    General chicken

We got the dinner special for takeout and had high hopes because of the great reviews, but unfortunately we were disappointed. The general chicken was very chewy, the fried rice was overly heavy on the soy sauce, and the cheese puff and egg roll were not very good either. Lastly, this spot does not make in house hot mustard

Chicken and vegetables, lunch special with the egg roll , hot and sour soup and fried rice

I decided to try Tangs kitchen for a quick lunch, although it was typically after the lunch hours. They were not super busy, but the one waiter they had was really hustling which I appreciated. I ordered the hot and sour soup with the chicken and mixed vegetables lunch special, which came with the eggroll and fried rice . I enjoyed all of the flavors that are very typical of this dish and it was a good portion with me even taking a small box home for the next day. The Rice had a bit too much soy sauce. I would say in it this day and it was a bit salty for me, but other than that, the flavors were wonderful in both the hot and sour and the chicken dish.

My wife and I recently stumbled upon Tangs Kitchen, and we are so glad we did! Having visited this location prior to its current incarnation, I was genuinely impressed by the transformation. The new owners have created a vibrant atmosphere with their new decor, immediately giving the space a lively San Francisco Chinatown feel with its beautiful, rich red accents. The menu immediately caught our attention. The prices are incredibly family and student-friendly--a refreshing change compared to many other local Chinese establishments. We opted for the Dinner Combination for Two, which was a fantastic value and included the soup of the day, savory egg rolls, and delicious crab cheese puffs. For our entrees, I selected the Broccoli Beef, and my wife enjoyed the Orange Chicken. Both dishes were served fresh, hot, and savory with every single bite. Beyond the excellent food, the staff provided a professional and attentive environment that made the experience even more enjoyable. If you're looking for a local spot to enjoy a quiet, family-style meal with great food and great value, I highly recommend checking out Tangs Kitchen. It truly is a local gem!

Tang's Kitchen is a great local spot. Plenty of seating, flavorful food with generous portions, and reasonable prices. Everything tasted great, friendly service, and the decor was fun and welcoming. Would recommend.

3/23/25- In the area and wanted to try the new place- The value and portion sizes are very generous- Service is great and server very polite. Went with the crispy walnut chicken- Eggplant with garlic sauce and sweet and sour deluxe .. Flavors were good and food was hot.. I didn't realize the chicken dishes were battered and deep fried- -- I would have gotten one dish.. Nice quaint restaurant- Would come back if in the area..

    Generals Chicken lunch special

So far so good. This is a new place in the same location where the other Chinese restaurant closed. It's nice inside. Service was great. Food was delicious. I had the closest thing to orange chicken that I could find on the lunch special menu...I ordered generals chicken with no spice. It WAS sweet enough for me even though I am good with REALLY sweet stuff. Some people do not like too much sweet...they would like this a lot. My friend ordered sweet & sour chicken. She said it was great but that she thought I got more...I'm sure there is more chicken in generals chicken because there are no veggies. I was kinda envious of her onion and pineapple. (:-) I posted pics of each so you can see the sweet and sour chicken sauce is regular red sauce. Generals chicken sauce is different. They are very generous with the fried rice. I was actually hungry but only could eat half my meal. I had the rest for dinner. I would probably rate the food 4 stars. I bumped to 5 stars because their lunch specials are very inexpensive compared to other restaurants. So they get an extra star for GREAT VALUE. If you find this review USEFUL please VOTE!

We weren't sure how things were going to turn out after Soochow closed. Happy to report that everything was excellent. They have revamped the dining room somewhat. New owners have many new and unique menu items more focused on Szechuan cuisine. The new chef plates everything beautifully, and we both enjoyed all the apps and entrées. Waitress was nice, checking in frequently to make sure everything was good. All of the fresh vegetables were cooked to perfection. They just need to get the plumbing thing fixed with the scent, and it's five stars. Almost like a ptrap problem, it was there when Soochow owned it as well.

My third visit. Time to review.

Good service, good food with reasonable prices but they do not have a fountain drink station and only have soda in the can.

The chopped pork and brisket were okay, but we thought a lot of the flavor was carried from the BBQ sauce instead of the meat. The decor inside has that BBQ joint feel with some nice pig paraphernalia and Nevafa stuff. Shayla our server was very nice and courteous and made us feel right at home. My only critique involves another server who seemed very chatty with a couple who sat next to our table. She was talking with them a lot. She also made a comment after she noticed me taking photos of the inside saying "you can easily spot out the first timers." I think that's something a server should keep to themselves instead of mentioning it out loud. But that's me. I would've given this review 3.5 stars if I could just for that. But I'm giving it 4 because everything else was excellent. Would definitely come back again.

Yes, the brisket was actually INEDIBLE! It was dry, tough, rubbery, tasteless. The only way I could even power a couple of bites down was soaking it in the BBQ sauce. At least the chicken I had with it was moist and had SOME flavor. I had the grits and cheddar as one side and it's like they put them in a food processor. Grits should be gritty, not smooth like paste ( I promise I don't eat paste). The Costco applesauce was the best thing I had. We literally had to go out to lunch again. Our service was blah but at we were only charged for one meal. Not sure who finds this place acceptable, but I shall never return. Dammit! JimG

The BARBECUE PLATE -1/2 RACK OF PORK RIBS (6 BONES) comes with one side and a chunk of cornbread. The ribs were cooked perfectly and they were good sized too! I LOVED the HOWLIN' BOLD & SPICY sauce! Structurally complete but lacking in execution, this is the combo plate of three slices of brisket, three ribs and two sides (mac and cheese and BBQ beans). Brisket is extremely tender, but very under-seasoned and ribs do not have the expected "fall-off-the-bone" texture. It's not the worst, but it's a ordinary choice and nearly as bad as the great competitor that is in the neighborhood.

One thing we noticed right away was that the bonchon was already set on the tables before guests arrived. It wasn't a large spread--just a small tin of cheese corn and a divided tray with kimchi, bean sprouts, and fish cake--not sure how long they were left out and did look and taste dry. The servers seemed to work well together. Different team members checked on us, cleared dishes, served food, and helped other's tables. Once it got busier, they also used robot servers to help deliver food. We started with the salad with house dressing and the popcorn chicken. Both were good, and the chicken was nice and moist. For the BBQ, we ordered the Chardol, Ju Mul Luck, Hawaiian Steak, Tri-Tip Bulgogi, and Galbi (short ribs). Having eaten at quite a few Korean BBQ restaurants in Las Vegas, we noticed the portions here were a bit smaller. They also limit each round to three appetizers and four meat selections. Overall, the service was good, and we especially appreciated Eurie for being friendly and attentive. The only thing that concerned us was when another server changed our grill. Instead of lightly drizzling oil onto the grill, she forcefully squeezed the bottle, causing the oil to shoot out onto grill. It seemed like an unnecessary safety risk for both guests and employees. Our favorites were definitely the Tri-Tip Bulgogi and the Galbi. Both were flavorful and tender. The Chardol was good, but the slices were very thin and the portion felt a little small. The restaurant filled up quickly between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m., so it's clearly a popular spot. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would come back for the Tri-Tip Bulgogi, Galbi, and the teamwork displayed by the staff.

As someone who occasionally likes to eat alone, I really appreciate that. I've visited several times over the years, including recently under the newer ownership. Unfortunately, some of my old favorites aren't quite the same. I used to love their deep-fried oysters, which are no longer on the menu and have been replaced with deep-fried mussels. The kimchi stew recipe also seems to have changed and wasn't as memorable as before. That said, they still serve my favorite gopchang (beef small intestine). When cooked properly, it gets wonderfully crispy and reminds me of Mexican tripas tacos--definitely worth ordering. I'd personally skip the bibimbap appetizer. The rice was hard, the ground beef was cold, and it felt like it relied too heavily on the gochujang sauce for flavor. Even with those changes, I'll continue supporting this business. Service was also attentive.

The employee asked the owner if it was allowed, and his first response was, "We don't allow dogs inside." I explained that he is a service dog. The owner then asked for paperwork to prove it. At that point, I ended up showing my personal medical paperwork, something I should never have felt pressured to do. I also explained that as a business owner, he should know the laws regarding service animals. We decided to leave without eating because the entire experience made us feel unwelcome, embarrassed, and we completely lost our appetite. I hope this serves as a reminder that businesses should educate themselves about the rights of people with disabilities and the laws protecting service dog handlers. No one should have to disclose private medical information just to be treated with respect.
