If you're hungry, add a roll for only $3. I'm not the type to like rolls, but their salmon avocado roll is yummy.. I love that they're not stingy whatsoever on how much fish they give you. This place has pretty good sushi. Sushi Kara @ 6pm on a Sunday night had a full house. It isn't too big of a restaurant, so it fills up fast. Employees were welcoming & attentive. My date & I sat at the bar, and our appetizers came within ten minutes. Our main entrees came another ten minutes later. I thought we were going to wait a while, but we didn't at all. Sushi was made in front of us at the bar. It was fresh and delicious. I ordered Udon soup w/ veggie tempura and Gyoza. My boyfriend had the Snow Roll, Baked Mussels, & The Baked Scallop roll. It's not the nicest or hippest sushi place but the food makes up for it! I am no sashimi aficionado but I am cognizant of good fresh fish when I devour it! Here at Sushi Kara the fish is always fresh, well at least it tastes that way. The fish is like butter, melts in my mouth with every bite. Today I went in for lunch and had the 5 piece special which comes with a small ginger salad and small miso soup. What a steal at $8! As much as I love fancy special rolls, it is not in my budget to order everything that I want. Granted the sushi is very fair priced, I cannot fathom spending over $20 on a solo lunch. A roll that I enjoy that is cheap, delicious, and gets the job done is the spicy yellowtail roll. Drool. No glitz and glam, just good fresh fish. read more

Delicious! Fresh! Good prices! Just a blind stop on the way home. Always wary about trying new sushi joints, but we drove by due to the great yelp reviews. Located in a shopping plaza, the restaurant was crowded so we gave it a try. What a pleasant surprise. The sushi was as good as my favorites at home, and even a bit less expensive. We had miso soup, garlic albacore roll, baked scallop cut roll, and California roll. It was hit, hit, hit, hit! People were coming in one after the other for pick up orders and I can see why. Totally felt like we were normal again. Thank you for the delicious food. I am super skeptical when it comes to ordering sushi To-Go, but the craving was too great and we had to do it. And let me say, I'm so glad we did. The care and thoughtfulness was the same as if we were there. My daughter loves calamari and while I didn't know how the tempura would travel, it was still crispy and delicious at home, and oh that sauce. The seaweed salad is always delicious but nothing beats the sashimi here. The food is always so fresh and you can tell that the same care is put into every dish as if you were dining in yourself. Can't wait to come in and enjoy dining again, but until then I'm glad there is a safe option here. As for COVID protocols they are not open for in store dining. Every person was wearing a mask. They are all super friendly and helpful and have done excellent work for precautions during this pandemic. Went here last night and the service was awful!! The servers took so long to take our order they finally came and the quality of the food has gone down hill since this owner took over.. I asked the door to be shut for it was cold and he advised me to wait until the people came in they were sitting... they sat the party and still did not close the door my husband had to get up and close it never had a scallop roll which was scallops on top of a cucumber roll. will not be back read more

FOOD- 10/10. 10-piece nigiri roll was so good and more than enough food. It comes with miso soup and house salad appetizers. Miso I would've preferred it to be hotter in temperature, and house salad was good but I prefer ginger dressing over sweet carrot dressing. Of the different kind of sashimi on the nigiri (salmon, tuna, seared albacore), the white fish on the nigiri is the best and silkiest. I do wish they had more variety for the nigiri rather than 5 sashimi doubled. I recommend the 8-piece nigiri roll with special roll add-on, since the 10-piece is too much food. Special roll add-on with the nigiri or chirashi is cheaper than getting the special rolls separately. For the special rolls, we tried the baked scallop, avocado, and albacore delight roll, which were all delicious. I have to say they all tasted unique yet not too heavy, even though they sound pretty standard. Rolls are great shared family style. DRINKS- Tea costs like $2.50 but they do refills. I recommend sharing :-). SERVICE- Variable. One waitress was super friendly and stepped outside to help take our pictures, but my parents were miffed by another waitress were passed items down and asked us to pass items back to her, rather than going around and passing it out herself. read more

First let's start with the positive: Sushi is delicious, ingredients are fresh, menu prices are decent, plenty of variety and I enjoy the mix of Mexican and Japanese fusion they have with the Mexican roll adding chile Serrano and fried tortillas. Negative: Our server was very polite, although we ordered 3 appetizers and she "accidentally" forgot to put the order in after we saw our sushi plates coming out. Upon my most recent order the manager John decided to charge me extra for the Togo container, completely ignoring all the business we have given them for years. When i called to offer them the opportunity to fix the issue, John, the manager did no such thing and held to his pricing. My dad and I drove around long beach and went to a couple sushi places that were rated the highest. This place was rated at a 4.5. This place had extremely fresh fish. We got tuna, salmon, fresh water eel, and tried the cucumber special. There prices were half as much as the first place we went and the quantity and quality was twice as good. The only reason why I would give this place 4 stars is the staff and atmosphere. The first place we rated a 3.5 because there workers were energetic and funny and the owner walked around and made sure everyone was happy. The atmosphere was incredible but the sushi was too expensive and not as good. So if you can get past the "ok" service and the boringness of the place them This is for you. We just wanted GOOD sushi and we got it here! I would recommend trying there fresh fish and the cucumber special. The special was Refreshing and had 3 different types of fish plus more. Good sushi, rolls are nice, toro tasted very fresh and melted in my mouth both visits. Scottish salmon didn't taste as fresh the second time I went but was very good the first visit. Rice paper salmon roll is also very good. My son likes the Curry Katsu plate and the ring pops they give to kids for dessert. read more

This review is for take out on chicken noodle soup aka chicken udon. And before you judge why I got udon from a sushi place- the bf was pretty sick and wanted noodle soup. I wasn't really expecting anything fancy from the soup, but I was extremely shocked when I got home. Yes, there was chicken and there were udon noodles, but this was not your standard udon soup. The broth was yellow and the veggies included carrots, onions, and zuchinni- i.e. this was AMERICAN chicken soup with udon noodles added- totally not expected from an ASIAN restaurant. I felt even more upset that I paid $10 for this c***. I will admit the taste wasn't bad but COME ON!! This is a Japanese restaurant. In the future, I will try to sushi here and update this post. I found out they're actually Koreans and not Japanese which explains the softer stickier rice in my dragon roll. My sashimi was fresh and yummy. The seaweed salad was huge. Miso soup, green tea, seaweed salad, a salmon roe nigiri, fatty yellow tail and salmon sashimi and a dragon roll for $55.00. Decent value and good food. Man oh man I love this place. The prices are ridiculously reasonable for what you get. I usually get a 8 piece sushi combo ($18), which comes with 8 pieces nigiri AND a roll. It is probably enough for two light eaters, but I love the fish here so much it is easy for me to take all of it down in one delicious sitting. I like to sit at the bar and watch the sushi chef do his thing: forming the rice ball bases as if he is part of an immaculately choreographed dance, carefully placing the big slabs of fresh fish on top of the sticky rice, finishing his masterpieces with just the right smattering of sauces and green onion. The fish is fresh and buttery, melt-in-your-mouth heaven. The rolls have generous slabs of fish in them, too, as well as fat, smooth chucks of avocado. All this, washed down with a big Sapporo: unbeatable. On top of the wonderful food, all the people who work here are so friendly and attentive. I love how whenever a customer leaves the entire staff who is around (all the sushi chefs, all the waitresses) say "thank you!" and wave. It is so cute. I love the food here & I come here to dine in often but I ordered a few rolls tonight over the phone and notified the person taking my order that I have an avocado allergy & to not include avocados in my rolls. My boyfriend got a roll with avocados & they placed our rolls in the same container so now i am unable to eat it because theyre touching. I called to explain but unfortunately they dont seem to get that because it is touching, I cannot eat it although it has no avocado in the roll itself. I did get credit for a roll but its still pretty frustrating that it happened after I notified them of an allergy. read more

DOG INSIDE RESTAURANT?? We've been coming here for 12 years. My husband was a patron for 5+ years before it became Sushi Kara. It's always been delicious. However, while I am an animal lover, I don't agree with dogs being allowed INSIDE of a restaurant. Outdoor patios? Yes. Inside, in a "stroller", close to the table? NO. We asked the waiter if this was customary, knowing Song (the owner) and he said Song sold the restaurant about a year ago and it was under new management. He said he saw the dog and was pretty sure the manager did too, but nothing was said to the customers. It was not a service dog. I went online to check the city ordinance and animals are not allowed inside of restaurants. I don't know why this was allowed, but it definitely made the dining experience a bit uncomfortable and it felt unsanitary. We will be going to Song's location in Belmont from now on, where health standards are higher. read more

I asked the waiter if it was seared tuna and he confirmed that it was. There's absolutely no way it was seared tuna. It was brown, coated with pepper, flat like a pancake, tough to chew, and tasted horrible. The Fatty Yellowtail was really good though. Solid sushi place. My wife and I came here after seeing the massive line outside I Love Sushi. Apparently Sushi Kara is under new ownership and has new chefs. We got tempura, a dynamite roll, a spicy tuna roll, salmon, and albacore. All in all, the fish was fresh and the rolls were interesting, so we were very satisfied with the meal. This is my new favorite local sushi restaurant. We came here on valentines night. We ordered the the 10 piece sushi combo $17 + added a special roll (spicy tataki roll) for an additional $8. If you order the special rolls by itself, it's $10-15 so you save a couple of dollars. The sushi was amazing. The fish was just the right temperature. I don't taste the iciness of the fish which I do with a lot of sushi places. FYI. The best sushi should be served at body temperature. Also ordered the baked green mussels. Was pretty small but very flavorful. $5 comes with 5 mussels (fyi) Service was ok because the waiter didn't come to refill our water. But the sushi was above my expectations and I left a happy camper. Plus I didn't have to wait more than 15 min on valentines day night and on a Friday night at 8pm! Awesome. Been here on many occasions and usually get these items: 9 or 20 piece sashimi sampler ---Their sashimi is always fresh tasting and come in bigger slices compared to other sushi places. 6 oysters on the half shell ---hit and miss with the oysters. Sometimes can taste fresh and other times very fishy and smelly. Spicy yellow tail habachi collar ---this dish comes either as regular or spicy. If you order spicy, it comes drenched in a sauce they called "spicy miso", which is just Devine, but is a zero on the spicy scale.
