Tonight we had our first meal at Sweetsalt. From start to finish we were really happy we finally made it over to Toluca Lake to give it a try. We wanted a healthier starter, so we opted to share the pear & pomegranate salad. It was perfectly balanced with the creaminess of the goat cheese, the bitterness of the arugula, and the sweetness of the fruit. Basically, just perfect. For our entrees, we had the mushroom pasta and the pan seared chicken. The pasta was the perfect density and wasn't swimming in sauce; very well balanced. The artichoke caponata on the chicken caught us off guard because we weren't expecting it to be tomato based. We got past our initial surprise and thoroughly enjoyed both entries. We finished off by taking some fresh macaroons home for dessert. Throughout our meal, our server (Lulu, on the receipt) was exceptionally knowledgeable about the menu, helped us make the right decisions, and was attentive without being disruptive. read more

Nice, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff can't make up for mediocre food, high prices (like everywhere, sadly) and, many may find, limited menu choices. Had the chicken pesto sandwich which was pretty tasteless and only average size for $15 (side salad was some mixed spring greens with maybe a drop of dressing. Would a cucumber or a coupla red onion strips have killed them?) My co-diners had a barely-there duck sandwich and the chicken champagne salad (I ate some too, it was dull and light on chicken). Won't return but I hope they improve because it's a pretty huge space. So many better places to eat in this neighborhood. Sorry, folks. read more

I came here for brunch with my friends and it was delicious. It was a solid 4 stars experience. When you first arrive, you place an order at the register and then find your seat. This place was busy for a Sunday morning. I had a non fat lavender vanilla latte and that was delicious. You really taste the lavender in it. I place an order before my friends and somehow I was the last person to receive my food, so that was kind of annoying. I ordered the Chicken Pesto Sandwich and it came with a side salad. It was a simple sandwich, but yet it was pretty tasty. I also ordered the Avocado Toast and holy moly it was loaded with sprouts, so if you're a fan of sprouts, then this is for you. I barely tasted the avocados. I also had a sea salt brownie and that was really delicious. It was soft, moist and creamy with the sea salt. My friends all seemed to enjoy their food as well. I was craving a BLT so my husband and I came across this little gem in Toluca Lake as it is near our favorite sushi spot - Yuzu down the street. We liked the location and the decor was hipster and cute. I gave this place 3 stars because it was just average for me. The food was good but not something I could rave about. The downside was that it was a bit pricey. We got two dishes and a club soda and our order cost over $30 for lunch. My husband got the Kale Tacos which were delicious and I got a BLT which was so so. I could say it was on the heavier side and the sharp cheddar that was melted on the ciabatta bread was a major miss for me. The salad that accompanied our food had a creamy dressing which was unfortunately pretty overpowering and not the most fitting. I believe a lighter dressing would have been much more compatible with all the dishes versus a creamy one - just saying. It was a cute place that we wouldn't mind returning to try some other menu items so overall I would say it was not a bad spot to try out. read more

Super cute cafe with some outdoor seating and an elegant sandwich, salad, and coffee menu. My wife and I love to try new places so, we decided to try Sweetsalt. She got the duck confit sandwich and I got the chicken truffle sanwich. We both got lavender vanilla lattes. There are several types of milks on the menu but I got 2% with my latte and it was yummy! My chicken truffle sandwich was on fresh ciabatta bread and the truffle oil flavor really came through with tender pieces of chicken. This was our first dining experience since the quarantine and it was lovely.. We sat outside far enough away from other people and enjoyed our lunch on a beautiful day. read more

Saddest latte I've had in a long time. Ordered the Mexican Mocha to go, was excited for the espresso and the Mexican chocolate. It tasted like watered down warm milk-- there was a hint of espresso flavor at the edges, but there was clearly not a shot of espresso anywhere to be found. Likewise there was a hint of chocolate in the watery foamed milk, but that was it, spiced or otherwise. I came home and made a shot of espresso and poured it in, but what a bummer. I was in the car driving away before I tasted it, otherwise I would've asked for a re-do. But while I was waiting for my faint echo of a latte, I witnessed a member of the staff kindly help a little girl who wanted banana bread but was allergic to peanuts-- the kid was a sweet little bunny rabbit and the guy helping her was so patient and thoughtful in making sure what she chose wouldn't kill her-- so three stars for that guy, but heck: Get the banana bread and skip the coffee, that's what I learned. read more

Servers and atmosphere are nice. Clean inside, but obviously still finding their way. Looks like they are installing a Pizza Oven for future use. On a cold day the Heater was obviously nonfunctioning, or the temps were set in the low 60's. Tomato bisque and Grilled Cheese were unimpressive... Soup barely warm with overabundance of Basil flavor, and the grilled cheese was actually cold, with a giant, solidified glob of cheese starting to dry out, along with overtoasted, bone dry bread (think cut the roof of your mouth while eating). Serrano Ham and Fig sandwich was OK, but unimpressive. The ham was stuck all together like it was pressed, and way too much fig dressing overwhelmed the sandwich. Bread was good. Presentation and assembly can be SO MUCH better! Overall, I think this place has potential and hope they take the feedback seriously. Willing to give it one more chance in a few months, but going to steer clear for a while until they figure it out. Best of luck to this place! read more

Someone I knew wanted to meet here, this was my first visit. Typical LA, if it looks good on the outside, wannabes flock to it. You can't shine up a turd; put a ribbon on it and call it gourmet. This place is a far cry from a Joan's on 3rd. The food was TASTELESS (took one bite and that was that) OVER PRICED. Dirty dining experience, flies where all over the restaurant, dirty menus with coffee stains and filthy restrooms. If they care less about cleanliness, I can only imagine the kitchen and if they wash their hands. I don't care for DIRTY trendy spots that is way over priced for something you could get at Denny's or Soup Plantation (which would be a much better experience). I've been here twice and each time I liked it more than the last time. Sweet salt is located in a very busy area since it's very close to Disney, NBC and Warner Bros studios, not to mention every other well known business towers in Burbank. It's safe to say you'll have some challenges finding a near by parking spot. But there are always people coming and going. A couple of loops around will guarantee a spot. I first came here because someone suggested I get the Champagne Chicken Sandwich. When I first walked in I noticed the great and simple lay out of the restaurant. They have benches to the left of the restaurant along with wooden chairs and comfortable pillows. They have hanging plates from the back wall which I thought was a unique touch. The open kitchen is always a pleasure to see at a restaurant, since it keeps us all entertained Per my recommendation I ordered the Champagne Chicken Sandwich and it was mouth watering delicious! It's got everything one loves in a sandwich: fresh grilled chicken, fresh greens, olives, tomatoes, and a very delicious champagne dressing between Ciabatta bread which is my favorite. My second time here, I decided to go with a salad. I let the women behind the register know what I had ordered my previous time there and she told me that they have the same thing in Salad version. You could imagine my excitement!! I placed my order, got my number and found a table near the open kitchen window. After just a few minutes I was shocked to see my Champagne Chicken Salad come out. I had never had an order delivered out that fast. I thought I got lucky that day but then I noticed that their overall service is fast. It was very nice touch! My salad was exactly how my sandwich was the previous time, but lighten since there was no bread. It was so fresh and so tasty. The olive and the cucumbers made the salad so refreshing and delicious. My sister's friend brought her and me to Sweetsalt for a late lunch on a Friday. She lives around the area and eats there often. We walked in, ordered at the counter, and found seats. There was plenty of tables open at this time. Overall, the food was good and would go again to try other plates on the menu! PARKING: You can find street and residential parking. This is my first time exploring Burbank and I was surprised at how much free parking there was! STEAK AND BRIE SANDWICH: I ordered this sandwich and it was pretty good! The steak was tender and the brie cheese was perfectly melted and combined great with everything. The ciabatta bread was very soft, however, it was pretty thick so it was harder to eat and the ratio of meat to bread was a bit off for my taste. Would recommend! SHRIMP PO' BOY SANDWICH: My sister ordered this sandwich and she said it is a "modern take on a po' boy and definitely not what you would normally find in New Orleans." This sandwich was a healthier take on what a normal po' boy sandwich would taste. The shrimp was pan fried without breading or being fried. The crunchiness of the breading was replaced with potato chips. The shrimp didn't taste as fresh as it could've been. I hate to say it, but this place needs work right now. I've been here a couple of times before and my experience has been fine and the food tasted great. This time, I called to place an order for take-out for lunch. The female that I talked to was not very pleasant on the phone. After I placed my order with her, all she said was "It'll be ready in 15-20" *CLICK*. When I got there, I told the person at the register that I was picking up my order. "$28.27" *slides card* *gets food* *prints receipt* *no other exchange with customer*. Let's get to the food. I got the Prosciutto and Fig sandwich and oh my gawd did that tear my mouth up. The baguette was stale and totally scraped the inside of the mouth. i couldn't even bite through. I ended up just taking the prosciutto out of the sandwich and eating it separately with my side of mixed greens. I've had other sandwiches here and they were decent. If the hash was precooked with those peppers I should have been told and would have ordered differently. The toast I could have tossed on the floor and it would have crumbled as if it was toasted yesterday for a stuffing dish today. The toast was stale. The butter was cold. 23.00 with tax and tip. They're moving into the Honeybaked Ham space next year. I won't be going. I could have had an equally bad breakfast at Patty's or Bob's Big Boy. At least the toast would have been warm. read more

Revising my Sweetsalt review because they truly bring happiness to my neighborhood. Such a comfortable little place to grab a coffee and a pastry. The vanilla latte is simple but so good! I recommend the sun dried tomato quiche or the ham and cheese croissant (which you'll have to fight me for -- they sometimes run out early!). I'm going to give a lot of caveats on this review: I didn't have a full breakfast here (my friend did, and it looked amazing), and I really was looking at a pastry and a tea for our outdoor hangout. First, the positives: for a midweek, mid-morning hang, there were plenty of tables out front for a COVID-safe meeting. The staff was pleasant and friendly, and I got my food and beverage quickly. Pastries were individually wrapped, which made for safer handling. Ambience was calm, everything was clean, and staff was efficient. Even while outdoors in front, we had a pleasant person coming by to pick up dishes after we'd finished. Unfortunately, the almond croissant I had was unlike any croissant I've ever eaten: it was cakey, dense, and flavorless. I was incredibly disappointed, but I enjoyed the company and the jasmine tea. Would I return here for a full breakfast? Yes; the brunch my friend got looked healthy and plentiful, with lots of veggies and not too greasy. Next time, Sweetsalt! Was looking for a cute brunch place after hiking near the Hollywood Hills. This has been on my bookmarks for awhile but it fell short for me. FOOD Truffled Egg Sandwich (4 stars): I do recommend this sandwich if you come here. Flavorful and everything worked well together. Bread could be better. Breakfast Sandwich Ciabatta (3 stars): A little plain. If you have a sandwich with minimal ingredients your bread needs to shine and this ciabatta did not. It was a bit hard and thick, didn't taste very fresh so I don't think they make the bread in house. Bacon was good though. If they had better bread the sandwiches would be a lot better. Amazing Chocolate Chip Cookie (2 stars): Just take out the "Amazing" in the name please. I was super excited for this and then ended up not eating it since it wasn't worth the calories, haha. I'm a big cookie person so I guess I'm extra picky with cookies. It was too cake like. We had them warm it up so it was softer but it just wasn't great. I tried to do the same thing another day, but no. I would be pulled into the tractor beam of the Breakfast Hash. I had to sit down. Reverence came into play. This is a dish that requires your total attention. Optically it's beautiful. You pause. You look around. Well, after you've taken a picture. Yelpers need to do what they do. And then, after Base Camp is set up, you cut into the 2 perfectly cooked eggs on top and that yolk flows. Ohh.. should I Instagram, Snapchat or Pinterest this? No! Eat it. And you do. It was a beautiful Sunday morning today and we decided to go out and grab some breakfast. I've past this spot before and decided to try it. Parking was easy, there was a lot of street parking available. When we walked in there was only a few people in line which went by quickly. Looking at the menu, there were plenty of gluten free options as well as regular options which is very useful for those with restricted diets. We ended up ordering the Two Eggs Breakfast and the Breakfast Burrito, both pictured. The food came promptly and it was delicious! My bacon was cooked to perfection. The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is because when I asked to substitute the bread for another side they said they didn't do substitutions. I've been hearing a lot about SweetSalt, and since I am new to the neighborhood - I need a new spot to meet with my friends and colleagues in the neighborhood. I was reunited with one of my best girlfriends for the first time in two months, and we decided to meet here. I got there early, a little bit before lunchtime and it wasn't very busy so I snagged us a great seat right by the window so we could people watch. I ordered a black coffee and my girlfriend got a latte while we sat and waited for our food. She ordered a customized quinoa bowl and I ordered a customized salad. I choose to add salmon, avocado, and a few different vegetables to mine as well. The avocado was an up charge (of course) but since there is a Cali avocado drought-currently there was a sign saying there was a $2 upcharge on upcharge. My girlfriend added a few things like duck and a few other vegetables. Altogether it came out to be over $50. I don't think we realize that it was charging us by the vegetable. Either way, it was definitely worth the money because it was fresh and delicious, the service was good and the food came out very quickly. I took a peak at the breakfast menu and it looked delicious. When I go back, I definitely want to try that! It's located in a pretty busy area but there is street parking available all over the place. Stumbling on Yelp my sister found this little gem, located near the WB studios (#teamcoco). We walk in and are immediately greeted by the kind patrons behind the counter. The space is a little small, but have "reserved" signs on the table for parties of 6 or more (how convenient). Water and Ice tea (w/purchase) are located on a side table near the restrooms; all you can drink! The kitchen is in plain sight and so are the delicious sweets! The menu had many options with delicious and healthy meals (please see my pics). The salmon was cooked to perfection, highly recommended if you enjoy fresh seafood! The sweets, one word: DELICIOUS! I had brunch here the other day with my homegirl. Even though the food is average, the location is great for catching up with a friend. The noise volume wasn't too loud. I tried their breakfast burrito and my friend had the walnut, pear, goat cheese, pomegranate salad. Hers was tastier than mine. Plenty of parking in the area too. I was in the area waiting for my class to start and was looking for a place where I could have a complex carb meal for dinner and Sweetsalt came up under my search for quinoa on my Yelp app. It looked good and was somewhat on the way to campus in Burbank coming from Studio City so I thought I'd go ahead and give this place a shot which can always be iffy given my schedule and limitation as to what I can and can't have for dinner. It was somewhat empty inside and I wasn't sure if that was a good sign but decided to eat something since I was here so I was directed to a table by a guy up front and proceeded to purview the menu. They looked like they had some really good stuff and I really wanted a burger but my waitress informed me that they used brioche bread, which would be great, but I needed to have complex carbs for dinner. I was almost going to settle for a lettuce wrapped burger but since this was my carb meal, I didn't really want to do that. Then I spied something called the Spicy Quinoa and Salmon Salad. A quick scan of the ingredients and it looked like the only thing I couldn't have was the feta cheese so I decided to order that sans the cheese. When my plate came out, it was really lucious looking! After one bite, I was hooked and oohing and aahing after each bite because it was so delicious!! The salmon was cooked perfectly and was moist and had a really nice flavor. The mixture of the cucumbers, tomatoes, arugula, olives, parsley and specks of serrano peppers, which gave the dish a slight bite to it in a subtle way, was absolutely out of control! I love this dish!! After devouring my plate, I asked to see the breakfast menu as well as the weekend menu and there were a lot of great plates on it that I knew I had to come back on a weekend to have breakfast here sometime soon. Sweetsalt is awesome! The ambiance is comfortable and they even have picnic tables inside as well as on the sidewalk for al fresco dining. I'm definitely going to be coming back here again and if I come on the weekend during my Fun Day, I look forward to trying some of the desserts they have such as the macarons, pies and cakes along with some coffee. I would have given them 5 stars but the waitress didn't seem to want to be there and wasn't as attentive as I think she could or should have been. In fact, the guy up front was the one who finally delivered my plate to my table after I waited about 10 minutes for my order. Although, I didn't mind the wait too much because it told me that they were preparing my dish fresh which I appreciated. Besides the iffy service, I'm really glad I stopped by here because I've this is a great place to dine on some scrumptiously-tasting healthy cuisine! My wife recently told her friends that I'm a "serial yelp reviewer...who knew?" That sort of sounds... a little scary... and perhaps needy, obsessive and slightly... cool? My yelp friend, Valerie C. barely mentioned Sweetsalt and I was there the next day, stalking the place with uncommon interest. Just call me the Dexter of restaurant reviews... or maybe Kexter? The short rib sandwich was, as they say, "killer" and the turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich was equally to "die for". The bacon in the latter sandwich, was "perfect" bacon. Bacon perfection for the bacon-obsessed. Crispy, meaty, flavorful, divine (in a cooked pig kind of way). I've got my eyes on you bacon! A friend if mine told me Sweetsalt was a must try if I ever was out in the valley. Well, today was the day as I had an appointment out that way so we ventured out early so I could finally check this place out. Arrived about 1pm on a Wednesday and the place was PACKED! Every table inside and outside was filled and people were even waiting with order numbers in hand for a seat. The line to order was even longer! Probably an easy 15 deep when we walked in. And that is a lot as this place is snug as a bug in a rug. The line to order moved fast as people did their lunch homework while waiting. The menu consists of sandwiches, salads, soups and an array of pastries are available. I went for the Chorizo and Manchego Melt and my buddy went for the Caprese Sandwich add Prosciutto (double order). Each sandwich came with a lightly dressed mixed green salad. My buddy's sandwich was visually stunning and tasted great! Huge pile of prosciutto and a nice hearty hunk of fresh mozzarella. There was a little balsamic vinegar on the top bread but he felt that a balsamic dip on the side would have been a nice touch to this sandwich. Chorizo is one of my favorite meats and Manchego is my second favorite cheese so I could not pass up this melt. There was also garlic aioli and "pequillo" peppers in my melt. Although the "pequillos" were more like roasted red bell peppers and they were cut to large and actually overpowered the flavors of the chorizo so I pulled those out right away. Once the peppers were removed my sandwich was quite tasty. Not sure if I would order it again but I'm glad I gave it a try. Their pastry section looked wonderful. Several types of woopie pies, cookies (PB&J being one), French macarons, tea. Breads and many more. The restaurant itself is super small so I was curious if they made all this pastries in house and sadly they do not. They have a brad pudding though that they make in house but that was it. So needless to say I passed on the sweet treats. We were finally able to snag a table but only after having to tell people that ordered a few orders after us that the table that just opened up was ours. Its one of those kind of places when busy that you need to hover around a table like a vulture stalking it's prey. So be kind if you dine here and don't steal a table from someone that has ordered before you. The line led up as we were eating but the place was still packed. It seems people tend to linger a little longer here. When we left around 1:45pm the line was about 8-10 deep again. Guess this is the happening place in the valley. I'm in love with their shrimp po' boy sandwich! It's PERFECT. Generous with the shrimp, fresh ingredients and it has a surprising kick of heat which I appreciated. I've phone ordered for take out and went in to place an order to go, both times the staff was very friendly and helpful with making heartfelt suggestions as I was torn trying to decide between which dessert items I wanted. I picked out a few macarons, a red velvet whoopie pie and a chocolate peanut butter shortbread (BFs fave). All were pretty good but I took a liking to a few of their macarons the best. Interior is great, shades of grey and white with an inviting rustic feel to it. Some may find it a bit monochrome but I think it's simple and charming. Parking is fairly easy (street side) however during peak hours I imagine you'd have to park a block away or so and make an easy walk, nothing to dread. Definitely try the po' boy, it's a feast for the eyes and the tummy! P.S. I tried a bite of the lavender duck confit sandwich and I didn't like it :( Duck flavor was too strong for me but it seems to be one of their top sellers so may be worth checking out for yourself. read more

I'm a fan of Sweetsalt. When you walk in, I feel like there are quite a few screen writers, actors, and other people in "the industry." I've gotten a couple of their sandwiches and they are usually very good. In particular, the spicy chicken was great, as well as the prosciutto and fig (a true "sweet and salty" experience). The spicy chicken had some pickles on it, which i typically can't stand. However, for this sandwich, they were great. They were quite sweet, but really made the sandwich. It was not very spicy, but after putting some Tabasco on it, I really enjoyed it. I also usually get their cold brew bottled coffee when I am there. They have two different choices, and I have not gone with the "nitro" one yet. I heard that it packs a punch, so I'll have to try it next time i need a real pick-me-up. I can't think of the other one I get, but it is the only other bottled option. If their prices were more reasonable, this would be a 5 star review. However, $14 for a sandwich is a bit on the high side (considering the size), so -1 star for that. All in all, I'm sure that I will be back, and will try something else! read more

There's something neat and polite about this little place, but in a sort of casual, natural way. A little classic, a little rustic. Like a girl in a tidy white apron with tousled hair. It's affordable gourmet and their menu is stacked with mouth-watering items like Lavender Duck Confit sandwich, Shiitake Truffle Panini, and handmade daily soups -- their latest being Spicy Tomato and Lentil with Bacon. (Mmm, protein and piggy.) I grabbed a to-go lunch of Short Rib Roll ($10) and Mango Lentil soup ($8/quart). Yeah. Pureed tropical fruit in my soup and it was really damn good. Very creamy and satisfying. The Short Rib Roll was a delicious cloud of brioche, caramelized onion, feta, arugula, coffee-braised short rib (!). It was so soft and flavorful, I practically inhaled the thing whole. Even their simple mixed greens side salad was delectable, dressed in a lemony vinaigrette. Dreamy. I've been hunting for a spot near me that didn't just serve copious amounts of cheese and oily carbohydrates (read: fat American food) and I think this might be it. The food appears well-read and can probably school me on literature and proper etiquette. No matter though. As long as their food remains as tasty as the meal I had, I'm still going to gobble it like a barbarian. read more

Yes! ERY'Ting... and I do mean EVERYTHING and a bag of chips!! This place/location is BEYOND quaint and the food is FABULOUS presentation is gorgeous, taste is a waltz through fields of splendor for the palate. hahahaha I ordered Little Bit the Turkey, Avocado, Bacon with Gruyere - - she is 20 years old with young folks taste buds for the most parts. I really wanted to try out some of the more daring combination sandwiches but I had just gorged myself on a Mimosa and 1/2 of a Eggs Benedict so no ordering for me!! This is a walk up and order or take out place only. No table service. There are a few deuce tables along the wall and a large wooden "community" table in the front window. They had a delicious soup in an old fashioned cast iron "white" skillet pot that smelled divine and tasted yummy! I LOVE Sweetsalt. I've been a huge fan since it opened and it has only gotten better. I eat here maybe once every other week and the food and service is always spot on. The menu has so many yummy options but here are some of my favorites: 1) Spicy Quinoa Salad. Light, healthy, and refreshing. 2) Truffle Chicken Sandwich. Juicy and very flavorful. I do have to add though that the time I ordered it for pick up it wasn't as amazing as having it at the restaurant. 3) Brussel Sprouts. Perfectly cooked everytime. 4) Truffle'd Egg Sandwich. Truffle is all the rage and it's even good for breakfast! Don't forget to have a macaroon for dessert. Favorite restaurant in my neighborhood. read more

Great service.. good food. First time there today.. was greeted as we walked in. Gentlemen behind the counter has great positive energy. He made a suggestion of the 2 soups of the day.. wife ordered tomato bisque, a micro green omelette, a lemon bakery item and a chai tea. She loved all of it. I ordered the black bean cilantro soup , steak tacos. Soup was great, tacos were good, fresh guacamole. Food was served quickly. Parking isn't to bad. Can park down the side street. Good social distancing.. They really keep the place clean, watched them disinfect/ clean after every person that left. Give them a try..sorry no pictures... we were hungry.
