Super scrumptious lunch today at the Lu! We chose a high top table near the bar and the dynamic duo of Wally & Benny took great care of us! We were immediately greated with chips and salsa and the drinks followed shortly after! If you've never tried their verde salsa I highly recommend it! The tomatillo tomatoes give it that tangy bite, and the onions provide the crunch. My Taco Lu salad with bangin shrimp was delicious and filling, the dressing is lite but packed with flavor, add some salsa to it if you want a kick! It's about time I tried this place out! Heard it from friends for years and just didn't crossed my mind until a girlfriend of mine wanted to celebrate her birthday here. We came here around 2pm and it was crowded. Just on the side note, it was chilly and rainy so I had to park away from the restaurant in the other plaza. My girlfriend was able to get us on the waitlist and there were about 8 parties ahead of us. Estimated wait time was about 30 minutes. We stood around the entrance inside and of course, I took photos while waiting. I'll say about 15 minutes in, our table was ready, so it wasn't that long. The atmosphere was great, although loud. I had to raise my voice or "yell" at my girlfriend to speak with her. The waitress was friendly and nice and recommended us some great taco options. Since I cannot consume large amounts of alcohol, she suggested virgin drinks which were great so I order the classic virgin margarita as my beverage of choice. Very delicious I should say. :) As an appetizer, we had the Large Guacamole with unlimited chips and salsa. As my entree, I ordered the Bangin' Shrimp, The "$10" Taco, and Carne Asada, all with the corn tortilla. I do say, the filet mignon and steak was quite flavorful and juicy. The shrimp was crispy and tasteful. I had the cheese on the side. The only con I'll point out was the corn tortilla needs to be cooked/grilled a little more. It was a bit too soft and felt undercooked. Just a little longer on the grill and it would've been perfect. Overall, the staff, atmosphere, and food were great, however, a bit pricey for each taco, but hey, once in a while is good for me. After a long day at work, sometimes eating a taco is the only thing that can satisfy a pang of hunger and make the day a bit better. A coworker invited me to this place and from the service to the food, I'd give this place a solid 3.5/5 stars! Ambience: The Lu (named after the owner's daughter) is a small restaurant nestled in what used to be The Homestead Restaurant. We went on a Tuesday afternoon and the small establishment was bustling with activity. The walls were lined with beautiful murals and ceilings lined with picado banners-- great for an Insta shoot! The atmosphere where we initially sat was a little too dark for me, so I asked the waitress if we could be seated by a window (much better to read the menu!). Small skeleton figurines are scattered throughout paying homage to Dia de los Muertos. Service: For a late afternoon on Tuesday I would say that the service was great. I was able to find a parking spot, but there is complimentary valet parking that is somewhat typical of restaurants to offer at Beaches. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs and the time from order to food-on-the- table was approximately 20 minutes. Food: I loved the tortilla chips and the salsa that came out first. The salsa had the right amount of kick to it and wasn't watered down like other establishment's. The tacos were about 6 inches in diameter each, which may sound pretty small, but I was stuffed after two tacos given the amount of filling they placed in them. The Mexican Street Corn was topped with small pellets of Cotija cheese, smothered in chipotle crema and splashed with a hint of lime. It's good by itself, but better as an add-on to your tacos! I ordered the Taco Rosa, which had seared Ahi Tuna lying on a bed of wasabi crema/pickled cucumber slaw. The crema was not too powerful and the slaw was really good. I'm a fan of tuna, but I wished that there was something else that could mask the fishy aftertaste I got after a couple of bites. It didn't taste "meaty" that I would typically have in sushi-grade ahi. I also ordered the Flyin' Hawaiian which had carnitas and a pineapple slaw. This was better than the other taco, but the carnitas were a bit dry. Price: The prices for the tacos ranged from $2-5 and that's for one 6 inch diameter taco. Very reasonable in my opinion. - Flying Hawaiian: $3.75 - Taco Rosa: $ 3.99 - Mexican Street Corn (Appetizer size) $3.99 Overall: I'd say that the food was decent and the service A-OK. The tacos almost remind me of the kinds I would get when I frequented a lot of taco stands in NYC. I'll definitely come back and try other items on the menu-- the great thing about Lu is that they are always concocting a new taco. :) Oh, and hopefully they will add horchata to their drink list. A go to staple in Jax Beach. The quirky and ever present Dia de Los Muertos vibe is fun and spread throughout all the rooms. They have some of the best free chips and salsa. The queso is also delicious, but I would stay clear of the tasteless guacamole. There are so many things to choose from, but the Blackened Scallop and Carne Royal were calling my name...and *chef's kiss* they his the spot. The tacos are pretty filling and don't break the bank. Went during lunch and it was pretty busy, but service was great. Parking is not the greatest, but there is complimentary valet. This is easily one of my favorite taco places in Jacksonville! Upon entry, you are immersed into what appears to be a Day of the Dead theme mixed with a passion for tequila. They building is what used to be a house and each room is decorated in different styles (and different tequila bottles). It has a really cool vibe and is a great place to bring your friends! But what really sets this place apart from others is the food! I came in on a Sunday night for a 'Girls Night' with some friends. We were seated within five minute and had to start off our night with our usual order of queso. I'm a cheese lover and TacoLu just knows the way to my heart. Their queso is a delightful mixture of cheeses with a perfect creamy consistency. It is the great pair with any of their salsas. It didn't stop there, we also ordered numerous tacos. I ordered the banging shrimp, carne royale and flounder taco (it was a special of the night). All had great flavor and the components were fresh. It was exactly what you'd want from a taco! First pit stop as soon as we landed in Florida was TacoLu!!! What a perfect welcome to Jax Florida! This was a vibrant, exciting, festive Mexican hot spot with some of the best Mexican food on the east coast! While we waited for our table, we nabbed a spot at the busy bar area. It was full of life and fervor! We got our drinks and then, boom! our table was ready! The décor knocked my socks off! So much to absorb and take in! I walked around a bit to enjoy all the detailed vignettes and colorful art! Even the restrooms were beautifully designed and kept with the authentic theme! Our server was Speedy Gonzales, and pleasantly sweet as well! As nice as the ambiance and service was, the food stole the show. Even if the atmosphere wasn't there, this food would be amazing! The street corn was delicious - crisp charred kernels with mild but flavorful spices and a hint of lime, the tacos were perfectly seasoned and heartily portioned, and the queso dip and guacamole were both superb! We hungrily devoured our meals with lip smacking delight! If I'm ever in Jacksonville again, and I hope to come back, TacoLu will be on my "must do" list! Let's taco about how tacotastic TacoLu is! Hands down they are the best tacos I've ever had in my entire life! Everything from the service to the food to the ambiance was absolutely phenomenal. I had these tacos a week ago and I am still thinking about them. When you walk in, it feels like you are transported into the Mexico pavilion at Epcot or a scene from Pixar's Coco. The attention to detail is astonishing even in the bathroom. However the bathroom was actually rather dark, I need my phone's flashlight to see. They have outdoor and indoor seating. The indoor seating is quiet large so many can sit inside on a hot summers day! Chips and salsa were brought to the table and we ordered a side of queso and wow let's just say we devoured it and left that bowl clean. The queso was warm and it was a nice contrast to the salsa with a kick to it. I ordered the street corn and 3 tacos. The corn had cotija cheese and it was brought in a small bowl but there was nothing wow about it and I believe it's because the corn is already in individualized kernels so you need to eat it with a spoon. The tacos were the star of the show. I had the fish taco, the avocado taco and the filet mignon taco and all 3 of them were savory, delicious, made my taste buds dance! Enjoyed another trip to Taco Lu. Drinks were good and the tacos were delicious and huge as always. Having said that there is a reason it's called Taco Lu and not Salad Lu. The Lu salad with chicken is $17 which is pricey but you get a huge salad. The problem is the chicken was incredibly dry. Instead of pulled chicken it should be a grilled breast or thigh. And the salad wqs difficult to eat because of how it was put together. Stick with the tacos. You can't go wrong with that choice. read more

You can view menu on line or have a paper menu. They have coke products and I must say their water was delicious too. I ordered the brisket enchilada. It was a big serving. It also came with a side for which I got the street corn. It is off the cob. Enchilada was as an 8.5 out of 10. Lots of great mexican flavor. Not shy on the meat serving either. Very delicious. The street corn was a 9.2 out of 10. Very delicious! Oh and the chips and salsa very awesome! Chips. 7.4 and the Salsa a 9.1! My wife has the vegetarian taco and she said she loved it! Full of vegetables including mushrooms, corn, spinach and green beans! The food came very fast if you are in a hurry you will be good to go! Took about 4 minutes for the food! It's been quite some time since we've eaten at TacoLu even though we live in Jax Beach. I just know the past few experiences here weren't worth remembering and so we just don't choose TacoLu as a "go-to" place for us. Going there this past weekend definitely was another reassurance of why we don't eat here anymore. First of all, the hype of this place isn't as great as it seems. Ambiance is still cool, but definitely an over-priced spot to have dinner. We were with a large group on a Saturday night, BUT service wasn't even the issue! We had about a 20-30 minute wait, but that was as expected. Our waitress was awesome and she handled our party of 15 quite efficiently, so kudos to her! That's one of the only reason this review is even getting stars. Even the food arrived fast to the table after ordering. The quality of the food is a different story. For the kid's cheese "quesadilla meal", it was a taco size tortilla sprinkled with cheese and sliced in half with a side of under-seasoned corn. Our 8 year old ate his "quesadilla" in two bites and didn't touch the corn. This was more like a toddler meal! Oh and the price of the kid's meals advertised on their menu says $4.99 but we were charged $6.99 as seen on the receipt. The 4 pieces of meat in the $5 carne asada tacos were dry, however, we did really like the bangin' shrimp taco. Other friends at the table complained about the spice to it, so be aware it does have some kick. A soda cost almost $4. Who really drinks more than a glass of soda per sitting? And even if someone does, why charge that much if it's only going to get refilled when we ask for more but the tap water given is constantly being poured in all the other cups. The chicken in the $14 enchilada was good only if it had the queso I paid $2 extra to add on it. Other than that, the chicken was also flavorless. One star for service & one star for the ambiance. Great food- average to below average service. We have been here many times- mostly at dinner- there is ALWAYS a ridiculous wait time and there are ALWAYS many tables that are waiting to be cleaned. The business owner could increase revenue by 25%+ if they turned tables when customers leave. EVERY time I visit- I see this as a problem. Tonight- we were told that it would be at least an hour. Ordering the steak taco, I was given. Plate with 1 taco, with some chopped steak on it, and nothing else. I ordered a side of black beans, what i got was a bowl of half warm black beans that had no taste. We ordered the guacamole, it was sour and had nothing in it other then some crushed avocado and cilantro, where are the onions, tomatoes, literally anything else to make it an actual gaucamole? Have I seriously not reviewed Taco Lu before?! This is one of our family's go-to spots whenever we have company on from out of town who want a taste and feel of Jax Beach. Or if it's Thursday happy hour. Or if it's Saturday and we want a no frills brunch. Or just about anytime we want to eat. The key is to find YOUR tacos here. Admittedly, I wasn't that impressed the first time I went, but the "Carne Royale" taco (steak with Brie and grape salsa and love) drew me back. That and the Mexican street corn which comes off the cob and is probably the best thing they've got going on here apart from the margs IMHO. And when in doubt, listen to the tacos on special!
