My boyfriend and I stopped by this cute little sushi spot on our way to LAX. When we walked in it was very cozy and it seemed to have a very family-friendly vibe to it as well. There was both a sushi bar as well as tables to sit down and eat. We sat at a table but it might have been a better idea to sit at the sushi bar as it was a little busy. Because it was busy, the service was a little slow and we were waiting for a little while (maybe like 10 minutes) to be served. The chef at the sushi bar was very apologetic and helpful though, and when we finally got to order we chose the rainbow, dragon, and volcano rolls (our go-to's for new sushi spots) -- which were all brought out fairly quickly. The presentation of the sushi on the plates were very nice and the sushi itself was very flavorful as well. I wouldn't definitely go back the next time I am in the area, and I would definitely recommend this spot to friends! I would only note that, as for any restaurant, there might be a little bit of a wait if it is busy. read more

It's a hole in the wall in a shopping center. It also gets really busy so plan accordingly. My friends come here all the time and so they told the chef to make us some special rolls. All the sushi rolls was fresh and addicting. Hands down the best yakisoba I have ever had. - will be back for that alone. There were so many rolls to choose from that I had a hard time narrowing it down. I didn't want anything heavy so I avoided fried foods. Small Sashimi Combo: 10/10 - Thick, fresh cuts of sashimi and it came with a shrimp! Sexy Roll: 10/10 - So extremely delicious and packed full of an assortment of fish. Loved the various textures and refreshing bite since it came with no rice. B.S.C.R. Roll: 6/10 - Honestly, this was just a dressed-up Cali roll with small bits of scallops on top. I was expecting the bigger scallops and the rice was kinda crispy... Going to give them the benefit of the doubt because everything else was so delicious. Love this place! Small hole in The wall, you get greater by everyone as you enter. You get seated, order gets taken, drinks brought. All friendly. The cooks sometimes send over "special" dishes for you to try, and they randomly have sake shots for everyone! The cooks know how to pump up the crowd! Well executed Americanized sushi. Located in a strip mall, the small interior is casual and homey. Though their sushi chefs seem to be classically trained, the menu is not authentic Japanese by any means. That being said, if you love big, creative maki made with fresh ingredients, you will love Sushi Yoko. The best thing I ordered was their Spider Roll, which was packed with huge pieces of fried soft shell crab. The balance of textures and flavors was exquisite. The Crunch California Roll was good too, if a little one note. The Vegetable Roll included a nice variety of vegetables. All of the rolls were large for the price. My husband got a variety of nigiri, all of which he remarked were good, but not great. After we started eating, I noticed sea urchin on their specials menu behind the sushi bar. Our waitress informed me that they only had a little bit left; enough for two pieces of nigiri. Perfect, this was exactly what I wanted! Sushi Yoko is absolutely amazing! It's not even just one or two aspects. The food, the sushi chefs, the servers, the atmosphere, the ambiance,... all of it was amazing. I came here with my wife for an early dinner before attending the Trevor Noah show at The Forum. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered a decent-sized amount of sushi to start. Apparently to the server, it was a big order for 2 people. My wife and I chuckled cause we both know how much sushi we could eat. When we got our order, the food was absolutely delicious. In terms of all sushi places we've been to in Southern California, this place is definitely #1 on our list. There were 2 servers and both were very attentive. The sushi chefs were friendly and provided great service. I even got a couple of sake shots in with the chefs. The restaurant wasn't busy at all since it was only an hour before closing. We were welcomed and seated immediately. The restaurant staff was super friendly and the service was pretty fast. The owner was sitting at a nearby table was was very welcoming and generous too. They brought us sake on the house, which was so nice of them! The quality of the sushi was great. The fish was fresh and the rolls were flavorful. The prices weren't too bad either. I will definitely come back to Sushi Yoko when I'm in the area. What's not to love about fresh sushi? I tried their playboy roll, tamago nigiri, some yellowtail nigiri and the caterpillar roll. All were fresh and delicious and I was a big fan of the playboy roll-- it was was mildly spicy topped with lightly seared salmon. The caterpillar roll was pretty average, and I do wish it had a bit more unagi in it! Their service was spotty-- our hot sake took a while to be served (the server had to be reminded), and the orders got mixed up a few times. They were busy, so I totally understand that. The hot sake itself wasn't that great, which is why I was a little underwhelmed with my experience at this establishment. Although their sushi is fresh, the overall dining experience did not "wow" me... Which means I will have to be back to experience them one more time so I can update the review accordingly! read more

I went for the second time and this time was just as great as the first. Jeff is one of the main sushi chefs there and made our stay just as memorable as the first. We ordered a lot of rolls!! We got the Playboy roll, the play girl roll, the baked crawfish roll, and the crunch tempura roll. We also had the garlic edamame and the highly recommended Kurosawa sake. Although we ordered and ate all this food, our stay could not be complete without complimentary sushi and miso soup from chef Jeff! The servers and the other sushi chefs/cooks also delivered our food quickly and waited on us with such grace and class which made this visit all the more inviting. This hidden gem in Gardena not to be missed!! My friend and I have already planned when we will be going back.
