Everyone brags about how great the meat tastes at swingles however there is more than taste that I consider when purchasing my meat products. Does anyone care where there meat comes from? Do you care to know anything about the farm the meat was raised on or how the animals were treated and what kind of diet they were fed? I asked these questions to the owner of swingles and was told that the meat was from local farms but he could not tell me what farms the meat comes from. Swingles has great tasting meat however. I urge people to consider more than just taste and price when you eat your food. This past weekend I brought my son Jack to Swingle's for some good quality meat that wouldn't have any poor ingredients to make him sick. He has terrible food allergies. We arrived to a clean, nice smelling, well staffed, well stocked store. The business is square shaped with freezers on the perimeter and open freezers in the middle. The register is behind a larger counter and glass case with deli type items. The staff is dressed appropriately with white butcher attire and all were wearing hair covers. I approached the staff and mentioned to them that my son was allergic to soy, wheat, corn, oats, and peanuts. The staff immediately stopped what they were doing and went in the back to ask questions about their meats. Within seconds, I was pleasantly greeted by the staff and personally show the items that didn't contain soy. The butcher pointed and explained to me how they made their jerky and spices used. He explained that the chicken was free of these ingredients too. The items I purchased were the Jerky: Original & Sweet; Chicken & Beef skewers; chicken breast, hickory smoked bacon, chicken thighs, and some dog treats. The Jerky was thick, caramelized, salted appropriately, chewy & not tough, with a sweet aroma. My son snacked on during our Movie and he didn't miss the popcorn or sweets. His bag of Jerky was around 10 dollars and he was in heaven. The chicken I purchased, frozen chicken breast in a clear airtight package, I cooked tonight on the George Forman Grill with some of it frozen and some defrosted. I tossed it on the grill, with minor spices, and shut the lid. When it looked done I cut it open to find juicy, thick, evenly cooked chicken breast. It looked like a piece of chicken I saw years ago. You know real chicken not that Tyson wanna be meat kinda stuff. Now is it worth the extra step of leaving the grocery story to get meat at Swingles? Is it worth the drive from another county? In all honesty, Swingles has so many different types of meat (game, beef, pork, chicken, seafood), great staff, and outstanding quality. You will find this as one of Jackson's great treasures. Oh how I missed having a REAL butcher!!! Our family moved up to Amador county about six months ago and we had been told about the local butcher. We decided to stop in one day when we need some meat, and OMG! The prices are very reasonable, the quality is exceptional, and the staff is extremely helpful. And for those who have been missing it, they make their own beef bacon! They also smoke meat, do their own pre-seasoned products, and produce their own jerky! We now buy about 95% of our meat (beef/chicken/pork/fish) products exclusively from Swingle and not only have we been saving money (a pound of meat is really a pound, not meat, water, broth, ice, and etc.), but we've been wasting less food because the kids really eat up anything we make with their products. If you're up in Amador to visit the wineries, stop by Swingle, it's worth the trip! read more

We decided to check out Swingle last August at the recommendation of a friend. We wanted to find a place with reasonable prices and good quality meat. Well, we got that and more in Swingle Meat Co! We started off buying a few fan favorites to check out their selection. We tried their Kona Tri Tip, a couple of filet steaks and chicken. Our lives have never been the same! The tri tip was SO good and so flavorful and was unlike any other tri tip I've ever had. The filets were AMAZING and the chicken is the most tender, moist and flavorful chicken I've ever had. I seriously can't even tell you how spoiled we are with Swingle! We can't even eat grocery store meat or chicken anymore.. it just doesn't cut it! We are such fans of Swingle that we have since purchased a chest freezer for the half of a half cow that we also purchased. We buy sausage links, bacon, marinated chicken breasts, pork roasts, buffalo burgers, beef jerky.. you name it, we want to eat it! We've even started purchasing our prepped holiday turkeys and roasts here too (AMAZING!!). I will say though if you've never had REAL bacon from a butcher, prepare yourself for intense flavor.. Whenever we buy an animal at the Junior Livestock Auction, we have it sent to Swingle for processing. They do a fantastic job at cutting and packing EXACTLY as we like it, tailored for our bigger-than-average family, and get it all done at an impressively fast pace. Their staff has always been extremely helpful and courteous, and have cheerfully helped me load downright INSANE amounts of meat into my van - packing it carefully so that it doesn't shift around while I make the homeward trek. Last time, the young man even took pains to ensure that it was packed in a way that helped it stay good and frozen, with the "smaller" things nestled between the "larger" roasts and such. This is a lot of meat (think: whole steer, 2-3 hogs, maybe a lamb), and a lot of places today would just point at the massive pile of boxes and say, "There it is. Good luck to you." They don't just halfheartedly offer to help, they jump right on in and ask, "Where's your car? I'll load it for you." For which my back and I are eternally grateful. Their smoked meats are second to none, and their ham hocks have become even more necessary for our basic survival than we like to admit. (Toss one in a crock-pot with a cup or two of dry beans, a can or two of diced tomatoes, and maybe a chopped-up onion - you'll have unbelievable flavor at the end of the day, with less than ten minutes of effort put into it.) read more

Tiny parking lot, didn't care about the decor, wish they were open daily. All that aside, hands down this is some of the best meat selection and jerky I've tasted. That storebought jerky will never measure up once you've had them, and the kobe cuts are mouthwateringly divine. Holiday hams need so little personal touch before baking and serving, a few well placed slices of orange and the tenderness is ready for consumption. Oh my gosh! While camping in the area other campers told us about Swingle Meat Company. It sounded good so we figured "what the heck, let's give it a try. The shop was very clean and the butchers were outstanding. Since we had never been there my husband had a few questions and they answered the questions happily. We purchased a "Maui seasoned" tri tip, a Hawaiian flavored pork tri tip, ground sausage, chicken kabobs,hamburger patties, beef sticks, & my husbands favorite bologna. So far we have had the Maui tri tip and I must say it was the most delicious tri tip I have ever had! Hubby had one of the hamburgers and that too was excellent. We will for sure be going back to fill our freezer. We highly recommend Swingle meats! The prices were also very reasonable and everything is so fresh! read more

I shop here regularly on my way to Pioneer, Ca from my other home in San Francisco and I love their extensive selection of top quality meats. The fresh meats are kept in back, so you need only ask them for a roast or chops (or whatever you want) which they quickly cut and wrap fresh right in front of you. They have a freezer section with all kinds of goodies like their big and flavorful Veal Raviolis. The choices are vast. Their Country Style Bacon is sliced extra wide which makes it ideal for sandwiches. They have hard to find Apricot Wood Chips (as well as, Hickory, Apple & Mesquite) for the smoker. I always get some of their Beef Jerky as it is tender and full of spices. It is definitely worth the trip and you can explore beautiful Amador County before you shop. Kirkwood Ski Resort is just 40 miles up the road from Swingle's. Sutter Creek (a real Gold Mining town) and the town of Volcano (with the Historic St. George Hotel) are very close by. The drive up highway 88 to Hope Valley is stunning. Don't forget to pack the cooler, so you can stock up on the way home! read more

I am a firm believer that truly supreme products are worth a) the price and b) the wait. This is why I love going to Swingle. Really, the prices are really good, considering what you get--a great old fashioned butcher shop experience with amazing meats, but you also get old fashioned great customer service, which is rare nowadays. I love the per marinated meats here and the bacon is amazing! Not like any other bacon I've ever had! I cooked mine in the oven on a cooling rack over a cookie sheet to catch the drippings and before cooking, I sprinkled some brown sugar on top. Simply Devine! The stuffed burgers are wonderful and a really good deal! As far as "the wait" I mentioned earlier, since I live about an hour away, I can't go as often, so we make it a fun trip there a couple times a year...it is a pretty drive!
