TL; DR One of my GO TO sushi restaurants, Reservations are highly recommended on weekends, HH Priced sushi and rolls, Tuna Cup is worth a try! One of my go to sushi restaurants in Northern Virginia! I often come here after work to catch their happy hour deal from 5pm to 6:30pm. For their HH they usually discount some things by 50cents to a couple dollars. Like their salmon jaw which is normally 6-7 dollars but during HH it's $4.30. My boyfriend and I always end up ordering the same thing, everytime we come here. For an appetizer we ordered the salmon jaw, because why not?. The meat that comes from the jaw is just really fatty and unctuous. It's truely a treat when ever we get a chance to order it. In terms of sushi we got Tuna, Salmon, Yellow Tail, Eel, and Uni Nigiri. For rolls we got scallop tempura, shrimp tempura, eel, avocado, salmon avocado, and a spicy tuna roll. When we ordered everything, it seemed like we didn't order quite enough food to satisfy our hunger. Once the food came out, which took 15 minutes, we were a bit overwhelmed at how much we ordered. We finished the plate but we just had a hard time breathing towards the end... we ended up eating too much :), which is a good problem to have.. sometimes. The sushi and rolls tasted nice and clean, nothing was fishy. The rice was seasoned really well and not overly squished onto the nori. My favorites are always the rolls because i have a weakness for rice and sushi together. If you want to try something new and exciting they have a couple specials that run for a couple weeks based on the availability of the ingredients. It may sound strange but they have a dish called a tuna cup and it's exactly how it sounds, it's rice wrapped with nori to create a barrier/cup for the chef to stuff it with spicy tuna mixture. It's really delicious with spicy mayo on the side and worth the price during HH! Overall, we come here when ever we have a free afternoon to just relax and not have to worry about dinner and to enjoy each other's company! The food itself is pretty good - I'd give it a 4 star on just food alone. But the ordering/customer service aspect cut their rating down to 2 stars. There's no option to order for carryout except by phone and I spent over 20 minutes trying to get connected to a human being. The phone either rings forever, or gives a busy signal. Once I finally got through, someone picked up the phone and just set it off the hook (I could hear restaurant noises in the background). They left me on the line for 5 minutes, and I kept saying "hello?" but would get no response. After 5 minutes of hearing just restaurant noises - they hung up. I'm thinking that having them pick up the phone to just leave it off the hook is why you always get a busy signal when you try to call. I was quoted 35 min for the food to be ready, but the wait ended up being 50 minutes and I was also handed someone else's order and had to return to the restaurant to get the correct order. All in all, it took an hour and a half to place my order and get my food. read more

I did not like the sushi. First thing I noticed the server was not that friendly. I did not think sushi was very fresh and the presentation was mediocre. Got the vibe it was a local restaurant , seemed like just locals were present. On a positive note, it's in a quiet shopping center. The quality of my salmon teriyaki was poor, I did not enjoy it. However, the amount in the bento box was decent. For the value of $16 not bad then again most of it was tempura , not very filling. Overall, I was not impressed. I won't be coming back. I took my mom here for lunch, after several recommendations from family members to come here. We ordered the grilled Yellow Tail Jaw, Chirashi Lunch, and Sushi Lunch. The grilled Yellow Tail Jaw and Chirashi Lunch are the best deals for lunch. I highly recommend ordering the Yellow Tail Jaw because it comes to you hot and grilled, the skin is crispy and has the char flavored. The meat is so tender and plentiful. My mom and I devoured most of the Yellow Tail Jaw. Hands down the best thing to eat. The Chirashi Lunch is pretty big when you order multiple dishes and sharing. The raw fish is so fresh, doesn't taste fishy at all. The sushi lunch is good, but I prefer sashimi style vs. sushi style. I did try their spicy tuna roll, which was so good- it comes with avocado and spicy tuna. Again, nothing tasted fishy! I cannot wait to come back here. The place is already busy when it opens their doors at 11:30. The servers are so nice. Highly recommend making a reservation, especially for dinner. This place is a hidden gem! After delivering our baby, we stumbled upon sushi yoshi to make up for lost time while I was pregnant! This was such an amazing find. The cut of fish is extremely fresh. My husband and I have a few sushi go-to-place's in the neighborhood, but this Restuarant has quickly became our #1 sushi stomping grounds. The sushi and sashimi are marble-ly, fresh to the bite, with a melt in your mouth buttery consistency. Absolute dream every time we dine here. Not to mention the excellent customer service. When we initially discovered this place at the end of last summer, we ordered the sushi combo dinner set for 2. While breastfeeding my baby, I requested if I was able to swap out some tuna for salmon instead. Without hesitation, the workers happily obliged. Fast forward, they continue to do the same request up to today, and even make soy free accommodations given my daughters intolerance. Hidden gem in Vienna. We arrived at 1pm on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty packed. There's a reason why. Sushi Yoshi has fresh chirashi for a great price. The chirashi lunch is 13.25 and you can't beat that price. You get about 8 pieces of sashimi and it's very filling, ranging from salmon to yellow tail. We also opted for the salmon jaw appetizer, which was flavorful and just came off the grill. I wouldn't recommend eating this if you can't deal with bones, al though the bones are pretty big. You dip the salmon in a vinegar type of sauce. It was very filling as an appetizer. The hot green tea is complimentary. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for fresh and quality sushi with exceptional service in the area. If I was closer, I would definitely come here more frequently. read more

Seems like this place went under new management before COVID, and there has been some MAJOR issues. Sister in law ordered a large order for all of us, and she arrived early for the food. She ended up waiting another 20+ mins Once the food was picked up, numerous mistakes, missing items, and sauces spilled all on the bottom of the bag - 4 chirashi lunch -- missed all the rice & veggies, essentially we just paid for expensive sashimi - 1 teriyaki bento box- sauces spilled all over the bag, and missed the rice & soup - salad was literally ONLY iceberg lettuce, no dressing, no carrots, no toppings We tried calling back, and the phone ring and ring, with no one to pick up. Finally, when someone did pick up when we started telling her the issue, she hung up. Seems like the person packaging the food is the one that's screwing up the business. She's either over worked, don't care, or both. I will not be going back there again, and i'm sad that this 10+ year relationship with Sushi Yoshi has come to an end. They're actually Japanese owners which is somewhat rare for sushi restaurants in this area and the menu has unique offerings you wouldn't necessarily find elsewhere. They were only doing take out while we were going and they were always very busy, but we consistently got our food on time when calling ahead to order. There are a bunch of shops that you can walk around and check out while waiting if you need, and there's plenty of street parking; we never had to circle around to find parking. I've also eaten in person years ago and obviously the food is better there, but worth it for to-go too. read more

Unfortunately we were not impressed by this restaurant. The sushi rolls were good but you could tell the chicken was fried in old oil as evidenced by the taste and dark spots on the breading. We got straight mayo to accompany the chicken; I'm used to spicy mayo. The side salad that came with the entrees and with the katsu was bland (just lettuce and dressing for the side salad and then just lettuce with a lime next to the katsu). This is the only place I know of that serves the hijiki seaweed salad. That dish alone puts this restaurant way above the rest in the NoVa area. It's perfectly balanced salty and sweet flavors just make my mouth water thinking about it. I order it every single time I'm here. I also always get the shrimp tempura dinner. The menu has shrimp and veggie tempura but I ask them to make it all shrimp instead and they do it for me. The only drawback to this place is that they have very limited tables. So you really should reserve a table or you may never get one. They're busy all the time for dinner. But should you get lucky enough to be seated, you'll be in for a treat. read more

I came during their happy hour (M-F 5:00-6:30 PM) and the place was packed. It is a tight squeeze inside since the place is pretty small. I was surprised at how much food you can get with their happy hour menu. The salmon jaw given was huge and the price was so low. The sushi rolls I got (tuna, eel/avocado, shrimp tempura/avocado) were good for their value. It tasted fresh and was enjoyable. The dinner Chirashi was humongous. This was about $20 and not on the happy hour menu. You get a good portion of a sushi rice bowl with veggies. On the side, you are provided with around 15 pieces of sashimi. The service could have been better. They hardly checked up on us, and it was pretty difficult to get their attention. Overall the quality, quantity, and price are a good value. It was a surprise find when my husband and I visited the Caffe Amouri nearby. Then, it becomes our favorite family lunch spot. Our favorite is Chirashi, but the rest choices are good too. We had Udon, Sashimi and Unaju. Apparently, the lunch menu is more cost effective if you could make it. We always call to reserve a table before hand. A great sushi place hidden in Vienna!! They have a great lunch deal and the sushi was fresh and filling. I ordered the sashimi lunch and it came with rice, salad, and miso soup. The fish was fresh and well sliced. My only compliant is that there were small tuna pieces but no thick slices!! The takoyaki was some of the best I've had in America, the pieces were perfectly bite sized and the inside was runny but not doughy! This is my 600th review, so I wanted to do it right with a Yelp favorite like Sushi Yoshi. The first thing that I have to say, foodies, is believe the hype, because every glowing word of it is true. I know what you're thinking, another yelp lemming following the mob over the approval cliff, but I assure you when I say that Sushi Yoshi offers some of the best sushi in town, I'm singing the sushi gospel. First, the service was flawless. We arrived right at the height of the Friday dinner rush, and it looked as if there would be a wait; however, our waitress/hostess soon found us a seat out on the patio. The rest of the evening it was almost as if she could read our minds (ok, not so hard to do in my case...more sushi! please.) She was quick and efficient and didn't approach me once while I had half a dragon role in my mouth. Second, the food was fantastic. We ordered a two rolls ( Dragon Roll and California Roll), two specially salads (conch and squid), four pieces of uni with quail egg, several pieces of fatty tuna, and wine and beer. Every bite of this sushi feast was fresh and delicious, but I was really captivated by the quality and presentation of my uni (sea urchin), for the chief had nestled the quail egg on top in a protective avocado retaining wall. The result was a a piece of uni where you didn't have to worry about losing your egg. And it was oh so creamy and delicious that it could only be matched my our selection of fatty tuna, something so decadent that it virtually melted in the mouth...Sushi Heaven!! Finally, the sushi hat trick, the price. Yes, foodies, we had a ton of food and rinks and our totally bill for two avid sushi lovers still came to just $92. We quickly calculated that the same would cost us at least 30% in Old Town Alexandria, so this place stands as the sushi mother lode..Eureka!!! Four star food at five star values-- an experience almost as good as Sushi Taro at a more affordable price point. The small lot in back rarely has room. Lots of street parking in the area, plus the underground garage down the block. Ambiance is on the money (bright, casual but not sloppy), service is reserved but efficient. Waits can get long since it's a pretty small establishment, but Church St makes for a pleasant stroll. This is basically one of the places I put off reviewing for as long as possible because I'm selfish. There was a time when I would pit Sushi Yoshi against any other suburban sushi joint, and while freshness is still there I find the execution varies. More often than not, great knifework is evident across the board and the portioning is generous. I don't mind corner-cutting when it's done well, and any piecemeal nigiri I've encountered has always been molded securely. Chirashi lunch was okay but not my thing-- filling thanks to rice volume, but it doesn't sate my protein craving as much when the fish is diced so small. Tamago was pleasantly creamy... heck, raw quality is commendable enough that there isn't anything to warn you against. Vegetable tempura are pretty standard, well-drained and cooked through. Hot tea is wholesome. The few rolls I've sampled have been decent, but this is definitely the sushi joint to hit as a purist. read more

I've travelled all over the world, and consider myself a sushi connoisseur, but this is arguably the best sushi place I've ever been to. But besides that, their soups are amazing. I've never taken soups home in a doggy bag before until now. My daughter is allergic to fish, but my family loves going to this place because it has something for all of us. It is not the cheapest place, but you get what you pay for, hands down. This place has been open for only a couple years, but has quickly developed a dedicated following, so reservations are recommended. It didn't use to be open for lunch but now it is, and even lunch is busy. Parking is a piece of cake- huge parking lot. I have been coming to this restaurant for years for authentic sushi. But my last visit made me think if I will return. During my last visit, the young's chirashi deluxe that I always ordered in the past was just average. And the rolls my husband ordered also subpar. This never happened before. It seems that the restaurant either changed owner or chefs or both. The chefs behind the sushi counter were chatting (very engaged conversation in Chinese) with each other the whole time they were making sushi. While the fish was still fresh, something was missing in the final product. Maybe it's the personal touch from the chef. When you don't put your heart into making sushi, the food won't taste as good. One other thing, this restaurant was always packed before during dinner hours, but during our last visit the place was half empty when we finished our dinner around 7. Yup, still like this place. Came for dinner this time on Thursday, 3/25. I was a little sad they didn't have "bento boxes" but then again, it wasn't lunch. Like the first time, the restaurant was very busy and we had a reservation. My mom's table was again set up for us. I had a coupon for 20% off one entree so we wanted to use that. Shunko, one of the owners, came by to say hello and then our server brought over a new appetizer for us to try out. Apparently Yoshi (the other owner) was in the innovative mood and created a new dish. The appetizer was clam in a garlic sauce and nitsuke, fish cooked in shoyu. It's hard for me not to be biased cause I don't do a lot of seafood but this dish was very flavorful and tasty! I ate the whole thing! Surprisingly the dish was hot, I thought it would be a chilled dish. But in any case, if they end up serving it, I highly reccomend it. (photo) For my dinner, I ended up getting curry udon with a side of appetizer gyoza. I really enjoyed the udon; the curry sauce was like a soup and not thick like curry you'd normally get with rice. All the flavor of the curry was there; it didn't taste watered down. The gyoza was cooked perfectly and my parents and I had a discussion of how to make it crisp on the bottom and precisely steamed throughout. I can never seem to make it at home the way it's made in stores. Again, my mom got the chirashi and took half her meal home for Friday's lunch but my dad tried the Young's Chirashi which was the chef's special cuts of all the fish normally in the standard chirashi. Everything was jumbo sized. He ate everything! Too full for dessert, we ended the meal with another round of green tea, water for me, and then took off into the cold evening just as the rain started sprinkling. Alright so this place came highly recommended to me to check out for a good chirashi deal and good sushi quality overall. Now the person I spoke with did mention that it had been a while since they had ventured out here but I was content with the idea of a sushi joint not too far away from where ive been hoteling at. The joint itself is located on the corner of an intersection and parking can be kind of a pain depending on the day you go. The restaurant itself is not that big surprisingly and I would say they have 10 tables or so with a sushi counter that wraps around. The service is not bad and they are pretty quick with bringing out the food. I have come here a few times and my most recent trip I sat at the sushi counter squeezed between two people. They definitely are packing a lot of people in a tight space. I decided the best way to figure out the quality of their sushi would be to order a large variety of nigiri (ouch to wallet). The miso soup came out quickly and was fine but nothing noteworthy. I am not a big "presentation" guy but I thought it could have used work when I saw the nigiri plate and sashimi plates. The rice to sushi distribution is not the best but I understand it used to be better so maybe just a downgrade? The quality was fine but nothing notable. After a very disappointing experience at Tachibana, I was sort of doubtful of having to try another VA sushi place frankly, but this place is adorable! I made sure that more than just yelp ratings, I check out the yelp trend as well and it seemed like this place had managed to consistently keep their ratings up - so i plunged headlong into it! We started with the spicy tuna salad which came as a heaping bowl of really fresh fish, and crispy nori. I am glad I was sharing it, because having the whole thing by myself would have been some task! Next came the miso soup and the salad. The salad looked the usual limp sad thing, but the dressing they used was amazing! Not a big fan of the miso- it was way too salty for me! We also had the albacore sashimi which was very fresh, though the knife skills left a LOT to be desired, it really did look like my piece of fish had been hacked with a chainsaw - lol Then came the rolls - in order of my favorites, lol! The New cucumber roll - The best of the lot, though the cucumber wrap had not been cut out very neatly, the roll itself was pretty amazing - right amount of spice and taste and really fresh fish! Tim Tim Roll - The texture of the crunch was the best! This was also my friend's fav roll! Yellow Roll - The mango gave it a burst of fresh flavor, that went very well with the salmon Mark Roll - The black Sesame seeds made for great texture, but each piece was HUMONGOUS! When I first heard the name of this restaurant, I knew that I really wanted to try this place out because it reminded me of the famous Nintendo character - Yoshi! It came with an assortment of raw fish and a bowl of rice with all these delicious fixings. The sashimi was cut super thick and tasted fresh. It was perfect to eat with the bowl of rice. In the rice there was pickled gingers, pickled radishes, beef boiled in sweet soy sauce, shrimp, seaweed, an assortment of vegetables, eggs, and so much more. The flavor of the rice was perfect with the sashimi. I also tried their tempura green tea ice cream. This was a fried ice cream. It had the perfect amount of batter and ice cream. Make reservations on the weekend! This place gets the packed. Authentic sushi in vienna Chirashi bowl is always a great choice. Good portion of sashimi Yellow tail jaw is a hunk of juicy meat. Make sure to add in the radish and red seasoning into the ponzu sauce. Sashimi deluxe is standard.. But I still think chirashi bowl is a better value. read more

I just got here in the US from the Philippines and food there is amazing. Me and my hubby got high standards when it comes to asian food! And when I got here he made sure to bring me to his favorite restaurants with his fave food. This is one of his fave, and I can say that he really knows his food well. Spicy Tuna Salad: The texture of the tuna is soft and when u put it in ur mouth it feels like its melting but really its just blending into your tastebuds. But it doesnt stop there, the coldness of it is perfect with kick of the spice. crispy fried seaweed and a mix of herbs are also present in it. Mix it all together with the texture, taste and temp makes a good harmony in your mouth. :) Spicy Crunchy Eel & Avocado: After tasting the salad, my dear this one wouldn't disappoint. I love rolls and rice of course. Rice is rice! And that cruch in the middle with the mix of avocado and a sweet secret sauce that would haunt you in your dreams and make you drool in your sleep is AahhhhMmmaaziiingggly gooood. My hungry tummy is happy! Baby Octopus: We had a trip to Baltimore's National Museum before we got here and wierdly after seeing the Octopus climbing on the aquarium glass we craved to eat one! Savage but damn they taste good! We got a piece of this dish and it comes with pickled ginger. I am not a fan of it but I tried eating the whole thing in one bite so I include the pickled ginger in it and it tasted like fireworks in the mouth. The flavors mixing together and the texture, crunch of the octopus was heavenly. My review included an influence of hunger from walking 1.5hrs from Great Falls!
