Review #1,081 Posted on 7.8.26 We came here for late lunch on Thursday the 2nd. What I like about Ken's is they stay open during the early afternoon time slot, so for those of us not on structured work lunch time slots, we can stop in here for a bite to eat during the post "normal" lunch times. The customer service is really good here too, quick & friendly staff. The menu is deep, tons of options. Food is good, my sushi roll had a tad of zing, mango, tuna, deep fried shrimp tempura too. They give you edamame too when you first come in, a nice touch where other spots charge you if you ask for it. Highly recommend this place.

It's been awhile since i had a chance to come in. Super Lion King - 4 * Spicy Lover - 5 * Mix Tempura - 5* Everything was still as good as ever except no free fries anymore. Cheesecake was hard from being in an ice cold storage. Free scoop of ice cream was the sweetest. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was no air where we were sitting unfortunately. I was sweating which is not ideal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff is always very nice and attentive.

Value proposition here. Sushi is tad above average; the tempura is pretty good; saba fish is tasty and not too moist or too dry... all comes in a lunch bento box with many selections of items. Avoid Calamari... too chewy for me. Free green beans appetizer & ice cream dessert...yay! It's too busy for the limited staffs to serve a semi-full room. But they are friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seat yourself when you arrive. Pretty casual atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great place for value bentos.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The wallpaper of this place is so freaking cute. It depicts japanese fish markets. It was really fun to look at.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This was a perfect place for a date with easy feeling atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only thing that would be better not to have is a huge screen TV, but what can you do.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was shareable and just so delicious. I would go there again. We were not disappointed with any of the things we got. Maguro nigiri Spicy tuna 49er roll Hamachi Kama Black angels

I have gotten takeout from here on a couple of times ! They have reasonably priced sushi rolls and tons of vegan options! And that was soo great. The taste is always good , I tried a few of the rolls Big daddy, Mango on fire, Saishoku roll and L&V roll. The online ordering system is very simple and sends a notification that the order is accepted. The rolls hit the right notes in terms of sweet and spicy. I want to explore more of their vegan options - so definetly will be back ! For Takeaway containers, one small feedback the rolls are right against the wasabi, which gets on to some of the pieces , which may be higher than the amount I am looking for - makes it hard to takeoff - It could help if the wasabi was in a smaller quantity or in a packet or a small piece of butter paper.

Stopped by here for a quick weekday lunch and the food was so good & such a great price! We ordered a lunch bento box w/ teriyaki beef & tempura and a chirashi bowl. They also gave us free edamame! The teriyaki beef was tender and had the perfect amount of sauce and the tempura was light and crispy. The chirashi bowl had extremely thick cuts of fish & was a great selection! It tasted extremely fresh as well. The portion sizes here are huge, we barely finished half of our meal! At the end, they gave us free green tea ice cream! Great & quick meal, I'll definitely be back

    Portions are huge!!!

Very, very good! I'm not a sushi lover, so I can only speak for everything else. Everything was outstanding! Definitely get the teriyaki sauce and the Katsu sauce with your meal. The lunch prices are awesome too! Service was a little slow, but we weren't in a rush. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If it's too warm towards the back have them flip on the A/C.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I like getting their lunch bento box. For the price and amount it's a deal. I typically get their chicken katsu or pork katsu with mix tempura and sashimi. Their sashimi is a mix experience. I've had it where they give a plump size pieces and others are smaller. Is the quality great, no, but you get what you pay for. Sushi roll is okay. I would say it's a good lunch spot for the amount of food you get. Service was good and attentive.

We randomly walked into this place , hungry, and it was a very solid choice after all. I wish I took more pictures but we ate every bite as the food was coming out. The fish was fresh, my only complaint is that the fish portions were not very generous. I appreciate them not making up for it with adding more rice. We ordered a few rolls besides the 7 piece sushi special. We had more avocado rolls because they were fantastic, unagi roll, and salmon skin roll. All were very good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were not a lot of people when we went. Service was kind and fast. It's a fairly quiet place[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. i will be returning here!

I liked their Sushi ken Bento Lunch Box 3 item Spicy Tuna hand roll. They also provided complimentary ice-cream. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was great and service was excellent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not too expensive. Previously, I tried ramen which was also tasty. So satisfying.

Located in a shopping plaza, parking is a bit tight during the holidays. it is located right next to Ike's. .on yelp it says you can make a reservation, but when we came, we were seated right away. when sat down, they served us some fries and edamame. which were good and delicious. their menu had plenty of options to choose from and was a big portion in size as well. the bento box looked really good! would i come again? yes, but i wish they had some eel options on their menu

Came on a Saturday afternoon and pleasantly surprised by their extensive menu. Also really appreciate that lunch bentos are also available on weekends. They start you off with a small bowl of french fries with ketchup and edamame beans? The fries were cold, but nice they offer you a little appetizer. We all went with bentos and I chose the saba shioyaki, CA roll, and sashimi. It also comes with rice, miso soup and salad. The prices here are incredibly reasonable for the amount of food you get. We also got an order of their seared salmon belly. The food came out pretty quickly as it wasn't busy at that time. My saba unfortunately had a ton of bones, so I was trying to pick through the fish as best as possible. The salmon sashimi was okay, but was very surprised how fresh and tasty the tuna was. The california roll had an off putting smell to me. The salmon belly pieces were very large but I have had better. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience for the price.

I am pleasantly surprised. My husband and I have been struggling to find a go to sushi restaurant since we moved and a quick Yelp search led us to Sushi Ken. We were familiar with the area and Sushi Ken seemed to always have a decent amount of people inside so we were excited. First off, they give you edamame and French fries right off the bat and that's odd, but it's also welcomed. We tried different rolls, their udon, and their omakase and all things tasted really good. The presentation of the items was also pleasing. Their staff was attentive and service was quick. At the end of your meals, they also give you a free scoop of ice cream so that was a nice surprise.

For brunch, everything we ordered was excellent. The standout was the seared scallops uni, rich, delicate, and easily my favorite dish of the meal. The kathi style steak n egg, sashimi platter, 24 short rib, and Japanese wagyu tataki were all beautifully prepared and full of flavor. On the drinks side, the smoky hibiscus and yakultza were both refreshing and well balanced. They also offer omakase for dinner, and it's genuinely some of the best in the Bay. I don't usually repeat omakase spots, but Soho's was good enough to bring me back a second time! the quality and care behind each course really stands out. Whether you come for brunch or dinner, Soho delivers every time. Highly recommend for a date, a celebration, or just treating yourself.

It honestly pains me to write this because we have been coming to SOHO Modern Japanese for years…read more This has been one of our regular local restaurants. We have celebrated birthdays and special occasions here, brought family and friends, had company lunches, come for brunch, and spent a significant amount of money here over the years. Three years ago, I left a review praising both the food and service. I gave several dishes 5/5, including the Loco Moco, and specifically called the service excellent. Unfortunately, the restaurant we have experienced over our last three visits is becoming unrecognizable from the one I reviewed three years ago. The decline has been gradual. Service started slipping first, but the food remained good enough that we continued coming back. Over the last three visits, however, the food has declined significantly as well. FOOD FROM OUR LAST THREE VISITS Mentaiko Benedict The fish tasted like it had been frozen and defrosted the same day. It was overcooked, dry, and nearly flavorless. There was none of the quality or execution I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. It was extremely disappointing. Loco Moco This one bothered me because I gave this exact dish a 5/5 in my previous review. What happened? The Loco Moco I remembered had a properly seasoned patty and enough flavor that I specifically praised it for not relying entirely on the gravy. On our recent visit, the gravy was bland and flavorless, and the patty tasted like frozen, mass-produced meatloaf. It was nothing like the dish I remembered. Pastrami Reuben Benedict, August 23 This was the dish from today's visit and probably the biggest "what happened here?" moment. The pastrami tasted like basic packaged deli meat, something I could have picked up at Costco, with an overcooked poached egg sitting on top. A Benedict lives or dies on the egg, and when the egg is overcooked on top of mediocre meat, there isn't much left to save the dish. It was genuinely bad. SERVICE, AUGUST 23 Unfortunately, today's food was only half the problem. We came in with a party of 18, and our server, Yadi, was consistently rude, impatient, and disrespectful in the way she communicated with our table. We understand that 18 people is a large party. We weren't expecting perfection, and this wasn't about someone simply being busy. It was the attitude. She repeatedly snapped at people while taking orders. When someone requested one minor adjustment, she visibly reacted with an annoyed "ugh" and stormed away from the table. Dirty plates were also allowed to pile up to the point where I seriously considered getting up and bussing our table myself. What made the experience worse was management's response. We brought our concerns to the manager on duty, a gentleman wearing glasses whose name I unfortunately didn't get. Instead of acknowledging what happened, apologizing, or even seeming concerned about our experience, his response was essentially to defend his employee. We were not asking for free food. We weren't asking for a discount. We weren't asking for anything to be removed from the bill. We simply expected management to care that longtime customers were telling them something had gone seriously wrong. There is a difference between supporting your employees and refusing to listen to your customers. A manager can stand behind their staff while still acknowledging poor service and trying to understand why a table is upset. Instead, we felt completely dismissed. That is particularly disappointing because we aren't first-time customers looking for something to complain about. We live locally and have supported this restaurant for years. We have brought family, friends, coworkers, and company guests here. We have celebrated important occasions here and continued returning even when we began noticing the decline. Restaurants have bad nights. Servers have bad days. Kitchens make mistakes. I would never write a review like this over one bad meal. But three disappointing visits in a row is no longer a bad night. It's a pattern. Three years ago, I wrote that the service here was 5/5 and described dishes like the Loco Moco as nearly perfect. I genuinely wish I could still say that.

As soon as you walk in, you're surrounded by the pleasant aroma of smoke and grilled meats cooking over the open grill. The interior is thoughtfully decorated, with street art covering the walls that makes the place feel like you've been transported somewhere far from where you actually are--especially considering it's located in a simple shopping center in Fremont. It actually reminded me of eating skewers in Asakusa, which is a nice feeling to get from a local spot. It's a fun place to grab some drinks, order a bunch of skewers, and just enjoy the atmosphere. Servers are kind and welcoming. It can get a bit pricey if you lose track of how many skewers you've ordered. They're tasty and easy to keep ordering, though, so it's a great place to splurge a little and treat yourself. Just not an everyday kind of place, at least not for me.
