Before coming here, I looked at the menu online. Reading it, made me hungry and eager to give this place a try. We were here on a weeknight around 5 p.m. The place wasn't busy, which surprised me considering I heard how popular it was. Despite it not being busy, service was uneven. When we took a look at the pitiful menu that was given to us, we immediately figured out why it wasn't busy at that time. Please take note of the following if you want to dine here: They don't offer up a complete menu until 6 p.m. and nowhere on their website does it say this. The menu that was given to us had only 3 entrees listed---chicken with a limited choice of waffles, shrimp and grits with a poached egg on top and mac & cheese. What a disappointment. I ordered chicken with waffles (no choice of hot or flavored chicken was given). For my waffles, I chose bacon and cheddar. I asked for white meat chicken and they had no problem with that. My husband ordered shrimp and grits. He asked if the poached egg could be left off the dish and was told that could be done. I had a lemonade to drink, he had a grape soda (Welch's). The chicken was just okay. It had a nice but bland coating and the wing meat was moist while the breast meat was on the dry side. The waffles were good if on the dry side. You are given a plate with 3 flavored butters---lemon, herbed and strawberry. The lemon and herb ones were good. I didn't try the strawberry. My husband said his shrimp and grits was on the spicy side but yet not too spicy. He pronounced his dish to be okay. It's a typical Manhattan restaurant in that the tables are really packed in there. We had at least 3 different servers taking care of us. When it was time to pay the check, we had to ask the host to find a server so that we could pay. I'm guessing that the chicken is much better after 6 p.m. However, I doubt we'll ever find out, given that in NYC there are so many restaurants and so little time. read more

Chicken is perfectly serviceable, Nothing to write home about. They have a bunch of sauces and types so that's pretty good. I did want to try to salted caramel bone in chicken but opted for reg and garlic honey. It was fine but a little overcooked on the inside but not anything wild. It's just really pricey for chicken that isn't as good as Chicken you can get at a Halal joint. The star here tho is the biscuit! Holy crap it's the most dense, but in the best way possible, buttery, perfectly baked biscuit I've ever had. I mean, you can miss the chicken but definitely buy an order of biscuits if you want to enjoy a carb crazy day lol. EXPERIENCE 4/5 Went a Sunday Morning so our wait was ~1 hour which was expected. It's really nice that there's a coffee place right next to it to kill the time. The server was really nice and gave us an assortment of butter (thyme, berry, and lemon). The location itself is really cute and nice as a date setting. FOOD 4/5 I shared the egg Benedict with potatoes and chicken and waffles. The eggs benedict was beautifully cooked but I personally didn't really enjoy the rich that much. The shredded chicken was really dry and didn't cut the egg very well (pork/salmon work well because they're a bit more salty.) I recommend asking for the house potatoes to be cooked well done to get them extra crispy. The chicken and waffles were amazing! One of the best I've eaten (and I've tried an assortment in LA) The winner of the dish was definitely the waffles and the syrup. I opted for the OG fried chicken sandwich and brussel sprouts. I'm guessing the goal is to have a hint of sweetness in their dishes. The brussels sprouts are made with molasses and has almonds in them. They were different from what I am used to. The chicken sandwich was also a bit sweet due to the bread and butter pickles. Looveeee this place. I made an order for a work event I was hosting and everyone from the catering coordinator Alex B., to the waitress in the Front, and the cooks saved my event. The chicken & waffles, Mac and cheese and were delicious. Great customer service and unfortunately my bad broke in the front before I got in my cab and the staff helped me load my food into the car. Had the chicken and waffles with a Nashville hot boost; it had a perfect hint of extra kick without inducing tears. The drumstick and thigh pieces had perfectly crispy skins without excessive batter, with the dark meat having sublime moistness. GRAPE DRANK It was actually Welch's grape soda so it was more like the champagne of grape drank. Chicken n' Waffles. Putting bacon in the waffles elevates it. The chicken is crispy, mildly seasoned and pretty moist for white meat. My family would have put the hot sauce that's left on the table all over everything. It's a good portion. I was stuffed at the end. My broseph Phil had the amazing looking catfish with the stem-less collard greens. Let me communicate to you how damn important stem-less collards are. If your grandma was from the South, them greens wouldn't have a single stem in them. So for one, they're not coming out of a can. Secondly, they will be finely chopped... no honkin' bits to choke down. Third, they will also have a protein in them for flavor. Fourth, NO SUGAR IN THE GREENS! EVER! Check, check, check and CHECK. Southern Grandma approved. Now all that said, my grandma would have put some cornbread on the poor boy's plate, but that's just how my family rolls. Very long overdue review but once I realized I didn't review it I knew I had to! My friend has raved about this place for a while now. She travels frequently from Miami to New York and every time she goes she has to stop by Sweet Chick. I got tired of hearing her talk about it so I was going to make it a "go to" next time I was in New York. The outside looks small and of course when we went there was a line outside and a 45 minute wait which is understandable being so that it was 11am Sunday morning. There's a CVS down the street so we killed time so the wait wasn't as bad. Once we made it inside, this is the cutest place ever. the decor is so cute and all the tables have decorative flowers on them. Although it's not a huge place, the tables are set out to where enough people fit and you don't fee suffocated by the table next to you. Our waitress was so sweet. we told her it was our first time here and she explained the menu and drinks and gave us suggestions. HERE'S THE FUN STUFF * Eggs Benny - Eggs Benedict on Biscuits w/ Shredded Smoked Chicken, Smoked Ham, Hollandaise sauce, Home style potatoes. I had a mini freak out about coming here after watching David Chang's Ugly Delicious and him criticizing the gentrification of soul food BUT did you know Sweet Chick was co-owned by NAS?!????? In my opinion, the portions are generous. I never think I'm going to be full but I leave stuffed. The fried chicken is good and simple. However, the waffles always leave me SPEECHLESS. I'VE NEVER HAD WAFFLES SO PERFECTLY MADE. SLIGHTLY CRISPY ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT OH SO SOFT ON THE INSIDE. Their chicken and waffles are one of a kind. The creativity put into the flavors of these waffles (and there are seasonal flavors!!) are the most unique waffles I've ever had in my life. My second visit to a Sweet Chick after previously eating at the location in LIC. I got lunch with my girlfriend and her father. They were serving the brunch menu, so we picked a few things to share. My girlfriend and I split a breakfast burrito, which had previously been quite good at the other location. This time, the burrito was smaller, with way less chicken. Big disappointment, as the chicken is tasty here. The side of mac and cheese also fell flat. Not worth the $11 price tag. I also got to try the pancakes, which were decent. My recent visit to the Lower East Side location was lackluster to my previous experiences. My date and I attended last weekend for the first time in about two years. We noticed that the music was louder than usual in addition to the change in table arrangements. Normally, we would be attended to by a host/hostess, but noticed the bar/counter with employees behind it. We then asked about seating and was told we can sit anywhere and that there are no menus. In addition, we were told that we can either order there at the counter or scan the QR code on the table with our cellphones and our order will be brought to our table. We decided to sit in the back for the first time as we saw that our usual table for two in the front was now replaced by a breakfast bar by the window. As we sat down in the back corner, another customer came in with their party and a dog. This was a great displeasure as we did not want to be affected by a dog by any means while we are eating. We started wondering, why are dogs allowed inside a restaurant? This particular dog was surely not a service dog. So, we decided to move to another table near a big air blowing/cooling mechanism. With the loud music and the air blowing, my date and I had to raise our voices a bit in order for us to hear each other. We began to order our food via cellphone and wanted a hot beverage as we had this when we visited before. The menu had no hot beverages, which was disappointing. So we ordered a soda and sparkling water. My date asked about getting hot beverages at the counter and he was told by an employee that the coffee/tea machine/maker was broken. We both thought, really?! How is it that this establishment can't afford to have more than one coffee/tea maker or at least have a replacement? Once our food arrived, part of our order was incorrect in that my date ordered white meat and was given dark meat. No worries. We informed the server, he took the plate back and said he will notify the chef. The chef came out to us and confirmed the order. Within minutes, my date received the white meat. As we were enjoying our food, there was a group of hecklers seated adjacent to our table. They were super loud and spewing a lot of profanity. Sweet Chick employees walked back and forth and did nothing. As we saw this, we were reluctant to voice our gripe as it appears to be the norm in this establishment. We definitely enjoyed our food. It was done just right. However, this was not an enjoyable experience as the other visits we had here were. The impersonable approach is not what we are used to and we are sad this Sweet Chick on the Lower East Side decided to go this route. I was told by my loved one who had recommended this location a couple of years back, that the Los Angeles, CA location is so much better. They also did a recent visit to the Lower East Side and mentioned their displeasures with the changes. During my New York adventure my friends and I decided on a brunch spot. Imagine out surprise when we arrived and the spot was close. My friend suggested Sweet Chick so on we went. We got there around 1:00ish and the place was packed. The host told us it would be about a 45 minute wait. Thankfully we were called in much sooner. The menu had such delicious options I had a hard time choosing and ultimately chose the Eggs Benny & a Peach Bellini. I see why the Eggs Benny are a popular dish. The chicken and ham with the biscuit was so gooood and the home fries were perfect. $12 peach Bellini i definitely gave it the side eye but listen after one glass I was feeling good. The hostess says "there was about a 20-30 minute wait for a table for two" which is fine. She takes my phone number and lets me know I will receive a text when my table is available.... So there is a bench right outside see my daughter and I went and had a seat on the bunch. About 15 minutes later I get a text saying "my table is ready". Perfect!!! So I walk in and two other parties of two that are in front of me have received a text message also that their table is ready. Which is fine... So the hostess asks the first party would you like to seat here it here. They say there... Then she gives the second party the same option!! So finally she gets to my daughter and I and doesn't even give us the option of choosing. I was instantly annoyed because the table she took us to was right next to the kitchen. Obviously she could see we had bags. And knowing that the tables as well as the restaurant space is so small. I would have thought she would have realized it would have been smarter to put us near the window which she had offered that option to the two parties before us. So here we are with bags at this squashed up table with no room. Not only was it uncomfortable for us but I am sure it was uncomfortable for the people who we were wishing next to. The tables were Jammed right next to each other. With just a dab of breathing room. I was annoyed. Not only was it and uncomfortable sitting situation, being near the kitchen was horrible. I'm here with this bags that can barley go under the table. Then I have waiters coming in and out the kitchen every 5 seconds with food do I have to keep making sure my bags are squeezed under the table. It was just a mess. Which could have been avoided if the hostess gave us the same seating options as she gave the two parties before us!!! The only thing that made me give this place three stars at least. Was the fact that the waiter was very nice. He made sure I always had everything I needed quick and fast. One thing that got me is when I asked for a refill on tea. He did bring the tea back with the same tea bag just more hot water I mean we will need a new tea bag... I know that was just a honest mistake. But other than that he was amazing and I appreciated his service!!! The food was delicious I had the chicken and waffle. Which was very good along with the Mac and cheese. Maybe the syrup they offered was too rich for my pallet because I didn't like the flavor. However, the waffles already had a sweet flavor that I enjoyed. So I didn't really need the syrup anyway. My daughter did enjoy her food also. She had the bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a hamburger bun. She didn't know the egg would be sunny side up and I didn't check behind her on the menu to notice. She said "it was not bad though". We both enjoyed the home fries that came with her sandwich. So much so that we ordered another side. Kale BLT [7/10]: We tried to be live healthy and there were only two salads on the menu ;) We had the Kale BLT, which was basically kale and bacon topped with light sauce. So... I was supposed to be on a diet. But I was in the vicinity for a storytelling jam at @caveatnyc and Sweet Chick was in the vicinity... so we ended up here for dinner goddammit. Their dinner menu is the main draw for me, with chicken and waffles fused with different cuisines. For example, they have a Chinese version (general tso's fried chicken) and Italian (chicken parm). I cannot stress enough how amazing this place is. I love the vibe of it, and its super easy to order takeout. Firstly, their biscuits. So buttery and flakey. 10/10. They also make their own jam! Their fried chicken is also amazing and they have an abundance of flavors. One of my favorite things is their fried fish, its so tender and the breading is so light and crispy.
