Been to Taberna a couple of times - the big draw is of course the location and patio! If you're hanging out at any of the lakes it's a short easy walk to Taberna! Their patio is humungous and glorious. They also have a variety of seating including a bar if you're alone. They've also got games like pool and pull tabs, tons of tvs usually showing sports, and complimentary off-street parking! You can also place an order online for pickup and get takeout. They take reservations as well. Reservations would probably be a good idea if you ever think of coming here in summer because it gets absolutely packed - especially during happy hour! I recently rented the the whole restaurant for a work event. It was a little difficult to get logistics taken care of but the day of the event went off without a hitch. This urban industrial chic restaurant features tall ceilings, a wall of windows facing Lake Calhoun and a huge patio. The tap beer list is amble with a healthy mix of domestic and imported light beer as well as some local and national craft favorites. We started with an order of Buffalo wings. Nice sized, fried to a perfect crunch while keeping the meat juicy and proportionality tossed in the sauce. I would definitely order again. For tacos I went with El Pastor, Steak, Carnitas, and Korean BBQ. Each one was generously portioned, fresh and full of flavor. Absolutely no complaints! I love that there's somewhere to get elote in Minnesota! It was very tasty and fortunately wasn't covered in cayenne pepper like the elote I had in San Antonio. I enjoyed the tacos too. Ordering was fine, but Toast doesn't save my password which is annoying. They had the food ready when promised and were friendly. I've been coming to Taberna since they opened in 2019 and I would say they are hands down my favorite place to go for tacos! Depending on how hungry I am, I might get the 3 Taco Combo which comes with any three tacos, elote and rice or beans. It really is the biggest bang for your buck but is also a lot of food. This time I got a couple of tacos and split chips and salsa which comes with a red and a green salsa. I am a baby when it comes to spicy food and I can't have the red salsa because it's too hot, but I love the green salsa as it is flavorful and just has a kick of spiciness to it. The tacos are jam packed with flavor and ingredients! I like that they double up on the tortilla because there are enough fillings to get two tacos from one so I always feel like I'm getting away with a 2 for 1 deal. They had happy hour when we went in and have HH M-F 3:00-6:30 and Sat & Sun 11:00-5:00. This means my classic margarita was only $5! It was strong and a perfect pairing to the tacos. The second drink I got was the Bde "Mez Skal", which was OK. I probably wont go with this one again as the tequila used was Mezcal and the rim was salted with Tajin which I am not a huge fan of. All in all, I have yet to have a poor experience at Taberna. The staff is awesome, the owner is super friendly and the food is top notch. One of the toughest parts of eating out in the cities is finding parking, but they have assigned lot parking and an underground garage dedicated to the restaurant. Came in on a quiet Tuesday for lunch and was invited onto a spacious patio dotted with cheery yellow chairs. We didn't realize there was a taco special on Tuesdays - street tacos are $2.22 each. The selection is expansive, interesting and diverse - Korean, Vegan Chorizo, Crispy Shrimp, Baja Fish, Carne Asade, etc For $2, I wasn't expecting the tacos to be very big or filling. Boy was I wrong!!! Every taco I ordered was stuffed full of fresh ingredients. The fish on the Baja fish taco was huge and the Carne Asada was over flowing with bits of savory steak. I ordered 4 tacos and was full after eating only 2. The onion rings were very unique, the shell was crispy and reminiscent of an egg roll. Onion rings tasted surprisingly light and not greasy at all. The coconut tres leches was decadent and moist. Check it out if you are looking to end your meal with a sweet treat. The absolute highlight of our experience at Taberna Tacos was the service. My daughter has food allergies and the owner actually took the time to learn our names and navigate through the menu with us. He was so genuinely warm and kind and even made a custom allergy friendly dessert for her. We didn't have any issues with parking by the restaurant and if outside spots are full, there is a parking garage with spots for patrons. We didn't explore the inside too much but saw some arcade games and lots of big screens. Air conditioning was a bit strong and it felt a bit chilly indoors. Thankfully it was perfect on the patio. Taberna is casually upscale and hip, blending in perfectly with the aesthetic of the Bde Maka Ska area. This was my second visit to Taberna. It's located on the north side of Bde Maka Ska right off of Lake street. They have a really nice patio and a good indoor space. The service is pretty good, we went pretty late on a Sunday, so it wasn't super busy. The server was friendly and the food came out reasonably fast. I went with the three taco combo, which comes with elote and rice (or beans). I'll start with the positives: the elote is amazing and delicious. I'd eat 5 if I could. The fried fish taco was phenomenal. They use corn tortillas which really take the tacos up an extra notch. For the negatives: the pork belly taco was not great. The protein came out pretty tough and chewy and made it difficult to eat. Major number because the other ones were so good. Overall I'd recommend. I ordered the mint margarita and they even put peppermint on the rim which was a fun touch! We were both quite hungry that night and decided to start with the Mexican fries. They were your average fries with some toppings. The toppings were good but I wish there had been more. We ordered the Tacos for 2, this order comes with 6 tacos, rice and beans, elote mexican corn, and tres leches. The elote corn was great, it had excellent flavor and was a unique side dish. The rice and beans were just as it sounds and not much more. The reason I am giving this place three stars is because of the tacos. As someone who really enjoys tacos these were not my favorite. They were very breaded and lacked flavor. We ordered the chicken taco, shrimp taco, Baja fish taco, the southwest taco, and the Korean BBQ taco. The shrimp was good but very breaded. The chicken did not have a lot of flavor and was an odd texture. Everything else was bland and not memorable. Given the price of this meal, it was underwhelming. I would like to point out that our service was great and was the redeeming factor of this experience. We got seated quickly and our waiter was very nice. Stopped into this place to watch the Vikings game. The servers were really friendly. I sat at the bar and they had a small but decent selection of beers on tap. First off greeted with a happy smile and friendly welcome! 2 please - they did the COVID check in stuff and sat us brought water right out, followed by our soda pops. Went here on a Friday night with some co-workers. We made a reservation for 5pm and there were about 7 of us. We had a nice patio table and it was a beautiful night. I'm glad we made a reservation because it was SO busy! Parking was a little confusing - there is some outdoor parking right next to the restaurant and then they have an underground garage with more parking. I'd never been here before so I didn't know what to expect, but I was a bit disappointed. Prices were all over the place for food and drinks, with a minimum being about $15 up to $35-40. Several people split some taco combos and a lot of the group got elote (they raved about it). I got the Southwestern Bowl and it was pretty basic - rice, beans, cheese, corn. Overall I'd say the food was mediocre, but if you asked other people in my group they would say it was great. Their cocktails were overpriced, in my opinion. $10 for a Margarita that wasn't anything special. An extra $1 if you wanted flavoring (e.g. strawberry Margarita). They had some "specialty margaritas" that were also $10. I had the spicy watermelon, which was good but still not worth $10. My final bill after some food and a few drinks was over $50 and I wish I could say it felt worth it. read more
