I'm the type of person that would cancel my whole order if you run out of boba. My drink just wouldn't be as enjoyable. I ordered black tea with boba, and made the mistake of ordering a large. Black and jasmine/green teas are standard, correct me if I'm wrong, and are the very basic foundation of these tea houses. If your other drinks aren't winners, you can at least make your basic teas taste good. My black tea tasted complimentary, and when I say that, I am saying that it tastes free....free as in the kind you would get at a typical Chinese restaurant, which I normally don't care for. It was bitter, watery and the sweetness was confusing. The boba was overcooked and tasteless. Now, I'd really wished they had told me they ran out of boba, so that I could've saved myself. Waste of five bucks. As a snack, we ordered calamari rings and fried scallops. We requested it to be mild, but it was way too spicy for us to even finish it. Most places offer sweet chili sauce to dip for their fried items, but this place didn't even offer dipping sauce. I had to ask for it and it was the sweet & sour kind that you would get at a Chinese fast food restaurant. Yuck. Overall, disaster. read more

Soo..this place is actually called Tapioca & Tea. It used to be Tapioca Express but..most likely for franchise reasons, it was changed to Tapioca & Tea awhile back. Anyway, I love coming here for their popcorn chicken and jasmine milk tea with grass jelly! It's basically all I order...simply because it reminds me of college when TapEx was on campus and was easy access! Oh how I miss those days...=( Their popcorn chicken, though some Yelpers seem to disagree, is the best I've had in the Sacramento area! All the times I've gone, the chicken was decently sized. In San Diego, they used to put basil in the popcorn chicken, which I looooooved. They don't do that here =( Sometimes, I seriously want to bring my own basil and ask them to fry it with my chicken order, haha. But it's okay because the flavor of their chicken is still soooooo bomb. I crave it sometimes when I go to bed at night, knowing I'll be working the next day only 7 minutes away with an hour lunch =X I always get it medium spicy and it's always perfect. One time, I thought I was a hot shot and ordered spicy and it was killer!!! But it was still so good, I finished the whole bag and ended with chili hot red lips. I think the first side of ranch is free and anything after is a quarter. I like this location because it's spacious, provides free wifi (for studying) and is usually pretty clean. The workers are really nice (at least to me, haha) and I like that my jasmine milk tea comes out brown and not yellow like at Lollicup. Their grass jelly is cut into decently sized cubes, too. The one thing to keep in mind is that all debit/credit transactions come with a 55 cent fee so I always make sure I have cash! read more

I used to frequent this location all the time when it was Tapioca Express but stopped coming back because of inconsistency. For several years, I had to find other places to go but its so hard to find a decent boba place in Elk Grove! I decided to make my way back when they changed their named to Tapioca & Tea. I ordered the jasmine milk tea with boba and YUM! It was delicious, now I remembered why I used to like coming here so much. On March 2013, they went under new management. I had a chance to talk to the new owner (Kenny) and the workers and they're great and super friendly. They are using the same recipes as the prior owner so don't worry about your food not tasting the same! My FAVORITE drink is their jasmine milk tea (iced or hot) it is so delicious! I also like their honey lemon black tea too. As for their snacks, I RECOMMEND their fried zucchini. Its such a yummy treat and their popcorn chicken is also a fave. I see they are constantly adding new items to their menu. Just on my recent visit, they are offering PANDAN waffles! Pandan waffles are a Vietnamese coconut flavored waffle and super light and fluffy in the center. Kenny (owner) told me they were working on added crepes to their menu and possibly egg puffs in the future. I LOVE BOTH crepes and egg puffs. There is ONLY one place that offers the Asian/Japanese style crepe so far in Sacramento, and a different location that offers egg puff. Both are about 20 minutes away from me, and IF I can get both of these in one location closer to my house, I'd be here ALL the time! He told me to come back in a few weeks to try their crepes, so I will be coming back!! Can't wait until my next visit. read more

They were having a $1 Thai Tea, if you had a twitter account and showed them. However, after ordering a thai tea for myself, and 2 from my cousin, he JUST told us that if we were follow him on twitter then we can get the $1 special. This used to be one of my favorite places to go study at because they had yummy hot popcorn chicken and delicious milk tea. It's under new management now and there's a guy worker there that's not so friendly. No one was in there when we first came in, but he was rude and seemed annoyed that we came. About ten minutes later, a friend of his came to visit and they were obnoxiously loud while we were studying. This place is often occupied by teenagers from the local high schools so it could get pretty loud also. The popcorn chicken and mango snow was good though and the lady working in the back was really nice. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place for studying, but the drinks are good. read more

What a hidden gem! This bubble tea shop is in the same plaza with Nathan's Chinese Cuisine and the kabob restaurant. The atmosphere was lounge-y and such a great place to meet with some friends for a chat or even to study. There's video game machines and many tables and chairs. I don't know why I have never stopped by here before. I got the boba milk tea and it tasted great! Just the right ratio of milk, tea, and sweetness. Their bobas had a nice subtle sweetness to them and perfectly chewy. I had a lot of fun just chewing on the bobas! The boyfriend got a green apple snow which he really enjoyed as well. I can't lower rating for this, but I found it annoying that the only entrance to the plaza was from the main road. You cannot enter the parking lot through the inner plaza. read more

I always see this place and never stopped by. Today after heading to the Post Office I decided to see what this place offered. We ordered the Vietnamese Coffee (iced) and the taro milk tea (iced). Both were very sweet! I'm curious to know how to measure the sweetness for their drinks. If you add more ice, then I guess making the drink sweeter will balance the overall taste as the ice melts that would make sense but the first sip and that did it for me. Also, the boba wasn't cooked well. The center of some were still hard and gritty. The Vietnamese Coffee has a nasty, bitter aftertaste and it was really to acidic for me. I tossed my drink and wished I went to Starbucks instead. The taro wasn't too bad. My cousin, who is 9 years old and has a sweet tooth, enjoyed it more than I would ever. Good place for studying if you can find a seat. An entire wall is glass, yet facing a breezeway, which allows for tons of diffuse light--perfect for reading. It's a shame only three tables have a power outlet and one of them is normally occupied by the employees. Free wifi is available but a bit flaky. Sometimes a page doesn't load correctly but if you refresh 2-3 times it works. I ordered an iced chrysanthemum tea and wanted it unsweetened. They already have a pitcher of premade sweetened tea, but the guy offered to make an unsweetened, but hot version. It wasn't the best I've had but wasn't the worst. Later, when getting the munchies, I ordered some popcorn chicken and the guy offered to top off my tea and add ice since it has cooled down. What a nice gesture! Popcorn chicken was hand delivered a sweet old lady working in the kitchen. I could tell it was freshly made. What happened to fried basil leaves? They must be out of vogue because I don't see them anymore from any boba place. There is no music playing, which is great for studying. The only sounds are the quiet hum of the equipment, occasional whirring of the blender, or the little kid in the corner watching cartoons. This is a nice quiet place during the afternoons, you see students studying but during the evening hours sometimes it gets pretty loud and busy with groups and groups of asians hanging out. They have an arcade game, i believe it is mvc... Food: We usually get the popcorn chicken, which is super tasty when it is super hot!! dip it in their sweet and sour sauce, it will taste even better. They come in a really good size. They have pot stickers as well, and we also get it really hot! The pot stickers are jumbo sized! We love our food here really spicy, even though our tongues go crazy and sweat pouring, we are still picking up the pieces! (Drinkin Thai Tea helps a lot, just sayin). Drinks: the sour apple snow bubble is one of my favorite drinks here during summer. thai tea here isn't sweet, which is always great! I never add boba! Another tasty drink they have is the coconut drink, oh man! Refreshing! They have a large variety of drinks for you to choose from... So try something new! Service: Usually there is 1 person working the register, and I believe the mom is cooking in the back. They are all very nice and efficent. TapEx was one of the default after-school hangout locations when I was in high school. Every time I make a trip here, majority of the customers are high school students hanging out after school. The place could have a better seating arrangement for groups of people though.. I've never gone wrong with fried calamari and crispy chicken here. The boba has a good consistency. This tap ex has been here a good while and has never failed to give me a refreshing tea or snow bubble accompanied with a pop corn chicken! Their boba is always chewy and sweet. I usually get a black sweetened tea or the avocado snow. They use REAL avocados!!! Its fresh and yummy! The pop corn chicken is crispy and is flavorful. I am sure they marinate it before hand. Service is great! Food is yummy n delish their popcorn chicken will not let you down. Calamari yummy n i told them extra crunchy just the way i like it. I had the milktea with grassjelly it was delish. Their tigermilktea delish. The place is big n chill you can sit relax on the couch do some studying or come out for karaoke night or anything. This place is located in the corner of a shopping center near Target. It's almost invisible. Anyways, it's your standard Tapioca Express. Nothing terribly special about this location or their offerings. I love the Thai milk tea. I always seem to order that one more than anything at any TapEx. This place makes a good Thai milk tea. I also think they are racist to non-Asians. Every time, I go in there the cashiers especially the female ones seem like they don't want your business. I've been coming here with friends for the past six years. They have a decent variety of drinks, and they don't make them taste powdery like other cheap boba places. But I wish they tasted like what they're supposed to taste like (strawberry and regular bubble milk tea tastes funny). Their spicy chicken and calamari are decent. I used to go here a lot when it was considered tapioca express years ago. Apparently they changed hands and I decided to go here close to 10 pm on a Saturday night. The guy making our drinks were pretty nice. He was willing to make my friend order of fried tofu even though the kitchen usually closes early and he gave me a free upgrade to a large drink because they had no more small tapioca. The service here was GREAT but unfortunately the peach milk tea was definitely on the sweeter end, so sweet that it actually tasted better once all the ice melted and it diluted down my drink. I am used to going to boba place which had daily specials so I can get a drink for super cheap but this isn't one of those places. Also i think it closes pretty early for a Saturday night. The Lollicup I used to go to closed down and I had trouble finding a new place to get boba. Anyways, we came across this new (to us) Boba place and decided to try it out. The drinks are definitely great and the food is exceptional (like any other boba shop). I generally get the strawberry icy (which is great!) even though I generally don't get these types of drinks. It's close by to a lot of things from shopping locations to schools, so you might get a few different people in here (all friendly). It's a great place to hang out! The staff is definitely welcoming. I've been here plenty of times, even when it was still Tapioca Express. But as time went by and they changed to "Tapioca and Tea", I feel the taste of the teas have gone downhill. They're not that great and most of them taste the same. I would say they all have a "flowery" taste to them. As for the snows and bubbles, those are pretty good. The stars are mostly for the service. This place has EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Everyone that works here have been very nice and helpful when servicing their food. I've only had one bad experience when the guy forgot to give us one of our drinks. (Like I said, I've been here plenty of times, and once out of those times is not that bad.) The one thing I will keep coming back for is the PANDAN WAFFLE. It's so yummy and it always fulfills my sweet tooth craving! I would definitely recommend it for a snack! The place is pretty chill itself, not too loud or in the middle of a crowded shopping center. Parking tricky sometimes if you don't know where to go. I usually park in the back so it's easy to get to other places. The clientele is mostly youngin's. Especially during the hot summer days the kids come here and hangout. I frequently see kids come here to play games on the arcade game thingy and their laptops. It's a pretty popular place after school and especially on the weekends. The Avo Shake and the Thai Tea are adequate. But as tapioca slowly makes its way to the mainstream, a number of small dives are popping up around Sacramento. There's no particular reason to go here, and many reasons not to. This restaurant is located in a doomed shopping center which appears to be conveniently near Target, but is in fact inaccessible from there without either driving back on to Bruceville or else hiking through a sandy ditch. Once you do get to the parking lot, the entrance is through a squalid corridor with visible dumpsters and pooled water in the rainy season. Once inside, you'll need to interrupt the staff from surfing the net so you can order. When sitting down, watch out for the broken ottoman. Or you could sit on the couch whose cushions contain more crumbs than a weekly cleaning would allow. Better just sit at a table. The flat-screen is generally off, and the magazines are generally three months old. The rug is so dirty that its print is indiscernable. The air conditioning is inadequate. There are appliances and other stuff stored in the corners of the dining room. The lighting is dim. In all, this place has a dinginess that would completely prevent anyone getting excited about the new drink in town. Indeed, most of the clientele seems to be here by default: kids who don't have a car to take them to a better place, and Pizza Guys employees on their lunch break. If trying Tapioca for the first time or the hundredth time, I would recommend the much more upbeat Boba Tea House on Elk Grove Blvd. read more

This is my favorite boba place in town, the drinks and boba are always fresh and delicious. They also make their snacks to-order and I love to get their cream cheese wontons, sesame balls, and chili-cheese fries. I love their avocado and coconut snow as well as their milk tea. This is a fun spot to play games with your kids as they have a variety of card and board games or to get some studying done. Highly recommend trying! read more
