We ordered Sushi regular combination with california roll and some nigiri, Sukiyaki（Japanese style beef hot pot）, and Tonkatsu（fried pork with panko）. All of tastes were delicous and the same as Japanese tradition. Price: 5stars. Reasonable and really balanced between taste and price. In our case, I paid $71 including tax and 20%tips. Atmosphere: 4stars. Inside was a little bit small, busy and noisy. I like this kind of atmosphere, but some people might not like. Staff: 5 stars. Tiny little place with very limited seating so if you want to get in here around the dinner hour you may want to call for a reservation. Nice and intimate with an inviting feel to the restaurant. We were greeted quickly and seated right away with our reservation we had. Server was very friendly though wasn't too familiar with gluten free. They did have gluten free soy sauce which was nice but since the menu does not specify and the server didn't know, best to stick with the sashimi. The sashimi was fresh and tasty. I love it when the fish is evenly sliced but nice meaty portions. I also had the edemame which was good. My friends had rolls and were all pleased. We ordered the rainbow roll (borderline gross), eel and avocado roll (so-so), a spicy crunchy salmon roll (pretty good), and a Vegas roll (good, but a fried food not "sushi"). After reading all the recent reviews, I'm sad to say that I agree with all the reviews regarding the service. I walked in around 5 PM on a weekday and there was nobody dining in, but they had a lot of take-out orders. I was greeted immediately, but throughout the entire meal, I felt unwelcomed and rushed. I actually worked with Chef Yoshi years back when I waitressed, and when I heard he passed away... It was truly shocking. He was such a hard working man, and he loved his family so much. This place is always full, so I generally prefer to come during the week day for dinner and sit at the sushi bar. My favorite feature of Sushi Yoshi is that they offer half roll options for most of their rolls. It gives you chance to try out a variety of rolls without filling up on a single one. I've been coming here for the chirashi for several years now. Recently, and it's not just my personal opinion (others have agreed), the quality has slipped a bit. I shared the combo platter for two with my wife today and it is kind of just okay. There was no wasabi under the sashimi in the nigiri. The sushi didn't taste as fresh as it could be. Saddens me to say this but Yoshi has unfortunately declined significantly since Covid. The quality of fish in the sashimi and nigiri is not as good, but the fish in the maki has been downright inedible the last 3 times I've gone. Well that was disappointing. I've been coming here for years. I'm like a sushi addict chasing after what this place used to be. I've noticed in the past few years the quality has been going down. I get the lack of quality of the seafood may be a global issue, therefore I forgive when a certain cut is less than good. However what bothers me is the quality of the way the fish is served. More recently (in the past year) the sashimi has been wonky. After 7 years of dining here, sad to say today will be my last visit. I ordered the Chrashi bowl. I ended up spitting out 2 of the cuts bc it was so veiny. It was all up in my teeth. Then another fish was really fishy. Sushi Yoshi has now become a regular spot when I'm in town. The sushi melts in your mouth, practically! Their happy hour prices are fantastic, especially for the taste and amount you get. The fish on the nigiri isn't skimped on at all- if anything, they're almost twice as thick as some other sushi restaurants I have been to. Their specials are also delicious- splurged on the Ponyo special ($10 for 2 bite sized pieces), but happy to have done so. The ingredients made the price for the Ponyo special reasonable (uni and toro). I'm salivating just thinking about this restaurant, especially with the amount I ordered for such good prices. Staff is friendly and serves you quickly. No complaints there. They inform you of how much you get (like the Ponyo special was only 2 pieces), so there is no surprises. Parking can be a bit of a trouble, as it's either street parking or the 5 or 6 spots they have available right behind the restaurant. There are shopping centers within walking distance, though. It gets really busy quickly, so a reservation is recommended, but they have been able to seat a table of 2 every time that I have gone. But for bigger parties, I do think a reservation would be best if you don't want to wait. But if you do, it's completely worth the wait! read more

We made reservations ahead of time, and were excited to see a quaint restaurant in downtown Vienna. The unpleasant odor of fish and seaweed permeated the restaurant and was difficult for several customers to take. The staff seemed unfazed. After thumbing through the menu, and opinions of staff, we selected several rolls and a sashimi plate. The food was served in adequate time, and the friendly staff made sure we had all we needed. The rolls were nothing spectacular. Their house Yoshi Roll had a unstimulating texture and after several bites I was unable to finish it. The Sashimi plate, with a creative appearance again ,was not eventful. Very disappointing. There were nats flying all over the dishes and one ended up in my father-in-law's Sapporo. In my never-ending quest for good, true sushi in the DC area, I stumbled upon Sushi Yoshi for a birthday party. This places serves up good sushi and reasonable prices. We started off with the shrimp and vegetable tempura - well fried, not too greasy. I had the Sashimi Deluxe - a HUGE plate of salmon, tuna, yellowtail, mackerel, seared tuna and salmon, some white tuna, a single calimari and shrimp, and a dollop of spicy tuna mash -- all thickly cut, fresh, and flavorful. My fellow diners got the chirashi, which was a GIANT bowl of sushi rice with a few mix-ins, served with a separate plate of sashimi toppings that appeared to be almost exactly the same as my Sashimi Deluxe (with a few omissions). This is not a complaint - I think the chef picks the freshest fish available that day and uses them for all the various dishes. The chirashi is big enough for two people! I stole a few bites of the chirashi and recommend it - a complex mix of vinegary sweetness and the flavors of raw fish. My only complaint would be that the folks at Sushi Yoshi appear to take great care and pride in their fresh fish offerings, yet the miso soup and wasabi was from a package and the pork dumplings appeared to be store-bought. So steer away from these distractions and focus on the fish and you'll have a sushi meal to remember. read more

Used to be my favorite sushi spot - until tonight. They have great sushi for very cheap, but the way they treat specific customers is totally unacceptable. In general they have bad/slow/rude service, but my visit this time was the worst to date. We had been waiting over 40 minutes for our food when we asked for an update on when we would be served. A few minutes later the manager came to our table, yelled at us & hinted that we should cancel our order, and walked away stating he didn't want to hear us complain about waiting. Personally I've never had such a disrespectful interaction at a restaurant before. To be very blunt I believe the manger is racist - my group was all Southeast Asian (darker skinned) - and I found all the lighter skinned customers were served on time and spoken to respectfully. One group that came after us was served before us, and was given an apology for a wrong order. Not sure where our apology was.... Won't be coming back, and we have been regulars for years. read more

Great place ! I've been to a handful of sushi places in va and this one keeps standing out in my brain. I've come here twice for lunch, once time getting the chirasho and the other for sake don. I'm a huge salmon fan so I always judge places on their salmon. It's so fresh and good both times I've been there! Even for Tuesday lunch this place is always bussling which tells me business is good! Maybe one day I'll branch out on my tastes in sushi and get something different .. till that day I'll keep ordering the same thing because I know it's good!
