Delicious and clean. My favorite was the spicy scallop roll. Ordered a few things close to 9pm and my order was ready within 10 minutes. Amazing. So when you need that quick eats after the dinner rush this is a good spot. You can get a decent lux sushi meal here for $30. Next time I would love to try their omakase. Their yellow tail roll and tuna hand roll and miso soup were all straight forward as well. This seems like a solid reliable spot. read more

The fish/neta quality is good, but they are way too aggressive with the toppings. Between the yuzu, wasabi, yuzu pepper, and other toppings, you can barely taste the fish (except for the fatty toro, which definitely stood out). The uni toast and a piece with gold foil felt like an "Instagram-era" gimmick that didn't add much value. The appetizers and desserts, however, were standouts. Our server asked for additional orders while I was still mid-bite. After I gestured that I'd need a moment, she never returned. For a $100 to $125 per person omakase, there are better, less crowded places if you prefer delicate pieces. read more

Sushi Lin UWS is one of my favorite omakase experiences on the Upper West Side. Every piece was thoughtful and beautifully prepared, but the standout for me was the toro topped with uni and caviar -- pure melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The richness of the toro with the briny sweetness of the uni and the pop of caviar was just unreal. The service was excellent from start to finish -- attentive without being overbearing -- and the chef was incredibly friendly and engaging. Coincidentally, I had him as a chef at a previous restaurant he worked at, so it was such a pleasant surprise to see him here. His consistency and skill really shine through. read more

Sushi Lin UWS was great for a nice meal in a clean, well-lit space. The hand rolls were tasty, I had a spicy tuna that was solid. Not the biggest hand roll, so expect smaller portions. As far as starters, my seaweed salad tasted fresh and lightly seasoned instead of drenched in dressing. The space itself was very pleasant, though not a lot of searing is available. Some stools at the sushi bar, then maybe half a dozen tables for 2 or 4, along the opposite wall. I could see reservations being a must during busier times. All in all a good spot in this quieter part of UWS! read more

This beautiful boutique restaurant was amazing and for omakase, fairly reasonable. Each sushi was just the right bite size and delish! Starting with a good bowl of miso soup always sets the tone for me and they didn't disappoint. Every bite was like a circus in my mouth! Sake was served in these beautiful artisan cups - made the experience very special. Service was great - and they customized my dinner to eliminate what I don't like. read more

This is the best sushi. Sit at the sushi bar and get the full omakase. The chefs are so kind and make the most amazing nigiri. They season the fish with little accompaniments. Like herbs and whatnot. Best sushi I have ever had and I've eaten a lot of sushi, even in Tokyo. I even sent my parents here one of the last times they were in town. SO and I recently had dinner at this cozy UWS establishment. It is well lit and clean inside with both counter and table seating available. We had the sushi & sashimi omakase along with a bottle of Dassai 45, which is an affordable smooth and slightly sweet sake. The standouts were the uni, foie gras shrimp and mushroom truffle tuna sushi. We topped it off with a matcha tiramisu and whiskey cake, both of which were tasty. Do the Full Omakase experience! You won't regret it (except $125 pp lighter in your wallet). The sushi experience may not be authentically Japanese, but the sushi chefs here are very creative in using the fresh ingredients in new & interesting flavor combinations. As you watch them work, their precise techniques are punctuated by the roar of butane torches. I just wish we had sat at the sushi bar to watch the show. Since we had a group of 5, we sat at the tables along the windows. The meal starts simply with a bowl of miso soup then ramps up with a red snapper yuzu appetizer, a triple flight of fresh oysters & a very tasty tuna avocado salad. The sashimi trio of tuna, snapper & peppered salmon also had great flavors. Then the 3x3 sushi plates that followed had awesome flavors, combining fish with shellfish, caviar, sea urchin and truffles. The torch seared pieces had the most smoky flavor. We supplemented the meal with Wagyu handrolls and even though the beef was fire seared, it didn't have as much flavor as I would have expected. Dessert was a very good sesame milk pudding drizzled with honey. Highly recommended! read more

Service: 10/10 - I had accidentally booked a reservation with their sister restaurant so was very surprised when I walked in on New Years Eve and was told I did not have a reservation. They were still able to seat me almost right away at the sushi bar. Server took the initiative to call the sister restaurant to ensure I didn't get charged for a no-show on Resy. Waiters were very knowledgeable about the food and were quick to remove finished plates. Environment: 8/10 - Relatively laid back sushi restaurant with both bar seating and table seating. Restaurant had a coat rack for customers to use in the back of the restaurant which I thought was very kind. The music was contemporary American pop which contributed to the open chatty atmosphere it seems like everyone was in. Food: 9.5/10 -Chef was very intentional in the order of dishes. He tended to alternate between savory and acidic which I liked. All his dishes had a contrast in texture so it was always exciting for the palette. Forgot to take photos of 2 sushi dishes 1. This tiny restaurant offers great service and excellent sushi - creative and tasty. I'm giving it 4 stars because of the limited menu. We ordered the lunch specials (7 pc sushi with roll/omikase and 3 rolls). Our lunch included miso soup and green tea. Miso soup had a nice smokey scent. One of the few or only vegetable dishes offered is a seaweed salad. Obviously, eel and crab are cooked, but they have just a toaster oven and blowtorch, so you won't find much in the way of cooked food here. The sushi options are limited, but what they have is very good. The Salmon/Tomato sushi was an especially delicious surprise. read more

i pass by this place on every walk to uws so i decided to bite the bullet and make a lunch reservation for myself. even at noon (opening time) on a wednesday, the place quickly became half full with patrons and it's easy to see why. the restaurant has an omakase counter where you can watch the whole kitchen and chefs do their work, and then some extra table seating near the windows. i opted for the lunch special omakase which was seven pieces (red snapper, chutoro, king salmon, blue fin tuna, shima aji, hotate, seared fatty tuna/uni, chopped toro handroll) for $55. the fish was very clearly high quality and prepared well -- every piece was delicious with depth of flavor and sometimes a surprising but pleasant aftertaste. obviously the seared fatty tuna with uni and caviar (gold flakes on top) was a star featuring flashy and premium ingredients (the searing of the fatty tuna in this case added a nice smoky flavor rather than cooking the fish) -- but i was more impressed by the ability to create so many layers of flavor and elevate standard pieces in especially the king salmon (with salted tomato) and shima aji (with ginger scallion and garlic chips). will say the scallop was a little disappointing and surprisingly my least favorite of the bunch, a bit overly fishy without much to punch it up. overall a pleasant experience leaving me wanting more (aka, to try the full omakase menu someday). read more

FYI, I've only been once, and we did omakase. But if it's indicative of the rest of the food, and the service, it's bang-on. The food was so fantastic and the chef even had an amazing conversation with us about the food choice. It was so cool. We went for a special occasion (it's a little pricey) and I'm dying to go again. It's a very simple looking place. Not fancy. And a little hidden. Which is good! Keep it in the neighborhood for us in-the-know. :) read more

This was our first time at any Sushi Lin. It generally lived up to its reputation based on reviews at other locations. Sat at the counter. Good amount of space and good distance from other customers. Fresh fish, well prepared and plated. Nice use of caviar, truffle, and searing torch. A couple of unique pieces but others were similar to other places - no complaints there. We finished the full omakase in abt 1 hr which is fine, esp if you got some place to go to afterwards, but it felt a little rushed and we had a bottle of sake so would have preferred it stretched another 15-30 minutes. The sushi rice could use some improvement as certain pieces didn't hold together as well, and generally lacked a bit of the taste and texture at other places. Service was good although filling water glass was missed for a long period. We'll be back. read more

Today I decided to try Sushi Lin for lunch, and I wasn't disappointed. I arrived shortly after they opened at 12::00. I ordered hot sake ($22) and the lunch omakase ($55). Both were good. This was only my second omakase, but it is hands down, if you can afford it, the best way to go for sushi. The fish is melt in your mouth and very interesting because each Sushi chef has their own interpretation of how to prepare it. The staff were polite and friendly. The Sushi Chef checked on me after every piece to make sure I liked it. I have no idea, however, what fish I was eating because the chef as well as the rest of the staff were very soft spoken and, with their accent, I couldn't understand much of what they said. The Chef explained each piece to me, and I just nodded my head as if I understood. The restaurant seating is one side sushi bar and the other tables. It is a pleasant place, and the chairs are very comfortable. Since it is in my neighborhood, I'll definitely return. read more

I was so excited to finally check out this new sushi spot in the hood. It was all so fresh and flavorful. We had some starters, rolls, handrolls, and a selection of Omakase. The tuna was amazing as was the salmon, yellow tail, and snapper. The tuna flight looked amazing (note to self). We passed by this earlier in the week and couldn't believe sushi place opened in place of a bakery. I suggested to my family to try it. Not knowing what would happen.
