Nope! They get a star because our service was good and a star because the decor is enjoyable. But this business model won't help the place last long. It isn't a buffet with all the rules they have in place. My son and I only ordered once, the amount of food we thought we could eat because sometimes at these places the servers don't come back. Anyway. As we were waiting for our food, we heard the table next to us complaining that the food just wasn't good and didn't taste fresh. And they were right. The food was not good, things looked old and tasted funky, and wasabi should never be that color green. We each finished everything we ordered except 1/2 a roll. Here's why I'm angry. I am industry, and while I understand that AYCE places don't want a huge amount of waste, you can't make a dining experience feel uncomfortable and treat us like children by making us clean our plates. But charging an additional $12 because we couldn't finish a roll is ridiculous. We didn't even eat enough food for the $30/per person price, but to RECHARGE us for the same food is insane. $12 for a roll that we didn't even want to take home because it wasn't good. We were told wether we took it to go or left it behind, we were still going to be charged the $12. I won't go to this place again, for sure. read more

My party of 3 came last night hoping to try out their food, but it seems they didn't really want us to. When we arrived, they told us it would be a 15-20 minute wait, which is fine so we sat down and waited. 30 minutes passed all while we saw dozens of tables/groups of people leave, and we asked how much longer we would have to wait, to which they replied it would be another 5 minutes. At that point we were fed up, we would have been fine to wait longer for those 5 minutes, maybe even longer if they would have just talked to us. Once we were told the wait time, we were never talked to again by the hostess nor the manager hovering around. No apology for the wait, no reassurance of when we would be getting called to sit, just ignored. Even when we asked how much longer it would be after we were past the 15-20 minute predicted time, we were offered no explanation or apology. I really loved the decor inside this restaurant it was absolutely beautiful. All the sushi was super fresh and everything our waitress Holly recommended was amazing. Sadly, Sushi Masa has gone downhill and quickly. A trademark dispute has led to the takeover by a Houston restaurant, who have immediately come in and made numerous changes, and none of them good. No longer are the cuts of fresh, flavorful fish generous--they are so thin now, and much smaller, with the scallop being so thin and shapeless it won't stay on your chopsticks. The cuts of fish are parsimonious and small and the Sashimi boats are no longer creatively decorated in creative decorations made of lemon peels and cucumbers. The once great Naruto roll is now 5 quarter-sized pieces with one fish and a lonely piece of avocado inside, without the flavorful sauce it once rested on. You are now restricted (not sure legally how that's going to go, since they advertise all you can eat) to a certain number of pieces of sashimi. The sashimi was the attraction, but no more. Eating there yesterday, the tuna tasted...dated..Not the usual freshness I have become accustomed to. Instead of putting wasabi and ginger on each plate as most decent sushi restaurants do, you have to ask for it. And you have to ask for rice and vegetables with your teriyaki. How chintzy..Service is still good, though, but wonder how long that will last, when male waiters are getting 4x as many tables as the female waitstaff. Sexist, much?? Male staff are getting preferential treatment when it comes to scheduling, too. Since this restaurant is frequented by alot of female diners, that might not go over too well. The original owners were getting it right, but the new owners are heavy-handed and tight-fisted. When the customer is paying your bills, you need to be a little different and less cheap, or your customers will vaporize..This isn't Houston, this is Richmond, where loyalty to a restaurant is real and customers will ruin you. Never again! Came in and was advised it would be a 30 minute wait to be seated, no problem. Once we were finally seated, we placed our drink order and initial food order. Server came back 15 minutes later and advised that the kitchen was extremely backed up and our food would be delayed, mind you not even every table was occupied at this point and it was lunch time. He was empty handed so I ask if we could at least get our drinks and he acted shocked at the request. 30 minutes passes still with no food not even an app, so I go talk to the lady who appears to be in charge and I use the words in charge lightly. I tell her we have been waiting 45 minutes and still have not received any of our order and she advises that she will check on the status. Another 15 minutes passes and the table across from us who was seated after us receives their order. At this point, we decide to leave as we are not paying $32/person for this inept experience. They brought the wrong food to several tables around us and were extremely confused and unorganized. Prior to moving here, we frequently visited a similar establishment in Fredericksburg that blows this place away in every way and only charges $20/ person read more

First walked in and the place was beautiful. The biggest problem I have was our server. Not sure if this lady was on drugs, going through mental issues, or something else was going on but she was extremely erratic. I told her I was allergic to a few things and she still brought it out. I started to just pick around what I was allergic to and she said to me "don't pick at it, we'll just waste the entire thing" and I explained once again that I was allergic to those things and it would seriously hurt me if I ate them. Service was not wonderful, three of us ordered a few rolls, two sets of rolls came quickly, the third set took about 15 minutes longer than the first two. Water was refilled only after repeated asking, and while we finished our tea, we were never asked about a refill for that. It appears they do not want you to eat much because once they serve you the first time they don't come back to serve you and they see you are done and they ignore you hoping you will leave. They give you baby portions that even a baby would go hungry. Don't ask for Seafood soup the contents looks like slime from I will not mention. Just the 2 of us left paying after tax and a tip $88.00 The food was terrible, the service was terrible, the price was ridiculous. My boyfriend and I went expecting decent ayce sushi but were horrified at how bad the food was. The entrance area was "aesthetically pleasing" but you most likely wont sit there as there's only a few tables that are decorated like that (which is fine but something to take note of). The sushi was weirdly cut, mushy, fishy, and not fresh. There was also a hair in one of the pieces of sashimi. The rice for all our rolls were also extremely mushy and soggy - almost like mochi. If you want sushi of similar caliber, you'd have a better experience going to the grocery store and grabbing pre-made rolls. Extremely disappointed in ourselves we fell victim to the clearly sponsored reviews on social media. House salad was bad, appetizers were small and average, chicken katsu was over cooked and didn't come with rice, sushi rolls were okay. Had ten different people come up to the table to take dishes away or bring food which was really weird. Way too overpriced for the quality. Yoshi sushi is a better option. This New AYCE Sushi is a step above the rest. I was looking for a venue for me birthday Lunch. Although the site stated they are having soft opening, and two hours away, I couldn't pass up a chance to try a new place. This place is an absolute gem. Everything from the interior, food, and service were Excellent. The interior is stylish and unique. There's a large waiting area, separated by a Koi fish stream and an adorable Bridge leading to the main dining areas. Plenty of seating for any occasion, be it a date night or a large party, there is even an enclosed area for karaoke fun. I think this place is so great that I might go their again! read more

I just went yesterday Dec 26, and I love the buffet style! Felisha was my server & loved the experience! the food was really good. I was not too keen on the seafood soup, but if your like oysters then you would love it. I got spicy rolls and it was VERY filling& flavorful, I could only finish 5/6 rolls! Their mango ice cream is really fresh too! So good! My friend ordered teriyaki chicken & it looked delicious. She swears by the clear soup too!!!! This is the review that got me on Yelp. I'm an avid AYCE sushi goer, and this place was sorely disappointing. I don't even see the point in ordering, when what arrives is a mix of their disappointing rolls and low-quality sashimi. Everything about this place is a facade. The sky high prices had me thinking the quality would be better than most comparable places in the city, but I was sorely mistaken. I'd advise going to Yoshi Sushi instead where sushi is of higher quality and what you actually ordered. The atmosphere is crammed in this place with no sense of privacy.
