I saw this place walking back to my car. It looked cute inside but I asked for outside seating so not sure about the size inside. The host was quick to seat and provide a menu. Everyone was very friendly. I went for lunch and it was slow service so might not be good if you're on a short schedule. I ordered enchiladas and you can mix and match. I got a spinach/mushroom and a chicken. It came with rice and beans. The spinach was fresh and not frozen. It was packed with it - a tortilla wrapped around sautéed spinach. I didn't get many mushrooms. Maybe two and they were canned. I almost forgot it was supposed to have them. The chicken was shredded, flavorful, and filling. Not dry at all. My confusion about the dish was the thick cheese on top. Was it mozzarella? Which would be weird. The menu doesn't say. I don't know! I couldn't tell!! The enchilada filling was just the meat or veggies. I didn't like the thick cheese. It made the tortillas really soggy. The green salsa was great but there wasn't much. I loved that they used corn tortillas. They clearly put the dish under a broiler since the plate was extremely hot. And the rice got dry and crispy. It actually was pretty good considering I'm not a rice fan. It almost seemed tomato based. I enjoyed the beans. Not sure if they were homemade though. The portion size was perfect for lunch. If I had it for dinner, I'd still be hungry. The prices were reasonable.

I've slept on this place for WAYYYYYY too long. Walked past a million times. Never went in! As Bob Ross says, there are no mistakes, just happy accidents. In this case, my original plans in the area fell through, so now I'm able to share this deliciousness with all of you!! It was breakfast time on the weekend, so I got some huevos con chorizo, comes with refried black beans and tortillas. And the margaritas were fantastic, with a tajin rim! Over all, I'm willing to come back for lunch/dinner because it was amaze balls!

Mexican is not one of my favorite genres, and it's primarily because the combo of my texture-based palate and the crunchy shizzle that hangs out in a lot of the food isn't an ideal fit. If I like a Mexican place, it's usually because it's very, very simple/no frills, and that's Tajin in a nutshell. I came here with my Skipper for lunch on Friday, which was a miserable rainy day, the kind where you're venturing out MAYBE one or two blocks from the office. The walk from the office took approximately three minutes, and we were able to get inside with minimal dampness. I don't think it would be fair to call Tajin a dive; (the Skipper might disagree based on her recounting of a horrendous bathroom visit) but it's a pretty basic interior, with some sugar skull-esque art on the wall, and almost a diner vibe when it came to some of the tables/seating. We sat towards the back, which had a view of the bar area where the waitstaff lingered, making it very easy to get someone's attention for a drink, the check, etc. This might not be a selling point for a ton of people, but I was THRILLED to look over, say, the quesadilla section of the menu and see two or three ingredients per item. You start to lose me at a certain point when the items are covered in peppers, onions, etc., so when I saw that the chicken quesadilla contained nothing but chicken and cheese, I didn't hesitate. The quesadilla showed up within a few minutes, and hit the spot. As you can see from the attached, it came with a small pile of guac on the top, which I spread around the top. The guac was a LITTLE crunchy for my taste, but was relatively smooth. Definitely some solid comfort food on a day where I barely remembered what the sun looked like. I also ordered a few passion fruit margaritas; the Skipper is far more educated about these matters and recommended I get the tajin rim (I of course obliviously went into this place not knowing what Tajin meant) which jived perfectly with the drink - nice little nip to go with the sweet. I'm pretty ambivalent about margs, having had a ton of bad ones that practically sent me into insulin shock, so it's always a pleasant surprise when someone mixes them properly and you don't end up crashing later. It was light and tasty, and I'd absolutely get it again. This is probably two or three blocks from a pretty hardcore touristy area, but it certainly gets some of that foot traffic. As a result, they could definitely charge more for the food/drinks but I thought it was very reasonable for the neighborhood. The Skipper had a glass of wine that was $9, the margs were $12, and my quesadilla was around $13, I believe. Given that there are nearby restaurants that unhesitatingly offer $40/$50 entrees, you could do a lot worse to your wallet if you wanted to. We're adding this one to the list for future visits. Convenient, cheap and tasty.

This little gem is close to the 9/11 memorial which was perfect for my walk on foot. When I was entering I was greeted promptly with a friendly face and ushered quickly in. The place is small but very bright and colourful. The tables all have a hot sauce on them for easy access to spice to the dish! The food is good and it's a big portion. I couldn't finish mine because it was so big. The food was filling and quite good. 5/5

Come to Tajin Mexican Restauran, it's a little Gem hidden on Greenwich Street in FiDi. My best friend and I are regulars. We come for the strawberry margaritas and guacamole and chips at least once a week. Today we ordered chicken and steak fajitas and they were absolutely delicious! The service is superb. The waiters are very attentive. The restaurant has a very calming vibe and great music. You can skip Stone Street and come here for a good time!

Family was wanting some Mexican food and we gave this place a shot. Food was very good but we felt like it took long to get the food, although we didn't think it was packed. Apart from that everyone enjoyed the food and we were so full by the time we were done. Service was great too

Got takeout from here for lunch and it was the worst Mexican food I've ever had. I ordered a beef burrito bowl and it was the soggiest meal ever. The rice was wet. There was so much lettuce, cheese and sour cream, which made the whole bowl mushy. The beef had no flavor and it was tough. It's like they just threw everything in the bowl and called it a day.

Just okay. We came here for a late lunch when a former co-worker was leaving for a new position. The place wasn't too crowded, the service was decent, but the food was just average. I ordered a burrito which was average at best; if my memory is right, I enjoyed the nachos a little more than the burrito I had. I'm not sure if the entire group wasn't as thrilled as I was, but I know for sure two of us weren't that happy because they mentioned it to me. I'd potentially give this place another shot or potentially return for drinks as this place is very close to my office--maybe next time I'll have a better experience.

Cute little place! I'd give it 3.5 stars. My friends and I often walk around New York. So when we feel like sitting down for a bite, we do a quick google search for local places. It keeps our taste buds open and ensures we don't eat at the same places every time. This restaurant isn't located on a busy street and it was kind of hidden/quiet which was perfect after our long day. The food was amazing, a bit pricey and the drinks weren't the best (I had a Piña Colada). I watched two other ladies walk up to the bar and complain about their drinks so I didn't feel too bad about not liking mine. The interior is warm and inviting, however I have had better customer service though this IS New York. Would love to know what you think if you go!

Just finished touring The Lady Liberty again and Ellis Island and on to Ground Zero and craving Mexican cuisine. We were seated outside. You pay for chips and salsa hence the three stars, that should come as complimentary. Just saying! You get to pay your bill at the bar (which is weird!). Just average - both the food and drinks. A colleague decided on Tajin for our evening outing. Of course, being the Yelper I am I was very skeptical of how our experience would be given the low reviews. We arrived around 6pm on a Wednesday evening and it was a complete graveyard. I was taken back by this because, I mean who wants to eat at an empty restaurant. I decided to be open minded with and decided to start off with a margarita. The mango margarita was wayyy too sweet so I sent it back. I ordered a classic in place of the mango and soon realized that their drinks are just sweet. For food, I went for a shrimp quesadilla with a side of rice and beans. In the meantime we add chips, guacamole and salsa. I have to admit, their guacamole was pretty good-fresh. Food came out relatively fast. The quesadilla was below average. Lacked personality... the shrimp was blah and the cheese was barely there. The rice and beans was average. If I'm being honest, I was nervous while eating my entire meal. The staff was really really nice. They constantly checked on us, making sure all was well. When something was off they made sure to make it right. Not sure if I'll recommend or not recommend-- it's just average overall! (My co-workers also agree).

This little restaurant is close to my office and convenient for grabbing lunch with friends or coworkers. The prices are reasonable (although there is a $10 minimum if you are using a credit card) and the food is tasty. I always get one of the burritos and I have never been disappointed. It can get a bit crowded around lunchtime, but the staff is quick and friendly. read more

Definitely more "Tex-Mex" than authentic Mexican, but pretty tasty. Youll definitely come for the food, NOT the ambience; it's a hole-in-the-wall taqueria, people! Courteous, attentive wait staff and wait times are minimal, which is particularly rare in the financial district. Gets my vote!! read more

Assuming you like Mexican food, Tajin could be the best sit down lunch near Wall Street (if you have a party of four or less). Delivers good portions for under $10. Unfortunately I can't pass up their chips and that means I often need a drink too, so I might escape at around $12. When it comes time for lunch, I do miss my old office in the Flatiron district, but I wouldn't mind if there were more places like Tajin or Sophie's. Even if the burritos aren't quite as good as at Uncle Moe's. read more

One of my favorite lunch spots in the area, it's reasonably priced with consistent quality and service, and my party is always in and out within an hour. The guacamole is very good and they actually give you a pretty good amount. The portions are very big and if you have guac and chips you can have an appetizer for your main course and be full. I highly recommend the tostadas. read more

I have been to Tajin many times and I always get the same thing take out since I work near-by. Their chicken quesadillas are delicious. Never disappointed. This place can get very crowded during the lunch time rush so plan accordingly. Great food and friendly service. Highly recommended. :) read more

Haven't been to the location but I have ordered from here on Seamless. Love the chicken ranchero tacos and the guacamole. One of my new fav Mexican spots in the Financial District. Yum. Delivery has been super fast and food arrives hot. Definitely worth a shot if you are in the mood for Mexican. read more

A must stop at restaurant !!! This place is small but AWESOME !!!! I like Mexican food and this is one of the few restaurants I will go to for it. If you ever come to NYC stop here. If you work in the area, order food from this place. Delivery is always fast. I retired months ago, one night recently I decided to surprise everybody at my old job with dinner. This is probably the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. They charged me for 4 drinks because I got refills but they never said that there wasn't free refills and it didn't say that on the menu. We asked him for chips and queso because we didn't want the salsa and he charged us for the chips,queso, and the salsa. The food was moderate but not amazing. Overall a terrible experience and I would not recommend it or go back to it at all. read more

It won't knock your socks off, but it's cheap and decent--an echo of the kind of Mexican food you might get in California. Albeit it's a bit of a bland echo, but if you live in the Financial District, beggars can't be choosers. read more

The staff are friendly and my food was ready within 5-10 minutes of ordering. Outdoor seating is a nice touch but there's nothing to look at anyway. The food, however, is just average. I'm not sure where the raves reviews pertaining to the chicken tortilla salad are coming from since it barely had any avocado and the lettuce was wilted. The house dressing on the side was nothing to shake a fried tortilla shell at either. Don't think I'll return unless I'm in need of a quick greasy meal to cure a hangover. read more

God, I miss this place so much. I used to work a couple blocks away and would order it at least one every couple weeks. It's no frills - actually looks a little sketchy on the outside and even inside but gets jam-packed for lunch. I'd like to order ahead then go pick up. The guacamole is phenomenal and the California burrito with chicken? I can't even think about it without my stomach growling...can you tell how much I loved it?? read more

This place was really good, and I didn't really expect that because I'm pretty picky about Mexican food. I had the California Burrito, beef. Went around 7pm on a Tuesday, populated but not over populated. Waitstaff attentive, burrito was $8ish, just the burrito no rice and beans etc. I won't be back because I'm visiting and I don't do any restaurant twice on vacay (I also don't do chains) but I do recommend this little Mexican joint. read more

This small place will get busy between 12:30pm and 1:30pm, it may be best to arrive before 12:30pm to get a table. I have tried two plates from here: Carne Asada - my favorite plate consists beef mexican style served with rice, beans, guacamole, sautéed onions and tortillas. The beef is a thin layer of meat and during the many times I have ordered it, it has never been dry. The price is a little more than I would pay but considering there are few good food options in FiDi, this plate tastes as if you cooked it at home. Beef Stew - small pieces of beef with potatoes, celery and carrots served with rice and beans. While I love to cook beef stew, this particular plate at this location has upset my stomach - twice! Not sure why that is... The service at their restaurant is pleasant. It is a small place, you might find yourself eating very closely with others. I have also ordered food, it generally delivers within the half hour and the order is always right. The portions are generous. I believe it is a family run business where the owners are always in sight and are very nice. I would choose this place over Dos Caminos, Rosa Mexicano and El Cantinero because the food is authentic. read more

Stopped in for quick lunch w little ones going between 9/11 museum and Statue of Liberty visit. Yum! Bummed to pay for chips and salsa (where I'm from they are complimentary) but they were delish along w some of the best guac we've had. Fries worry good for kids who don't like Mexican; veggie burrito was big and filling; quesadilla was perfect both with and without steak. Tiny bathroom but it's New York. I figured after eating here 10+ times I would give it a review. I work in the area and have tried three other Mexican restaurants and none came close to the food and service provided here. I've tried several dishes but my go to favorite is the beef enchiladas! So good and a must try. I always start off with their cheese quesadillas. I love cheese and this is very cheese serve with fresh guac. Service is great and was never disappointed. This restaurant is very packed during the lunch hours but you will never be forgotten. I definitely recommend! read more

I haven't actually been here, just ordered, but the delivery is on point! No mistakes are made (big office order). First time I had the salmon salad which was great, second time I had the chicken chimichangas which are delicious!! Love the salsa and guacamole and the chips are great. Good beef nachos too! Praise tha lawd we finally found good Mexican in TriBeCa because Dahlias sucks!!!! read more

What a great place! Super casual little spot, with really tasty guacamole. I got the veggie quesadilla and it was SO SO good; probably the best quesadilla I've had in a while!! Dishes: Guac Chips, Cuban Sandwich, Chicken Milanesa Sandwich, Chicken Chimichangas, Bistec en salsa verde, Steak Fajitas. Price of food: $9 - 15 Seating: Busy during lunch peak and after work. Some stickiness on tables/menus. Service: Very friendly and quick, whether takeout or eating in. (Takeout takes about 5 minutes) and they are pretty quick to refill water. Beans and rice are cooked well, nice creamy texture to the beans. Rice is fluffy and adds some filler. Their green hot sauce is on the spicier side. Guac is good. Salsa is alright, little white vinegar but I find the tomatoes lacking oomph. Decent overall. I come here for the chimichangas. Hearty, thick and crispy with a dollop of sour cream between two of them. These delights strike envy into the hearts of nearby coworkers and are also especially delicious immediately out the kitchen. You can also add $4 for an extra one. Sandwiches are alright, lettuce and tomatoes were fresh however the bread was a tad too thick for my liking. Meat is flavorful but not the most satiating. Overall, a bit pricier compared to nearby lunch options but is a lighter fare compared to Sofies. Do it for the chimichangas, splurge on an extra or guac for a nice $15 friday lunch. read more

Ordered dinner from this place a few nights ago based on Yelp reviews and wasn't disappointed. Food was delivered very fast, and exactly what I ordered. They even gave me some extra sauce as I requested. Fish tacos were a little bland, but the home made hot sauce made them perfect. Salsa and guacamole were made with fresh ingredients , unlike many other places that use caned tomatoes and frozen guacamole. Truly enjoyed the dinner, will be ordering again soon. read more

The food is substandard. I wouldn't pay for it again. I make better mexican food than this. My specialty is actually Chile Rillenos and,yes, I do the beans, rice and tamales to flawless perfection. No, I am not my biggest cheer leader. The guy that answered the phone this morning potentially robbed his employer of $13 as well as taken the $5 tip from the deliverer. Tajin is a 7 minute WALK from where I am located. The dude on the phone said : "I'm sorry that's too far." So I argued that it wasn't too far because I can walk there in 7 minutes. He spoke to someone in the background, apologized, and took down my order. The food came half an hour later. Luke warm. The deliverer gave my food a good shake for luck. Deliverers often do this because it brings them great tips throughout the rest of their day. I know this because I gave him $5 for a 1 minute bike ride. If that is not the case then the beans, chorizo, huevos, and corn tortillas had a crazy night of partying before getting ready to come to my place because it was a sloppy drunk mess all up in my bag yo. When I put my hand in there I stuck it into something creamy and luke warm, pulled my hand up and it was covered with brown, sticky, mush. As was everything else in the bag.
