Busy little place in Coronado on a Sunday morning. Waiters moving around but even though they saw us, we were not acknowledged for about 10 minutes. Once they did, there was fortunately a table available. We were seated but weren't given any menus or silverware. We just got the menus ourselves. The case of desserts and pastries looked divine. We ended up getting paninis and salads, which were tasty. I try to give as much grace to the staff during the pandemic. Although not as attentive as I'd expect, the staff was nice. Went for brunch on Sunday and had a nice experience sitting outside with my bike on the patio. Friendly service and very relaxing spot. There is no alcohol menu here and their breakfast options are mostly limited to breads and quiche. The ham and cheese quiche was fabulous very creamy and soft with a nice crust on the bottom. The chocolate bread pudding is to die for!!! Coffee is also excellent. Would definitely come back for the bread pudding alone! read more

Hubby and I spent a few hours in Coronado and of course, I found Tartine searching on Yelp for a coffee shop. Tartan is located on 1st street, not too busy of a street, but it was crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Some of the outside tables were reserved, but they had plenty of seating available inside. They offer many items on the menu, from baked goods, to desserts, to pizza. If hubby wasn't so hangry, we probably should have eaten here instead of the 'touristy' pizza place by the ferry. But it worked out perfectly for dessert! We sat outside and split the Vanilla Mascarpone Cheesecake with a pot of Mighty Leaf Vanilla Bear Tea and a Coffee. Our cheesecake was amazing. It was smooth, creamy, with the perfect amount of sweetness. I also enjoyed my cup of tea. It was such a gorgeous day in Coronado and Tartine's outdoor dining is great for people watching. In terms of service, the host promptly seated us upon entering the restaurant and our waitress (said it was her 2nd day) was friendly and kind. This place never disappoints. The quality and quantity of their menu is superb. Their salads, appetizers, desserts and wine selection is superb. I've been hanging out at this place since the day they opened. I always come for their arugula with curry chicken salad ( if no arugula, mixed greens) and their Pate plate. The place can sit no more than 50 people inside but they also have outdoor seating where you can bring your dog. They provide a heating lamp as well as water bowls for your pet. The ambiance inside and out is wonderful. Parking can be tricky and make sure you bring some coins or a credit card to pay for parking. Just go and try it. My husband had- Pan seared flat Iron steak with Cabernet sauce, arugula, Gorgonzola and tomato salad and ponme fries. Always a hit. My husbands orders this every time. This was already my favorite restaurant on Coronado just because of how yummy their food is, but tonight's experience sealed the deal for how much I love this place. It's my mom's birthday so I went to pick up salads for us to bring home COVID-style. When I got home, we realized there was chicken on my salad (we are pescatarian and ordered salmon on top). When we called to ask about it, the manager offered to deliver a new one to our house no charge. The manager (or maybe owner?) arrived soon after with a yummy replacement and a free lemon tart! My family stumbled upon this little bakery while we were walking around Ferry's Landing this past week. We were very excited to try this bakery as they had a lot of options for customers to choose from. Collectively we had: a lemon cookie, a chocolate chip cookie, a brownie, a scone, and and the vanilla bean tart. I would say we all thought our desserts were about 3 or 3&1/2 stars. I think we were expecting a little more moisture and flavor especially for the price we paid for the treats, but overall it was pretty good and a fun place to try. read more

Although a full service restaurant this is one of the very best bakeries in San Diego (Coronado). We were there on Mother's Day and grabbed some scones and lemon cookies. They have a wide array of scones, pastries and cookies. We didn't get to take advantage of the outdoor patio, but there is a cute little park just across the street which has a great view of downtown San Diego. We have been going to Tartine for 16 years and they continue to serve wonderful food with great service. A few family favorites are Curry Chicken Salad, Quiche, Clam Chowder (or any soup), Beef Stroganoff, Flat Iron Steak, Pastas and assorted pastries and desserts. The chef nailed the Greek salad perfect amount of dressing, good quality Kalamata olives, red onions, light herb vinaigrette was delightful. THE BEST GREEK SALAD IN CORONADO. Stopped in tartine today during peak lunch hours, the place was packed. Definitely not a good stop if you're in a rush as they were really busy but a nice atmosphere to hang out. I ordered the Gorgonzola baguette with pears and it came with mixed greens. The mixed greens were just that- mixed greens tossed lightly in oil (very simple). The last few bites of my baguette was hard to take- super cheesy. I think I made a poor ordering choice as a sandwich packed with only cheese and pears isn't much of a meal. I think it would've been a nice choice complimented with one of their wines and split with a few people as a finger type food. It was to rich and cheesy for bulk of a meal but good as a smaller finger food portion. The desserts looked magnificent and I'll definitely be back to try them! I think this would be a good spot for dessert and tea/coffee or snack sharing rather than full lunch. My friend ordered the prosciutto panini which he said was 3.5 stars but a bit salty. Been visiting Tartine since they were first on Coronado. Many good memories here. Came by today to pick up a few pastries and a coffee with extended family while in town. Was treated rudely by staff who wouldn't allow us to sit on the patio while we got our to go orders and I used the restroom. There were many open tables. Hardly anyone there. It was an interesting feeling to be welcomed to spend our money, but not welcome to sit on the patio for 10 minutes. Super disappointed, and won't be returning anytime soon. read more

Price to portion, a little more than average Take a seat and wait forever for service... service was slow with constant reminders of "your server will be here shortly". The staff handling to-go orders at the register and the staff cleaning table were kind enough to handle my order because "your servicer is busy, I can take your order" and saw me sitting there for some time. I hope my tip money went to them instead of my server who came to my service AFTER I've already paid the bill and asked if i needed change. I didn't come here for breakfast, I came here for an afternoon dessert. And to be honest, I wasn't even a fan of it. Chocolate Mousse - Velvety chocolate mousse on a thin layer of chocolate cake. Sure, it looked amazing behind the glass case and the first bite will make you say "oh that's chocolate". Presentation was beautiful. But it was just chocolate on chocolate on chocolate; OVERKILL. Chocolate cake outer layer, chocolate mousse filling, chocolate swirl frosting, and then garnished with a triangle piece of chocolate bar. It was so sweet and rich its hard to take anymore after 3 bites. A staff member walked by and asked "you don't like it? too much chocolate?" and after saying it was just TOO much chocolate he agreed and said "it is too much chocolate on one plate". I love chocolate but not when I'm drowning in it; it was death by chocolate. I had to ask for a 1/2 glass of milk just to help me ingest and it still wasn't that much help. If the pastry chef reads this, I hope they tone the chocolate down - add in another flavor and texture just to break up the chocolate. Not worth the $8.50 in my opinon; especially when a portion can only be taken in. Maybe I'll come here for a nice lunch and a glass of wine next time... but dessert, no thanks! We were walking around Coronado having a wonderful day when we got the urge for some sugar. A quick Yelp search and we were on our way to Tartine! The place is quaint, with a real old European feel to it. We walked in and decided a coffee was needed to pair with the desserts we had in mind, so we ordered and sat down. The coffee came first, lattes. They were simply delicious and just the thing we needed while resting our weary legs from our stroll through the neighborhood - people should really walk outside more, it's quite pleasant! Then came the dessert: creme brûlée. The crust was nicely toasted and required a furtive thrust with a spoon to crack, while the inside was creamy, smooth, velvety and sweet. If your mouth isn't watering right now, you must've lost your taste buds or you just don't like sweets. For the rest of us though, this is a place I'd recommend. They had a great selection of sweets and treats that made our decision difficult since it all looked so damn good, but that also means there's plenty of variety for you to choose from. If you weren't planning on heading to Coronado any time soon, maybe now's the time? Just stop by Tartine when you're there, you won't be sorry! Cheers! read more

Second time been here. They keep being adamant about reservations....first time couldn't sit outside even though there were available tables. Had waitress just put bill on my table and said have to leave due to reservations. Not ask if I still want to order food or anything. There were still some open tables. Couldn't believe it. I guess this is a coffe shop that doesnt like doing business at the register for take out orders. My wife and I stood there and were passed over by three people before we finally were blessed enough to he able to order. The staff made it clear we were not wanted. We came here for breakfast and the selection was somewhat limited, but the food was good. My husband had the spinach quiche and loved it. I had toasted ciabatta with cream cheese and homemade jam which was good. Our 2 year old daughter had a fruit bowl - there wasn't much else on the menu that she would eat. We see servers just standing around and tending to other tables but no one came to our table. After 15 mins, we flagged a server down and asked him to take our order.
