Tea time, my favorite time! It's giving me all the Asian-inspired afternoon tea vibes! Their prix fixe menu ($45/person) features a delightful selection of sweet and savory bites, like mushroom potstickers, roasted veggie wontons, and curry chicken baskets, paired with specialty teas like Earl Grey Crème and Masala Chai. Perfect spot to gather with friends or enjoy a solo tea party!

Unfortunately, my friends and I were not impressed by the afternoon tea food. I enjoyed curry chicken basket, the shrimp cake, and the papaya penna cotta, but everything else was just okay. The cucumber salad didn't really have any flavor. My friends felt the same. One positive was that they let you sample all of the teas beforehand, which is nice. I always get so indecisive about which tea to get at afternoon tea. The negative is that I was not wow'd by any of the teas. The ambiance is very cute and nice. Service was standard and good. In the picture attached, the items are as follows: On the top from left to right, egg sando, curry chicken basket, shrimp cake, mushroom potsticker, and cucumber salad sandwich. On the bottom, black sesame puff, papaya penna cotta, raspberry lychee mousse, and chocolate custard tart.

I brought my bf's mom and aunties here to celebrate a few birthdays, and it ended up being the perfect spot for a special occasion! The restaurant is so cute, and all the bites are beautifully crafted and good. You can really tell how much detail goes into each one, and trying the different teas was such a fun and unique experience! We came around 3pm, which was great because if the afternoon tea bites don't fill you up (though honestly, they were more filling than expected!), you can also order from the dinner menu. Each tea set comes with one bite per person, so everyone gets to try everything from savory items to dessert. Since we were already there, we tried a few entrées, and the crab roe fried rice was amazing. They also offer free refills on the tea, and each person gets their own pot, just like a classic afternoon tea experience. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Chinese Tea Modern for birthdays, celebrations, or any special occasion. We loved our experience and would gladly come back!

Loved everything about this little restaurant in downtown orange! Ambiance could be better as it is just a casual restaurant the street but the cute little tea pots upfront with option to literally sample each tea before buying was so unique as I have never seen this in any other spot. Garlic noodles, dumplings, beef were all delicious. I loved their milk oolong to the point i bought a packet of the loose leaf from art of tea (thats the brand their teas are of). Would love to come back to try afternoon tea!! I also dream to have glass tea pots on a table in my tea room in my house one day lol loved that set up so much.

This place is a winner!!! This restaurant is now also serving lunch and dinner not just their afternoon tea and they have a new menu!! The new name of the restaurant is Star Leaf Tea and Asian Kitchen! Such cute, cozy modern tea house vibes with elegant but affordable options for dinner! The service was amazing and the food was so well balanced, refreshing yet satisfying and indulgent. We ate everything off our plates. Come check this restaurant out for a date or treat yourself moment! They also have Afternoon Tea im the day time where you can get cute bites and a selection of teas. What we ordered: Royal Thai Tea Indonesian Rice Crackers Prawn Ceviche Thai Fried Chicken Wings Spicy Tôm Yum Soup Chilean Sea Bass 12 Hr Braised and Grilled Short Ribs Mango Sticky Rice Tropical Coconut Panna Cotta Service was amazing! I had been wanting to try the afternoon tea here for a while since I kept seeing it pop up on social media. I have to say that I was very disappointed with the afternoon tea. The restaurant was very cute (my 6 yo was very impressed and said everything was so "fancy"). We really appreciated the tea sampling table they have for you to try all the teas before choosing one so you won't regret your choice. I was under the impression that there was an a la cart menu to order from in addition to the afternoon tea set and had intended to order a la cart for my daughter, however that was not the case. The server did say we could order individual items from the tea set a la cart, so we decided to order some additional dumplings for my child only to be told that it was $5 PER DUMPLING. You should have seen the look on our faces. I'm pretty sure even the server thought that was a ridiculous price and he quickly said he could give us two dumplings for $6. That was still a steep price to pay but infinitely better than $5/dumpling. We decided to just go with an extra two dumplings first and see what else our kid would eat from our afternoon tea set for two. The food tasted mostly fine, but the amount of savories was so small and unfulfilling. I've had many afternoon teas in many countries, including in a fancy hotel in Mayfair, London, as well as your small local tea house in Bath. The amount and quality of food did not justify the price at all. The scones were not traditional english scones but they tasted good and my child liked them. They were served with a whipped cream instead of clotted cream, which was disappointing. The desserts were all too sweet and nothing inspiring. I really really wanted to like this place but the only thing we liked was the restaurant decor and the teas.

I'd been wanting to try their afternoon tea for a while, and my daughter made reservations for Sunday to celebrate my birthday. It's a fixed menu priced at $45 per person, with a nice selection of different tea flavors to choose from. The three of us arrived on time and were seated right away. The oriental-style fans displayed on the wall added a lovely touch to the atmosphere. My daughter chose the Liquid Jade Citrus tea, my niece picked Passionfruit Jasmine, and I went with the Blooming Tea. My daughter's and niece's teas arrived quickly, but mine didn't come even after our food was served. We were told they were waiting for a teapot. Not wanting everyone to wait, we started eating, and my tea finally arrived when we were already halfway through our meal. The food was decent--nothing extraordinary--but you can tell it took some effort to prepare. Overall, it's a pleasant place for a special occasion or a relaxed afternoon chat with friends.

Afternoon tea, but make it Chinese-inspired. Tea Modern Chinese is a welcome addition to the lovely Old Towne Orange neighborhood, serving traditional flavors with a modern touch. The space is elegant, bright and airy, with decorative florals scattered throughout the space. Plus, the array of their tea selection--fourteen choices to be exact--is a welcome sight in greeting you upon entering the space! The $45 afternoon tea set comes in nine courses with four sweets and five savories, along with your choice of tea. Before ordering, your server will invite you to sample their teas, which come in a variety of black, oolongs, and herbal blends. My friend got the Earl Grey creme while I went with the lavender chamomile, both of which were delicious. However, next time I'd definitely go for the Earl Grey, as it was the smoothest one of its kind I've had yet! The food was truly a home run, with my highlights from the savory selection being the mushroom potsticker and curry chicken basket, and the raspberry lychee mousse as the standout from the sweets. The brown sugar scone was served with your traditional jam and cream on the side and was perfectly baked. Service was great, with our server checking on us frequently to ask if we wanted our teas to be refilled. My only minor critique is it would've been great had they offered some raw sugar packets or smaller sugar cubes, as the tea cups were tiny while the sugar cubes were large. As someone who takes sugar with her tea, I would've appreciated having the ability to control how much I was putting in each cup of tea. Besides that, I have no other qualms and would highly recommend spending your next afternoon here.

Afternoon tea here is top notch! My best friend and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!! They have an amazing selection of teas and I wish I could try them all. The food was tiny but yummy, definitely perfect for an afternoon savory and sweet snack. It's a great girly time to spend with family or friends and I definitely recommend it!

Wonderful experience celebrating a birthday today. Its great they let yiu taste the tea before ordering, and each food item was very delicious! Servers are all very nice, and the inside is spacious with lots of Chinese-style decorations. Parking can be a pain, but it is Old Town Orange.

Tea Modern Chinese is fairly new in Old Town Orange. They offer a very nice afternoon tea service. It's $45 per person, which gets you sweet and savory bites and a pot of tea. There's a 90 minute limit, which was more than enough time for us to enjoy our tea and bites. First do a tasting of their teas that are set up on a table at the front of the restaurant. It did get a little congested with several of us tasting at the same time. However, it's an efficient way of tasting before you sit down and order your pot of tea. The bites are a set menu of sweets and savory. All was pretty good. It was more than enough to fill us up. The scones served with cream and jam were especially delicious! The place settings are tea service fancy. You get a big pot of tea and they make sure to refill as needed. We arrived about 20 minutes before our reservation and we were asked to return because the place was packed! Once we settled in, service was good. Overall, having afternoon tea here was a very special treat and I will be back, I'm am sure! Be aware that parking is always a challenge in Old Town Orange on a weekend day. Give yourself enough time to find parking.

Best high tea I've ever been too and It was worth price and the drive from La. This place mixes eastern and western cultures to make an asian inspired high tea experiences that comes with aromatics and delicious snacks. The $45 prix fixe menu first includes a flight of aromatics to smell from while you choose what tea you'd like. There are a large number of teas to choose from aswell! The snacks included 4 sweet and 5 savory treats which were all so so delicious. Some of my favorites include the black sesame hazelnut choux, the scone, and the curry chicken basket. The interior was nicely decorated and the staff was incredibly friendly and a joy to talk to. The town outside is also quite nice and a great place to walk around afterwards. Both the inside and outside are also great for taking pics will definitely be back!!

App: Bbq Spare Rib- very tender, but salty ‍ Entree: Steak on Crack comes out sizzling like fajitas which creates lots of smoke for effects. Our steak was over done and very tuff. The sauce was almost burnt, I wouldn't recommend this dish. Honey walnut shrimp: giant shrimp which I liked! Def try this one They need to go back to the basics.. the rice was mushy as heck! I would have gotten slapped by my mom if I made rice like that lol Overall: fancy upscale chinese restaurant. Don't come here expecting authentic Chinese foods , but come with a date that you want to impress. But probably don't bring your side chick here, she won't be impressed. Came here for an afternoon tea session with my mom and grandma. The staff were very friendly and helpful when we were picking out our teas. They have samples you can try out to see which you would like to pick. Overall we had a nice time being able to snack on variety of foods/pastries while sipping some tea. read more

A big welcome to the Orange circle. The owners are very experienced restauranteurs who have opened many successful venues. This is Chinese food at its finest. The menu will surprise you. It's not your ordinary Chinese food fare. We had the crispy jumbo shrimp which tantalized our taste buds, we just couldn't get enough, this was a home run of a shrimp dish. We also had the beef egg fried rice and the BBQ pork with Hong Kong noodles. Delicious!!! The servers Mike and Eubean were super attentive and friendly. The ambiance is clean modern. We had the pleasure of sitting in front of the glass windowed kitchen and were hypnotized by the chef's unique creations being prepared. All in all -- this place will dominate the Orange Circle. If not for being on Resy and curious about the tea(which wasn't at all impressive a selection), I would never come back. Price too ridiculous for high end tea, but turned out on the lower end. Service great but front end person needed better customer service. Middle of not a great area of town either. So no thank you. read more

Had early dinner over the weekend at Tea Modern Chinese with the family and everything was amazing! The ambience is very clean and modern but still had a casual feel, so I felt comfortable bringing my kids. The waiter was extremely nice and explained every dish as they came out. Because it was our first time, we wanted to try all of the best dishes. Literally every dish we had was delicious. We ordered: Mushroom salad Shrimp eggroll Wagyu beef potstickers Bbq spare ribs Orange chicken Steak on crack Long beans Stir fries broccolini Every single one of the dishes were so good! My kids don't usually love eating vegetables, but they devoured the long beans and broccolini. The wagyu beef potstickers, bbq spare ribs, and steak on crack were so flavorful and perfectly prepared. The establishment had beautiful decor and I loved the open kitchen concept. Service was really wonderful, the staff was kind and offered suggestions from the menu. They were very attentive; constantly checking in and refilling our water. the food was very good, my personal favorites were the egg fried rice, orange chicken, and steak on crack. the restaurant was not busy when I was there so the wait time was minimal. would definitely return just for the rice. all in all, a spot to check out if in the area. Originally I was going to come for the afternoon tea service which looked really lovely, but I think coming for dinner was a better choice. I came with 2 other friends and our total for all the plates we ordered and shared was close to what we would have paid for a party of 3 for the afternoon tea. I think the dinner is more fulfilling and a better deal in terms of the amount of food we got for the price. Either way I would return and recommend the restaurant :-) read more

This hidden gem, located in Orange Circle, is the perfect spot for a fun hangout with delicious bites! I visited with friends for high tea, and I had an amazing experience. The restaurant is charming, featuring Asian-inspired decor, and the high tea menu had a unique Asian twist. The set menu includes a pot of tea, which you can choose from their wide selection, and the food is a set menu which they bring out all together in a cute presentation. I loved the little egg sandwich and cucumber cream cheese bite. The desserts were fun to try, with the Yuzu tart being my favorite--tangy, sweet, and a perfect match with my tea! Really wanted to like it based on the reviews!! I love the ambiance here, I like the open kitchen concept, it's modern with elevated vibes great for celebrating an event. The food is a Chinese modern fusion twist. The service was great too, they came to fill our waters constantly. Unfortunately, the food itself was not great. I see potential in this place though because I love fusion spots. We ordered the scallion pancakes. Traditionally scallion pancakes are thin and crispy so you can really taste the scallion flavor. The scallion pancakes here are very thick and a bit soft and mushy so it was hard to taste scallion. The orange chicken was probably the best item we had here. The Hong Kong Chao mein was very salty and didn't taste like traditional Chao mein, there was a very distinct sauce flavor that tasted like a variation of oyster sauce. The honey walnut shrimp was ok, it was a little too heavy of the sauce. Overall, the presentation was great, I think if the ingredients can be touched up it would become a great spot! read more

I really wanted to like this place but here are the reasons for the rating: 1. We arrived at 11:17am for a 11:30am reservation for 8 people. Yes we were early but they actually let us sit down. The restaurant had only maybe 3 tables at the most that were being served. So definitely NOT busy. Every few minutes they would ask us if our party were coming. Parking is bad on the weekend so 4 of the guests were still looking for parking. My final guest arrived at 11:40am. We promptly ordered 8 Afternoon Teas and also additional luncheon dishes. Food came out quick. 2. NO SCONES! Honestly I didn't realize this until I got home. I had to look at pictures on Yelp to confirm if there were supposed to be scones. Doesn't Afternoon Tea always include scones? If they ran out of scones they should have told us. 3. Exactly at 1:40pm I was given the bill and told that my 90 minutes were almost up! I felt totally rushed. Did they start the time when we sat down? Not sure. 4. Service was not the best. They hardly checked in on us. We had to ask for the hot water to be refilled. 5. I did ask for a low key birthday treat to be given to one of my guest but even that arrived after the bill was paid and we were about to leave. So a quick recap...food was good, no scones for Afternoon Tea, service was lacking and we felt rushed. read more

We went to this location the other night and I thought it was a place that had a bunch of little desserts including ice cream. I was wrong but the manager ,owners ,servers there were so sweet and nice and attentive that I will be back when I'm in Orange County again during the day. Saw this restaurant as an up and coming new place so decided to give it a try for the afternoon tea. Hmm... it's not bad, but don't compete expecting for a nice ambience relax tea place, cause it is not comparable to the actual high tea experience you would get at a cute cottage or hotel. The seating are at dining table height and super close together with other tables. Food was mediocre at best, tea selection tho several to pick from bit all in the tea bags so not sure if it's anything special or came loose leaf or just simply put tea bag in a pot. In any case, glad we gave it a try to take it off the list. But would I go back, not sure. read more

I'm so happy to have found a cute cozy modern Chinese restaurant in OC. The service was excellent and the waiter had recommended our dishes! My sister and I took our mom there today for an early Mother's Day celebration. It was perfect! Vayda was our server and she was awesome, so sweet and accommodating with whatever requests we made. Food was delicious! And tea was tasty. They have a cool little tea tasting station at the entrance, which is helpful because there's so many to choose from so it was nice to get to sample them before having to pick which one we were going to each order. read more

Came here to celebrate a friends' birthday and we had a great experience! The staff is very knowledgeable and super accommodating and we were definitely appreciative of the wonderful service! Parking around this area is always hectic. However, it's so cute inside the restaurant! I love the concept of trying different teas and getting unlimited refills on them during your experience. Having multiple people with you means drinking more different types of tea. The food and pastries that go along w the order are also yummy: esp the chocolate dessert and the thai curry. Enjoyed a lovely high tea with a girlfriend on a weekend- make reservations! Parking can be difficult to find and there is a fee in some areas. Indoor dining only the dining room has samples of all the teas offered so you can try before you decide. Turner came with several tea sandwiches, a scone that was tough and not really a scone, more like a biscuit and bite size desserts. We loved the savory bites such as gyoza, chicken salad cup, cucumbers sandwich and the sweets were a nice mix of chocolate and other flavors. All seemed to be home made. The scone was disappointing as it was tough and chewy and dry. The "clotted cream" was actually whipped cream so nothing exciting there. Wait staff was great- very efficient and responsive and welcoming. Great experience! $45 per person and we were happy clams! read more

I came here without a reservation, they told me it would be about a 2 hour wait. (There was no line but it seems like they're basically reservation only). I put my name on the waitlist- which texted me and told me the wait would only be 1 hour. I wait the 2 hours.... They never text or call me for my table.... Ever. Disappointed! We drove far from north LA to try this Asian inspired afternoon tea time to celebrate Mother's Day. We love doing tea time in LA and wanted to give this a try. First of all, they charge for kids 6 and under, which would've been fine if they gave them food/drinks that kids that age would actually enjoy. $25 per kid and they didn't even like the dessert, much less the food. That's saying much if the kids didn't even like the dessert. My kids love tea time especially for dessert, but not here. They should've made it optional for the kids or gave kids options. The tea was ok. The food was underwhelming, nothing I can recall tasting particularly good. The service was sub par, almost as if we were an inconvenience to check on. We had to flag a different server just to get napkins. The only thing I liked was the shrimp cake. After spending $200 for 2 adults and 2 toddlers, I am very disappointed. Food: Amazing. I'm so glad there's an Asian afternoon tea place. I've tried so many around SoCal, and honestly this is one of my favorites in terms of the tea and food. Asian flavor profiles like using hojicha, yuzu, matcha, sesame, etc. make this such a special afternoon tea. My favorite was the potsticker and raspberry mousse. Everything is so delicate. I never thought I would enjoy modern Chinese food, but consider my convinced otherwise. To start, the ambience did strike a perfect balance between casual and elevated. The service was impeccable and I truly felt taken care of. The food had the perfect modern twist to it have some key flavors like the ginger scallion on the Brick Chicken, which was incredibly tender, and the Szechuan in the mushroom salad and Ting Ling long beans. It does have the numbing pepper so definitely take note of that! Ok so I came back for dinner and I was incredibly disappointed . First I think the whole menu is different from a long time ago which I was looking forward to the old menu but I though let's go try anyways cause tea time was good - well I was wrong only the tea time dishes and teas are good but dinner was super disappointing I ordered dumplings and short rib . The dough in the dumplings were sooo thick and also they were luke warm and my short rib that says 12 hours cooked so I'm thinking wow it'll melt in your mouth ! Well it was so dry I couldn't chew or cut it and also it was $35 for the tiniest portion . And on the website menu photo the short rib look like JT was a much bigger portion size . I been to so many other places for short rib of similar style and received way more / better quality for that price . I posted a picture of the piece of meat cut so you can see how dry it is . The people were nice and while I was surprised they didn't speak. Cantonese, the server spoke Mandarin and help us make decision on what items to order. We ended up getting the green beans, the filet mignon French style, a black bean fish fillet, and their house special fried rice. I thought the best item that we got was the fried rice. They put a decent amount of shrimp and barbecue pork and it tasted pretty good. The green beans was a tad bit on the sweeter side which I wasn't used to, but it had decent flavors. The filet mignon was a little bit on the smaller side and there wasn't a ton of pieces in there and it was the most expensive dish of the night. I probably will skip that next time. The fish fillet was actually pretty good. All in all, 3.5/5 stars is probably what I would give it. There are definitely better Chinese restaurants if you're willing to drive a little bit out. At least it's nice that this place is conveniently close to where we live.

Wish I had more time in the area, it looks like a cool place to get work done - but it can get crowded!

Not only was it gut healing, but it's super warming on a chilly morning. While I was looking over the menu, I was between the breakfast burrito since everybody was ordering it or the soft scramble with chili oil. I landed on the soft scrambled chili crunch. It was served with a half avocado and rye toast the others in our party ordered pancakes, bacon, a chicken sandwich and a Yuzu drink. Everything came out in a timely manner and beautifully plated. I absolutely loved the soft scramble on Rye. It was a perfect serving size as well as hitting the spot for a not so traditional breakfast. As we're sitting there, I noticed everybody was ordering the lemon ricotta pancakes, so I could not resist and ordered some as well. I will say the most underwhelming part of that was the lemon ricotta pancakes due to the ratios for the pancake pancakes and lemon ricotta. Overall, my experience was spectacular. I cannot wait to go back to Bluestone Lane to try other menu items.

The guy working said to the people in front of me that they sold out. It was my turn I asked if they had it and the guy said that they had a line since 3pm and that they sold out of the keg. We ended up getting two beers since we went anyways but that's when things didn't add up. He kept telling all the other people that started to show up the same thing. These are reasons why it didn't add up 1) empty seats inside but had a line since 3pm and beer was released at 4pm 2) I don't think the people going for younger would just order one beer and not try other RR beers? 3) only one guy working beer counter and having to clean the tables and make sandwiches? 4) 12 oz pours of beer and keg with about 1984 oz would make it 166 beers. No way they sold 166 beers in an hour with one person working the bar and shop empty in an hour. They could have posted on their instagram or socials that they sold out but failed to do so. I'm sure a lot of people all night were disappointed to see that they didn't have it or post anything about it.

The tea-tasting menu at the start was a wonderful touch; it us a chance to sample and decide what we wanted to enjoy. Every bite was small but packed with incredible flavor, far exceeding what we imagined. The sweet selections were equally delightful and refreshing, a perfect balance to end the meal. We went to T modern Chinese for the first time after seeing their ad on Facebook, and it was the perfect spot to celebrate a birthday! We tried the Beef on Crack, Bird's Nest Noodles, Walnut Shrimp, Grilled Pork, and Steamed Fish, and every dish was excellent. The flavors were bold, delicious, and well-balanced. One unique touch we loved was being able to watch the chefs in action through the open kitchen, which added to the experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy a special meal. Overall, we had a fantastic time, and we'll definitely be coming back! Despite ordering the ribeye, the meat was on the dry side and not as tender as we had hoped. We also didn't enjoy the sauce, as it didn't enhance the steak's flavor. On the other hand, the sweet and sour whole fish was a pleasant surprise--the fish was fresh, and the seasoning was just right, though you need to watch out for bones. It's beautiful but also casual. They have an astounding selection of things to choose from so I think it's actually a great location if you are going with someone and you don't know what they like. They surprised me with the cute fire pit setup they had for some of their seating! I am a sucker for fire pits and I think this would be a great place to chit chat also in the evening. I ordered the French Toast King. It's picturesque to be honest. I got it with the acai sorbet. Honestly I am kind of glad that I got it with the sorbet because the toast itself is a big mattress that needs to soak up some more stuff in my opinion. For how thick the bread is, it might even be one to benefit from a filling? Loved all the berries. I'd say it's not my top French toast but it's not on the bottom. The staff were very nice. They had originally forgotten my sorbet and my matcha hadn't come yet so I let them know and they were sure to get that to me which was great. They are pretty busy so I also would give them some grace too. I love their matcha lattes here. It's an aesthetic treat just to look at and it is also tasty. I got the Green Tea Rose and it has a great balance of rose flavor and it's just so stunning to look at. I think if I were to go back, I'd probably get the waffle like my friend did with the acai sorbet. I have had that at Urth before and I actually think I prefer it over the French toast! But that's just my personal preference. I'd consider coming again if I am in the area.

The sweet pancakes were more dense than other places. They could be more on the fluffy side. The Staff was very nice and came by often to check up on us. The kettle chips were pretty good, and my cookie was fresh and soft, with the perfect amount of chocolate chips. The vanilla latte was a delightful surprise, very tasty with robust flavors of both coffee and vanilla. And it wasn't overly iced! Other protein choices are shrimp, tofu and light and dark meat chicken. This is my go to Thai spot now.
