TacoLu has the best American-ized Mexican food! Amazing salsa, creative tacos and awesome queso. What really stands out to me is the allergy competency. They've always been great with my gluten intolerance, now I also have to eat dairy free. A large vegan menu accommodates this necessity easily. I actually get the exact same thing (carnitas and scallop tacos) with a few small subs for my intolerances. One of the easiest restaurants for someone like me. Take out is pretty good, it kinda sucks to be charged for chips and salsa but they're so good I'll order them every time. I order take away a lot and sometimes they forget an item in my bag. I've always been able to call and get it taken care of. My advice is to check to go orders before leaving. read more

Cool spot in Jacksonville, everybody goes here and hypes it up. The restaurant itself is very colorful on the inside and has decorations everywhere. It tends to get pretty busy at night and during the weekends. It's good to come for the experience but I think the food is sub par. In terms of food, I don't think it's anything special. You can get decent tacos here and you have a bit of variety but I find the food very bland. They also have brunch options as well. I've been here multiple times at other friends' requests and collectively, I've had the guacamole, banging shrimp taco, brisket taco, quesadilla, the don patrol and the ice cream. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Plenty of parking and even complimentary valet! You can tell a lot of people come here. Tacos are to die for! We tried about 6 different ones and none of them disappointed. They even have vegan tacos! We were curious and asked why they did not offer burritos, and it was because they wanted to concentrate on their tacos more. Which is for sure working! We also tried the elote corn which felt like the most amazing thing I had ever, and the enchiladas suizas which were soooo good too. Great salsa. Texture is almost perfect, and it even has a surprising amount of heat. I'd prefer a slightly lighter flavor, but whatever. I got four tacos: Deb's verde chicken, Baja fish taco, Brisket, and Carne royale. I liked the Baja fish taco and brisket the most. I liked the verde chicken the least. Batter on the fish had the ideal amount of light crispiness, and the tomatoes and other ingredients made it a very refreshing taco. Generic, but good. Brisket was soft and had some fat on it, although the it was inconsistent. It worked well enough with the other ingredients, especially the cotija cheese. Steak in the carne royale was over cooked for my tastes. It wasn't particularly sweet or particularly spicy as advertised. Criminally weak umami for a steak taco. Verde chicken was rather bland. A magical combination of mediocre meat and lack of flavor. It's really just chicken, tomatillo, and cheese, and you can barely taste the tomatillo or the cheese. It's kind of awkward to squeeze such small slices of lime. I'd prefer that they just use the normal wedge size. Overall, I was a bit disappointed. This just barely scrapes out four stars. read more

Traveling to Jacksonville for work, and was able to check out this awesome restaurant! It's a fun, tasty spot thats a must see. Their tacos were inexpensive and great to order! I had a cheeseburger taco, spicy chicken taco, and banging shrimp! The restaurant lived up to its hype, and the service was pretty good as well. I wasn't able to try the margaritas but the looked well made from a customers eye view. I'm sure it gets lively and crowded during the weekends, because it was packed on a Thursday afternoon. read more

5/10 - I've been to taco Lu over the years, I can say that it is very consistent and usually has amazing service. Depending on what you get, the food is good. I love the guac. The salsa is very garlicky but still nice. The chips are thick yellow corn, very good. I would recommend this place to a group in their 20's who want to drink, enjoy good vibes and don't mind a noisy atmosphere. The third time must be the charm for this place. I have been to Taco Lu a couple of times and I have never been impressed. But this time, the tacos I got were juicier, more flavorful, and the toppings were more plentiful than what I remember. I recall not being fond of the specialty salmon taco or the carne royale taco, which I found to be an odd combination of flavors - beef, grapes, and brie cheese. So before my most recent visit, I asked a friend for recommendations. Early on a Wednesday evening, I joined a friend for dinner and we ordered the banging shrimp taco, the carnitas taco, and the $10 taco. We also got a side of the Mexican street corn, which I really enjoy. These tacos were winners! And the best thing is that our whole meal was less than $20, which is amazing. Service was a bit lackluster but we didn't need much. I mean, we were just eating tacos. I never really understood why people love this place but I may have a little bit of a better understanding now. I can't say that I love it, but at least I had an enjoyable dinner on my third visit here. read more

Where do I start? This place is run by a bunch of college or high school kids. They are just there to collect a check. Let's start with the menus. As someone else mentioned 3 months ago, they have no paper menus...just the stupid QR code thing. My mother was with me and can't see well to pull up a menu on the phone. I asked for a paper one to be told they don't have any. I asked the kid what they do if someone comes in with a flip phone or even no phone...he gave a blank stare and said "idk, we have never had that". The biggest problem with these QR menus is that these restaurants don't have the slightest clue on how to make a website. In this case, they didn't even have any of their soft drinks or beers listed on the online menu. The food was just ok. I got shrimp tacos and the shrimp was clearly fried about an hour earlier as it was cold. Mom got the shredded chicken tacos. It was literally just chicken and a tortilla. We have been to Tacolu numerous times, but I have to write this review after another wonderful experience!! We took some out of town family here for lunch and they loved it as well. We started with the guacamole and salsa, and both were so tasty! The salsa was chunky and had a perfect kick to it. My brother in law got the chicken quesadilla and loved it!! I had Deb's verde and the salmon special. Both were so tender and tasty!! I tried my husbands bangin shrimp and it was fantastic, as always!! I also tried the mahi taco, which was tender and packed with spice! Everything was fantastic!! Our server, Daniel was attentive and quick. We had one little mishap, when a taco came out with cream on it, and the person had a dairy allergy. Daniel was quick to get the taco made correctly! The only negative is that sometimes the wait can be extremely long, so plan on that with a large group. read more

I love the variety of tacos that they have to offer and would recommend the Deb's Verde, the $10 taco (that is only actually $5), and the blackened shrimp taco. I've also tried the bangin' shrimp taco and that one is good as well. Be sure to try the queso! The food is so good here. Pretty authentic as far as I know. The servers are really friendly and helpful and you can tell they know the menu. I got the street corn and $10 dollar taco. I went there on a friday night and it was really loud and crowded (which is expected) but they did have a nice outdoor seating area where I saw 3 dogs, it was a lot quieter too. I brought the team here for a lunch to celebrate success. Parking can be challenging as many of the spots are reserved for valet. No problem getting a table for 10. Nice thing about Taco Lu is the ability for everyone to find something that fits their choice. Meat, veggie, etc. are all available. I"ve eaten Mexican Food in New York, Florida, New Mexico, Arizona and several other US States... after my recent lunch at TacoLu's In Jacksonville Beach, FL I can say without hesitation that TacoLu's is the absolute worst Mexican food I have ever eaten. I ordered something called the "Stacked Enchiladas." What I got was a pile of cold shredded beef with very little flavor, with two very thin and very sweet corn tortillas thrown in and the whole mess was smothered in a thick layer of melted cheese which had gone cold by the time I got it. The dish looked like a cheese cow pie (didn't taste much better). My wife ordered a "Carne Royale" which also came cold and without cheese even though the menu said it included cheese. The only positive I can say about this place is the service was good, the food, at least what we had was truly awful. By the way, most of their "taco's" are made with flour tortillas, not corn tortillas, I would call that a folded burrito not a taco. read more

The Hawaiian came on a flour tortilla with melted pepper jack cheese and a generous helping of seasoned pork carnitas topped with a pineapple salsa. To be honest, the level of meat in this taco was almost too much to handle. However, the Blackened Mahi made up for it. The Mahi came on a large corn tortilla with cabbage, mango salsa, and chipotle crema. The blackened fish was cooked just right and had amazing flavor. Would definitely order again. read more

This is a must go to eatery when you are near Jacksonville Beach. Great decorative atmosphere where the staff is friendly and helpful and the food is great. I come here every so often with my family and we always order one of their various taco flavors. They have a taco designed for every palate and I have enjoyed tasting most if not all of their varieties of tacos. I lasso love that they have a small packet of free chicklets you can grab on your way out of the door rather than the traditional mints you might see at some restaurants. Two thumbs up! read more

Really really good taco and large selection to choose from. 5 stars for the good tacos, minus 1 star for the wait times. They have 7 different fish tacos options, compared to most other places you get 1 choice of whatever they want to serve as a fish taco. My favorites was the bangin shrimp taco. A close second was the cheesburger taco. The baja taco wasn't as tasty as the others and I wound not get this again. Street corn comes out in a small bowl, it was good but only on top layer, after that it's just basic corn without much flavor. The wait for a table was just too long, about 20 minutes to get a table for late lunch 3pm on a Saturday, and once we got in it was obvious about half the place at least was empty, so no idea why the long wait, maybe they are just short on wait staff. Just a fantastic time! I order the sangria-Rita with a carne asada and jimbo taco. I think I finished the tacos in seconds! Delicious! The margarita was also delicious! I'm not a huge fan of the tequila/lime combo so this was just perfect! It's super busy here so make sure to be prepared to wait 30 minutes or so.
