Very disappointed. My mom and son went Saturday night 08/15/20 purchased four thai milk teas and one of them had a BIG COCKROACH. My son felt something different in his mouth and when he spit it out it was a roach. He felt sick immediately. Let me start off by saying the food and drinks are great, although the popcorn chicken could be a hit or miss sometimes. Yesterday while ordering I saw cashier yell and harass a family while they were ordering their drinks. There were some obvious miscommunication between the two parties but instead of trying to work things out, she continued to yell and ridicule the dad in front of everyone in the store. You could tell the dad felt really bad, and had to leave after because the lady told him to stop confusing her and tell her kids to order for him. The fact that she continued this level of disrespect after the family left .. just baffles me and how long she is able to get away this. Obviously I'm a regular here, I'm addicted to their boba for over a decade now. The gentlemen who takes my order during the weekdays is extremely nice and easy going so I don't fault the other staffs working there. But something must be down with the lady in front. One of my favorite treats in Union City. I can honestly say this is one of the most consistent places; since high school it's been the same. I love it and I enjoy the ambiance. It's loud, it's full of high school kids, it's vibey... but I like it. Hubby usually grabs a fruit flavored " Snow Bubble," a fruit icey drink. My go to is the Large Jasmine Green Tea, less sweet, more ice, with large boba (yes I'm complicated.) The popcorn chicken is always yummy, #1 spice is just spiced enough for me, (it's levels 0-10). There's so many options here you really can't go wrong. The variety of drinks, combos, snacks, flavors, spices... it's all endless. Don't be intimidated by the line either, it's worth it. read more

The pricing here is slightly pricier than Quickly's. The tea here is not like those powder styled tea, I supposed that they actually brewed it because I actually saw them making it when I was waiting for my drinks. Also. The owner was there to watch the new employees to make drinks and guided them without yelling which was pretty cool to watch lol. The inside has tables and chairs so it can be good for groups of friends to chill and talk. Or if you're a smoker, there are also chairs outside. I managed to stumble over to the Union City TapEx after having AYCE KBBQ in San Jose. Boba is always the appropriate and correct solution to the uncomfortable feeling of being overstuffed with meat. This is a great location, and as much as I normally don't like getting drinks from TapEx, I genuinely enjoyed my rose milk tea. The milk tea was not too sweet and artificial, and the boba was prepared with the perfect texture. Lots of seating here to hang out. Hip music for all the local high school kids. Delicious-sounding snack options that I'll have to try next time, including the classic crispy chicken. No need to have more pretentious and expensive boba places around when this TapEx location exists! read more

This place isn't as good as what I thought it would be according to the Yelp reviews. I wanted to take a friend out to get bubble for the first time and I should've gone to another place. The parking lot in this area was packed. Finding parking was a pain. We finally found one and went inside to get some drinks. The place itself was small, so don't expect a lot of room to move about. The line was long and we had to wait about 10 minutes to order our drinks. Finally got around to order our drinks but I was rudely interrupted by the cashier saying that pets aren't allowed and had to leave while I was talking. I was carrying him of course but I would appreciate it if he showed empathy like a normal person. I was trying to get the situation under control because we just wanted to get our drinks and was in the middle of placing the order and I was taking my credit card out and he said that they don't accept credit cards. In my head I was like WTF is wrong with this place not putting up signs so customers know what to expect? He then proceeded to tell me to leave... I could've sassed the hell out of him but since I was with my friend I decided to shrug it off. After him telling me to leave, I had enough and just took out my cash and told my friend what I wanted and went outside. They had outside seating, thank God, but the first chair I sat in was broken... Changed tables and chairs until we were comfortable. Anyway, the skinny, tall, guy needs to learn about customer service and this place needs to put up signs. They already have a bunch of signs outside, might as well add no pets nor credit cards allowed. Their bathroom was also vandalized. You could tell they have a problem with keeping it under control because you could see the graffiti painted over. The one TapEx that's actually not bad. I used to go here ALL the time after school. The drinks have always been consistent the past 8 years. Some tend to be on the slightly sweeter side, but most are just about right. I tend to get the jasmine milk tea, but I've tried many items on the menu. Some drinks that I really like are: mango-peach snow bubble, strawberry-kiwi snow bubble and the Thai tea. As for food, try the popcorn chicken here! While they aren't the biggest pieces of chicken, you get a lot for what you pay, especially if you do Combo A - a drink and popcorn chicken for $5. I normally get level 3, which is medium spiciness. Go for 5 if you're daring. Service is alright here. They get the job done, and that's about it. There's normally a bunch of people here all the time, but they get through drink orders pretty quickly. Notes: - Bring cash if possible because it's a minimum of $20 for debit. -__- AND there's a $.49 fee - Get a stamp card. I love tapioca express. I've been coming here for ages! Milk tea here is different from all other places. You can decide if you like it or not. I don't mind it and actually crave that taste at times. Some of my go to orders are Combo E (fried calamari), Combo F (popcorn fish), and Combo C (cold noodles). If you never tried cold noodles I recommend !! Really refreshing on a hot day paired with a green tea. Popcorn chicken here is alright. They don't really give you a lot compared to Mr. Green Bubble across the street. But for me, I think flavor wise they win. Additionally, I've had fried string beans, fried dumplings, and chichi fries which I don't get often but it's nice to get once in a while. What I don't recommend is the fried fish ball. They fry it cut in half which makes it really dry with a rubbery texture. When I come here, I like to try new drinks. I haven't been daring with flavors like cherry and blueberry but maybe one day. Some of my favorite fruit flavored mt are passion fruit, peach, mango, and lychee. I really like rose green tea as well. If you're feeling for something cold, rose icy is delicious and refreshing and has a great rose flavor ! Lemon SB, Orange SB, and Passionfruit SB are my favorites to pair with basil seeds. Although problems with Vietnamese and Phillipino gangsters loitering outside plagued this establishment in the past, all that riff raff has now been cleared out to provide a safe haven for respectful, paying customers looking for some snacks and drinks. The best thing is that although most of the patrons are not East Asian, this place retains the cuisine's Taiwanese origins by employing an entire staff of Chinese/Taiwanese who speak Mandarin, with a few who can also do Cantonese. Best of all, the employees are loyal, and turnaround is low, so they all recognize you after awhile, and even remember your favorite drinks. There is nothing I hate more than walking into a Taiwanese boba shop, only to find the workers aren't Taiwanese, or even Chinese. The most obvious cue is the menu. If there are no Chinese characters on the wall, do not go there! Well, no need to worry about that here, as the bilingual staff can help you no matter which language is more prevalent in your life. Most of them are quite courteous, and easy to strike a conversation with. The specialty here is the pepper fried chicken. Once you step in the door, you are immediately hit with the aroma, and you will instantly be hooked like crack. You can order from a scale of 0 (non spicy for you wimps) to 5 (max spicy). Although I can certainly handle my spices, I find on the number 5 that the flavoring is excessive, and masks the actual taste of the chicken, so I usually choose number 4. The milk teas and snow bubble drinks are pretty standard fare. Plain milk tea is actually quite sweet, and may not be to everyone's liking, however. The green tea is quite delectable though. This used to be the hangout spot for racers in the past, but they have all moved on to other various locales in the area. It seems like it's not as popular as it used to be, since on occasion, I find I am the only one in the entire place, which would have never happened two years ago. HOWEVER, the short haired lady that they have working the cash register and taking orders is very rude. With no people skills and a extremely bad attitude, she should be a person who is preparing the orders in the back, not taking orders up front. Some days the girl has a really nasty attitude, another time a different girl is really sweet. Doesn't matter to me, as long as I get my order and it's how I want it to be. However, to be perfectly honest the boba here isn't something to rave about to all your boba friends, family, and the newbies to the boba game BUT it does get the job done! It's also super affordable, depending on what your drink choice is and if you feel like getting a little something to munch on! Any TapEx I go to also makes me feel quite nostalgic. Because despite the fact that TapEx has its competitors that have entered and are making strides in the boba game, TapEx always has a nostalgic place in my heart because it was the first place I ever even tried milk tea. On the weekends they don't close until 1:00AM! :) Cravings fulfilled! (Note: Weekdays = 11PM). Normally come here during lunchtime. It can get busy since Logan High School is within walking distance. Food is ready in a sufficient time. My only issue is Customer Service. The same lady is always taking the orders and she's just rude. The other workers are also rude. I'll ask for a bag and they'll just stare at me and then finally give it to me. I even pay them $.10. Ok so being the super picky boba drinker that I am, I must say that this particular Tapioca Express has THE best regular tapioca milk tea everrrr!! Seriously. I thought SoCal had it all: the food and drink places. Until I found this particular location last year. I live in Berkeley, and would drive all the way out to Union City just for their milk tea and popcorn chicken combo. It comes out to $6, which is pretty standard. The spicy rating of this place is rather high though. I usually enjoy spice, but can only handle a 1 here. I can't imagine what a level 5 would do to me, make me cry buckets probably. But their milk tea! Wow. I've been to Taiwan twice within the past 4 years and had boba practically every day to the point where I got sick of it for a while. And I must say, that this place's boba matches up the best to Taiwan's out of ALL the boba locations I've ever tried up and down California. I think it's the creaminess of the drink. I'm not big on tea, so they put just the right small amount for me. The actual tapioca balls are okay. Not the best I've had, but the milk tea more than makes up for it. So if ever you're around Union City, or even far from there, go try this place out! You really won't be disappointed (unless you're a big tea flavor fan, then maybe...). This is my favorite Tapioca place to go to! I've been going here since high school and no matter how many times i go here I am always satisfied! I absolutely love they Snow Bubble drinks. A lot of my friends just get milk teas because they're cheap, but for a few cents more I will always pay for a more satisfying, thirst quenching, and cooling drink any day. I usually order the Mocha Snow Bubble with pearl and no whip cream and it is just amazing! I've tried other flavors like Green Apple, Caramel, Honey Dew, Watermelon, Thai Tea, Chocolate, Mango, Peach, Strawberry, etc. All of them are delicious! They taste exactly as advertised and are all very refreshing. The mocha is just perfect for me because I love both chocolate and coffee and this is the best of both worlds. However if you would like something more on the coffee side make sure to try the Brazilian coffee flavor. It's strong but yummy. The reason why I like this place over Quickly's, Q-Cup, etc. is because their drinks are not made with powder. When I go to other places, you can see how the liquid was originally formed from powder as some of it sticks to the wall of the cup. This place makes sure not to skimp out on flavor! Also the way they blend it is perfection! Whenever I go to other places or even other Tap Ex's, there is always chunks of ice that I end up chewing on (booooo). This Tap Ex always makes their drinks super smooth. with no ice chunks and the boba is very fresh! Lastly, I love their spicy crispy chicken. I've honestly never went to another place that made these better. Besides the awesome spices and the chicken being fried just right, the fresh basil on top is the kicker. I always eat the basil with the chicken since it adds so much flavor. I remember the chicken spice going up to 10, but I guess it was just too intense. The highest I've ordered is a 5, but 3 is just right for me. Definitely enough spice for me to notice and enjoy it. Tip: If you get the #5 spice on the crispy chicken, make sure to upgrade ($1) your drink to a large cup! You're gonna need it! I came to this plaza with a friend in efforts of finding some more Pokemon for Pokemon GO haha--and also to quench our thirst after a hike (although tea is a dehydrating liquid). As a person who works at another boba place, I have my own bias, but I tried to come into Tapioca Express as unbiased as possible. To start, the service was very unsatisfactory. I usually don't like bashing on customer service, especially because I have been in that position, but I feel like it should be addressed. First, the cashier was talking to another coworker while I was standing in front of the register, waiting for her conversation to finish so I could order. And then, I gave her my debit card to pay after I had ordered. I was not aware that debit cards get charged an extra $1 until I saw that my $3.45 drink became $4.45. I asked her about it, and told her I could pay in cash instead. All she said was, "sorry, you already paid." and slammed the register and gave me my card. The latter was partially my fault, I will be honest, but I just wish the cashier dealt with it better--perhaps by not letting the payment completely go through, or refunding the order? But alas. By the time I got my drink, I was just whatever about that extra dollar, but I was hoping my drink would be refreshing (I got a Passion Fruit Green Tea with tapioca btw!!). However, I took one sip, and was just disappointed. The tea itself was fine, although it definitely tasted artificial. Furthermore, the tapioca was too soft, and it didn't have any distinct taste. It was not worth the extra dollar, let alone the $3.45. The only reason for the 2 stars is for the ambiance and the location. The ambiance and the interior decoration is nice, and it would seem like a nice place to go in the evening with friends. Honestly I am not the type to leave yelp reviews even when I have received bad service ... but this will be my first yelp review. I have been going to tapioca express for a very long time but never had an issue w the service. Till yesterday I have to say the employee that has glasses and hes a little tall was wearing a black long sleeve. Monday afternoon he was taking my order was extremely rude and impatient. I placed my order that included one fried calamari and one popcorn chicken, he asked me how spicy for both I said number 2. I believe somehow he made a mistake because he was in a rush and accidentally thought put in 2 orders of popcorn chicken instead. I saw my receipt later on and saw he charged me for a random item that I did not ask for. I very kindly let him know and asked him what this charge was he gave me. He looked very annoyed by this and didn't even acknowledge his mistake. He then took money out the register as my refund (WITHOUT PROPER CHANGE MAY I ADD)and slammed it on the counter to giv to me. In no way was that provoked I was not being rude at all but he seemed to take his stress out on me because it was getting busy. Usually I am very understanding in those situations but this was very unnecessary for him to act like that towards me because of a mistake HE made. Especially when I was being polite the whole time. I hope there is a chance you will talk to him about having better customer service because this interaction was very unpleasant for me. I used to go to Tap-Ex a lot back in my high school days, so even though it's probably my least favorite boba place in the area the nostalgia still drags me back here sometimes. The drinks are powdery and the boba is a bit soggy, but Tap-Ex elicits a feeling deep down that brings back fond memories of my childhood. A huge plus is that it's open later than the other boba shops in the area, so if it's the only option available, can you really complain? Don't forget to bring cash! read more

This Tapioca Express is in the same plaza as Daiso. A regular milk tea with tapioca will be $2.95. If you dine in, they will charge tax, otherwise take out is no tax. There was a rule that if you dined in, it was minimum one drink per person, which is weird. I guess they don't want loiters that don't bring in any business. The milk tea itself was extremely sweet, even after letting some of the ice melt in the drink. The boba was nice and chewy. My favorite Tapioca Express location! They have a variety of drinks and a variety of snacks! I always get either the Almond Milk Tea, Tapioca Milk Tea, or Peach Black Tea! With SMALL pearls. Always small. It's the best. This was my go-to place after school. It is really refreshing here. I love it here because of the small pearls they have! They never run out! And the chicken is so satisfying. I also like to go for the fried fish! It's the best here. It's definitely not like the fish sticks some stores give.. it's legit FISH.
