I completely forgot about this place for the longest time. I've since been back a couple times recently and it is so damn good. I'm definitely keeping Sushi Taro on my radar from now on. Yes, there's plenty of hibachi/sushi restaurants around the area in Mt P, but something about the hibachi here was particularly good... get the shrimp with garlic and soy mixed sauce! Honestly, everything from the rice, to the veggies, was all just a notch above the norm. They have great specials for lunch and I can't wait to come back for a bento box! The dinner prices aren't bad either and they always seem to hook you up with a little treat at the end. Our water glasses were never empty, and it was no bother for a little extra wasabi and ginger for our fresh sushi. You just can't beat my staple tuna avacado maki roll, but I love to try different chef special rolls each time. So far I've loved the Taro, scam, SC crunch, rockey shrimp. The Philadelphia roll was a little overwhelmed by cream cheese so I recommend the salmon with Asian pear...the name is escaping me. And my friend who doesn't love sushi has plenty to choose from, from General Tso's to pad thai to hibachi. I ordered the rainbow roll and the hibachi chicken and I was not impressed. I'm here out of town on a trip and I thought this place had decent ratings, but the food did not live up. The food was absolutely delicious. The sashimi was fresh and eel was yum! Teriyaki filet and chicken was the best ever had. The filet was medium rare just like we asked for and so tender. Melt in your mouth steak and chicken. Now the Lychee Martinis were out of this world. I always drink dirty martinis and was very skeptical and ordered one to test drive. OMG so glad I did, sweeter, different than a dirty martini but oh so good. The service was even better, the entire staff was right on top of everything. No wait on anything. We got take out from here last Saturday. They have an online ordering service, but it won't tell you when your food will be ready so you kin of just have to guess. Our took about 35 minutes, but they were clearly very busy. Sushi was good. Nothing amazing, but still decent, especially for being relatively cheap. Love this place. The sushi is fresh and tasty. My favorite is the Yama hand roll with spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, cucumber and asparagus slices wrapped in soy paper. It is so yummy! I ordered a take-out/to-go/pickup order from Sushi Taro. When speaking to the employee who answered the phone, I had to shout into the phone and repeat both my phone number and my order multiple times so that she could understand me. After completing my order, she told me that my order would be ready for pickup in 20 to 25 minutes. I arrived at Sushi Taro 35 minutes later and told them my phone number and order. I was told that the food would be right out. I politely and patiently stood by at the front hostess stand/counter for 15 minutes. During this time, the restaurant staff said nothing to be about my order being delayed or any other updates. Finally, after 15 minutes of standing there while the staff walked past me multiple times and ignored me, I asked for an update on my order and if it would be ready soon. The staff maintained their approach of the puzzled look and remained steadfast in their slow demeanor, and turned around and walked away to the kitchen. 5 minutes later, the staff came back from the kitchen with my brown bagged order and handed it to me. I was not offered any compensation or even an apology for my terrible to-go dining experience with Sushi Taro. Little did I know that my experience was about to get much, much worse. When I returned home from finally getting my order, I opened the bag and all over the outside of the containers and the inside of the bag was sauce - everything was drenched. Then, I tasted the food... (1) Shrimp Shu Mai Dumplings - The dumplings were doughy, raw, and undercooked and the "shrimp" filling tasted salty like it was made up of only pure fish paste. Worse than this, though, was the fact that every shu mai dumpling was soaked and covered in the dipping sauce. The sauce was in a dipping sauce to go cup with lid, but the lid was not fastened on the cup at all and merely draped over. This also caused the sauce to leak out of the container holding the shu mai and into the bottom of the bag that the rest of the items came in. (2) Chicken Lettuce Wraps- These wraps were also drenched in sauce, causing the lettuce wraps to be soggy and tasted like i was chewing on a wet paper towel. Although the chicken was swimming in sauce and soggy lettuce leafs, it was very dry and salty. It was so dry and chewy that it tasted like minced up rubbery pieces of microwaved mystery meat. So the soup of sauce, the sogginess of the lettuce, and the dryness of the chicken unfortunately made this dish completely inedible. This sauce also leaked all over the bottom of the bag like the shu mai did. (3) "Yummy Yummy" Sushi Roll: The undelectable tastes of this dish was the third strike out for the kitchen staff at this restaurant. It was deep fried and covered in a very thick batter (not light tempura style) which prevented the seaweed wrapper from being tasted. The middle of the roll had so much sauce and spices that the various fish as described on the menu were undetectable and just tasted like a spicy, mushy ball of a concoction of spices and sauce mashed up with some rice and covered in a thick batter. If the middle sauce wasn't enough, the outside of this roll was also covered in mayonnaise. This caused the batter to soak up the mayonnaise and made it taste even soggier than it was to begin with. This roll should be renamed the "Yucky Yucky" Sushi Roll. Overall, this place is not a good restaurant and not one I would recommend to anyone. Between the slow, nonchalant, and lackadaisical service in the front, to the terrible tastes of what is sold as "food" from the back kitchen, this place is severely lacking to say the least. The price of the food is also a concern, since Sushi Taro is in the same price range (or, in skme instances, more expensive even) than other competitive places also selling sushi, Japanese food, and other similar dishes to the ones here. The name of this "restaurant" should have been the first flag, since taro is nowhere on their menu and not served here. I won't be returning and I will make sure to recommend far superior sushi and Japanese restaurants in town to any and all who ask. Also, as of writing this review (12/12/19), this Yelp Page for Sushi Taro is listed by Yelp as unclaimed, which only furthers my point about the carelessness of this entire business. read more

A spot my husband and I loved in the past recently gone downhill. With no inside seating we ordered through the window and waited an hour for our food (no other customers there, just one pickup order.) Our disposable drink cups with dirty with dead bugs on them and de brew floating in our water. After finally receiving our $50 meal in a brown sack we unloaded it all to find it cold, unappetizing, and with dead fruit flies on the to-go boxes. I was honestly appalled that such a pricey meal required you to buss your own table & eat cold food out of dirty containers. This should have been a $20 meal for some sushi and fried rice. I don't know how this place has 4.5 stars. We walked in and all the staff is clearly very stressed out. Very uncomfortable to feel like an inconvenience but the important part is the sushi. The sushi was absolutely frozen. The piece were so big it was ridiculous and not fun to eat at all. Not sure if they just put the fish on ice or if it was frozen previously. The restaurant has nice embiance with large windows. Lots of light is a very small venue. The sushi was fresh and average. The low rating given to this visit is based entirely on the poor / unacceptable customer service received on 5/6. Before I go into details, I'd like to say that I've experienced lower than acceptable service on more than one occasion prior to my latest visit but it's not always bad. On the flip side, the food has always been fantastic, typically 3-4 stars. Having said that, the latest visit makes me question whether I'll ever go back. I guess that will depend on whether or not the management wants to acknowledge they have an issue. As I've stated previously, I'm usually not a real big fan of take out sushi. However, we've had some good results with other similar restaurants so decided to give it another try at Sushi Taro. I called in an order on Sat night, nothing elaborate... a few sushi rolls and some sashimi. I was told it would be ready in 20 minutes so that's when I showed up. There were 3 people working not counting the kitchen staff; the three were clearly overwhelmed.... 1 of the 3 was at the register but wasn't speaking to patrons or answering the phone (which was ringing off the hook). Another seemed to be doing nothing but running food to tables, and the 3rd appeared to be trying to do everything,and failing. After a few minutes he acknowledged me and asked for my phone #. He couldn't find it in the system so he asked what I ordered... he seemed to have difficulty finding my order and got a little flustered and went off to help someone else. He came back several minutes later and asked again what I ordered. This time he found it in his system, told me the cost, took my credit card and gave me a slip to sign. This seemed like progress.... Not! Once I paid, he went on to serve other tables, take orders, and bring checks to tables. I don't think he even checked if my order was ready. 20 minutes of standing there goes by and it still doesn't appear he's checked on my order so I ask if he can check on it, only to be given a very abrupt "Not Yet!". Ok, you might be a little stressed but an attitude is unnecessary. However, I overlooked it and decided to be patient and wait a little longer. At least 3 other patrons came in to pickup to-go orders... one experienced the same issue I had (they couldn't find the phone number or the actual order). Another person actually had to re-order because his order simply was not in the system. 2 of the patrons were clearly becoming very frustrated. All throughout this time, the male seemed to be yelling (in his assumed Asian tongue) at the younger of the 2 women working there. Another 10 minutes goes by... now the lady that I thought was only running food asked for my phone number as if I just walked in. Once again, they couldn't find the number so she asked what I ordered. I told her, and off she went to check... she came back with a bag so I thought I was all set finally. She hands me the bag only to find out that it's clearly not mine. At this point, 1 of the other patrons waiting is getting really anxious so she asks if they could check on OUR orders. I didn't ask her to include me but ok, if she can get results, why not... She got the same rude response as I did previously... "Not Yet!". If I hadn't paid already I probably would have walked out. As we're waiting, it's clear they have completely lost all sense of organization as they were yelling at each other, shuffling receipts, and had to apologize to more than one table for either having the wrong receipt or for the delay. Still just standing there waiting, and even though they already acknowledged having my order and settled my bill, they again asked what I ordered. This time, they asked if they could see my receipt... Really? Do you need proof that I paid or are you that confused? I gave them my receipt, they appeared to shuffle through their online system, and finally it looked like someone was going to the kitchen to check on my order. They came back with it... As I accepted the bag, I kindly mentioned that maybe they need additional help to which I received a very rude "Sometimes Nobody.... Last night nobody, tonight different". All in all it was well over an hour to get some basic sushi take-out. It might have been okay had I received a simple apology for it taking so long or better yet a refund of some of the cost or coupon for future use, or even asked if I wanted a beer or something while a waited; I probably would have declined but it would have shown they cared. Instead, a long wait, a lot of aggravation, and very bad attitudes. Certainly not a customer service oriented experience! As I said previously, food is typically 3-4 stars, service is inconsistent but I'd say typically between 2-3 stars. This visit, the food was still in the 3-4 star range but the service is a big fat 0 star. I hope they take actions to improve on this, and welcome a response. read more
