Name is very off putting, but if you like a strong mushroom flavor, this is it. We have always gotten this as an appetizer every visit. Oh My Garlic. I like garlic, especially the fried crispy ones. It's such a good flavor combination with fish. The only downfall to this roll is that it is sauce heavy. I'm not a fan of heavy sauces rolls or deep fried rolls. If you're like me, ask for light drizzle. Spider Roll. A classic! I'm basic and this is one of my favs. Not too heavy on the rice. Hawaiian Roll. Awesome sushi place in Long Beach. I ordered the lemon roll based on the the recommendations and I must say, it lived up to the hype. Made fresh and it was on fire literally. Good balance between rice, fish, sauces, and overall flavor with hint of lemon. We also ordered the chicken teriyaki which was pretty good as well. Great portion sizes too. POOR HYGIENE!!! I used to eat here all the time (the food tastes good), but after what I experienced today I will stop. I ordered food to go, and as I am waiting for the order to be bagged up, I see the employee drop the container of salad on the floor. He then picks it up and puts it in the bag with the other food. When I objected to this, he seemed confused as to why I would find this to be a problem. Finally he offered me a new salad, but still could not see that he had contaminated the entire bag of food. It's like taking every employee's shoes and putting it in my bag of food. What made this worse, is I believe the offending employee is either the owner or the manager. Everything we ordered was pretty awesome! Loved the presentation of all the rolls, especially the Snow Special Roll. My main caveat was that my Rainbow Roll was sweet and not what I was expecting. My friend ordered the Dynamite Roll and the California Tempura Roll - would definitely order the Dynamite Roll again. Went on a Tuesday afternoon and there were barely any patrons. Having guests over so I went out of the way to get take-out from here because of the great reviews. They didn't offer any big platters/sushi boats so I ordered the chef's special sushi (20 pieces) and chef's special sashimi (20 pieces) with 2 special rolls and some appetizers. Everything was just ok. I know chefs take great pride in creating special platters and I was expecting something amazing for my guests but was quite underwhelmed. The chef's "special" was just your usual cuts of fish, nothing out of the ordinary. Some tuna, salmon, albacore and white fish. The white fish sushi was really fishy and we all stayed away from that. My toddler had the shrimp tempura, his usual dish. I have never seen a shrimp tempura so skinny and frail; I felt bad for the poor thing. Batter was not light and crisp like we are used lto. Overall, 3 stars because we were all fed and it wasn't terrible. It was packaged very nicely for transporting and nothing tipped over. This was my first visit to sushi Kara. Of course I found it on Yelp and saw the number of stars. I did not read the reviews because I wanted to go on my own opinion. Jamall, our server was pleasant, and attentive to our needs. We ordered items off the menu, appetizers, tempura, both shrimp, and vegetable and sushi combo plate. We ordered drinks, a green tea iced tea and Perrier sparkling water . When the food started to arrive they were timely and presentation was impeccable. As the food continued to be delivered a man, I assume was the owner, looked at us and went back inside and within seconds he and the server brought out an extra table to accommodate all the dishes we had ordered. To me anticipating my needs is one of the most important things about a restaurant. The taste of each dish was delicious, it seemed like the Nigiri sushi had double portions on top of each piece. The quality of the ingredients were exceptional. When we finished and they brought the bill I was shocked how low the price was. For a feast of top-notch sushi it was a steal! I should have just ordered two small ones. I called them to let them know and the owner (lady) was combative saying that's how they've always served large soups But this isn't true. I've had Sushi Kara a total of 4 times so far and I must say it's my favorite sushi spot so far. I always get the same thing because they are so good (the baked lobster roll and the mango roll). What I like about this place is that the sushi always tastes really fresh. The baked lobster roll is filling, has great flavor, and has a good amount of lobster included. I was being adventurous by ordering the mango roll because mango isn't something I would typically think pairs well with the type I sushi I like, however I was pleasantly surprised. The mango doesn't overpower the sushi at all and isn't too swell. Both rolls are very well balance and definitely recommend trying those. They have a wide variety of other rolls to choose from as well. Give this place a try! read more

My Mom and I recently had Sushi Kara delivered and it was great. We've had some bad luck finding a good sushi place but I think this will be our go-to now. We both had Tiger Rolls and they actually had a Calamari Roll so I was happy about that. It was made just the way we like it as well. It is a bit pricey but we felt it was worth it. Tables sat empty for 20+ minutes before a party was seated. We waited over 30 minutes for our food. Entire experience for us was over two hours. Overall: I won't be back. Sushi Kara, another Korean-operated sushi restaurant, but one of the better ones in the area. It is located off the 405 on Bellflower. They have great lunch specials that are reasonably priced. The chirashi, for example, is less than $20, which is kind of hard to find these days. The service here is good. I have not had a bad experience, and food comes out pretty fast. Food is pretty good for the price. The house salad dressing is one of the best ones I have had. My coworker and I like that it is close to our office, so we often lunch here. read more
