Update: Sushi Chef Jae has a place in my heart when it comes to his sushi creations. from perfect miso soup to the original Super Rainbow to impeccable Tempura, and the fascinating Flaming Roll to highlight a few of our favorites! Jae & his crew are super welcoming, happy to see us & it's mutual. We know we will be delighted with the extensive array of authentic & unbeatable offerings. The food is thoughtfully prepared using only the freshest ingredients. Jae knows what he's doing, making grateful customers for life! Each visit brings smiles & moans of delight. Thank you, Jae! very satisfying

Friendly staff, great rolls, average price. Their Super Paradise was very tasty as was the Philadelphia roll & the spicy tuna roll. The staff were very attentive and got us in and out quickly. The place is nice, dark, and quiet. I'd call it "cozy". I'd come back again to this neighborhood restaurant.

The few times I've dined here, it's always been good service and delicious sushi. Most recently I ordered a roll and the chef's selection and the hamachi was buttery soft (not pictured). I also bring my kids as one enjoys vegetarian "sushi" and the other finds something to eat like noodles. Would recommend this sushi joint tucked away in a nondescript shopping center.

Really good experience here. Small, simple little sushi spot with exceptional service. All of the servers were incredibly friendly and attentive. Good was good & fast and the presentation was nice. I would skip the beef teriyaki, was super tough meat to chew.

Sushi Jae deserves to be way busier than they are! We visited on a Tuesday evening and were the only customers inside during our meal. The chefs were busy nearly the whole time however, apparently preparing online orders. Still, the service was friendly and rolls came out quickly. Our server mentioned that they are much busier on weekends but I was still surprised with how empty they were at dinner time on a weekday. It must be because the outside appearance makes it seem like a hole in the wall despite that they're able to accommodate a decent amount of diners inside. The fish was fresh and every roll was well-prepared. As far as sushi goes, the pricing was about what you can expect in San Jose, not a great value but not too bad either. I can definitely recommend this place to satisfy a sushi craving.

Was craving sushi on a Friday evening and stumbled across Sushi Jae! We started with their agedashi tofu, which was solid. We got Mango Crazy, Super Paradise, and Spider rolls. Their rolls seem to be smaller than rolls at other restaurants. The Mango Crazy and Super Paradise rolls were alright, nothing too special about them. The Spider roll was yummy; I loved the soft-shell crab. Service was good and attentive.

I forgot to take more photos.. we additionally ordered mixed tempura and sushi/sashimi combo. 3.5 stars** The service here is top tier and always made sure you had everything you need. I used to come here a lot during my college days back in 2016-2018. I don't live around the area, but the food was always good here. As most reviews noted- the portion is definitely smaller here compared to other sushi places. I definitely agree! However, the fish here is super fresh and my all time favorite is the lion king roll here. We also wanted to add additional a la carte toro, chu toro or uni... waitress said they were all out of it... :(

Ordered online for takeout, and the food wasn't ready when we got there because it was fairly busy in the restaurant. The staff was very kind and communicative, and offered tea and water while we waited. Took a little under 10 minutes for the order to come out. The sushi wasn't the best I've ever had, but certainly not the worst! The raw fish was decent, and the specialty rolls are unique, especially the Super Rainbow Roll. Portions are a little small, but we were satisfied. I didn't get a picture of the udon, but we got that too and it was piping hot and delicious! I would definitely come back to try more, and am impressed by the customer service.

I've been here twice so far with my family. Last time we came here was a few days ago for a birthday celebration where we ordered: Spider Roll (5/5) Rainbow Roll 2x (5/5) Super Rainbow Roll (5/5) --The deep fried scallops were sweet and tender, and the crunch contrasted well with the roll. Unanimously the best roll of the night. Super Paradise Roll (5/5) -- Mom ordered this, but subbed the spicy tuna for regular tuna and sauce on the side. It definitely needs the sauce or the roll is too dry. Orange Blossom Roll (5/5) -- Didn't try, but my brother enjoyed it. Fire Crunch Roll (4/5) --Tasted strongly of wasabi, so every other ingredient is overpowered by this. The sweet potato crunch also didn't really add anything to the roll. Unagi Don (3.5/5) --Similar to any other place that offers unagi don. Healthy portion, but sauce was too sweet. Chicken Teriyaki Don (3.5/5) --^^ Chirashi (5/5) Sashimi Combo (5/5) Staff were friendly, patient, and accommodating. Go for the sushi, nothing else. Only downside is that the portions are on the smaller side.

The food was super tasty and great! The staff's service was amazing! The staff were super attentive and friendly and were able to accommodate our party of 6 very well. The restaurant is super well lit and is the perfect place to have a family dinner or hang out with a group of friends. Special shout out to Sang Woo who gave us amazing service!

Forgot to take photos of the Sake Don, Chirashi and Sashimi plates, only remembered taking photo of the first roll order that came out. The roll was just ok. The rice was a bit too soft, more like rice cake. Considering the sauces that were on that roll, it was fairly bland. The fish slices were thick and fresh enough to not have strong fishy aftertaste even though we had quite a lot of them. The chirashi bowl and sashimi plate came with the same exact fish selection: salmon, tuna, yellowtail, albacore/white tuna (I think), mackerel, and escolar. Yes, this place is one of those that has escolar. It didn't register in my mind at first until I ate a couple of pieces, I thought it was pretty good, but then I remembered what I read about that fish ... We quickly finish up, pay, and drove home with minutes to spare. Price to quality is decent compared to other sushi place, I have had better sushi at similar price point but it is not bad at all. Payment and tipping practice still with paper bill that was left on the table for us to fill.

The salmon miso fusion nigiri completely blew us away. Everyone at the table was awestruck after the first bite. And the uni deserves a special mention. We've had uni nigiri at plenty of other sushi restaurants where it's been just okay, but the uni here was an absolute showstopper: fresh, creamy, sweet, and without any unpleasant aftertaste. Spicy tuna roll 2. Spider roll 3. Rainbow roll 4. Tiger roll 5. Miso soup 6. Seaweed salad We also ordered Asahi beer and hot sake. The food was very good and we gave a solid 10/10 (the ratio of rice to filling was well balanced), the hot sake was smooth, and the beer was very cold. Everything was priced well compared to other sushi restaurants. Most rolls we ordered ranged from $6.95 to $13. Staff were very nice and attentive. The restaurant was clean and quiet. Two things I want to highlight:: (1) the restaurant closes at 9pm, and stops serving new clients at 8:45pm. The service was really good though. Food came out fast both times after ordering. The gentleman that was helping our table was very kind and attentive. He kept coming by to check on how everything was going. The food itself was pretty good, but there is a lack of consistency from last year compared to this year. I did not want to make a fuss about it at the restaurant, but I was quite disappointed with the quality of the fish. It wasn't as fresh this time. The restaurant has a cozy vibe. There's 30 minute parking available at the front of the restaurant. It is all street parking. The first time I was here we ordered: -Dragon Roll -Beef Roll -Gyoza -Chicken Karaage -Fried Calamari -Salmon Maki -Salmon Avocado -Double Double Salmon -49ers Roll Second Time Order: -Alaska Roll -Salmon Maki -Rock n Roll -Chicken Karaage appetizer -Fried Calamari appetizer -Golden California Roll -Dragon Roll -Salmon Avocado The Alaska roll according to the menu has spicy cooked salmon, cucumber, topped with unagi sauce and tobiko. The unagi sauce seemed to be more at the bottom than drizzled at top, but the waitress was kind enough to ask me if I wanted some of the unagi sauce on the side, which was very nice. It made a big difference in terms of flavor. Eating the Alaska roll without the extra unagi sauce, I was only able to taste the Sriracha. By the way, it did not mention on the menu that the Alaska roll was going to have both spicy mayo and Sriracha on it. I'm not a fan of Sriracha. The spicy mayo I can do, but the Sriracha ruined it for me. The dragon roll was ordered last year and this year. Please see the photos for how inconsistent the roll is. There were more ingredients the first time we ordered this roll. There was more avocado last year. The gyozas were pretty good. They came out hot and crispy, but not dry. They had a good amount of flavor. The beef roll had asparagus and beef in it. It's a pretty good combination. The chicken Karaage was good both times, but I did notice it was juicier when we ordered it last year. The salmon maki was much better last year than when I ordered it this year. I am not sure if a different person was making the rolls, but the rolls didn't fall apart last time like it did today. Most importantly though, the salmon was fresher the first time I had it. They definitely changed something other than the appearance. It was also pretty upsetting that the pieces of salmon maki were uneven. Only 2 of the pieces were tall, whereas last year, I was given all 6 pieces that had the same height. It makes it look like the sushi I got today was less. I had all the photos of the sushi from last year on my old phone, so I wasn't able to show the waiter or the owner the comparison. The rock n roll is a good portion, but there was barely any bbq eel in it. It was literally just a little tiny piece in the corner of the sushi. I do appreciate that the avocado is fresh and creamy in the rolls that we ordered. 49ers roll - is one of my go to rolls for something light and refreshing. The lemon slices add a really nice touch. I love that the lemon is thinly sliced and the rind was actually included. It adds a bit of tartness to the flavor, which I find satisfying. The salmon was very fresh. I only ordered it last year and not this time since my husband and I were at a prior event that had food, but we were still craving sushi lol. The fried calamari was good, but this time that we got it, the portion was significantly smaller. I'm not sure why. It has good texture and crispiness. There was also a piece of calamari that ended up in our chicken Karaage, which we didn't know what it was at first, but later found out it was calamari lol. No complaints about the Double Salmon Roll. If you love raw salmon, more raw salmon, avocado and tobiko, that one is a good option. The Golden California roll was okay. We felt like it had too much batter though. Salmon Avocado roll was a lot better the first time we were here as well. I don't know if their raw fish supplier changed or something, but the salmon definitely didn't taste the same. I know it's been a year and some may think how do I remember? I'm a sushi fanatic/connoisseur. When I eat sushi and it's good, I have a little happy dance that I do. First time I was here I did the happy dance and that's why I wanted to come back here again. The prices are very affordable here and the service is great. However, I was pretty disappointed today (8/8/2026) with the presentation of the rolls and the freshness of the salmon or lack of freshness I should say. I would love to come back again, but I just don't want to be disappointed. I'm really hoping to have a better food experience here in the future.
