Came here a month ago with my boyfriend for dinner on a weekday. This was a disappointing place. Food was mediocre at best, but not bad. They did mess up on the California poki bowl by forgetting the avocado. That was the only difference between the two poki bowls on the menu. I know this is a family-owned restaurant, but they need to do better on their service. What killed the night for us was that they were selective on who they wanted to serve. The staff never came by the table to check on us. We had to flag down the two servers when we needed to. However, they were attentive to the vegetarian couple at the table next to us by checking up on them, giving them a full teapot for tea at the beginning and occasionally refilling their water. We attempted to flag the servers to get at least one refill for water and a refill on my tea since they did not give me a teapot. They only came around when it was time to pay the bill. Definitely not coming back after this mess, especially since it wasn't even busy that night. read more

This place used to be good. This time was pathetic. Looks like the economy has gotten to them. Edamame was half size and tasteless and old. Orange blossom roll used to have a whole slice of salmon on outside all around each roll. Now its a tiny sliver just on the tip. Shrimp tempura was 3 small tasteless pieces.The fish is still fresh. But v scanty. Even the ginger tasted like it had been sitting for a long time. I know I aint going back! read more

We've been here a couple of times and our second visit was a lot better than the first. This was used to be an Italian restaurant I believe so knowing that, it's kind of funny that you can tell they haven't updated the look much. The chairs were beat up on our first visit, but I can't remember if they'd updated them last time we came. On our latest visit we ordered two rolls to share, a mango roll and the something special and both were delicious - perfect for a sushi craving. It's never been too crowded on our visits, and there's always plenty of parking as the location is within a large plaza. My one hope is that they clean up the look a bit, since it's a large space with a lot of potential and great service. read more

I'm afraid to post this review because this restaurant is such a hidden gem. I feel like I should keep it a secret for selfish reasons. We eat here regularly with my family and I've started bringing my coworkers for lunch. The family that owns and runs the restaurant are so wonderful. Jae has a great rapport with all the customers and the food is always top quality. He even made my kids a little panda bear using an orange-big hit with them! I love this place. For a startup business, it is wonderful and has definitely made it's mark on the Cambrian community. It has great udon and rolls and for a great price. The service is friendly and professional and for a delicious filling lunch, my wallet didn't take too much of a hit. Some people say it's "definitely frozen fish" in some cases but I know that the owner does his best to provide the freshest ingredients. 10/10 food 10/10 service 10/10 experience Would recommend to anybody read more

This review is overdue. I came here a couple weeks ago with my family, they had just opened the week before. My first impression of the place was home-y, very comfortable and nice staff to greet as you walk in. My parents both ordered bento boxes, they loved it. I ordered the R&R, the Dragon Roll, and the Mad Dragon, everything was delicious. The sushi had a melt in your mouth kind of feeling, a great balance between the sushi rice and everything inside. Did I mention that the presentation of sushi was beautifully laid out. My sister got the Flaming sushi ( it was literally in flames) and also a Dragon roll. Family was happy and so were our tummies. People need to keep in mind this place just opened, they are still low on staff,take a chill pill, relax and enjoy your company while you wait for the food, it will be all worth the wait!! :) Will definitely be back soon with friends. read more

Sushi is whatever. I have definitely had better sushi and better priced sushi than Sushi Jae. However, I am not here to diss their sushi, I'm here to rave about their udon. Some days when the weather is cold and wet, I like to get something soupy. Sometimes you don't want pho, but you want maybe an udon! Then this place is the place to go! Udon is about $11 (depending on what type you get) and you get a nice big pot of it (literally)! Be careful though, it is really hot when it comes out. I have brunt my tongue too many times to count, because I couldn't wait and wanted to hurry up and eat my noodles. Worth it though :) haha. Just order it and you will not regret it. read more

This is a new place, still breaking in, and the sushi bar isn't open yet--so if you can't handle the startup phase of a small, family restaurant, please wait awhile before you come. If, however, you'd like to try a nice little neighborhood spot with friendly owners and good food, come on in. We stopped in on a Friday night and shared a few rolls with miso soup. The portions were generous, attractively presented, and delicious. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Sushi Jae isn't the biggest or splashiest sushi place in town, but frankly I'm not looking for the huge lines and big egos--that "scene" doesn't interest me. I love a quiet place with good food, where I can get to know the people and feel welcome. I'm looking forward to watching Sushi Jae settle in and find its groove; especially if they cultivate good take-out service (hint, hint!), I think they'll be a regular stop for us when sushi is on our minds! read more

I'll be ordering something cooked next time... I came for lunch on a Friday afternoon. I really wanted to like this place. The wait staff was super friendly and helpful. The chef even went out of his way to accommodate the picky eater in my group. All of this is great. But when the sashimi arrived, I could smell it from across the table. This fish was not fresh. OMG really we got 1 piece of tempura with it.. really that was worth the extra cost to add it. The food was good, except they don't have combo bento for dinner, so I had to tac on extra stuff which jumped our bill up. Loved this place! The service is excellent and the food is delicious. I had the vegetable tempura and a chicken teriyaki bento box. The amount of batter on the tempura was just right, and the cook on it was perfect. The chicken in the chicken teriyaki was great quality (all white meat, and it looked like they had cut off all of the unnecessary pieces of fat and other unappetizing pieces). It also came with a good amount of rice. The California roll was your classic roll, and the ginger that came accompanying it was really fresh. The side salad was also really crispy and had just the right amount of dressing. As mentioned earlier, the service was excellent. We were immediately greeted and seated as soon as we entered. The waiters were attentive, efficient, and extremely helpful. We initially ordered vegetable tempura as an appetizer, two orders of chicken teriyaki bento boxes, and a specialty roll, and our waiter recommended to add an order of tempura to the bento box to save us some money. We did just that, and the meal turned out great! We will definitely be back here. Bonus - complimentary miso soup (comes out really hot and tastes great) and salad with an order of an entree. read more

That said, I did have a few comments on the food: Price for the shrimp tempura appetizer: you would think $6.95 for 3 shrimp would mean huge shrimp....think smaller than your average finding. Could also use more salt...but still crunchy after being in a take out container for at least 5-10 minutes! Negihama roll: great quality on the hamachi. 10/10 would order again. Boyfriend had the baked scallop roll and loved it. Food was ready promptly as promised, but I would like to see greater variety on the speciality rolls.
