Sweetsalt is a great lunch option in the Toluca Lake area. My go-to is to build my own salad, they have great salads. I used to really love the prosciutto and fig sandwich but I haven't tried it since they changed it to iberico ham. It's a big spot and usually pretty accessible. The owners did a lovely job on this beautifully remodeled space. Before they had beer and wine, we ate lunch there and it was delicious and now they are open for dinner with a beautifully curated wine list by the very experienced and knowledgeable Brad Rosen. The food is innovative and delicious. I had the salmon with a pistachio sauced fettuccine and my companions' both had the short rib, which was melt in your mouth delicious. but beware it is very rich. We are saving the woodfired pizza and cozy wine bar for our next visit. dessert was a nicely prepared Affogoto, the rest of the menu also looked interesting. The menu prices are in line with a good restaurant. There is some parking behind the space. Reservations can be made online, they don't use OpenTable, but use a good option. They still have some minor issues to work out, most notably professional service. On our 6pm visit there were two servers. Our server seemed hesitant and not quite up on the menu. Perhaps she was busy, although the restaurant was not nearly half full, but it took a while for her to pick up the white wine and as a result, it was warm. The second server, who we recognized from Vitello's, served the table next to us and seemed far more attentive. Our companion has a severe gluten allergy, and while there were options, a gluten free pasta and pizza would have been greatly appreciated. They also might want to rethink the eight dollar cost of the very tiny baguette, it did come with some nice garlic butter. but was a little chewy for our taste. Sadly we visited on a hot day and their A/C was not up to the task, but all in all we recommend this restaurant and anticipate some of these issues to be worked out with time. read more

Went here for dinner the other night. Really great food and the atmosphere was so nice. The service was great as well, waters were never empty, staff was super kind and helpful if we had questions. Got the salame pizza (highly recommend if you like spicier foods), fennel sausage pizza, salmon with pesto pasta, and roasted broccoli. Everything was great! Tiramisu and the coconut cake for dessert were also very good. I didn't see many reviews on here for their dinner menu. I think it's relatively new but don't let that deter you! Went here for brunch last weekend and was very disappointed. How can you mess up a Caesar salad THIS BAD. The chicken seemed like it was taken directly from a bag of frozen chicken from the store. It was extremely dry and flavorless. The Caesar dressing was mediocre and nothing special and was barely covering half of the salad. The rest of the people's food looked bland and they said it was below average as well. The salmon salad was very bad. The photo on their website is not what you get. This was the "chilled salmon with haricot vert" salad and instead of a nice piece of salmon on top like the photo of their website, it was all chopped up and mixed in and and it made the whole salad taste fishy. It was not described as "chopped" on the menu and should have been. Perhaps the salmon itself wasn't good quality and that's why it tasted fishy, but it was hard to tell the quality because it was in very tiny little pieces. Very disappointing. I used to love Sweetsalt. Something changed when they moved. Some items are no more, like my favorite cinnamon sugar baked donut which they always so nicely offered to warm up for me. But my biggest complaint is the food has been really disappointing. The amount of ingredients is far less and too little for the price. One example is the shrimp po' boy. I think the whole sandwich maybe had two shrimp that they sliced up so they could spread it across the sandwich. It was mostly bread. I can see where they are going with this sandwich and if done with whole shrimp I think it could be really great. Other dishes I have tried didn't have much flavor. Very bland. The most recent one was the Chicken Almond Salad. I think the mint, celery and almonds were missing, or so lacking there was no trace of them. There were I only a few pieces of chicken. It just felt like a bowl of lettuce. Dressing incredibly light and didn't have much flavor. Maybe I am ordering the wrong things for my tastes and expectations, but I can't seem to find anything I really like or feel is worth it for the cost. Again, I want to like Sweetsalt! I used to! My husband and I would come here every week at least once, but now we are searching for a different go to spot. I don't know what changed in the move, but I hope they make some improvements so I can feel excited about going here again. The service is five stars! I want to like Sweetsalt it's in my neighborhood and it's in a new location and looks great. But, I've tried it four times and it's always a little disappointing. We sit outside so there's no service you get your own drinks and order food inside. So no one cleans the tables unless asked. We're tried several items and the grilled cheese and tomato soup was good. The turkey sandwich was so salty and the bread was so crumbly we left most of it. The shrimp sandwich wasn't good, it was dry and had too much bread and breading on shrimp. So overall it a nice place to sit and have coffee, but it's too expensive and not that good for lunch. read more

There was supposed to be aioli sauce but there wasn't very much. The passion tea just tasted like black tea. They left out the mint (which makes the salad) and the chicken was sparse--only a few small pieces. Tried to flag down my server to get mint, but couldn't. You order and pay at the counter, find a table, and then they bring you your food. We ordered the truffle chicken sandwich, and the quinoa and kale salad, with salmon as the protein. I kid you not, the truffle chicken sandwich was one of the best sandwiches Ive ever eaten. The salad was good as well - subtle (which is my thing). The only thing I didn't like is you have to add money for any kind of protein. In this case it was an extra $6 for the salmon. The husband and I devoured everything. I have eaten at this restaurant for years. The portions used to be generous, the prices were affordable. This has changed in 2024. I recently got the turkey sandwich and it has probably 1/4 of the amount of meat on it and now cost approximately eight dollars Moore. $22 for a turkey avocado sandwich is overboard, and I have gone from weekly orders there to rarely ever ordering. First time to Sweetsalt! I came to the reopening mainly because Frank Bonventre, former head pastry chef for Wolfgang Puck, the Oscars, and Joan's on Third, is now the new pastry chef!! I was excited...Mr. Bonventre is a legend in Los Angeles and Sweetsalt had become a go to place for breakfast (they serve it with a salad side!!!) and lunch. Gorgeous place...who knew the this old building in Toluca had such great bone!!!??!! Service was great and friendly...and the food...OMG (I had the lettuce cups, flourless chocolate cake, breakfast muffins). It was soooo delicious and reasonably priced... Such a great meeting place. Sweetsalt is a decent sandwich and salad lunch place that makes regular appearances in our work lunch take-out rotation. It's neither the least nor the most exciting spot on that list. I've tried several of the sandwiches and have liked them all fine, though none so much that I look forward to ordering them again. The best one is probably the shrimp po' boy, which comes with Cajun-seasoned shrimp, chimichurri, crumbled chips, cayenne aioli, lettuce, and tomato on ciabatta. I've also enjoyed the steak and brie, with grass-fed steak, chimichurri, brie, roasted garlic purée, arugula, and braised onion on ciabatta; as well as the vaca frita, with citrus-marinated pulled flank steak, red onion, avocado, white cheddar, gruyere, and gouda on ciabatta. Yesterday, I had the new buffalo chicken BLT, and this was pretty tasty, with buffalo hot sauced chicken, mozzarella, bacon, lettuce, and tomato, on sourdough. Nothing wrong with a spicy chicken sandwich. The sandwiches all come with a pointless side salad, limp leaves that get squashed in transit, served with some green dressing. I should remember to order this off next time, as it usually goes straight in the trash. I have been fine with the one entrée salad I ordered, though, a solid chicken almond salad with chopped chicken, celery, onion, mint, almonds, lemon zest, tomatoes, romaine, and almond dressing. I doubt I'll ever visit Sweetsalt in person, but it's an okay place to get a boxed lunch to eat at my desk. My wife and I have visited this location several times. We have always enjoyed it. The staff is always friendly, welcoming and helpful in answering menu questions. You never feel rushed at the counter. In all the times we have visited the food has been consistently good. Fresh, tasty and a decent portion size. The coffee is very good and full of flavor. I personally enjoy the Nitro cold brew that they serve. They have great menu selections and something for everyone. The location is a pet friendly establishment and have several tables outside to sit with your four legged friend. I enjoy the Micro-greens omelet and my wife has had the avocado toast several times and has enjoyed it each time. The inside is clean and welcoming with ample seating at tables as well as booths. Ended up with a hot mocha & a blueberry scone. Both items were the best I've EVER had in my whole entire life, and believe me when i say I've had more than my fair share of mochas & blueberry scones. The mocha was just the right amount of frothy, creamy & chocolate. Not over the top sweet like drinking syrup at most other places. It was chocolate enhanced coffee the way it should be. Tasted like real chocolate, not some artificially sweetened mix. My blueberry scone had huge ripened fresh blueberries & the cake part was fresh & moist. New post: Sweet Salt like many local restaurants has become a hybrid grocery, selling ingredients like eggs and dry pasta. They are charging $1/ egg however. This seems like a case of price gouging and should be reported. Earlier post: Overall I like this place..great food, desserts, and friendly staff. This place used to have the most incredible food and the great vibe in over the years I've noticed the food is sort of mediocre. Plus they became quite popular, which is great but at the same time other things were then lacking. I noticed things picked up again the last 5-6 months meaning better food, bette service and more smiling faces on the staff ..... There's one lady I believe who's the manager with short hair who never smiles, and somewhat comes across as if she's irritated that you ask her any questions. I've met a few people tell me that she's just downright unfriendly. I don't know if she still works there, But she doesn't enhance the experience that much.
