What I like about Ken's is they stay open during the early afternoon time slot, so for those of us not on structured work lunch time slots, we can stop in here for a bite to eat during the post "normal" lunch times. The customer service is really good here too, quick & friendly staff. The menu is deep, tons of options. Food is good, my sushi roll had a tad of zing, mango, tuna, deep fried shrimp tempura too. They give you edamame too when you first come in, a nice touch where other spots charge you if you ask for it. Highly recommend this place.
It's been awhile since i had a chance to come in. Super Lion King - 4 * Spicy Lover - 5 * Mix Tempura - 5* Everything was still as good as ever except no free fries anymore. Cheesecake was hard from being in an ice cold storage. Free scoop of ice cream was the sweetest. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was no air where we were sitting unfortunately. I was sweating which is not ideal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff is always very nice and attentive.
Value proposition here. Sushi is tad above average; the tempura is pretty good; saba fish is tasty and not too moist or too dry... all comes in a lunch bento box with many selections of items. Avoid Calamari... too chewy for me. Free green beans appetizer & ice cream dessert...yay! It's too busy for the limited staffs to serve a semi-full room. But they are friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The wallpaper of this place is so freaking cute. It depicts japanese fish markets. It was really fun to look at.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This was a perfect place for a date with easy feeling atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only thing that would be better not to have is a huge screen TV, but what can you do.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was shareable and just so delicious. I have gotten takeout from here on a couple of times ! They have reasonably priced sushi rolls and tons of vegan options! And that was soo great. The taste is always good , I tried a few of the rolls Big daddy, Mango on fire, Saishoku roll and L&V roll. The online ordering system is very simple and sends a notification that the order is accepted. The rolls hit the right notes in terms of sweet and spicy. I want to explore more of their vegan options - so definetly will be back ! For Takeaway containers, one small feedback the rolls are right against the wasabi, which gets on to some of the pieces , which may be higher than the amount I am looking for - makes it hard to takeoff - It could help if the wasabi was in a smaller quantity or in a packet or a small piece of butter paper.
Stopped by here for a quick weekday lunch and the food was so good & such a great price! We ordered a lunch bento box w/ teriyaki beef & tempura and a chirashi bowl. They also gave us free edamame! The teriyaki beef was tender and had the perfect amount of sauce and the tempura was light and crispy. The chirashi bowl had extremely thick cuts of fish & was a great selection! It tasted extremely fresh as well. The portion sizes here are huge, we barely finished half of our meal! At the end, they gave us free green tea ice cream! Great & quick meal, I'll definitely be back
Very, very good! I'm not a sushi lover, so I can only speak for everything else. Everything was outstanding! Definitely get the teriyaki sauce and the Katsu sauce with your meal. The lunch prices are awesome too! Service was a little slow, but we weren't in a rush. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If it's too warm towards the back have them flip on the A/C.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
I like getting their lunch bento box. For the price and amount it's a deal. I typically get their chicken katsu or pork katsu with mix tempura and sashimi. Their sashimi is a mix experience. I've had it where they give a plump size pieces and others are smaller. Is the quality great, no, but you get what you pay for. Sushi roll is okay. I would say it's a good lunch spot for the amount of food you get. Service was good and attentive.
We randomly walked into this place , hungry, and it was a very solid choice after all. I wish I took more pictures but we ate every bite as the food was coming out. The fish was fresh, my only complaint is that the fish portions were not very generous. I appreciate them not making up for it with adding more rice. We ordered a few rolls besides the 7 piece sushi special. We had more avocado rolls because they were fantastic, unagi roll, and salmon skin roll. All were very good. I liked their Sushi ken Bento Lunch Box 3 item Spicy Tuna hand roll. They also provided complimentary ice-cream. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was great and service was excellent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not too expensive. Previously, I tried ramen which was also tasty. So satisfying.
Located in a shopping plaza, parking is a bit tight during the holidays. it is located right next to Ike's. .on yelp it says you can make a reservation, but when we came, we were seated right away. when sat down, they served us some fries and edamame. which were good and delicious. their menu had plenty of options to choose from and was a big portion in size as well. the bento box looked really good! would i come again? yes, but i wish they had some eel options on their menu
Came on a Saturday afternoon and pleasantly surprised by their extensive menu. Also really appreciate that lunch bentos are also available on weekends. They start you off with a small bowl of french fries with ketchup and edamame beans? The fries were cold, but nice they offer you a little appetizer. We all went with bentos and I chose the saba shioyaki, CA roll, and sashimi. It also comes with rice, miso soup and salad. The prices here are incredibly reasonable for the amount of food you get. We also got an order of their seared salmon belly. The food came out pretty quickly as it wasn't busy at that time. My saba unfortunately had a ton of bones, so I was trying to pick through the fish as best as possible. The salmon sashimi was okay, but was very surprised how fresh and tasty the tuna was. The california roll had an off putting smell to me. The salmon belly pieces were very large but I have had better. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience for the price.
I am pleasantly surprised. My husband and I have been struggling to find a go to sushi restaurant since we moved and a quick Yelp search led us to Sushi Ken. We were familiar with the area and Sushi Ken seemed to always have a decent amount of people inside so we were excited. First off, they give you edamame and French fries right off the bat and that's odd, but it's also welcomed. We tried different rolls, their udon, and their omakase and all things tasted really good. The presentation of the items was also pleasing. Their staff was attentive and service was quick. At the end of your meals, they also give you a free scoop of ice cream so that was a nice surprise.

Latest dine-in visit to Sushi Ken was just as good as our previous ones! The previous visit was to-go and the food was still good! This is probably our 4th or 5th dine-in visit. Went to have lunch with the wife, new son along with my sister. We got there around 12p on a Saturday and thankfully only a few people were there! Thankfully because we didn't have to wait for a table! The floor is slippery, not necessarily wet, so be careful when walking around. The restaurant had medium noise level. Lots of conversations, but not so overbearing that it was loud. We did not have to yell at each other when talking at our four top. I like the edamame and fries appetizers as we perused the menu. If you don't like ketchup, the fries as is is not for you. The fries are not hot and I am not there for these apps, but still ok. We ordered an omakase, aburi salmon belly nigiri, Rocket Queen Roll (no cream cheese) tells maki and sake maki (no photos of these, ate too fast). This place is so solid. We can always rely on the consistency here! The prices are affordable. 10/10 would come back! read more

Just went for the first time and didn't know what to expect but the food was soooo good. I was a bit thrown off by the loud machine in the back and water on the floor. The art is really nice in there too. I like the aesthetic. The serving trays and presentation of the food was beautiful as well. Gyoza was undercooked. Fish didn't taste too fresh. Workers rude. Bad service. Great spot in Fremont for sushi, especially if you're vegetarian. I tried the Secret Love roll and the Spicy Veggie Tofu roll, and both were excellent. The flavors were well balanced, fresh, and the rolls were made really nicely -- not overloaded with rice like some places do. The vegetable tempura was also very good: light, crispy, and not greasy. You can tell they fry it properly so the vegetables stay tender inside. What made the experience even better was the small gesture at the end -- they give complimentary ice cream, which is a nice surprise and a great way to finish the meal. Overall, great food, good vegetarian options, and thoughtful service. Definitely worth visiting if you're in Fremont and craving sushi. read more

We ordered sushi from this restaurant to go on the week of Christmas and it was super busy. Despite ordering online and picking it up, it took about an hour for our order to be ready. No one at fault though, it was understandable as it was a holiday week. The restaurant was super considerate and updated us asap about our order. So I really appreciated that! This was my first time having their sushi and it was all pretty good and tasty. The rolls were fresh. My favorite was the assorted sashimi bowl. It was a good amount of assorted sashimi. Everything was fresh and tender. The price of this bowl was def worth it. Safe to say, I'll be coming again for this bowl! read more

I had a craving for bento box and it was satisfied. The Silver Roll we shared was good and well put together. However, there are reasons why I only give this place three stars: 1. I felt my husband and I were a little rushed to order. There is a lot to look at on the menu and a big selection of sushi rolls to read through. 2. The presentations of our boxes were somewhat sloppy. The lettuce was roughly chopped and my rice was not nicely formed. 3. While I had finished my box, my husband was still eating and we were already served the check. It's like, can he finish first? The restaurant was not busy during this time. I found that rude. read more
Amazing and 10/10! I cannot wait to come and dine in person! We ordered these from a delivery service and the fish quality, quantity, and presentation was way beyond my expectations. Every single piece of fish was fresh and had such great texture. Typically, we go to Mioki or Amami if we're craving sushi. However, Sushi Ken has definitely earned a spot on my favorites. I think the photos really speak for themselves. Price point wise, it's very well priced for what we received. It was such a great eating experience, I'm very much looking forward to going in person!! read more
This sushi spot is sooo good! Love how right from the start, they give you edamame and fries even before ordering! And the sushi.. so good!! Tried several different kinds, as well as the kalbi and ramen.. also really good! The service was nice and consistent. One of the gentleman there (guessing he might be the owner) has really high energy and seems like he genuinely loves working there which is great! Ambiance of the place is cute! Has a very comfortable environment. I'd also say it's probably on the smaller side. So it's good to get there earlier because it definitely got packed! read more

We used to go to Miki (at this location) when we moved to Fremont over ten years ago. It was a great place with good options and value, but over time it went down hill a bit. A couple years ago, I noticed that Miki was no longer there, and in its place is Sushi Ken, so wanted to try. So far, I've been here four or five times, but all for lunch. I love their lunch bento box options, which I think is a great value for the quality. I haven't tried many options, but I love the saba shioyaki, it's always great. Between that and the large cuts of the sashimi and nigiri, I always get too full and need someone to help finish. I tried a ramen in this most recent visit, but probably won't get it again, it's not their strong suit. As for ambiance, I guess it's a little warmer than that of Miki that used to be there and what felt more like a sports bar than it does now. I should come back and give it a try for dinner as well. But overall, the food quality and value for their lunch options have been excellent. read more

Came for a late Sunday lunch. Got seated in no time. Table is clean. Deco is ok. Didn't try restroom. Water, complimentary edamame and fries came out quick. Very good menu with plenty of options. We tried many raw fish rolls, sliver roll, Romeo Juliet, sushiken, rocket queen, and flying beer. First three came out quickly but the last two came really late. All are in good portion. Quality is a hit or miss. Got complimentary strawberry icecream at the end. For some reason, we don't feel satisfied for the quality . If we have a chance next time, we will try the nigiri and sashimi chirashi don bowls options. Recommended for family dining for all options provided and reasonably priced. read more
Arrived a bit after the lunch rush at 1:15pm on Sunday but they had several tables with customers still and we managed to get an open booth to sit at. We received French fries and edamame as free starters. Already a great start with free fries and Taylor Swift playing on the speakers. It was hot out so no AC but they had a giant fan blowing our way. Service was quick and no fuss from the waiter who took our order. I ordered the chirashi deluxe don and my fiancée got the chicken katsu set. Katsu was huge and perfect crispy thin batter. The miso soup that came with our set was surprisingly a sweeter broth than other restaurants so I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it a lot. Salad was also good and the lettuce was fresh. Chirashi deluxe don was huge! I was getting full just looking at it. Everything was so fresh and delicious and they used kizami wasabi. I should have withheld from snacking on too much fries because I got full halfway through but I had to keep going cause it was that good. I appreciate that it came with some seaweed so I made a few handrolls with the uni and ikura. The sushi rice underneath was plentiful and nicely seasoned. $36 is so worth it for this deluxe don. Overall, I would definitely come back here to order this again if I'm in the Fremont area. read more

A Fantastic local Japanese restaurant! Everyone from the servers to the sushi chefs are so warm and welcoming. It feels so heartwarming to be greeted so enthusiastically each time we come in and are thanked sincerely when we leave! And I haven't even started on the food! After you are seated, you are immediately welcomed by two small complimentary bowls of food: fries and edamame. It's a surprise to be greeted with a bowl of fries drizzled with ketchup at a Japanese restaurant, but it's fun and tasty! It also sets the mood for your dining experience. The menu offers a great variety of Japanese bento boxes, bowls, inventive rolls, fresh sashimi, and sushi. Service is quick and efficient while the food is delicious and plentiful. You get a wonderful meal at a fair price, which is difficult to find these days. You also receive a complimentary scoop of ice cream for dessert. My parents visiting from out of town marveled at the freshness and size of the sashimi meal my dad selected. Hands down an excellent place for Japanese staples! read more

Came in on a weekday night and got seated immediately. Service was great and fast! They give complimentary edamame and dessert. We ordered a chicken katsu donburi and a teriyaki beef bento box with tempura. Both meals came with miso soup. Food came out fast and was so yummy! I have no complaints. Pretty popular spot, not bad for me on the weeknights but too busy for me on the weekends. It is in a very busy strip mall, lots of eateries and small businesses, so they all have to compete for parking. I also found that the staff here is so task oriented that there are little if any warmth, like zero smiles, greetings, thank you-s, etc...Other sushi places are more socially cordial. Just an observation after 3 visits. They hand out decent freebies here, which I think explains why this place can get busy. Upon sitting you'll get a small bowl of room temp edamame which is somewhat normal. BUT you will also get this small bowl of room temp skinny french fries already doused with ketchup. Now that is not from the norm for this genre of restos. But ya know what, 90% of peeps like Mc Donald's style of fries and this is real similar, except here I never seem to get it warm. So after my 2nd visit, I just tell them to skip this part for me, why waste it. Give it to some other freebie lovin' schmuck. Oh they'll also give you a small scoop of ice cream after your meal. One time they asked and another time they just automatically brought it. It's just regular econo ice cream. Nice gesture tho. 2 Item Lunch Bento ($13/4.5*) So you have to come earlier in the day for this. I chose Grilled Mackerel and Sashimi. And I love that combo so much and it is getting harder to find it these days, but this place delivered. And they executed both components quite decently. And for that price, you just gotta give them props. Oyako Don ($18/2.5*) Don't think I've ever tried one, but one chilly evening I thought this might be quite warming. Sure it did come hot but it was very mid, like something an ordinary person could make at home. Like strips of chicken thigh meat was lightly cooked in a soy/dashi mix as nothing was sticky or clingy. The rice was kinda sticky and wet, I think from some scattered sautéed cabbage for the vegetable component. And the menu said egg but I could barely detect one as it was more on the bottom of the rice versus on top. Just weird and unsatisfying really. Maybe the katsu version is better. NegiHama Roll ($7/3.5*) Nice petit roll, rolled tight. Decent amount of hamachi in strips but detected little to no green onion. It's in the name so I just kinda expect it being there. Deluxe Chirashi ($37/4*) Elevated chirashi bowl with the addition of scallops, uni and amaebi, along with some standard fishes. I liked most of this bowl, the rice was seasoned and appropriately sticky but not mushy. The tuna and hamachi were protocol, if not above average. Their tuna is actually very high quality, that I may just get a Tekka Don next time. The salmon was a very fatty belly cut that was slightly torched to bring out the fatty contents. Cut a bit too big/thick tho as you had to take bites and put it back into the bowl multiple times. Ideally you want to just eat a slice in one bite so you don't have to put a biten piece back. But suburban sushi places always cut fish super thick. The Scallops and Uni were also quite good. The tamago omelet was actually executed nicely, fluffy and a tad sweet. The only miss for me was the amaebi as it did not seem as fresh as it should have been. Just had a 'wilder' taste to it, that I had to muscle it down. I didn't get sick or queasy after so no real harm. So not sure if I wanna join the bustle here. Their pricing is pretty good especially for the area, just gotta pick my times here that's all. Starting to get an idea on what they do well and not too well. Learning curve almost complete. read more
Ordered because I wanted a cozy bowl of ramen but also kind of wanted sushi and saw some decent deals on Uber Eats. The ramen was pretty decent. Godzilla roll was good, I liked that there was a unique addition of deep fried jalapeños which is pretty yummy! Gyoza was pretty good and handrolls were okay My husband really liked the tonkatsu - it was perfectly crispy! The tonkatsu sauce was also very yummy. read more

So yummy! Seated right away when we walked in and given water and some edamame. Employees are so nice, service was great. Food portions are perfect size, and flavorful. One roll wasn't tight enough so it was hard to eat, but the flavorf was all there! Also got some ice cream at the end. Yum! Will be back. read more

Seriously impressed! The price is great for the generous amount of food you get. Everything was delicious, which is why I was here 2x this week! The best part? They bring a small ice cream at the end of your meal. Such a nice touch! Highly recommend this spot. Great value, great food, and a sweet surprise! read more

The food was good and worth the price. I would say it's a convenient sushi restaurant. The service was quick and super accommodating. The ambiance was spacious and had lots of room for customers to eat privately or have a large party. An order also comes with free fries and edamame!! read more

This was definitely a hard review for me since the staff here is very friendly. The food, unfortunately, was not very good. The miso soup was too salty, the sushi (Lion King) was meh, and the short ribs (Galbi) was just ok. My wife's katsu curry was also just ok. The ambiance inside was nice but the shopping center this restaurant is in was so chaotic it makes us not want to give this place another try. (I know this out of their control) read more

I love sushi ken! The service is super fast and attentive (I mainly go around lunch time). For appetizers you get complimentary fries with ketchup as well as edamame. I love their Bento box combos! This was my first time trying the calamari which was delicious, they gave a good portion and the pieces are good sizes. I have also tried the teriyaki salmon which is super good and the chicken teriyaki (my fav). The mix tempura is super crunchy and has a good variety! The california roll is great as well and I love that it comes with 6 pieces instead of 4! This was the lunch bento which came with a great price for all of this food! And to top it off they give you complimentary ice cream at the end! The restaurant itself is so cute I have yet to see it at night time all lit up. read more

Every year, our family has a sushi celebration. We've been going to our spot since before my husband + I were married. The kids grew up there, one waiter would even stop by our table and feed my son with chopsticks! Last year, our favorite place closed down...so we were on the hunt for a new sushi spot for our annual celebration. The day was coming and we chose Sushi Ken. By the high reviews and pics of inside, we hoped it fit what we were looking for. As we sat down and were immediately given french fries (we were starving btw), we looked at each other and got excited! Each of us ordered about 3-4 items, and our server looked at us like "forreal!?" Instead of trying to memorize, he took out his phone to write everything down! He made it funny and we were put at ease. Everything came out in good time and with each bite our family got more + more pleased. We kept checking in with each other throughout the meal, and knew we had found our new spot! It was clean, service was wonderful, food was SLAMMIN. They even gave us free ice cream at the end! And best of all- we ordered even more than what we would get at our old spot, and paid about the same! So everything is reasonably priced. We'll def be coming back!! read more
Found another hidden gem so I have to share! I tried their 10pcs nigiri set and the sashimi were all pleasantly fresh. Some were glazed in this yuzu soy sauce while others had real wasabi on it. The sushi rice was on the mushier side but overall it was great value for the price point. We also tried their chirashi don that came with miso soup and a side of salad. It was also very generous in portion. They even served us complimentary edamame and green tea ice cream at the start and end of the meal. Decent sushi option in the East Bay imo! read more

More like 3.5. Decent sushi spot with a very large menu for good prices. I really like that they have options for people with dietary restrictions, including rice free rolls and quite a few vegan and vegetarian choices. The portions are large, but lack some of the authentic Japanese quality I was craving. Our agedashi came with huge squares of fried tofu, but little flavor and no benito flakes - the flakes are the best part. Service is attentive and excellent during a busy lunch hour. I don't think my tea was ever less than half empty. We each received a complimentary small scoop of vanilla ice cream at the end of our meal. read more
Didn't have the best takeout experience but the food was pretty good! We were left on hold for about 2-3 minutes when ordering over the phone, and upon arrival the workers had trouble ringing up the bill/identifying my order. I also didn't receive a receipt. Moving on to the food, my mom and I tried two rolls, a dinner entree, and an edameme appetizer. The green forest roll had fresh and delicious raw fish wrapped in cucumber. The cucumber skin was a bit hard to chew at some parts but otherwise a cool concept & refreshing roll. The godzilla roll was delicious and I especially loved the fried jalapeños at the top that gave a nice kick. Both the Galbi BBQ and edamame were good but comparable to most other spots. Didn't dine in so can't say too much about the ambiance, but it looked to me like a great casual spot for sushi. I'd come back to dine-in but probably skip out on ordering takeout next time. read more
