I initially came to this place to find a replacement for Shophouse and it ended up growing on me. The style is similar to Shophouse so it made it easy to like. The inside is pretty small so I don't know how this place operated before Covid but if you just order your food and go you're pretty much set. The order style is similar to Chipotle where you choose your items through the line. I feel like the sauces could be intimidating if you're coming here for the first time especially if you're more on the picky/safe side like me. I know the first time I came here I was hesitant to try them. Even now, after all the times I've been here, I've only tried the peanut and spicy curry sauce, but they mix very well together! After a few times coming here I ended up trying all the veggie options and toppings except for the bean sprouts and jalapeños. A starch, protein, followed by sauce, and finally toppings (fresh mango slaw, peanuts, crispy noodle, etc.) I was a bit skeptical at first as the place itself felt very "chain-food-esque" - but I was wrong! I ordered the Rice Noodle bowl with 1/2 Chicken and 1/2 Shredded Braised Beef. Also added 2 sauces: Hot Red Curry and peanut sauce. I love how "California" this place is: organic, locally sourced, recycling and compostable bowls/tableware. I got a brown rice bowl ($8.98+ tax) with tofu and tamarind vinaigrette (I think). I then proceeded to mount my bowl with mango slaw, daikon & carrot slaw, roasted veggies, mixed herbs, bean sprouts, cilantro, etc. The end result was a mountain of delicious goodness. I had a great lunch here today with the hubs! What a wonderful find. It's another build it and eat it kind of place, think Chipotle, Subway, Pizza Rev etc. but Asian themed. I left with such a full bowl I will be eating for days! Everything was really flavorful and since I had it all, they really did go well all together. It all starts off with your choice of a base (rice, greens, etc), a choice of one of their flavorful sauces, protein (I recommend the chicken) and more veggies on top! My favorite bowl is a combination of brown rice, kale, chicken, satay sauce, Asian pico de Gallo, and crushed peanuts! (Pictured) Not to mention, the bowls are HUGE and you can get as many toppings as you'd like. If I don't have a big appetite I sometimes go for the kids bowl, which is slightly smaller and only allows for one scoop of ingredients from each category. I've been here a few times with co-workers and everyone who works here is friendly and great about providing suggestions for tasty combos. The only downside is the place has one large table that seats about 8 people and a row of seats facing the window, so either opt for take-out or prepare to scrap for a seat. I typically order a bowl with brown rice, hot red curry sauce (I found the sauce to be mild) and grass-fed five spiced braised beef. The portions are perfect, but I found the price point to be slightly high--it's about $2 more than a similar bowl at Chipotle. The quality and freshness of the food, however, is apparent. A tad steep for how much was given, in my opinion.The server recommended the Steak Satay for the meat choice, and pointed out that the meat is always fresh, as noted by the lady grilling steaks in the background. As a base, I got jasmine rice with the hot red curry sauce. All of the garnishes sounded amazing, so I got the whole lot - fresh mango slaw, grilled vegetables, curried spiced corn, asian pico de gallo, cucumbers & red onions, pickled carrots and radish. Also got all of the toppings - crispy noodles, crushed peanuts, and mixed herbs. "Thanks for checking us out!", the cashier called out as I was leaving. I'm glad I did! When I got home, I gave the bowl a good shake to mix everything up. The bowl reminds me of Korean bibimbab. The curry sauce was just right in spiciness, and the garnishes/toppings were flavorful and didn't clash with each other. Finished it feeling pretty satisfied. I love the idea and concept of this place. I mean who doesn't like the idea of a chipotle style asian food, but the combination of flavors just didn't do it for me. I ordered the 5 spice braised beef (which tasted a lot like Chipotle's Barbacoa) with the fish sauce vinaigrette, rice noodles, and every side except jalapenos. While the sauce & noodles were good and the vegetables tasted fresh, the combination of flavors just didn't do it for me. Maybe it was my combination of items, but I left the restaurant completely unsatisfied. If you crave rice noodles and fish sauce, my suggestion is to hit up a Vietnamese spot for vermicelle noodles with eggrolls and/or bbq pork. I am willing to give this place another shot (I'll order the peanut sauce and satay) and update my review accordingly. As of right now I would rate this 3.5 stars, I can't push it to 4 until I feel comfortable suggesting this place to others. On a weird note, I paid with cash and my total came out to $12.02, gave her $13, but found 2 cents in my pocket. The girl stated should couldn't give me a $1 (instead giving my a bunch of coins) back because she had already punched in the total, even though her drawer was still open. Like, you do realize if you punch in $1m dollars for the paid total, but still hand out the correct change, the cash drawer will still be correct. I kept seeing this place when I went grocery shopping and wanted to try it out but was kinda hesitant about mostly because I never really curve Asian cuisine. Alas, I came in for lunch today and it's safe to say I'll probably be craving this in the future. I got a bowl with white rice, red curry, braised beef and all the veggies. It's honestly so much better than I was expecting it. The curry save is wonderful, I'm pretty sure there's coconut in it and it's great. I got the braised beef as a suggestion from the lady making my food, it's really good and tender, I can't wait to try some of their other proteins.
