I gave Sushi Q another try, post pandemic. Although most restaurants on the average has gone down in quality due to worker shortage or product availability, I'm glad to announce that Sushi Q has become better and I've bumped them up. I ordered the Bond (shrimp tempura, cream cheese, yellowtail, spicy mayo, roasted garlic sauce, teriyaki sauce, miso dressing, and green onions) and the Dragon (shrimp tempura, unagi, avocado, cucumber, teriyaki sauce, miso dressing, tobiko). We received separate wooden plate blocks. The wooden plates were in very good condition and not overly worn out like many other restaurants. We received our rolls 10-15 minutes after ordering. Both rolls tasted fresh and all the ingredients went well together. Given the state of the economy, Sushi Q's prices are not as crazy high as many other sushi restaurants. Servers and chefs were friendly. Looking forward to coming back when I'm in the area. read more

Delicious Sushi & Excellent Service! Visiting family in Elk Grove, we decided to have Sushi. Discovering and trying a new sushi place has been our routine! So I usually go online and find a new sushi place with good reviews to try! This time around, Sushi Q, which is within walking distance, came up and being so close we were all surprised that we had not tried it yet! So Sushi Q it was! Sushi Q is located in shopping mall sandwiched between a hair saloon and taco place! No wonder we never noticed it! The dinning area is not very big, but it is big enough to fit about 30 people (I'm guestimating!). Our server was a very nice young man named Anthony (if I am not mistaken) who was very pleasant and good at what he was doing. He was able to answer all our questions and accommodate us where he could. We stared wit an order of Veggie Tempura, which we shared and enjoyed. My two companions were not very hungry so Anthony bent the rules and let them order two Kid's Meals, one Chicken Teriyaki and one Sesame Chicken (both delicious). They included rice, salad and choice of 4 piece California Roll or 2 piece gyoza. I am a nigiri fan most of the time, so I took a chance on Chef's Choice Sushi and ordered a 9 Piece Nigiri. I shared a couple pieces with others, but the 6-7 pieces that I had were delicious. What we got: torch roll (red/white tuna torched on top), and the lunch bento box w/ 5pc sashimi + 3 pc bbq albacore - my mum and I LOVED both! I literally had to go next door at Little Caesars to grab some food/snack to eat while waiting for sushi. Pros: -Friendly Staff -Appetizers were served quite fast within less than 10min upon ordering. 2 order of Edamame & Calamari. -Drinks were good. Also were very attentive when my party of 10 needed refills of water. -Sushi is fresh! -Clean bathroom -Great vibe Cons: -Serving main dishes took quite a long time, about 1-1.5hr or so. It's raw sushi. I don't know how much longer it needed time to prepare that long. And the restaurant wasn't quite that busy around 1830 that night. My fiancée and I went last night. 6 on Saturday and more staff were visible than there were customers. The service was good. The place was dark and not well lit. That was the vibe they seemed to be trying to go for. Trying to make it feel a little more intimate. We started with bowls of miso. The miso was pretty watery. They needed way more miso paste. I drank it because we needed something to warm us up from the cold outside. The Scallop Tataki roll was out first. It was good but it was tough to taste the yummy, slightly sweet scallops with all the sauce. The pieces were also a little small. Next up Sushi Q. The namesake roll lived up to expectations and was big and flavorful. Last to come out was the worst. The Bodin Roll. First glance, it was like half the size of the Sushi Q roll. It had an extremely sour taste and my fiancée and I both thought the fish was bad. We sent it back and they credited our bill. They said that they would inspect all of that tuna. The Sushi Q was worth trying again. Not so much for the others. Sushi places are a dime a dozen and there will always be another to try. read more

Service was on point! They didn't miss a beat. Checked on us often, picked up empty plates quickly. So many options on the menu! We ordered the Bob Marley and Uncle J. The flavors were ok, could use a bit more pizzazz. The fried cheesecake was yummy. We will need to come back and check out other options, hopefully we are more impressed. We came on a Saturday around 7pm and it was pretty packed. It is a fairly small restaurant but we were lucky enough to snag their last open table versus having to sit at the sushi bar. Menu was pretty standard of a sushi spot, although they didn't have bento boxes, they had what they called "large plates" that came with salad, rice, miso soup and your main entree. We got plain edamame, baby calamari, bbq albacore, teriyaki chicken large plate meal and the sushi Q roll. Everything came out at different times. So we got edamame and my sushi roll first then about 5 minutes later we got the calamari, 5 more minutes the bbq albacore and about 10 minutes later my husbands teriyaki chicken. Wish the timing of the appetizers and main entrees were timed a little better, but no biggie. The edamame was heavily salted, we had to shake them to get the salt off before eating. The baby calamari was delicious but I wish they used a different sauce other than sweet chili sauce, the bbq albacore was kinda spicy but cooked perfectly. It was tender and buttery and really good. My Sushi Q roll had a nice bit of spice to it that was paired well a hint of lemon. My husband was stuffed from the appetizers and his salad and miso soup that he didn't get to really eat his teriyaki chicken but I tried a few pieces and it sweet but not overly sweet, it was just right. It also came a pretty large portion of chicken, which was nice. Overall, I do feel some of their sushi roll prices were a little higher than other places, but we enjoyed our meal and seeing as this place is fairly close to home, we will for sure be back. read more

I'm on a low-carb diet and they were able to modify my sushi rolls so I could stay on track and feel like I was cheating! Always get their: Elk Grove Roll Tsunami Roll Sesame Chicken Miso Soup. For me, their rolls are always very good and mostly always on point. The only reason why I hold back from giving this place 5 stars is due to their prices (Very pricey and continuing to climb) and their consistency of the flavor of the rolls. Sushi Q never disappoints. Whether you want a quick casual bite or a semi formal dinner, this spot seems to tend to both in my opinion. Ambiance is lively but calm enough. Place is on the smaller side, but it's just enough space. A few tables along the walls with seatings at the bar. If you have more than 5-6, I'd recommend calling ahead of time. They're super quick with service. So most times we're in and out like that. If we ever have to wait, it's fairly quick. Worth the wait in my opinion. Small kitchen but plenty of sushi chefs. Presentation of sushi always comes out super vibrant and fresh, you can definitely tell they use good quality ingredients. I see all the raving reviews and was excited to dine in but I was truly disappointed in the calamari and Elk Grove roll. Calamari was bitter and breading was a bit dark from my guess the oil was old. We informed the server she kindly offered to send it back. Elk Grove roll for me was just over sauce! The flavors were great but the sauce just drowned all the freshness from the grilled tuna. Ordered kids sesame chicken for my daughter which was great! But it had the same bitter taste like the Calamari. One of the most annoying things about this spot is getting in touch with them. They either don't answer the phone or take it off the hook completely, leaving you no choice but to show up in person. And when you finally arrive, the first thing you're hit with is, "It's about an hour wait." Like, really? After all the hassle just to place an order, you have to wait even longer? It's beyond frustrating, especially when you're just trying to grab some great food. Speaking of service, the waitstaff often act like they're doing you a favor just by taking your order. Hospitality is definitely lacking--there's barely a smile, and they don't go out of their way to make you feel welcome. It's almost like they're irritated that you're spending your money there. If it wasn't for the quality of the sushi, I might've stopped coming altogether. Now, as for the ambiance, it's actually pretty nice. The place is clean, with a calm vibe that's great for relaxing and enjoying your meal. But the tables? They could really use an upgrade. They're a bit wobbly, which is kind of annoying when you're trying to enjoy your food. It's been awhile since my last Sushi Q visit and I was in the area so I opted to pick up lunch to go on Friday afternoon. They were pretty busy, but I was able to get my order in quickly and wait in my car. I was told it would be a 20 minute wait and they weren't far off with the time. I had their teriyaki chicken and Monterey trails roll with rice and salad for about $14-$15. I thought the portion was perfect considering I was given a full size Monterey trails roll, which essentially is a deep fried California roll. LOL, everything was yummy but nothing really stood out in comparison to other sushi restaurants.
