I love this thai restaurant! You MUST get the tom yum soup and either the red/green curry. If you are a moderate spice eater, I would suggest a 5 or 6 spice level because level 4 has no spice at all. The only reason why this place doesn't get a 5 was because I've had better Pad Thai at Spices Thai in Carmel Valley. But this place is definitely a new fave :) read more

I met a friend here last week for lunch. This place is great! You can't beat their $8 lunch special. It comes with either soup or salad and your entree. I got the salad, which had a sweet peanut dressing. It was good, but I tried my friend's soup and I would say that's the way to go. I got the cashew nut chicken, which came on a big plate full of chicken, veggies, and rice. Delicious! I ordered it a medium, which was hardly spicy at all. The spice level really seems to differ from place to place. Sometimes at Thai restaurants a 3 means spicy! But, I could barely taste the spice with the medium, so next time I will try a little spicier. All in all, I think this place is great. My wife and I eat at Takhari Thai about once every 2 weeks. This place is great!!! Hands down you have to try the Pad Thai noodles and the duck over spinach for dinner. For desert the mango sticky rice is awesome. The service is great and the facilities are clean. Great atmosphere! This place is worth a try. read more

Best Thai food I've ever had. I have never been to Thailand, but I've been to many places in the states and this place is my favorite by far! The Tom kha soup was delicious. The staff is friendly and on top of their game. Minimal wait time for any of the food. Large portions and lots of flavor. The place is clean and well decorated. The pad thai at Takhrai Thai is hands down the best pad thai I've ever had in California and I've tried a lot of thai food in my lifetime including thai food in thailand. With Takhrai's mouth watering soup as a appetizer to their pad thai to their thai tea- I think this restaurant has set high bars for my taste in thai food. Takrai Thai has got tasty duck and soups with mass veggies. They usually don't make the dark plum sauce anymore, but word to the wise, it was very good (even if it probably did have HFCS, lie to me). I'm always looking for great Thai places and this one happens to be in my neighborhood. I've had great food there until the management/owner changed recently. I got the chicken pad thai and curry chicken. I would definitely get the curry chicken again but was put off by the super dry and flavorless pad thai. How do you mess up pad thai?!? I'd go back to Takhrai Thai again because it's the only Thai restaurant in Scripps Ranch, but the food definitely has room for improvement. :( read more

I stopped by Takhrai Thai last week for lunch. I had expected that a Thai food Restaurant in Poway to be mediocre at best. But I was wrong! I ordered the Panang Curry (Medium Heat) and was immediately impressed by the texture of the curry. It was creamy and delicious! I really could not have asked for a better meal. Used to have the best Red Curry in the county. But it was changed for the worse. Used to be a really nice orangish-red color, thick and coconut flavored. Now it is super dark red and watered down. Please bring the old recipe back! read more

I am committed to try Red Curry Chicken at almost every new Thai restaurant I go to. For me this dish tells so much about a place. The balance of spice, assorted veggies, quality poultry and of course how they flavor the dish is my barometer. My wife is the Pad Thai expert, but we will get to that. I really enjoyed the Red curry, good assortment of veggies, and they let you select your level of spice. The chicken was good and plentiful. The flavor was very good. Different from many curry's I have had, it almost had a sweetness to it. Of course I finished it in one sitting. The Pad Thai according to my wife was good not great, lacked a little flavor and could of used a little more peanut in it. She is a Pad Thai snob tho- growing up in Bangkok will do that to a person. I had the most awkward experience at this place. We came here on a Saturday evening because of LivingSocial, we like Thai food and we're always up for trying new places. The expectation was that we'd go over the voucher amount of $30 and pay the rest and tip. Simple and standard you'd think. The food was ok - it came quickly, which was nice. Got the Tom Kah soup, was very hot and had the nice taste of lemongrass I wanted. Spring rolls were good too. The pad thai was really sweet, but I was looking forward to my curry fried rice. Unfortunately it was just ok. It tasted almost stale, and they really hadn't chopped up the peppers finely enough or something, because I kept biting down on really hard, big pieces of them. I had to pick them out, which has really never happened to me with Thai food before. It was kinda strange, and too bad because I usually love curry fried rice! But the main issue - We only went over our voucher amount by about 3 bucks, and neither of us really carry cash and we had none so we figured, ok let's pay the rest and tip on the card. They had written on the receipt to please tip on the pre-discounted amount, which should have gone without saying, and to me it felt a little tacky and unnecessary. I'd like to think we didn't look or act like the type of people who'd try and stiff them out of a tip. The server wouldn't let us pay with the card, because we didn't reach the $10 minimum! I tried telling him, Sorry but we only have cards, or I will have to go check the car for change and count out some payment in quarters (haha, ugh. This was a joke and I hope they got that!).The hostess, who might have also been management, came over and got aggressive and gave us a lecture about how we were getting such a good deal and that we should tip on the whole amount. We never disagreed to do so! We both politely told her that we simply only had cards. So she says she'll make an exception for us, but we should add the tip to the rest of our check so she can run the card. In the end that's what we did (and what we would have done in the first place) but we would have left the place with a much better taste in our mouths had we not been hassled. It was really just kinda "WTF". Good service can sometimes balance out mediocre food to make for a welcoming environment (speaking of which, the place is FREEZING!), but the case was definitely not so here at Tacky Thai. read more

My husband & I wanted to try a new Thai restaurant & found this little gem. Clean Chic Thai decor, the dishes AMAZING! Twisted shrimp appetizer, Panang curry, Drunken noodles, Salmon choo-chi, & Mango sticky rice for dessert. Absolutely delicious! I am a stickler for customer service due to my career background & "Sherry" our waitress was lovely, courteous, helpful navigating through the menu, & sealed the experience! Customer service is truly a lost art, & finding all of the above at a reasonable price adds a value that most restaurants are lacking these days! We will definitely be going back! Delicious! The service was wonderful( and quick, although we went somewhat early on a weeknight). The food was outstanding and reasonably priced. The drunken noodles were yummy, as was the mango chicken and the curry was good. Our drinks were kept filled, and the waiter was friendly. Can't wait to go back! Update-12/8 Went back tonight and while the restaurant wasn't crowded, the service was awful. Slow, no drink refills without asking a ton of times and waiting, and I went with two friends, we each ordered a curry dish, and they brought one small bowl of rice for all of us to share. Then said it was extra to get more rice. What?! There was enough rice for one very small scoop each. That irked me. I don't know that I will be back after that xperience, service is a huge part of my dining out experience, and they ruined it. read more

Its really hard to believe anybody would give this place a good rating. The service was slow. Only one waiter for the entire restaurant. The food was the same quality that I could have cooked at home. Very bland non-spicy Thai food. The tom-yum soup and fresh spring rolls were good. Parking was easy. It took 5 minutes to get an order. 15 minutes to get water. 20 minutes to get wine. 45 minutes to get entree. I am glad I didn't have to work today. Ordered to-go and wished I hadn't. There's something about seeing a sit-down restaurants food in a styrofoam container that turns off your taste buds -- presentation is pretty key. Got the papaya salad, drunken noodles and yellow curry. All in all, this tastes just like your standard thai fare, with the yellow curry outshining the papaya salad and drunken noodles, but nothing to write home about.
