I'm hooked on the chicken pad Thai. It is very easy to call in an order and it's ready by the time I get there to pick it up. Excellent food! Was a little wary getting Thai in Maine. Glad I read the reviews. Wife had the Pad Thai with Tofu. Excellent balance of sweet and savory. If they did use fish sauce we couldn't tell as it was perfectly balanced. I had the chef's special, Sole with onions and cashews. It was superb! The sole was covered in a delectable salad of cucumber/onion/tomato/cilantro and roasted cashews. It had a slightly sweet, vinegar taste that was nuanced to allow the flavors of the vegetables to shine through. I didn't want a carb loaded, rice/noodle dish and this fit the bill perfectly. We're on vacation here for only a few more days but we hope to be back! read more

I hate leaving 1 star reviews. I prefer to let it be, unless it was a really bad experience. First time eating at Sweet Angel was so terrible I have to leave a 1 star review (I wish I could leave 0 stars). Yesterday a couple of my friends and I were craving Thai food, we wanted to catch up (after finals) so we ate here. The food was decent BUT the waitress was absolutely TERRIBLE. I have no clue if she was having a bad day or what her deal was. She was by far THE WORST waitress I've ever encountered. She was rude, kept rolling her eyes at us, sighed loud enough for us to hear when she was taking our order and ignored simple requests- I asked for a glass of water 3 TIMES and she never brought it!!! The restaurant was not packed, she was not overwhelmed, she did not have to go pump water out of a well that was 5 miles away, she just could not be bothered and we were being very respectful. I finally had enough so I got up and asked someone in the kitchen for water only for Ms. Congeniality to roll her eyes at me. I've never met this individual in my life so I'm not sure why she had such a chip on her shoulder. I've been a waitress myself so her rude behavior was even more apparent to me. This could have been the best Thai food I've ever had (it wasn't), but with the unwelcoming service we received, I would NEVER set foot here again. We weren't asking for charity, we were there spending our money- which goes to her paycheck- so a little hospitality wouldn't hurt especially when it's part of your job. read more

Stopped in here based on a friends suggestion. We were bummed that the phone line was busy when we wanted to make a takeout order. (This is the only reason I have 4 stars instead of 5). I love thai noodle dishes in particular especially drunken noodles and yum woonsen or pad woonsen - the Bean thread noodles. I also love spicy dishes and well flavored eggplant . To the point that my gums should ache just a bit, because that level of spice brings out levels of flavor I can't get any other way. I ordered the glass noodle salad aka yum woonsen and spicy eggplant spiced at a 3 on the recommendation of the savvy hostess. She talked me down from a 4. Almost perfect. I should have ordered a 2.5, as the heat was a tad overwhelming. But. The flavors and textures were so wonderful and layered. Thin clear noodles with fresh tomatoes shrimp thai and holy basil onions and various spicy peppers and sour wonderful vinegars and mirin. The spicy eggplant has a complex barbecued slightly dark taste with onions and peppers to balance the inherent sweetness of the eggplant. Wonderful. It saddens me that I haven't done a review for this place yet, despite the number of times we have been there. If you aren't looking for this gem on Pleasant Street, you will certainly miss it. As you head in to Brunswick from Route 1/ Pleasant Street, look to your left and there you will find this hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant that has won our hearts. The dining area is small by local standards; there are 6 or 7 tables, none big enough to accept a group larger than 5 (with a chair pulled to the end). With only one exception, the wait staff is super prompt, often bringing water with the menus. As other reviews have stated, this unassuming establishment has food that far exceeds expectation. The wait staff is prompt, friendly, courteous, and efficient. The kitchen staff is always on top of things. The fresh rolls come with their take on a peanut sauce. It has a mild spice to it that compliments the shrimp and basil in the roll. My "go to" is always the Drunken Noodle (with protein of your choice). They ask for spiciness. The "Medium" is warm enough to heat the mouth. I have been warned against the medium hot. I always want to go authentic but the wait staff mentions that "authentic" is, in essence, the pit of Mt. Doom. They said "it hurts". On our latest visit, my wife interjected that I wanted it "Medium" instead of "medium hot". The spice was very mild at best. Still delicious to be sure, but not anywhere near what I am accustomed to. We have yet to find a dish on the menu that we don't like. The Mee-Hang Duck was particularly nice, complimenting the steamed egg noodle with a lightly cooked duck. Quite tasty. Clearly, as we have visitied multiple times before, we are fans and will continue to return. A quick tip - the dining area can be noisy if it is full (due largely to the small space). Well worth the visit and it will make you a regular. For our little area in the Mid-Coast, we have an exceedingly large number of Thai restaurants. I often forget that this tiny place is nestled in on the fast moving Pleasant Street. I had tried it out for soup on a cold day months and months ago and finally remembered I needed to have it as a date night with my husband. One a very hot July evening we entered the perfectly cooled dining area and was immediately greeted by a warm smile of the host/waitress. Looking around, we were the only patrons this Monday evening. We were seated in seats that were actually really comfy which is always a plus for me. We scanned the menu and got some ideas but was not 100%. The waitress was very helpful and was very gracious in telling my husband not to get the number 5 hot, "too hot for many people" she stated with a grin. He opted for the 3 and was ever so happy he did. He loves spicy food and he had a great glow of sweat by the time her finished. Normally I'm on the other side of New England, so I have to stop at Sweet Angel whenever I'm in Maine and get the chance. The dish that stands out, even nine months since my last meal there, is their Tom Yum broth. Really, I think any soup would be as good with this broth as the base. It had the perfect flavor, the perfect texture, the perfect weight. I didn't know broth could *be* that good. It was amazing--not sure how they got such a crispy coating to stay on a perfectly cooked fish. It was delicious and the sauce that came with it was really good---wanted to drink the stuff. I had pad thai with BBQ pork. It was some of the best I've ever had. Not at all greasy, everything very fresh and quite a generous portion. The BBQ pork had a wonderful flavor. My husband had the red curry which he devoured --it was chock full of fresh vegetables and delicious beef, just the right amount of spicy and the broth was outstanding. Sweet Angel is pretty great. The authentic dishes and curries are incredible. I like spicy, and it seems New England doesn't really get spicy. This place gets it. This is basic Thai. They're not trying to be fancy, different, or anything else, but they do a very good job. We've eaten there a number of times, and have had their take-out on several others. And, the thing we have noticed is that it is consistent. The foot is tasty, well prepared, and ample. The restaurant is in an old (really old) house, and as to the decor, there really isn't much, just a couple of posters from the Thai tourist bureau and some paper lanterns. She asked me how how 1-5. I liked some serious spice so i picked 3, and whew it made my nose run. It was packed with some wonderful heat, excellent flavor and perfectly good noodles. The crab rangoon are a must! The filling was so flavorful with the sweetness of the crab and creaminess of the cheese. There were nicely crisp on the edges and came with the perfect spicy sweet and sour dipping sauce. Where has this sauce been my whole life?! I ordered some soup for the first time. The flavor combonation of the creamy coconut and the spicyness of the broth were wonderful. I would have prefered the veggies to be chopeed smaller. They were large pieces of mushroom and tomatoe. Pros: -Food was great both times we got takeout from here. Everything is cooked and seasoned just right. -Price is right on par or even slightly lower than similar restaurants in the area. Cons: -They don't offer Massaman Curry (at least on their menu). -Takeout food is packaged in styrofoam clamshell containers. Styrofoam is basically unrecyclable and really bad for the environment. Also, they make their Pad Thai a little different than usual. It doesn't have a creamy, whitish sauce but an oily, acidic reddish sauce. The usual fish sauce flavor doesn't come through. It still tastes good, just different than the same dish from other Thai restaurants. Overall it's a good place to go. read more

Since moving back home to Maine after several years in Los Angeles, we've been looking for Thai food as good as what we could get in California. Sadly, throughout the Brunswick and Augusta regions, we were always disappointed. Until we tried Sweet Angel! Their dishes were delicious, and tasted just like those from our favorite places in LA. Sweet Angel was definitely a pleasant surprise. I've eaten at dozens and dozens of Thai restaurants across the country and at every single one I've had Tom Yum soup and I have to say that the soup at Sweet Angel was the absolute best I've ever had. For entrees we ordered Pad Thai as well as Mongolian chicken and both where outstanding. The place is nothing fancy and a little small but the food was superb and well worth the visit. Just moved up to Maine and we were seriously missing our good Thai food after a long days work(and we did not feel like cooking). After trying a couple other of the Thai restaurants in Brunswick, which was more miss than hit. We took a shot at Sweet Angel and wow the wife and I were impressed.
