Meh. This place has all the makings to be a great spot, but the food killed it. The location is phenomenal, the staff is exceptional, and it is so clean. The whole vibe of this place is so great. The food though, not so great. I had the catch of the day fish fajitas. The catch must've been caught a couple weeks ago and frozen. The beans were the only good part of my meal. Okay, the chips and salsa were pretty great I must say. The rice was old and soggy- I couldn't eat more than a couple of bites. The vegetables were super soggy and over cooked. My friend had some sort of mango salsa on her dish and it looked amazing. The mangos were so gummy and slimy that it was unappetizing. I was looking for a takeout spot and Taco Surf didn't appear to be the place I was looking for, but I stuck around. They were pretty busy on a Tuesday night, but I sat at the bar and asked to get a burrito to go and they were cool with it. Because generally sit-down mexi places' (by the coast) burrito's aren't big enough to cure my hunger on their own, I ordered two fish tacos as well. The battered fish tacos were BIG, and delicious. Surprisingly rare in OC (at least in my experience). My burrito was huge too. Really good burrito (and definitely good size for the price) and really good fish tacos. Just a little dark taco shop. A friend of mine brought me here and we both ordered the Chimichangas, after teasing the waitress about having to ask for a straw. Yes, it was just a joke. Not her fault I am required to ask for a straw to receive one! We all had a laugh about it though. The chimichanga was ok but not very flavorful. I doused it in salsa which obviously helped, but the chicken did not seem to be seasoned at all. The salsa however was good. Wet burrito with pork (carnitas) good as ever. Service on the other hand is a different matter. Waitress asked for our drink order. I requested water with no ice. Needless to say I received water with extra ice. Waitress asked for our order. I usually order for my wife and I. Waitress insisted on getting wife's order first by turning her back to me. My girlfriend and I stopped in around 7:30 for our valentines dinner and this place did not disappoint! Located in Seal Beach near the Pier this place offers a variety of different Mexican food from tacos to wet burritos at a very reasonable price! Upon arriving we were seated promptly and our servers - we had two - were very welcoming and accommodating! The blonde lady always had a smile on her face and the older gentleman was always checking up on us and did a great job making us feel like we were right at home. Amazing service: 5 stars! Now to the food! We were served complimentary chips and salsa immediately upon being seated. The chips were delicious - although some pieces were a little stale - and I'm pretty sure they're home made so that's an awesome bonus! The salsa was awesome; to me, it was the perfect consistency and it was seasoned perfectly. Just delicious, tangy, oniony goodness. I had three tacos: al pastor, chicken, and fish taco. Al Pastor: the flavor of the meat itself was delicious and the condiments really helped elevate this taco and provide different textures and flavors. My one concern is that I wish it was seasoned a little better with just a dash of salt and lime juice it would've made this taco a whole different beast. It was still good though: 4 STARS Chicken: this taco was very average. The chicken was dry on the inside and it felt like a very Americanized chicken taco with the shredded cheddar cheese on there. The one positive about this taco was the guacamole which tasted delicious and was decently seasoned. The meat was also a little bland. Average: 3 STARS. Fish Taco: this is the taco that boosted my whole dining experience and really delivered in terms of flavor and texture. Just amazing. Make sure you order it you will NOT be disappointed. There is a piece of crispy fried fish - seasoned to perfection - topped with crisp veggies and a delicious tangy, citrusy baja sauce. It is amazing and the fish is crispy crispy crispy. Definitely has a bite to it and just thinking of it makes me hungry. 5 STARS ALL DAY .... MUST GET. Overall this dining experience was very good. The service was awesome and the food was good. It doesn't deserve a 5 star because there was technical issues here and there. But overall it was a great dining experience and I'm glad I was able to enjoy it with my girl :) read more

This place started wayyyy at the bottom and worked it's way up......to two stars (I guess they didn't work their way up THAT much). We decided to come here for a small lunchy snack thinking we were going to get some cheap tacos, sodas and laughs.........we were wrong, though we did laugh. When we walked in all sandy and sunny after a great beach day, we were greeted with no service and dirty looks. You have sawdust on the floor and you don't want my sandy legs to touch your fake wood benches. Yeah, that makes sense. Anyways, after we sat down, someone brought us menus and looked at us without saying anything. Apparently, my boyfriend can read minds, because he said two diet cokes and the guy walked away and came back with two diet cokes! After looking at the menu and realizing these were not going to be the cheap street tacos we were dreaming of we decided to still just get some tacos as there were free chips and salsa! And the chips were tri-color.....it's the little things. Fast forward to twenty minutes later when we finally asked someone if we could order......we got two baja fish tacos and two carnitas tacos. I went to the bathroom to wash the sun screen and sand off my hands and eyes. Unfortunately this cleansing ritual was not fun; it was like 95 degrees in there, they were out of paper towels and you have to allow the kitchen staff to undress you with their eyes as you are waiting to get in. ugh. I'm so over it, and expecting the worst of the food. Then taco time! These tacos were huge and honestly, really tasty. Tasty enough to go back even with the bad service and only being allowed one refill on your soda......what is that?! The baja sauce was the perfect amount of spiciness and creaminess, the fish was extra crispy and the tortillas were super soft, just how I like 'em. The carnitas was perfectly salty and a little crispy. They were really tasty and at 2.75 a pop, a perfect lunchtime treat! I always order their #3 which comes with two soft corn tortillas with a meat of your choice, lettuce, cheese, fresh pico, and guacamole. I usually get their grilled fish as my meat choice. I've also had their pipeline burrito and it's massive! They are not stingy with their servings. I've been to other Taco Surf locations and this is the best one!! Their food is fresh but the only downside is parking. It's in main street Seal Beach so it's mostly busy during the summer and holidays. My fiance and I try to come during the weeknights because it's less packed. Another thing I love about this place is their chips and salsa! That can be dangerous! It's affordable and delicious! I opted for one Baja fish taco (fried fish with cabbage, white sauce, pico de gallo and guac), and one carne asada taco. The chips and salsa we were served soon after ordering were good - salsa had some kick and the chips were fresh. Throughout our meal the servers refilled both without us having to ask - yay! The tacos are larger in size than what I'm used to. They were both pretty good, but the fish wasn't a beer battered fish that I'm used to..more like a bread crumb coating? It's on main street in Seal Beach and very close to the pier so it's a great place to come to with friends after a day at the beach. As far as Mexican food chains go, Taco Surf is always pretty good. I decided to walk on the wild side and have the hot wings and although they weren't spicy enough I was very surprised with the large amount they give you. Worth it! This place was exactly what my friends and I were looking for! We could not believe how quickly we were served and how friendly everyone was! We had a party of seven and waited only minutes to be seated. We mentioned that we had a prior engagement to attend and we needed to have our food quickly and the server complied. He took our drink orders and I don't think I've ever received my water that quickly. Once we ordered, many of us ordered fish tacos and the fish burritos, our food came out within 15 minutes.
