One reason I'm a hugeee fan of Taylor Shellfish Oyster Bars is because they shuck their oysters so expertly! And not in a snobby presentation-is-everything way, but because there's nothing worse than slurping down oysters and crunching on a piece of shell or grit. Besides the grit-free enjoyment of the oysters, they're also super fresh and clean tasting. Prices are steep but happy hour definitely helps. It also spans a good amount of time, from 4:30-6pm. Just be aware horseradish & cocktail sauce are two extra charges! Another favorite of mine is the dunegeness crab. It's pre-cracked so you won't make a huge mess eating and the aioli it's served with is AMAZING. I've inquired before and it's made of sweet Thai chili, mayo, and cream, I believe. Definitely not cheap, but a nice treat once in awhile. Side note: chose to eat here for Valentine's day because I was craving it. Service is also super warm and friendly. As the reviews show, this place is solid for their seafood. What I didn't realize was that ordering items from the cold bar would take longer than warm food. We showed up here with what we thought was 30 minutes until curtain at Center Theatre, and asked the server what would be the fastest items to order and consume before the show. We ended up having the oyster soup and oyster dip. Both were excellent and we had plenty of time to eat and then run over to the show. Thanks to the staff here for helping us get to our show on time! We will be back some other time for the fresh-shucked oysters. Parking around here is a nightmare as usual, but I like how walkable this neighborhood is. You can really park 4-5 blocks away and not feel like you are that far away. Around the Seattle Center there are some unsavory vagrant types, but there is also a strong police presence in the area so it doesn't feel unsafe. read more

Let me preface this review by saying I've only dined here for happy hour. When I come here I come here for the oysters only. All the other happy hour items I would only order if I'm in the mood. I tend to save my appetite for many of the other food options in Seattle and hence just the oysters. Okay, so as far as ratings go the food get four stars, but the service was severely lacking my previous visit so a star has been docked off from the overall experience. And for those dining in, please read the menu because it clearly states that if you're dining in, an 18.9% charge will be applied to your bill used to pay for tips for the workers, which I don't have a real big problem if they are good, but in this case, I've experienced better (more on that a little later). If I had to pick a Elliot's or Taylor's for oyster for happy hour, I'd pick Taylor. They're cheaper and the prices to the happy hour oysters doesn't increase after a certain period of time unlike Elliot's. So for a dozen of their featured oyster during happy hour, it's $21. It's alright; not cheap nor too expensive. The size of the oysters are pretty big, so you definitely don't feel like you're getting gypped. On to the service...so the last time I was there, our server didn't even say more than 10 words to us during our whole time there. And no, that is not an exaggeration. When we walked in, she didn't even say hi or nothing. She just grabbed the menus and said to follow her. Then when we placed our orders, she just said "ok" and moved on. She didn't come to check on us after our food came nor say 'thank you' after dropping the check off. And we definitely didn't get a thank you while walking out. And while I hate to even bring this up, but other tables got more out of her than we did, and I don't know if it's because they were regulars or what...but it is something that definitely stuck out to me. Take that interpretation how you will. I'm not going to spell it out. In the end, if I'm ever in this neck of the woods, I will still come here for happy hour. I stumbled across this place on a Thursday and was wowed by the service and the prices for happy hour. The service was amazing. The happy hour was 3-5 and unlike other reviews, there was no need to stand in line. You could easily walk up at that time and get a seat. The service was incredible and the food was fresh and delicious and at 2 dollars an oyster, a welcome break from the soaring high costs in Seattle. I ordered oysters, baked oysters, and clams that were on the happy hour menu, but the clams were regular cost as the regular menu. They should remove this item from the "happy hour" menu. I understand seafood can be pricey, but do not mind when it is fresh and yummy. BUT, when I got my bill I saw the restaurant is charging an 18 percent service charge for the entire staff. I asked the server if this goes to her as a tip, and she said some, but it is for all staff. Now what does that mean? She clearly pointed out to me that was not her tip. To me, that means she is getting a small percent which now when you are told that, puts you in a position to have to also tip her since she clearly told you it is not for her. I see a previous review saying "tip is included" but that is not how it was explained to me. If this is not the case, that should be explained. But the bill clearly tells you the service charge is for all staff. There are no signs letting you know this. There is no documentation saying "tip included" just that a service charge goes towards paying all staff. After asking, and receiving impeccable service, I felt obligated to continue to put out money to where my bill went from 60 dollars to almost three digits. My issue is, happy hour is going to cost you double if you are paying a 18 percent service charge and then you have to tip the server 20 percent. My bill then came to almost 100 dollars because you wind up tipping almost 40 percent, leaving this one of the most expensive happy hours I have ever been to. It is just circled on your bill as well and at no point says the word "tip" so they clearly are hoping you do both, which if the server is not getting it, you should, but bring a fat wallet. My service fees and tip cost more than the food itself. I do not like when restaurants do this, especially without notice and especially when they are struggling for cash, but so are we. This business is also a distributor, so I find it weird they are not asking, but forcing the community to pay the wages, which puts the consumer in an odd place to decide whether or not to properly tip the server. I never tip less than 20 percent, but that makes it a challenge when you have to double tip. When I walked in I heard a staff member on the phone with someone asking for an itemized receipt. My guess is they disagree as well! Excellent food and excellent service but make sure you plan to bring a fat wallet for an extra 40 percent increase in cost to pay the fees and property tip the staff. Let me start off by saying the seafood was all excellent! We tried two variety platters of oysters, geoduck, sashimi, shrimp, ceviche, baked clams, and baked oysters. Seafood heaven. Our group was dressed up and ready for a fancy evening! Our main server didn't keep a careful eye on us to make sure we had what we ordered. I was on a mission to eat oysters and geoduck while I was in Seattle and Taylor Shellfish fit the bill! After checking out the Cherry Blossom Festival at the Seattle Center area I decided to stop by for a small bite of seafood before heading out to meet a friend. There is a tiny patio that has nice views of the area. The patio is also dog friendly so feel free to bring your pampered pup if you wish. I asked the server what oyster she recommended if I were visiting from out of town. She said to get the Olympia oyster so that's what I ordered in addition to the tobiko geoduck dish. The oyster came out first, and I was pretty disappointed. Are Olympia oysters normally so tiny? It was laughingly puny and the large dish of ice it was perched on seemed to accentuate that effect. Now I know size isn't everything, but the regular sized lemon wedge on the platter was actually bigger than my oyster shell. It seemed like a rip off for $3. You might ask, did it taste good at least? I put a small amount of the mignonette on it but apparently the oyster was so tiny that even a small amount of the vinegar drowned out the flavor of the shellfish so all I could taste was mignonette. Disappointed, I at least had the geoduck coming next to look forward to. The geoduck had an infinitely better presentation and portion size. It had thinly sliced pieces from different parts of the clam. It was presented with tobiko, furikake, a wasabi avocado vinaigrette, and lime wedge at the end. While I enjoyed the geoduck's mild sweet taste, tender slightly springy texture, as well as the roe, I didn't really like the vinaigrette it came with. I felt like it overpowered the delicate flavor of the geoduck so I ended up eating most of the pieces without sauce, or adding a small squeeze of lime to it. Service was good, and I learned some cool tidbits about Taylor Shellfish Farms. Apparently all the geoduck comes from their farm, you can't get any fresher than that! Note that there will be an automatic 18% gratuity added to your bill for dining in, something a lot of other restaurants in the Seattle area are doing from what my experience was at another place I dined at later that day. It was a bit of an uneven experience here meal-wise, but I do not doubt that the seafood served here is very fresh and high quality. read more

My bf and I went to Taylor's during a week trip in Seattle and it was by far the best meal we had (we even tried to go back the day before our flight, but they were closed). We went by after visiting the Space Needle, which is only a easy and safe 10 minute walk from Taylor's. We got the Shucker's dozen, the crab mac n cheese, and the geoduck chowder. We got 2 of each in the dozen, but our favorites were definitely the Shigoku, which were a little sweeter, and the Fat Bastards, which were thick and a little briny. They were all delicious though. The crab mac n cheese was probably top 5 mac n cheeses of my life. The cheese was from Beechers and was so creamy and smooth but did not overpower the crab at all. You could still taste the crab in every bite. Lastly we had the Geoduck Chowder. I haven't had many chowder's in my life but this was a super solid and delicious all around chowder. The geoduck was tender with a little bit of chew and the flavor was so comforting. Other than the food, the ambiance was great. It was a smaller restaurant but had great views and great vibes. The service was amazing as well as everyone was super friendly and kind. Would 100% go back again anytime we're in Seattle and would 100% recommend to others visiting! read more

We came on a weekday night and got served rather quickly, and the food at a slower space. The manager helped serve us, and she was lovely and attentive. We got the Dynamite Clams (garlic sauce), Dungeness Crab, House Salad, and a few Oysters. The food was all very fresh and delicious. I highly recommend getting that many food for 2 people (a little over $130). The house bread has great texture. The salad was rather simple (mostly arugula) with very thinly sliced cheese. The crab was very very good, fresh, flavorful and authentic. The clams were a little over average. Overall, it was a great experience. They have a decent sized restaurant with bar seating as an option. You can see the sinks that hold the fresh oysters with a list of the selections on top. Food: My boyfriend is new to the fresh oyster game and is very adamant about only ordering the small, sweet ones. We asked the server what selection Taylor's had and if we could get 2 of each. Long story short, we ended up loving the Kumamoto oysters and ordered half a dozen more! The only down side of this restaurant is that they do not have any appetizer-like meals that we could have ordered. We came for some fresh oysters but would have liked to also something small to munch on on the side. They had some strange sides, such as bread, seaweed salad but that was about it. Service: Our servers were kind and attentive. They told us that it was Happy Hour and told us about the promotions they had. So of course, many trips to Seattle ago I had to try them at their original location, and loved them! Love Taylor's so much so that when the oyster bar was built on Republican I was there taking pictures and waiting for the doors to open. I had to wait until the next trip to actually try this location. And now when i return to Seattle I stay at a hotel conveniently located 3 short walking blocks away. Atmosphere is upscale chic casual. Have had just about everything on this limited menu. My favorites of oysters, especially on happy hour never disappoints. The oysters are so fresh! And love the mignonette served with their raw oysters. Staff is friendly and helpful and welcome me back everytime. They have great suggestions and recommendations wben i just don't feel like making decisions. My only request is that the menu be expanded just a tad bit. Walked into this spot after some tourist attraction: space needle, chihuly glass garden, children's museum.... It's located at corner of the first floor of a building. FRESH OYSTERS! We came here with a tight timeframe before we had to head back to the space needle for our reserved elevator time. We told them we needed to be in and out in 10-15 mins. A challenge at any restaurant. They greeted us warmly. We sat at a clean 2-top table. We each ordered a drink, Moscow mule for her, and champagne for me. Yep, I felt like celebrating. One of the few adult only getaways we've taken. The weather was absolutely beautiful in Seattle. Apparently, July through September are the best times to visit. The stock response we got from locals to our saying "What beautiful weather Seattle is having!" was "The weather here is terrible. There were only 7 sunny days from last October through June [grumble, grumble]". Well we weren't going to let the locals' sunlight affective disorder bother us. We ordered the geoduck appetizer, and made friends with a neighboring table after they noticed my poor pronunciation of GEE-OH-DUCK. "You're not from around here are you? We say GOO-EE-DUCK." This restaurant completely turned around. My complaints when this store first opened are no longer issues. I love dining here now. I would visit weekly if I could. The crab, oysters, sashimi scallops, and dynamite are consistently delicious. If you are feeling extra frivolous you can add ossetra caviar to any oyster. Yum. The food rating is excellent. This Taylor (as opposed to others that have different menus) takes an interesting spin on dynamite. They bake the clams in sriracha mayo and then when it's cooked they top it with tobiko & green onions. It's to die for. They sell out of this item on the menu often. I know this because I've ordered it and missed the train on this. Do yourself a favor and just order it if you like clams, and a slight spice. Sit at the bar to watch shucking, baking, and Lacy's cocktail mixology. It's a fun place to sit. Also, Lacy is probably one of the most chill bartenders in town. She's cool to shoot the "shirt" with (A Good Place reference - comedy at its best). The vibe is industrial. There are cement floors, pillars, and counter tops. The ceiling to floor 18 foot windows stretch around three sides of the restaurant. There is a crab viewing tank at the entrance and the variety of oysters in their own oysters tanks. Food was great. Service not so much. A couple seated near us sat for a while without anyone coming to them. The man then went up to the bar and told a chef there that they had been waiting a while. I watched that chef tell a server, and she made a face. She then proceeded to intentionally ignore that table.
