taste too hot, but for the price I paid I wasn't too displeased. 1/2 a block off Las Tunas in a non-busy asian strip mall so parking isn't a prob. Came 7pm on a Sunday and there were 2 small families eating...but that filled up like a 1/3 of the entire place.....yah this place is small! Not too much selection off the menu but this place at least knows that its going for the budget minded sushi eater. They offer mainly sushi but have some bento box, soup, and rice bowl entrees. You can even order sushi platters for parties. Too bad they only had 1 chef rolling away. When I got there, she was putting together a 50-some piece platter. The service was kind of slow because of that, but she managed to fulfill about 4 rolls worth of orders before getting back to her platter. I waited about 15 minutes for my order. The cashier was very friendly. Don't be afraid to order in English or Mandarin because she can speak either or....the Cantonese patrons ordered in english so not sure if she is tri-lingual. They no longer have the buy 1 get 1 50% off deal but that didn't deter me from getting a Dragon and spicy tuna roll. With tax it came out to be around $15. They had a pretty sweet dinner combo special that offered rice, salad, soup, 4 cali roll pieces, a choice of a meet entree and green tea ice cream. But it has to be dine-in only. They have a 19" LCD playing in the corner but don't expect it to be playing some football game.....looks like its stuck on ABC so whatever is playing is what you get! They also have no bathroom to use so do #1 or 2 before you come to eat! The food: Dragon Roll: Crab meat, avacado, cucumber, and eel on top. Felt very mushy and probably made with too much rice. If you are just trying to fill up then this roll will do the trick. The eel saved the roll but it had nothing memorable about it. Spicy Tuna: Mushy in the mouth. The spicy sauce used to make it spicy wasn't your traditional orange colored japanese spicy mayo...it was something else because the tuna was straight red and it looked like a regular tuna roll to me until I tasted it. Because of that it didn't taste like a typical spicy tuna roll that I'm used to. Service was friendly but a little on the slow-ish side. Only reason I come here is for their 2 for $6 [or was it 2 for $5?] handrolls. The wife likes their salmon skin, I like their spicy tuna. We usually go with 2 each and are on our merry way. Everything else here is just meh at best, but we come here solely for the handrolls. They're moderately generous with how much fish they give you per handroll. It's pretty tasty, and for the price, it's pretty darned good. They can be pretty slow, so make sure you call ahead. There's always parking available in their lot as the lot is big due to it being in a stripmall/plaza, but the other businesses don't pile in tons of parking traffic. read more

YELP! You have failed me! I came here because it was close to my little cousins house and she wanted sushi. I hate to write bad reviews, but here it goes... I ordered the party platter for three and a dinner special. Thank god for the dinner special because I really did not enjoy the sushi at all. I noticed a lot of people order for pickup/togo. Highlights of this meal: - My chicken teriyaki that I smothered with sriracha was good, however, some of the parts were chewy and inedible I had to spit it out into a tissue. - The green tea ice cream that came with the dinner special was really good. They put some kind of jelly on top, which I thought was a unique touch. - Cheap. Total for 5 people was $40, including tax and tip. Lowlights of this meal: - Sushi (and that's saying a lot) - Service was really slow. I think there were only 3 workers in total. 1 chef, 1 server/waiter, 1 busboy/dishwasher? - Very small. For some quick togo sushi, this place'll satisfy the craving. Is it amazing? No. Does it work? Yes. The inside is kinda small and danky, and your sushi is made by Chinese people, butI guess for the price and wait, it's an okay trade-off. I'd stay away from the Onigiri Rice Balls tho.
