They actually have a pretty good selection on their menu that includes udon, tempura, teriyaki chicken and sesame Japanese meatball. With quite a selection it can be hard to choose but this is where their awesome combination plates come in. One can mix and match most of the items on the menu in their combo plates. The combo plates are served with miso soup, salad and steamed rice. 1 item is $6.95, 2 items is $10.95 and 3 items is $15.25. I got to try both the sesame chicken and tempura during my visit here. I love Sushi Island. This is my go-to spot for a quick, healthy, fresh tasty lunch. We're long-time takeout customers and have noticed drastic changes over the past several months after ownership changed. What's changed? 1) The prices have slowly increased a couple of times and the great value for the meal is gone. 2) Getting the order right. Under this new ownership, there is consistently a problem with the order or missing items. This was never an issue in the past and the attention to detail is now gone as well. 3) As of January 2025 (due to new plastic container laws) they no longer do miso soup to go. However, their site still states that's what you're paying for only to be told they don't do miso to go for takeout. I was told on our recent visit that they could do it for an extra $1. Instead, why not just update your site to state that or raise the combo item price yet again by $1 and give the people the complete meal they have been purchasing for years? This makes no sense and simply apologizing to your customers is not the answer. 4) The food is kind of the same, but we started to see inconsistencies in that department too. The teri chicken is often dry/overcooked. Overall - The old Sushi Island takeout experience is gone and only thing that remains is the name. This review is a based on a regular takeout customer. The restaurant itself still seems pretty busy. I even witnessed staff turning down phone orders while I was there because they were "too busy." Not sure that's what customers want to hear when they call and I hope this review helps address some areas of improvement. read more

During COVID, I've gained a deeper appreciation for local businesses and I'm glad we were able to check out Sushi Island. It's definitely a small shop; the interior is very simple and is not fancy at all. We got a platter for New Years and not only is it a great deal, you get a ton of sushi! We got the nigiri sushi combo E which comes with 36 pieces of nigiri and 3 rolls. The fish is fresh and we were able to swap out the surf clam for unagi for a small surcharge. They were pretty accommodating! The presentation is neatly crafted and the cuts of fish were thick. If you're wary of wasabi, they do stick a small piece of wasabi in between the fish and rice. I would not hesitate to come back and get more takeout sushi from here. read more

Affirdable sushi menu in a cozy restaurant. Ordered via call ahead of time to save the waiting time. We have no complains about their sushi rolls or the combo deals. In fact, my husband wants to make this a go-to place for American sushi rolls! The deep fried rice with tuna on top was interesting. The deep fried rice tasted kind of like rice crackers with the chewy rice inside. It was fun and somewhat addicting! The groud tuna we thought was lacking flavors. Softball crab roll was the best though that was not included in the combo menu. The cooked salmon is actually not sushi but fully cooked salmon. We thought it would be deep fried but we were wrong and I don't recommend it unless you don't like raw fish. Tempura was average. What surprised me was when I found a small string in the rice packed with tempura. I assume it was something they may have used when steaming rice. In any case, I am glad it was not eaten by kids. Obviously their table at the restaurant was blocked due to covid but I am glad a small business like this place is serving good deals in the pandemic. Awesome food and great service! I had the sesame chicken, salmon avocado roll and the tempura with shrimp. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and they give you a good sized portion. The salmon was tender and soft and went well with the avocado. The tempura was perfectly cooked, not greasy and very tasty. I pretty much take out so I can't comment on the in-restaurant service but when I pick up, my order is always packaged well. A very low-key place, but with great quality. The fish is generously portioned and everything was just so fresh. The rolls were a hearty size. We had been driving through the area and needed to grab some food, and this place popped up on Yelp. I think my favorite was the Hawaiian Roll. I also really enjoyed the baked salmon, of which I usually don't really like, but this was closer to a sear, and with the blackened spices on top, it was pretty darn tasty. For $16, you can choose a 3 combo. I got the eel roll, sushi avocado roll, and grilled mackerel. If you get at least one nonroll, you get a bowl of white rice. From what I could tell, all combos come with a small side salad and miso soup. Rolls have 8 pieces. They're high quality, delicately rolled with the right proportion of fish/avocado to rice. The rice is fluffy and slightly acidic due to sushi vinegar as it should be. Perfectly rolled with the inside perfectly centered. Maybe I'm hyping it up bc I was hungry but oh myyy, was it good. The mackerel was grilled with the skin on. Tbh, the fried sesame chicken was better than the mackerel (tried a piece from my friends whom I was eating with) but the mackerel was still good! A shrimp tempura roll (8 pieces) was also ordered to supplement my combo. The other 8 piece rolls range from $5-$6 and are priced well. The inside of the restaurant is small yet cozy. Complimentary green tea was served with the meal (free refills). Only slight complaint was that the food took a while to be served. 2 combos and roll took about 35 mins which was fine since I had time to converse with the people I was eating with.
