January 2011 = the month I decide to try NOT eating meat....also the same month I try Swingle's Tri-Tip?!!? Whaaaa how did that happen? My brother brought back a slab of Tri-Tip that he's been swooning about. C'mon, being that I've never tried it, I just HAD to take a bite. I have been coming here for years. Their meats are some of the best you can find in Northern California. Their Beef Jerky is the best in the world. Seriously. I have never tasted better Jerky, and whenever I give anyone else a taste(It's my jerky, so hands off!), they agree completely. Their pre-marinated meats are amazingly good and reasonably priced. Try their Pineapple Chicken, Kona/Motherload/Whiskey RIver Tri-Tips, the Pulled Pork is amazing, their sausages are all amazing... The list just keeps on going. They even have amazingly good pre-marinated fish fillets with cooking instructions on them, for a totally reasonable price. If you need good meat. Look for the giant, rotating cow on the roof. Ok people I know i lot of you don't eat meat that's too bad cause I found a real good place for all things meat! Now its hard to find this place, when you just make it too the top of the hill into Jackson its on the right side so get ready to hang a right real fast right after the gas station. Once you find this jewel in the foothills you will smell the maddening aroma of smoked meats, they also make most of there own products from jerky, to sausage. Lots of freezers to stick your head into to look around. The product are always fresh, I stop here on my way to the Sierras to grab a item or two for the grill. Also if your a hunter they can take care of you they do a great job! I say check them out! read more

We use Swingle Meats at our business and I can tell you unequivocally that this is the best beef produce available! I was introduced to Swingle's back in the early 80's when I was in 4H and stored our home raised pork there... that place is gourmet! When cooked correctly, that meat is UNBELIEVABLY GREAT!!! We buy their marinated tri-tips for our business and serve 'em up outdoor campfire style (for up to 250 patrons) and every one keeps a-comin back!! Although we live in Yuba City, we travel the 80+ miles 5 or 6 times a year and stock up on Swingle's Meats - yes, they are THAT good! My wife and I love their Kona style marinated tri-tip, the Kona Chicken, tortilla-encrusted tilapia as well as game meats like Elk, deer, etc. Their deer sausage and deer jerky is the best - and they've always got something new to offer every time we visit (Chicken cordon bleu, anyone?). Eating local is just smart - and shopping at Swingle's means we know it's locally-based meats (o.k., maybe not the fish, although most of it is still CA based). Parking can be trying. Not fancy, functional design; walk in and pick out what looks good. Crowed at times. Fast service and helpful staff. Some items looked like they were not sealed well. We love, love, love this place! We usually call in ahead to order 1 or 2 slabs of that honey cured bacon (which happens to be in our freezer now as this is typed). The marinated chicken and tri-tips are soooo tasty and tender! We've tried some of their different sausages which are really good too. My husband wishes they offered venison but right now, it's only venison jerky...if that. I'm not a jerky fan personally but he and the kids are. I'm a relatively newbie-customer (3 yrs) in comparison to my husband who's family have been going there for meat a couple decades. Swingle is, in a word, awesome. I live in the Upper Napa Valley, and it literally takes me several hours to get from home to there. It's a labor of love to drive there. The meat is wonderful! From Tri-tip to Pizza Burgers and Lamb and even Pasta. I have never had a bad purchase. I have been five times now, and easily spend $150 each trip, filling the back of my car with fantastic quality meats. The service is also great. Almost too good with so many people eager to help. :-) I have called ahead and placed orders, and when I get there, they are ready, but they double check them before I leave to be sure the order is complete. My husband and I heard about Swingle Meats from a friend and went to Jackson to see for ourselves. We ended up ordering a half of a half and whatever else we could stuff into our basket that day. Wow! I grew up on a ranch and haven't eaten beef like this unless I went to a four star restaurant and paid huge money for such quality! Swingles is clean, friendly and they wrap their freezer meat so well that we're in awe. Definitely worth the drive and every cent we paid. We'll be back as there are so many other things (like their babyback ribs, etc. and marinades we want to try. So glad we found this company. This is the place for great quality meat and OUTSTANDING customer service. I stock up on pork and beef pre-marinated tri-tips along with their outstanding breakfast sausage (along with other meats, fish and pastas). Such a great place. We have made the hour plus drive multiple times. They have a cut of meat they call "pork tri tip", try the Kona marinade - it's what got us hooked on this place. Their marinades are so tasty and the meat goes great on the BBQ or smoker. We've done baby back ribs, beef tri tip, pork tri tip and chicken from here in a variety of their marinades. The best beef jerky that I've ever had. My wife happens to prefer the Lockeford Sausage Co. jerky better. We had a party a couple years ago with some family over at the house. I had a plate each of Swingle's and Lockeford's jerkies. I didn't tell anyone which was my or my wife's favorite. Well, you know how for ribs and tri-tip and chicken wings, etc they have "cook offs" to determine the best? We did that for the two jerkies having as much fun at a jerk off as a guy could ever have! read more

The marinaded tri-tips are good like everyone else says and their prices are good. I asked for 4 racks of st Louis style ribs and they couldn't cut me any or didnt even offer to cut me any for me to pick up later. Which I found very odd, I even offered to pay a higher price but no luck. So they are good for whatever they offer up front, good prices most of it all frozen. I will still go here but just very disappointed that I can't get custom cuts. read more

We do not have that many opportunity's to go to a traditional butcher shop but here is one. Swingle Meat is the place to go for tri-tip and jerky. When we barbecue tri-tip it comes from Swingle, the Kona tri-tip is our favorite. It never disappoints and always comes out sweet and juicy; it will melt in your month. Love this place..... employees are awesome. BUT so said that the prices have skyrocketed in the last few weeks. I am sure it will be blamed on the pandemic as everything else is. Just sad that his tri-tip went up $3 dollars a pound, thats crazy. Would love to see a sign that prices will return once this is over or maybe they won't return. I've used a lot of butcher's in and around sacramento and these guys are the best hands down. They took care of two cows when everyone else said no way because of the fair. Tried some of there specialty products like the beef pasties and Cornish hens and they were amazing. I have to drive a little longer but it's worth it read more

Five Stars based on my only experience to date with their fresh turkey. I usually pack the kids and head to my mom's country spread in Pioneer with a seriously overpriced Heirloom turkey from one of three precious butchers in the Bay Area. They are always delicious, but they cost $5+ a pound and I have to brine that mutha at home and then pack it on ice for the ride to the mountains. It's a major friggin production so this year, I was more than game to shake it up and try something new by buying a local local turkey. Cut to the chase, this was the best turkey EVER, pre-brined, stuffed with garlic, celery carrots, etc , and spiced to perfection( I had braced for major over salting, but it was happily not to be). All I did beyond Swingle's instructions was to soak cheesecloth in melted butter and white wine which I also used to baste the orgasmic bird. The cheesecloth treatment is strictly MS Turkey 101; applied to the immodest bosom of said bird for the first 2 hours or so of roasting. A legendary turkey experience PLUS, $1.79 OUT THE DOOR and ready for your ever loving oven... I am so getting on board for the jerky which is said to be beyond compare. My brother lives above Jackson and brought me a 13lb boneless prime rib roast from this place for me to cook for our 17 guests tonight...I'll let you know....he swears that they have the best meat. Updated: Roasted at 500 degrees for an hour, then oven off for two hours, door closed, packed in rock salt. It came out perfectly...delicious meat. Update: 10 years later after my "First to Review"..17 lb seasoned prime rib boneless roast going in the oven tomorrow..going to try the conventional method this time. Stay tuned. Our family has been using Swingles for processing our steers and other fair purchases for many years now. The customer service, quality of work, and cleanliness of the facility has always been fantastic. We have used other butcher shops in the past and have never had as good of a cut and wrap job as we receive from Swingles. They are the only ones we use for steers for our own freezer and the only ones we recommend to our customers. Everyone we have sent their way has been happy. A few years ago they switched from a more traditional butcher paper or vacuum seal bag to a new double wrapped sealing process and I have loved the results and quality of meat we have had. I have had virtually no issues with freezer burn on our meat, and just this week we enjoyed some fillets that were hiding in the back that had been in the freezer for about 16 months and they were just as good as the first ones we'd ate many months earlier. Not a bit of freezer burn on them, juicy, tender. Quality would match any high end restaurant. I highly recommend the new method to anyone using them for processing. I had many more instances of freezer burn with butcher paper after only 4-6 months, or vacuum bags getting holes and loosing their seal and resulting in freezer burn. Never an issue with the new processing method,even after more than a year in the freezer. Aside from the custom processing side of the operation, the rest of the meat market is superb as well. The marinades for everything from chicken to tri-tip are fantastic, the rub for their prime rib amazing, and I've never had a dry turkey when I've cooked one of their brined birds at Thanksgiving. Great butcher who knows his craft, great friendly staff, clean shop, quality meats. Highly recommend this family run, local owned business for all your custom processing and meat needs. read more

We too had never been to swingles. We drive up 88 often. A friend told us about the butterfly marinated chicken. We stopped , were overwhelmed by the selection and choices. Got a ranch marinated chicken, thawed it cooked it on the traeger. OMG, tender, juicy, perfect. We also got some sausage, stuffed burgers, fresh bologna , pasta, and another chicken. Good thing we are going up again in a week. Even if we are pulling the 35' 5th wheel there is a big lot near by we will stop in! read more
