I love Taco Surf. I've come here for years and tried multiple locations. Since I'm in town visiting, I have to get my fix. My go-to meal is the Seafood Bowl. It's sooo yummy, especially with their signature Baja Sauce drizzled on top. If you're looking for something really tasty, try a burrito Baja Style or get a wet burrito with Baja Sauce. Standout happy hour! That is what you need to know about Taco Surf. Though the restaurant itself is pretty basic and a little dim, the food is good and the prices are great. A nice selection of tacos makes it easy to get a nice little assortment for happy hour and the prices ensure you can get a few different ones to try. Beers are cheap to wash it down as well. The service at Taco Surf was friendly, attentive, patient and gracious. The food here is good, I had the SCORPION CHOWDER soup which is marked with the "pepper" symbol for spicy, but it's more zesty than spicy in that it's the right amount of heat/kick to it where it's not too hot to handle. I'm usually a "no spice to mild / medium" customer, so that's the frame of reference for the context of understanding this review and my own tolerance. There's hot sauce on the table to add more spice if needed, I didn't need it. The soup is temperature warm, not super scalding hot, so could be served up a bit hotter, but it was good enough. The "Scorpion" is the SHRIMP (Prawns?) used, so there are no arachnid insects with pincers involved with this at all, it's just got a cool unique name to it. It's a cream based soup, so like a clam or corn chowder. I think it comes in 8 oz and 12 oz. I always order the large soups, bowls over cups when the price differential is so minor. I'd recommend the 12 oz, and would even say that it would be great if Taco Surf offered a meal sized portion at 20oz + since this is so delicious. The soup comes served with bread you can dip as well. I also had a Pork Taco El Pastor for $3.50, it was a tad small, but tasty. I think they offer a Happy Hour Taco from 2pm as the weekday start time for $1.50, but heard (can't confirm 'til I try it 'tho) it was a smaller portion size, so I'm not sure if it's a deal or how it compares. Parking is easy (sort of, if you're used to the hustle and bustle of Metropolitan Los Angeles). There's 2 hr free (no meters) parking on Main Street, and then adjacent in the residential neighborhoods there's some 1 hour free parking zones. read more

This is a great casual spot on main street just steps from the beach. It's a nice break from the sun to come here and get lunch with friends or family. While the food isn't what you'd call "authentic" mexican cuisine, it's all well prepped. The salsa and guac both taste fresh. The tortilla chips were good, in the nachos and on their own. Our group tried many of the dishes - tacos, quesadillas, a burrito, nachos - and nobody had anything bad to say. The horchata and aqua fresca (watermelon, on the day we went) also got good reviews from our group. Not saying the food is anything to write home about, but it's good and reasonably priced for a beachside restaurant. There are also tables set up for outdoor dining, and this can lead to a bit of a wait at lunchtime on the weekends. However, you can always elect to take your food to-go and eat on the beach, which we did. The staff was also so nice and accommodating. One of us dropped their drink 30 seconds after receiving it, and the staff went out of their way to replace it immediately. That was really kind and they definitely didn't have to do that. My wife is born & raised in Long Beach and she said it was the best carnitas she's had. Our server was friendly and attentive and made sure that we had everything we needed (thank you Sabrina). Most of the people who work there have worked there for many years, and they are all super friendly. They need everyone's support now more than ever! You'll find many options for food when you are walking down Main street. If you are in the mood for Mexican food, I recommend this spot. I like to think that Mexican food is one of my favorite comfort foods and this place did amazingly well. You'll get a small bowl of chips and salsa when you order food. I absolutely love this and devoured most of the bowl on my own. They have a good variety as far as menu items. You'll find your typical taco plates and burrito plates on here. Everything coming out looked good. I went with the two enchilada plate. The portions here are huge so stick to one item. Quality wise I would highlight that the cheese was amazing and the serving of rice plus beans were perfect. The horchata was good and I gladly would have ordered another if I wasn't so full at the end. Price for everything was more than fair considering portion size. Great attentive staff. When here last night for some tacos, got 2- of the 3 taco combos. What an excellent tacos they are. Got 3 of the fish tacos grilled. Bomb was not the word. Much better even than that. 2ed set I had 2 carnitas and 1 shredded beef. All the tacos were delicious and left me wanting more. My only complaint would be the beer was rather warm but we can't win them all read more

I love the laid back feel and we have come here many times now and have had almost all positive experiences. Their taco Tuesday deals are great and their veggie tacos are amazing whether you are a vegetarian or not! This review is a long time coming. Lately I don't write as many reviews because I'm grumpy and stressed, and don't feel I can give a balanced review. However Taco Surf is an exception, because I can never find anything to grump about. The attention to detail and love that goes into every dish my GF and I ever order is outstanding. Always fresh, flavorful you can feel the heart that goes into this place. Service is always great and helpful, and Sabrina today was exemplary of this. Sometimes you can just tell when a place is run with love, and Taco Surf is one of these rare gems! The same can be said of the Cypress location. Pros: The staff are very friendly and nice, quick to get your order out or refill your water or chips. The place is pretty clean and festive, if a bit small. Cons: the food. It was happy hour when we came and it was a great way to sample the many meats they have to offer. The pork is excellent, if drowning in oil (but it's so good I didn't care). The al pastor is probably my favorite. Great balance of flavors. The fried fish taco was your standard one but so delicious. The fresh salsa is also good but nothing out of the ordinary special. The chicken taco was dry, the carne Asada was burnt, tough and practically inedible, and the grilled fish had a bone in it still. The shrimp taco was okay but it's marinated in a sauce that was a bit off putting but it would have been good otherwise. All in all, if you're close by, I'd say it's a great place to have a bite to eat. But living an hour from the beach, I probably won't be making this trek out just for this food again. read more

I went here for the first time today with one of my friends. Let me start by saying the service here is amazing. They are very friendly and pay attention to what you need, great group of people. I love the atmosphere. It's like a neighborhood bar. Long bar inside some tables inside and some tables outside and decorated in Mexican style. I had the pork chili Verde burrito and it was fabulous. Service is always friendly and fast and luckily (*knock on wood) I've never had much of a wait to get a seat. The difficult part is always trying to figure out what to get, tacos or enchiladas... Their tacos are fantastic my particular favorite is the fish taco! Perfectly cooked breaded fish is offset with the crunch and freshness of shave cabbage, absolutely delicious.
