I love this place. Not sure why they are only 3 stars. The service is warm and I love their roast pork and baby bok choy.

OK, is this place serving kung pao or kung "pow"? Despite a decently minced sesame chicken dish (yes, the finely priced $6 lunch deal), a mid-day snack turned ku-fung face-off between my fiance and the staff. It was difficult to swallow our food while watching several wait staff 'cleaning' tables by slapping the tabletops with their wet rags, hurling rice particles onto the floor and onto nearby settings. Gross. My fiance paid the bill and a tiny, yet feisty waitress (not the one who even served our food) brought back her change (minus the coinage!) and watched very closely to see what type of tip would be left on the table. From no more than six feet away, she stood by and shot glares fiery enough to overcook a helping of spring rolls, making for an awkward completion to our meal. Before we could even finish our waters, she hurried over, started cleaning up, pushed (read: flung) the tip tray closer to us in a not-so-subtle way, and angrily muttered something in her native tongue. We then decided it was definitely time to go and that gratuity was not in the cards for this broad at this point. Of course, the waitress was still watching us and as my fiance (a very non-confrontational Trader Joe's shopper) tried to get past her, the woman totally didn't move and got in my fiance's face! My fiance told the woman that she was rude, nasty and not getting a tip. This was reinforced to the manager on the way out, who didn't seem to understand what my fiance was trying to express until the angry waitress came marching after us, saying something in Chinese to the manager. Ugly situation. Do try to avoid it. read more

I never write reviews or throw out food. The vile shrimp dumplings I got for a light dinner motivated me to do both. They were undercooked, wrapped in a rubbery dumpling and devoid of flavor. read more

The older male server is rude, while your eating without asking for your bill, he then just puts it i your table. Why can't he wait until u asked for it or even until You finished eating. Didn't even stay long, I was alone by myself and just went to grab a quick lunch. Sometimes you will just be amazed how people could be. No matter how affordable or good your food is when the people you hire have a rotten attitude then your place will be as rotten as your workers. read more

The lunch special at any Chinese restaurant in New York City, is one of the best ways to dine for lunch in the world. On Wednesday, a friend and I met here for lunch and walked out spending less than $12! It was quite the deal for a bowl of wonton soup and a rather large portion of sesame chicken for one. The chicken was crispy and spicy, definitely recommended. It was also nice to see it come with a mountain of white rice, that helped soak up the tasty sauce as well. I will return here for the lunch special, and maybe try one of the authentic dishes on the menu. read more

Excellent chinese food. We had the filet with chinese brocolli and it was very tasty. Well seasoned and cooked to perfection, its one of the best I have had. We ordered take-out and it was delivered within 20 minutes. I could not believe how fast they were. We have never eaten in the restaurant so can not comment on that. I did not care for the egg rolls that we ordered- they seemed stale to me so I could not eat them. The fried rice was tasty, although seemed like it might have been sitting under a heat lamp?? Don't let the drab interior fool you -- Tang's Garden is a true Chinese food paradise! The veggies are fresh and expertly prepared, the meat dishes bursting with flavor. I highly recommend the crispy tangy shredded beef, shredded pork and pickled cabbage soup (divine), and the sesame noodles, which may be the best I've ever had. Of course for a healthy option they offer a wonderful selection of steamed vegetables with a variety of delicious sauces on the side. The staff is friendly and helpful. I ordered the lunch special (sesemi chicken w. white rice & spring roll). the spring roll was rather small. my "lunch special" cost $6.5 + $1.5 for the spring roll. i waited 10 mins for the food. the food in of itself was good - its something different other than pizza & mcdonalds. if the lunch special was $5.5 I would have given a rating of 5. read more

Great for takeout or pickup. Fast! Servings are plentiful and delicious. I get the shrimp and broccoli once a week here and it never disappoints. Boyfriend always goes for the spare ribs - tasty. I don't suggest eating here though too many Asian places in the areas with a better ambiance.t read more

I randomly decided to try this place one day, despite it's "drab interior" as another review put it. The food is typically pretty good I'd say. I think it has it's on days and off days, so that might explain some of the bad reviews. I've had delicious food here (dumplings, chicken and brocolli) and other times I've ordered the wrong thing on the wrong day. If you're getting takeout I'd recommend. If you're going to eat in, I'd keep it simple and you'll likely have a good meal. I've eaten in more than once and I actually sort of enjoy the simple ambiance they provide. And also, it sort of seems like it isn't very clean inside, but I have never noticed any dirt or grime or anything, I'd say it's fairly clean. read more

Cold sesame noodle mecca. I loved them at Tang Tang, I like them a LOT here at Tang's Garden. It's almost the same, but the cucumber doesn't seem as crisp, and the sauce seems a tad thicker. So I was starving and wanted noodles but not ramen. So I yelp Chinese noodles and this place comes up. I was really bracing myself for subpar because of the mixed reviews but my experience was pretty ok. I got the cold noodles and a side of pork dumplings to go. When I walked in i was expecting the place to be tiny but it was pretty spacious. I was greeted immediately by the hostess and catered to immediately. It was mildly busy but I wasn't expecting such immediate attention. I placed my order and stood off to the side but the hostess invited me to sit, which was sweet since at most dine in places if you're getting your food to go you stand in a corner. My wait was 10 minutes max. And I got my food and left. Cold noodles with sesame sauce- not completely sure if I got the right sauce ontop because this was my first time trying the dish but it was pretty tasty. The portion was generous and the noodles perfect. This sauce screams peanuts though so if you're allergic I don't recommend. Steamed pork dumplings- these were ok good dumplings, but a little wimpy in my opinion. Also the 8 for 6.50 seemed a bit steep. I'm used to Jersey dumpling prices. Even from the sidewalk, Tangs warns you away. You can smell the sketchy and see the distinct lack of patrons. But because I live nearby and exist almost solely on dim sum I figured how bad could they mess up har gow? Well it seems I have been put on earth to spare others from making the same mistake I did. The pork and shrimp dumplings redefine inedible. I had nothing else so I will not rip anything else but I am guessing there are few pleasant surprises here. Tangs but no tangs. read more

yes, this has got a different name in case you find yourself here, which is "Tang's Garden." i ordered once their 10(or more)-ingredient fried rice to go, and i thought it tasted so good and filling. the time i was there which was dinner time, it was not crowded---everybody must be in other restaurants in the area. but i can see that this is a good bet for a reasonably priced, non-fussed way of having dinner, both to-go or to-stay. this is actually a highly recommended chinese food place here by my friend who lives in the area for over 10 yrs now. i can see why....... read more

I ordered takeout from here today. I had the lunch special- I got the roast duck with brown rice and wonton soup. It was really good! The food was surprisingly delicious and the service was very fast. And you can't beat the price- $6.75 for a LOT of food. They were extremely busy when I came in with phones ringing off the hook, people sitting at tables and a long line for takeout. I can see why! read more

We have had take out from Tang's Garden a couple of times and it is consistently good. While I don't think the sesame noodles are the best in the city (they say that on the menu), they are very, very good (the honor for best goes to Chin Chin, hands down). The orange beef is delicious. They are really responsive to special requests; my wife has food allergies and they accommodate her perfectly. Their delivery is fast and their prices are reasonable. Best upper east chinese place by a long shot. Delicious hand-made dumplings (try their steamed little juicy buns, kinda like soup dumplings - so good), and great entrees (sauteed seasame chicken with zucchini is delicious and packed with veggies). I have been going to Tang Tang (Now Tang's Garden) for about 6 years now for one reason and one reason only: Shredded Beef Szechuan style over Rice. With the $5.50 lunch special, I take it with egg drop soup. Every time I go there, I order that, and sometimes some shrimp shumai. The spice is actually there! The veggies are always crisp and it's a great deal for lunch. I used to go to the local middle school but I specifically go out of my way to get there these days. I visit so much that the cashiers and waiters know me (Not quite by name, but they ask how my schooling is going.) The only reason I can't quite give it five stars is that outside of my go-to dish, the food is OK. Their food is great but tends to be on the salty side, especially the Lo-Mein. Out of the entire Upper East Side, this is the place for Chinese Food. Just avoid the lunch rush if you want to avoid the Lenox Hill/Wagner middle school groups. read more

Amazing quality food. The decor and advertising resemble any other of the masses of unfortunately cheap chinese restaurants. However, all of the items on the menu are seemingly made to order, and have very distinct and delicious taste. The General Tso's is crisp and spicy, the Sesame Chicken is very crisp and has an amazing ginger and orange sauce. Just "completed" a dinner from Tang's: ordered for delivery: The food was atrocious. Steamed pork dumplings were in-edible, (discarded after two bites-found bones in two!); the Little Bit of Everything soup was poor and had a rancid odor; discarded that, as well. Saving grace was the cold noodles with sesame sauce: (how can you screw that up?). Not great at all but seemingly edible noodles. Never again! read more

Tangs Garden is for diners who live nearby and don't want to travel far. The food is edible but very dull. There are really no good Chinese restaurants in the area so Tangs is as good (or as bad) an any. It's not expensive and it's quick. The staff is nice. Service was fast. Easily got a table at 12:45 on a Saturday. I ordered hot and sour soup, and General Tsao's chicken. The chicken was served with two mounds of rice. The food was thickly fried. The sauce flavor and the soup were good. read more

I love this place. I've gone here 10+ times and have never been disappointed. Always get take-out, but I see a lot of people eat here for lunch during the work day. Seems to be popular with the Lenox Hill group (lots of people in scrubs). Here are my favorite dishes: Celestial Chicken (spicy sesame chicken with mixed veggies), roast chicken wonton soup (delicious chicken in the soup, has bones, but was worth getting them out), shrimp with mixed vegetables (great vegetable variety). A huge contrast to the hustle and bustle of the UES. For me the sesame cold noodles and the 10 ingredient fried rice are my two favorite dices. Initially I thought the cold noodles were awkward as a dish in itself but after trying them here it's really changed my perspective. I went into Tang'd Garden today and was truly repulsed. I have ate from Tang's multiple times, their food tasted good and I enjoyed it. But one time I had and extreme stomach ache, and I even threw up... But I ate there once again and didn't have that problem, but today I entered the "restaurant" and was truly repulsed by a smell that was unbearable. It smelt atrocious, literally like the inside of a sewer. It even smelt like that from the outside it was that strong, and abundant. I am truly repulsed to know that, that smell was in the restaurant, mind you we don't even know how the kitchen may smell. Also the place just looks over all dirty and dingy, wouldn't recommend it!! read more

Food is alright. Little pricey even for a carry out. Delivery man is VERY RUDE and NASTY. I'm sorry I work in the tipping business too but he QUESTIONED why I'm tipped so little. Maybe I would of tipped better if you wasn't snapping at me for a better tip. read more
