Whenever I get a chance to visit Taste, I always leave satisfied. Last week, I went to Taste after 2-3 years. The service has improved tremendously since I last visited. The ambience is nice,clean and open atmosphere. I ordered the traditional Cajun fried chicken wings, collard greens, macaroni and cheese. The wings and collard greens were delicious! Even after all these years, I'm still not a fan of the mac and cheese. It's not as flavorful as the other dishes. For my drink, I ordered the sangria. Which was delicious and refreshing. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend checking out Taste bar. I'll be on a mission to visit more often this year. read more

Was visiting and was given this as a suggestion by our hotel. The food was excellent, however, the service could use some help. My wife ordered a lavender lemon drop martini and the server asked if she wanted tequila or vodka with it. Martinis aren't made with tequila. Drinks were delivered. I ordered a Tito's and lemonade and there was no ice in it. My wife was served a lavender margarita. She recognized immediately that the drink had tequila. After a few minutes we were able to get the servers attention and let him know. He took the drink back to the bar and a couple of minutes later came back with it and said the bartender made her cocktail with Tito's. A manager came over and asked what the issue was with margarita. Told him that the issue was she didn't order a margarita and had ordered a martini. She declined the drink and ordered the same Tito's and lemonade that I had ordered, which was also served warm. When I received the bill they didn't take the wrong drink off the bill. But discounted her Tito's and lemonade $1.20. At the end of the meal we had asked for the bill. The server returned and informed me that since we made our reservation on Open Table they collected a $50 per person fee to secure the reservation and it clearly stated it would be applied to the bill. No issues there. I've been to restaurants before that do this. Protects the restaurant on no shows. But the server said that our bill didn't reach that $100 threshold. The bill he brought was $80 and change. I asked if the tip could just be applied and get to the $100. Now the same manager returns and says that the $100 fee is intended to be non refundable but will make an exception for me and showed that he refunded the reservation fee. Looking over the bill before giving them my card they already had a 15% gratuity built in to the $80. I can't ever remember going to a restaurant that had the gratuity already built into the check total unless it was a large group. Good food. Poor service. read more

Went to Taste Bar + Kitchen for happy hour on a Tuesday and got there right before 5 p.m. We were seated almost immediately, which was nice. For happy hour, we ordered the wings, a lemon drop, and the cheeseburger sliders. First thing to note: they don't let you bring your water bottle to your table, so they held my Owala behind the host stand for me. Not a huge deal, just something to know before you go. The service was good, but the food does have a bit of a wait. Even though it wasn't busy when we got there, it still took a little minute for the food to come out, so I'd expect it to take longer during busier times. That said, everything came out hot and fresh, and the lemon drop was really good. The only issue was that my first batch of wings had a hair in them. I let the waitress know, and she took them back right away. The replacement wings didn't come out immediately either--it was another little wait--but the new batch came out fresh and hot with no issues. I did really like the happy hour deals. The wings, lemon drop, and cheeseburger sliders came out to $25.99, which felt like a really good value because I was full and still had leftovers. Overall, it was a good experience and I would return. Finding hair in my food was definitely a turnoff, especially on a first visit, but the food, drinks, pricing, and the way the staff handled it still left me with a positive impression. read more

The flavor of the food was great, however the temperature wasn't. I ordered the lamb chop meal with greens and mac. The sides were great, but the lamb chops were way overcooked. I asked for med, and they came out well done. We also got the wing meal, and the wings came out lukewarm like they had been sitting for a long time. This is my new favorite restaurant in Houston. And I hope I get to go back real soon. It was a wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend making a reservation, because this place was crowded the whole time we were there. However, because we had a reservation, we were seated immediately. Our waiter, Brian was amazing! He answered all of our questions. He made sure our birthday girl was celebrated. And he consistently communicated with us, he let us know if anything was going to take a little bit longer than expected. Everything was amazing from the appetizers to our entrees and the drinks. My favorite appetizer that we got was the cauliflower, and I got the catfish in grits for my entree. And for my drink, it was a margarita. It did not take long for the food to come out of the kitchen.Everything was fresh and a nice portion size. There is parking nearby and we are fortunate to find a spot. But you may have to park a little way down, because it is in downtown Houston. I will definitely come back next time. I'm in town. read more

I have came to taste bar and kitchen on multiple occasions. However, the last 2 most recent times I have went has been terrible. I went in for brunch one Sunday when no one was there, and they just opened their doors. The vibe was fine, my waffles were disgusting! My next visit was yesterday, I went with my family whom are visiting from Dallas and we waitedx30 mins to be seated while the upstairs was closed off and empty. Then, we waited 35 min for drinks, after being seated. The waiter was a young guy with tattoos on his face. His attentiveness to us was just awful, he wasn't all that pleased just dry and the service was just terrible. The food was OK, not great like it used to be, but just ok. So I think for a $500 bill its safe to say the money could have been well spent somewhere else. Taste had a good run but, its quite clear subpar service and food has entered the chat. I wish for it to turn around but I won't be supporting or bringing in anymore guest to visit there. read more

Shout out to them for setting the tone right. I could easily see this place getting a bit chaotic for brunch on the weekends for sure. Okay, back to the charge for everything... so they run a pretty solid happy hour menu that has $5 lemon drops and $5 fried cauliflower. Which is cool. But as you're ordering and the server asks "what sauce do you want" and "which flavor do you want," your mind goes to "cool of them to ask about a flavor and a sauce." But then of course the bill comes and you see an extra $4 for the watermelon flavor on the lemon drop and another $4 for the Nashville honey hot sauce the cauliflower was tossed in. Now... both the lemon drops and cauliflower were FIRE... just did not expect the charge, if that makes sense. Overall, try out and rate it... This restaurant was really good. Visited on a Wednesday afternoon so it wasn't super busy! The restaurant sits on a corner so we had a nice view of downtown! The food was so good! Steaming hot! I was craving brunch in the afternoon. Taste Bar + Kitchen was featured in multiple instagram videos. So I decided to give it a try today. The vibe was definitely Brunch at 4pm. I was able to sit at the bar right away. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken & Cinnamon Toast Crunch Waffles. It was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy! The bartender/server was helpful and explained the Happy Hour selection. I tried the Uncle Nearest Peach Cobbler Frozen drink. It was really good. I was tempted to order another one. I was really looking forward to getting some good using food or at least rendition of it, but I did not get that here. When I was sad and my waiter asked me if I wanted something to drink. I start off with just water which she brought out in a decent amount of time at that point I got my order taken, and I asked for the lemon drop, the cheeseburger slider, trio, and the dollar wings during happy hour in the Cajun fried flavor. My food came out in a decent amount of time and they were playing good music so that kept me occupied for a bit. The chicken wings were very basic. You can't even call them Cajun. There was a little bit of salt on it, but that's it. The sliders were actually pretty good. The meat was seasoned and they had some sort of sauce on it, that was tasty. Plus the buns were really soft. Where I rate them lower at is after I received my food. I didn't see my server, except to see other people and ask them what they wanted to drink and eat. I waited for about 20-30 minutes before I had someone get the attention of my server so that I could get a box and pay. Better late than never right? Oh now this my holy grail restaurant in Houston! Always number one for the food/drinks, vibes and you'll always meet cool people here. They treat their customers like family. I've had anything from shrimp & grits, fried chicken, gourmet waffles, lamb chops multiple side dishes, you name it and they always come correct. They reasonable priced for the amount of food you receive and they have a dope HH too. Oh and Saturdays are reserved for live R&B music if that's your jam, no pun. Hehe. But Kierra definitely made up for it. I ordered the catfish entree with Mac n cheese and added grits and greens. (Greedy I know) everything was great. First of all you have to ask for Chance... the best waiter, he was attentive and funny... give him a raise! The cocktails were full-size drinks for happy hour at about $8 a drink...plenty of food options... from lamb chops to wings and loaded fries. This is a great place during the happy hour because it can be a little pricey for the regular menu. The restaurant itself is a vibe... they play good music have a nice ambiance. It's giving 5 star because of the vibes. The food is okay I love the cinnamon toast crunch waffle. Greens were sweet bring hot sauce or vinegar. Mac is okay add salt pepper and you good to go. Fried chicken was good with the rice and gravy but it needed more gravy which cost me $4 dollars. Service was good tho and he had some great suggestions we had CJ. This may be my new favorite happy hour spot in town! First of all they literally run from 4:30-8:00PM! They have a bi variety of options to choose from! And most importantly, EVERYTHING TASTE GOOD! Key was our server and she was phenomenal! We had a pretty big group but she handled us a like a true champ and had a great attitude doing it. 1-Star Review - Very Disappointing Experience My experience at Taste Bar and Kitchen was extremely disappointing. The service here absolutely sucks. Our waiter completely disappeared during the meal. There was no replacement server and no staff checking on our table. We were basically left sitting there wondering what happened. When we were finally ready to leave, my wife went to the front to pay the bill. The staff told her someone would be there shortly to help. Well, we waited... and waited... and 30 minutes later still no one showed up to process the payment. That's unacceptable. At that point it felt like they assumed they were getting a tip regardless of the service--which clearly wasn't the case. To make matters worse, I ordered oxtails and grits, but what came out was oxtails and rice. Apparently there must be some kind of disclaimer about substitutions, because that was definitely not what I expected or ordered. Between the terrible service, vanishing waiter, 30-minute wait just to pay, and incorrect food order, this place was a complete letdown. So very disappointed. I won't be back! I'm not sure who is the manager, but they changed the hours for happy hour which is a huge mistake. Taco Tuesday was the highlight of myself and my co-worker's week UNTIL, they brought out an order of Fish tacos, with a single catfish nugget in a tortilla. Charging the same $5.00 for a taco with half the filling is wild. Shrimp tacos included two shredded shrimp. Why are they still the same price when they have clearly decreased the amount of meat they are placing in the orders? The restaurant is not as busy anymore. Sad to say, whoever the owner is better get new management or this location will not last. Decided to try this with my partner for the first time, never again. The wait time was DEPLORABLE.. It took 40 minutes just for our appetizers to arrive. I visited Taste Bar + Kitchen on a Wednesday afternoon when the restaurant was not busy. Unfortunately, what should have been a simple, enjoyable meal turned into a deeply disappointing experience. While eating the breakfast dish with chicken sausage patties, I suddenly felt a hard crunch on my tooth--only to discover a piece of glass in my food. This is not a minor issue; it is a serious safety concern. To the waiter's credit, they were extremely apologetic and immediately brought the manager over. However, the manager's response was shockingly inadequate. The only thing asked was, "What can I do--do you want me to replace it?" I said yes, as there was no other option offered. I then finished my meal while the manager stood watching from across the restaurant the entire time, which was uncomfortable and unprofessional. When my sister (who ordered the same dish) and I asked for the check, it came back with both meals fully charged. After finding glass in food, the bare minimum should have been a discount or the removal of the affected item from the bill. Instead, there was no acknowledgment, no accountability, and no effort to make things right. I have worked in the restaurant industry, and finding glass in a dish warrants far more than an apology and a replacement plate. This situation was frankly embarrassing for the restaurant and the management team. It also raises serious concerns about food safety standards--this is the type of incident that could and arguably should be reported to the health department. The only feeling I left with was disappointment. Taste Bar + Kitchen needs to seriously reevaluate its approach to hospitality, management, and guest safety--immediately. read more

I love the vibe of the upstairs dinner room. That's where they have the band playing. I recommend you reserve your table in advance because it can get packed up there. It isn't a large space. Their food hasn't disappointed me yet. And as you can see, I love their Mac and greens. The lavender margarita is one of my favorites. FYI only limited street or valet parking. The wait can be long on weekends and they typically dont take reservations unless you buy your table upstairs in advance.
